This is so true. I just got to 4 k last month in my winstreak after dedicating a bit of time to improve and been stuck there for a couple of weeks. But this coaching I think is gonna help me a lot because I used information battle against legends to get up to 4 k and now I have to adjust my use of information according to my enemies. But yea I saw the title and got exited. Big up man
You can compare it to anything in life , from driving to jobs etc. Repetition. Once you do things correctly enough times you're not going to think about it anymore. Next time you play , focus on 1 thing in the game (lets say pick a thing out of this video, or something you know you need to focus on) you do that enough times with that specific thing you're focusing on , its going to become habit (you'll do it subconsciously) and your brain will be free to think about something else
I was the range creep in this game. Super good lesson from BSJ right here. I can tell you from my (our) perspective, he was super oppressive. I was tracking him all game, and still managed to get caught twice. Because of how he was playing alone, we couldn't farm properly or take good fights even. That being said, props to my team for keeping the spirit high and for trying hard :).

@@soldieroftruth77 This is generally the counterplay: specifically cliff spots that are variably distant from where your team is forced to sit. Even Void is a decent hero for getting in, planting a deep ward, and leaving. You see the Legion on some distant cliff ward? You get to make your play (or lack of play) with that information.
i was Lina in this game, he is 100% right when he says "i know they're scared of me and i will manipulate them by not showing" the whole game felt like we can't do anything if LC is off map
You are kidding me. A viper (with no mobility) pushing in the offlane with no T1 nearby and no vision on the enemy heroes. This is something even a 4k should know.
this is a great video for offlaners. I've realised that as an offlaner a lot of the time the enemy team is so afraid of getting initiated on by you that even if you just jungle the whole time, you're actually forcing the enemies from doing whatever they want.
I love seeing how dedicated bsj is, explaining all those not obvious things. Although I don't play dota anymore, he inspires to improve in whatever person's craft is, not just dummy replay the same thing again
I noticed at this rank that people don't realize enough what the opponents see, so deaths like the viper's are pretty common. Usually s a reaction they get upset that their teammates weren't nearby, so I'm glad you explained why and how these deaths can be prevented. In dota one can never be aware enough throughout the whole game, there's always more info to see and use which is pretty cool. But what's even cooler is how you abused the info you gave them with that void kill, I love mind games! Looking forward to more content like this!
That was really nice to see like, dire team understood your pattern of hunting them and started grouping up, but they only thought about using this to bait you in way later in the game, when it didn't matter much anymore. Which aligns with your video coaching the viwers game, where you told them to hunt dazzle, as the dazzle in that game, witch doctor could've told his team like "guys, this LC is always focusing me, use me as bait and we will get her" Communicating something "simple" with the team, can change the whole game.
Great video. This is the best format for these "smurf" games you do IMO. I'd be interested in seeing a hero with a different type of play style, i.e. a Tide who isn't looking to pick off the enemy etc
genuine information right there BSJ, true! decision making and adjustments during the game are absolute game changers, the reaction time and quick thinking is what makes DOTA entertaining.
BSJ thank you so much for this video! You explained certain things that I have felt in my games but did not choose to communicate it effectively (talking about how you as pos3 are causing predictable enemy movements around the map). This will definitely help me in my games!
You explain these so well. I used to watch pro plays but only watching them was never enough. Us, low mmrs don't understand higher mmrs' thoughts so these videos where you explain your moves, are very helpful
Kinda their fault for not having vision. It’s important to note that BSJ communicated to them to be careful while he was scouting. He got there quick enough though. Plus meepo blinked up there with no vision. In reality the meepo probably would have gotten flamed for that.
Very informative. I recently went on a huge winning streak as a pos 3 and went from 3,8k to 4,8k in a very short time. But now i feel like i've hit a plateau . I'm stuck between 4,6 and 4,8k. While my performance felt quite consistent and the majority of my games i feel like i still have high impact it was hard for me to understand why i lose like 52% of my games at the moment. I noticed that i was getting picked of sometimes in lane while i immediatly realized i should not have been there at that time. It's very bad when that happens cuz i feel like as an offlaner you only get to make so many mistakes. You get behind real easy when you mess up like that. You cannot avoid that you have to play from behind sometimes but i place myself in unnecessary situations a lot. I have to learn this higher lvl information processing and adjust to this lvl.
