  • As part of their "NASCAR 75 in 75" segment before the 2023 Xfinity race at Daytona, FS1's Raceday showed the finish of the 1982 Goody's Sportsman 300. The race is significant as it was the first race of the reorganized Busch Series, now the Xfinity Series.
USA Network aired the 1982 Sportsman 300 tape-delayed on March 27, 1982. For the longest time, it seemed that the broadcast was lost since any time was race was discussed, only photos were shown. Now this rare footage has been pulled out of the NASCAR archive for seemingly the first time.
Check out our video of Lost NASCAR media we did a few years ago and how some races have surfaced: • Top 10 NASCAR Lost Med...

I hope we get more of this throughout the year. They go to racetracks with lost footage and show it during broadcasts. Kinda hoping they do the 1992 Busch Atlanta race when we go there next month. That'd be amazing!!

They ran some unique cars back then, that's for sure.

Most of the cars in this race were Pontiac Venturas. Sam Ard ran an Oldsmobile Omega, Tommy Houston and Delma Cowart ran Chevrolet Malibus, Joe Thurman ran a Dodge Challenger, a young Dale Jarrett ran a Ford Fairmont, Bill Venturini ran a Buick Regal, and John Anderson ran a Mercury Cougar. If I had to guess, I'd say the Malibus and Cougar were old Winston Cup cars.

DJ's brother Glenn Jarrett raced a Fairmont in the series too.

Look at that, guys can block without getting turned. Not like the mess we watch at the end of virtually every plate race nowadays.

@ryanwalker1593 well, I do think the restrictions are needed after the allison wreck a few years later.
They were going 200 mph easy yesterday which is fast enough honestly. Outside of superspeedways, I cannot defend the speed and hp being shaved

Buschwacking wasn't a term back when they wanted people to show up to watch the Busch Series races. It became a term when casual fans started whining.

The problem is NASCAR does not currently have an official generic name for the 2nd-tier series.

He won 5 straight Daytona races in the Busch series. You're just plain wrong. Cup drivers running in lower divisions hasn't ever been limited to just the past two decades. It's always been a thing, and though I don't like it, I can't do anything about it.