Nail on the head on the Meepo carry comment. Literally one of the first things I noticed and started thinking negative thoughts. Wasn't even in the game and I tunnel visioned that a bit. I wasn't thinking: "I can't change the fact of which heroes the team picked, but I can change what I do." But I should have been, if I had a winner's mentality instead of a loser's mentality.
As a fellow 4k player, I can relate to these challenges firsthand. While I acknowledge these issues, breaking old habits and adopting new ones can be incredibly challenging. Once the game begins, it's easy for our instincts to take over, making it tough to implement the advice given. BSJ's insights serve as a reminder of the constant effort required to improve and break through barriers in Dota 2.
"wtf I have a meepo carry" thats the best line of the video. Nah well done BSJ I really like the video and though about some stuff I could do in my game to get better.
Thanks for the video, that's really nice. I think it would be much better to have more videos like this. The video is not just helpful in game but also remind me of the good old days. 😊 Maybe you already forgot, BSJ, but at about 2017 or sooner you made a video about map awareness and how to play the map with Storm Spirit on gameleap channel. Same concept about he knowing that you know or not too, to describe that complicated thing, you used the mind blow meme which is very fun. That concept alone help me climb from 4k to 6k in 2 months. I hope you guys can learn the technique and climb mmr too.
I definitely fell into the judgmental stage which cause me to fall back to legend. The climb to Ancient V was less judgemental for sure. Something changed, time to change again.
I know there's alot of value in this educational smurfing on these low ranks. However, some reality is some people like playing on low ranks. For example me and my friends stay around legend-ancient so we can still play with our guardian-crusader friends. At any point we gain too much rank, we go for weird drafts like all int, etc... the point is to have fun playing and not get too stressed climbing mmr when we just got off work. This probably contributes to the idea that there are too many smurfs that aren't banned on low ranks. We probably aren't the only ones playing dota for fun, we don't really mind losing and we love playing around like diving, etc...
Also gyys, im literally 4k and play a ton of legion games since im braindead that way. What bsj is doing here is right, but when you know you have a very good early game and your midgame is even better, you have the choice of either going echo sabre or aghs, and yes aghs, i tend to go for aghs as it will give duel more uptime and allows me to join fights more frequently to help make space (and scale if you win most duels you cast), for my carry who might have a hard game or needs a longer time to be online. Aghs isnt greedy at all tbh, if you know you have so much dmg, its actually some form of defense for yourself as you mitigate 50% dmg you take. Take that info with a grain of salt, and well, i tend to make SB before aghs for dual initation and scoutign during fights.
I tend to be like "WTF we have a meepo carry" to myself, but I also say, "lets play to the best of my ability if it works out sick, if it doesn't I then get to tell him WTF we have a meepo carry later" haha. Either way its a win win.
really awesome. i really didnt often think about not showing to the creeps. sometimes yea but not often enough. especially later in the game i dont think about it
I play at ~4.3k as an offlane/mid and often lose because I can identify these issues but my teammates don't listen when I point them out. Feels like if I don't play a snowball hero that can carry 1v5 it's such an uphill battle.
I suppose some of you could brief me on what I should prioritize. I'm maining supports (pos 5 and 4) for a while now. I was loving to go mid before and hard carry, but I just sort of grew out of those positions and I must rather help creating better places for fights and helping out others, instead of mindless out lasthitting on lane and then disappearing into the jungle for 20 minutes. Anyway, my question is simple. And I suppose the answer is as simple as my question, but you know when you just focus on something for way to much and you just get this tunnel vision and can't really take a step back to make a definitive decision? I've been huge on Veno since the Universal heroes were a thing, he got nerfed quite a bit, his slows and damage is still high, but not as much as it used to be, so I swapped to AA and had great success with it. But then the Venge (which was my main way back) got her buffs and I just spam picked her (quite frankly like everyone else) but now I'm at a standpoint, where I don't exactly know what to look for when I'm picking a support. I always prefered a support that is aggresive (Venge with her Q and W, Veno with his Q and barrage of autoattacks with poisons, AA with the W and E) since recently everyone is so focused on farming, pulling and overall winning the lane by tactics, in my experience throwing a chaos into the lane by being an absolute menace to the enemy team, constantly putting them under pressure, it's sometimes an instant or it takes few minutes, but it mentaly destroys their focus on pulling, lotuses, sometimes even the wisdom rune. That's when you take a step back and return to the usual pulling, warding, rotations, etc. Their mind is in this warfare like state, missing their timings and simply instead of measuring our cock lengths in mechanics, I prefer to take the mental warfare. My question then is, what should be my concern while usually going the first pick in the game. I'm so tunnel visioned on taking heroes I'm most comfortable with so I could do this thing I mentioned, I'm just focused on tilting the enemy lane until I see they've lost their focus and then I pull back and enjoy the mistakes they make, but I don't know if it's really that helpful in the grand scheme. Sure there's the small chance of making them so tilted they go jungle before the laning phase ends or make 'em just wishing for the game to be over, but it is all mental stuff, when you are against more mentally stable people (I know, there are some in Dota?) which in the higher MMR is more and more often, this strategy isn't really that reliable. I was around 4800 MMR, but fell down quite a bit to 4100 MMR and it seems I didn't move an inch for the past two weeks. True, I don't have that much time to play because of work, but I'm just all over the place about what approach is the best for the team. I usually ask the carry what would they want as a support, or just what they are picking so I could pick something good with that hero. But I can't shake the feeling of being outpicked just from their first pick alone. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
I climbed from Herald 3 years ago to Ancient 2 as of yesterday. After having many months of experience on almost all hero’s I just play the meta picks.
I actually uninstalled today. I just can't fight an enemy team and my own. Every game I somehow have to do 2+ roles and shot call or it's 4 NPCs sometimes grouping. So mentally draining to see 4 people do stupid shit over and over, every week. They need a 1v1 mode
I wouldnt mind playing at 4k, in fact im not winning a lot and losing a lot just back to back win and lose because my gamestyle is not about meta in dota but about what looks fun for me to play like assuming they nerf sven im still gonna play it because im having fun, but when enemy pick meta hero which so unfair i still insist on picking weak one as long as its fun, just a wiki dota is a very complicated game so im having those exciting moment choosing a higher chance of lose because if i would win a very unfair game with nerf hero, that is such a best feelings for me.
It's hard when you know these things and give the callouts but your team don't listen to you even if things happened already and you warn or give them info, they still don't listen.(SEA dota btw)
I just played with a LC Offlane and guess what. The Enemy Riki had more Duelldamage then my LC 10v0 She wasnt able to win 1 single Duell because she was always out of Position. Either she was initiatet on and got killed first, or she was so far back the Fight was over when she arrived...
18:15 @bananaslamjamma you say you don't want to show on waves when you have duel. Would it change anything if the enemy team has a save like Wyvern or Dazzle?
Great content. I think part of the failures also occur in the drafting, although no game is technically impossible, coukd you please creatr a guide for DRAFTING? It would help a lot of players and help balance the games. Many thanks
This is insanity😮 Theres so much i dont know about this game and yet ive played 3 thousand hours. Guess i was just working at my mechanics😂 Time to use some real brain
I was 5.3k and climbing before I stopped playing for 9 months. The moment I got back was the huge update where I plummeted to 4.3k. I feel like Dota now is very different. It totally gives focus on teamwork nowadays. The 1v5 gaming has been long gone and you normally see 6-slotted supports in late games now. The addition of NC items, talents, tormentor, bounty and XP runes have certainly made it so much easier for supports. For me, that's the real game-changer in climbing the MMR ladder. You can control your play but not your teammates', especially playing in the SEA server. My two cents, stick to a rotation of 5-hero pool depending on enemy draft and just grind it out. Whenever Valve see that you're in a win streak or are dominating games, they'll normally matchmake you with worse teammates and higher MMR enemies.
BSJ: Telling advanced ideas how to play map. Also BSJ doesn't buy shard which would give him 120-150 damage for 1400 gold. He should have bought that shard at 20min at latest.
small doubt on a decision here. Since you already felt that you were stronger than void at lane. Would it not be a priority for a blink so you and your team can setup kills on void or lina coz I beleive that they will be your duel priority in mid game right? I haven't seen the whole video yet I am watching it on min 13
great contet bro❤,can you plz tell me why is allways 40 some minutes to find a game in 4 k bracket? i only play 1 or 2 games a night cuz of the loong machup .
decades of dedication and hardwork you finaly became 4k then BSJ releases video "This is why you are 4k"
I know right. It’s been a journey BSJ, how about a false peak. Not a freaking trench haha
Noob 4k you r no match for my 1k pups
Lol I am just legend 5 yesterday feel like finally close to coming back to ancient … then this lol

Hah BJS is actually complimenting me with this title. He's saying im 4 times better than the people i play with
as a 4k player I’m aware of these problems, but its hard to learn and implement these habits. once game starts, monkey brain takes over
Yeah exactly
Some people just have their limits very low...
You can compare it to anything in life , from driving to jobs etc.

what if my brain doesnt work@@matkoorsanic1292
so fucking relatable

I was around 4800 MMR, but fell down quite a bit to 4100 MMR and it seems I didn't move an inch for the past two weeks.
True, I don't have that much time to play because of work, but I'm just all over the place about what approach is the best for the team.
I usually ask the carry what would they want as a support, or just what they are picking so I could pick something good with that hero.
But I can't shake the feeling of being outpicked just from their first pick alone.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
I climbed from Herald 3 years ago to Ancient 2 as of yesterday. After having many months of experience on almost all hero’s I just play the meta picks.
i was roshan in this game and he is 100% right the enemy never touched my scaly skin because radiant was being oppresive
bsj, at 18:15 what should you do if the viper back off? it will be leave you in an awkward position but what should we do after that
Thanks for this video BSJ. I'll be sharing this video to all my pub teammates when I lose
this is why you 4k, smurfing.
3000 hours in, Crusader.
That awkward moment when you are 1k, and 4k seems to be so far away, LOL. :D
I blame my 1.5k on not enough safelane role queues
It's hard when you know these things and give the callouts but your team don't listen to you even if things happened already and you warn or give them info, they still don't listen.(SEA dota btw)
I just played with a LC Offlane and guess what. The Enemy Riki had more Duelldamage then my LC 10v0
She wasnt able to win 1 single Duell because she was always out of Position.
Either she was initiatet on and got killed first, or she was so far back the Fight was over when she arrived...
helllo bsj jjust wondering where i can contact you ive questions and willing to pay for you to coach me
the highlight for the enemy team was the play that cost them the game :P
my 3k ass watching this video: I knew I was 4k! yes!
On a more serious note, really nice analysis, thanks!
18:15 @bananaslamjamma you say you don't want to show on waves when you have duel. Would it change anything if the enemy team has a save like Wyvern or Dazzle?
bold of you to assume i'm at 4k
yes this is why I'm in 4k cause a smurf...
Great content. I think part of the failures also occur in the drafting, although no game is technically impossible, coukd you please creatr a guide for DRAFTING? It would help a lot of players and help balance the games. Many thanks
This is insanity😮
Theres so much i dont know about this game and yet ive played 3 thousand hours.
Guess i was just working at my mechanics😂
Time to use some real brain
I saw the title of this video and I was like, FUCK YES! I'M 4K!!!!
I was 900 mmr before this vid came up thx for the 3100 mmr bsj
BSJ: Telling advanced ideas how to play map.
Also BSJ doesn't buy shard which would give him 120-150 damage for 1400 gold. He should have bought that shard at 20min at latest.
as a 2k player i see this as absolute win
if 4k is prison them im in 2k solitary confinement
It's nice when you can communicate and they actually listen to you. Since I moved to China, I dropped from 5k to 1k. Nothing I do helps me win.
Haha the chinese are master learners, brother
Five minutes into video and so many details are being spilled onto me that I decide to forever stay at my 3.5k
Great vid tho
he could play with 200 ping to sinulate not being mechanically superior
somebody will think they are High Definition Display
small doubt on a decision here. Since you already felt that you were stronger than void at lane. Would it not be a priority for a blink so you and your team can setup kills on void or lina coz I beleive that they will be your duel priority in mid game right? I haven't seen the whole video yet I am watching it on min 13
Such a good video, please make more of those.
now waiting for the 5k version
Bsj has meta vision we don't
hey in SEA these days idk if its because of ESL . People basically stick 4 or 5 man from 12 min and push.... how do i deal with this
I'm 4k cause before my last ranked game I was 3990, and then I won the game
I was the courier in this game i can definitely tell you bsj absolutely destroyed them
Jokes on you, i dont even have mmr.
Great video thanks.
great contet bro❤,can you plz tell me why is allways 40 some minutes to find a game in 4 k bracket? i only play 1 or 2 games a night cuz of the loong machup .
Bring back your old outro song BSJ it gave me chills every time I heard it, for no particular reason
thnx for ur effort BSJ
it means alot for us
I was the wd, and we did that smoke... void was behind so was not able save Invoker with the last chrono...
