Always used to enjoy asking owners of the first gen Bentayga how they were enjoying their Kuga. Joking apart, the first generation of these cars were appallingly put together, certainly from a fit and finish perspective, here's a challenge if you ever see an early one - see if it has an even and consistent tailgate gap (I'll give you a clue, they never do). Just do not get the hate for SUV’s. Typically no bigger footprint than an equivalent estate car, certainly no heavier than most premium electric cars, better visibility, easier to load, fantastic at towing and typically more comfortable. Down sides, higher running costs, do not handle quite as well as equivalent sized cars and slightly slower but in the real world of ever decreasing speed limits and other restrictions these thing matter little. I run a Q7 and find it easier to park and manoeuvre than an A6 avant. I am all about choice though and appreciate that they are not for everyone but I do not complain about people driving around in ridiculously wide two seater Italian exotics with even poorer eco credentials :-)
For many, SUVs are symbolic of a more opulent world they are excluded from, often through poor life decisions they've made along the way. These SUVs and their drivers become a focal point for their frustrations at their own lack of achievement. Screw 'em.
There are those of us who only own, AND WHO WILL ONLY OWN, 4 wheel drive vehicles who live on this planet, and here I'll speak for only myself: the newest model year vehicle I own is a 1999 Ford F-350 XLT Powerstroke diesel CrewCab (4 door) LongBox 4x4 truck, and I use it to tow one of my other three 4x4 vehicles, those being my 85 AMC Cj7, my 74 Ford Bronco (high horsepower 347 Ford small block powered), and my 44 Ford GP flat fender Jeep....I'll put it this way: who the hell do you think you are to tell me what type vehicle I "should" own and drive?! My 74 Bronco gets maybe, MAYBE, 8-10 miles a gallon and if you don't like that fact, IDGAF....not one of my rigs is mandated to be smogged save for the 99 F-350, and that's one of the many reasons I will only purchase older vehicles for the rest of my life (my 85 Cj7 is mandated to pass a smog test every other year , but since I replaced the stock motor with a Ford Coyote motor, I deleted all the smog reclamation system from my Jeep, so now I just pay a dude I know a couple 100 dollar bills, and then he "makes it" pass the smog test) ...not one of my rigs leaks a drop of anything, they sure as hell don't smoke, and I'll never not own and drive vehicles that ARE NOT "GREEN"....and besides, the batteries on junk electric cars are not recyclable as of yet, when they inevitably catch fire they are damn near impossible to extinguish, and quite frankly, I'm not a big enough of a POS to own and drive an EV.....
I hate SUVs with a passion. Unless people need a high vehicle for access due to limited mobility I don’t see the point of them. Otherwise get an estate. Some say they need an SUV for safety. But only need an SUV for safety from being hit by another SUV. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. Rant over.
Lol, maybe YOU don't need an SUV, but tons of people all over the world need them (not necessarily a Bentayga) for their daily task where they live. THINK!
The issue with the indicator stalks is that it is entirely linked to the pedals , steering , it’s hideously expensive to make the change to Bentley ones , which has always been disappointing, but sadly a no brainer from an accounting perspective. Another point to note , a lot of Bentley owners come from Mercedes and Land Rover and have barely stepped in a Audi Q7 , so it’s just a non issue on the showroom floor , it’s mainly noticed by motoring press more than buyers. Great review , balanced and fair.
As I grow older I appreciate manufacturer's that actually have an eye for reliability not just cutting edge technology. If I spend a house note on my transportation, I surely don't expect to be left on the side of the road due to a gang of faulty OBD II sensor or worse. If these auto manufacturers just built more reliable cars, trucks and suv's then word of mouth would increase there sales, period.. I love Range Rovers but only with an LS engine swap with accompanied transmission and ECU. Same can be said for the Jeep brand. You wouldn't catch me in one unless it had the aforementioned swap. I feel like if consumers spoke up against large corporations(through social media platforms, i.e. Me too, BLM) then we the people could actually get what we paid for. Just my 2 quid.

Interesting point here - no doubt of which you are already aware it’s possible. I recently purchased a Jaguar XJ Portfolio with only 47k for less than the cost in total of the options on the Bentley. Even more astounding (and I believe you mentioned that they should) is that the Jag has all but one of those options already in the spec, including the seat emblems massage and adaptive cruise control etc. Not only very comfortable lots of hand stitched leather- even suede. Alas, it on has a twin to V6 and is comparatively sluggish at 6 whole seconds to hit 60mph & ridiculous top speed of only 155mph. I am told that Bowers & Wilkins 1200watt sound system is pretty good quality as well The Jag also has sliding hatches to cover those never used ugly cup-holders. I like the verdant green , I am stuck with black and an Ivory interior. Seemingly the same clock (but probably not).

@@daleboyd8010 Most can't go offroad part is forgiven because they can still handle the average amount of offroading most people would ever do. It's like complaining about people buying crossovers in FWD rather than the AWD. Some people do really only want the higher ground clearance cause its easier to get in and out of compared to a car for example (don't have to bend down like in a car). They don't necessarily need AWD that's why such options exist. Its not stupid if it fits the needs of people. They aren't "slower" if they can accelerate at the same pace as most sportscars lol. Sure the higher you sit, the less you "feel" the speed. You're trading off the feel of speed for comfort and broader visibility. The looks and design of them is debatable, I won't get into that part.
Should I buy the 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8? Funny, that question is just what kept me from getting to sleep last night. But I'd have to sell the house and live in it ;-(
Points well taken about standard equipment, but it begs the question: Why would a manufacturer makes things standard, when the target market will happily pay extra for the options? Its just good business sense. Seems like most who might be prospective buyers wins as well: The one who just want a bentley badge dont have to pay extra for the things they dont want and the ones who want the extra goodies, probably can afford them as well? That leaves the folks that can afford the car and want the extras but cant afford those, but I would think they are the minority in being prospective customers for this car?
Was in a big SUV and was rear ended full speed by a car at a stoplight. We survived with no issues. In a car, we would have been dead. So, yeah, i will keep buying SUVs.
I hate 4X4's for all of those reasons and the fact that their "off road" ability is laughable, what I do like is meeting one coming the other way down a single track road when driving my 12 Tonne Unimog, they're that used to bullying everybody else on the road it's amusing to see the role reversal!😉😀

I like it but I agree no way could I live with the indicator stalks, I would gladly pay an extra 4k for carved walnut or even 5k for machined paladium stalks, il stay with range rover until the indicator stalk situation is resolved.
SUVs succeed because they're muscle wagon-hatches. People feel safer in them and that's mostly all that matters. They're like incredibly sweet snacks, they taste awesome but are actually dangerous and should be banned because people love them. In fact, some manufactures are trying the way of the high riding cars, which was a thing in the '30s (albeit with saloons and GTs) and that's miles better.
Thing is with Carwow is that if it ain’t German it gets slagged off. I’m sure the Germans must own Carwow or have got Mat Watson’s family held hostage.😂
I know exactly what you mean about 4x4s. I hate them, I think they're pointless, and I think everyone that buys them is a knob. However I've just ordered a new F Pace because I fell in love with it as soon as I drove it.
The interior between the 1st gen Bentayga and this one is pretty much identical except for the digital instrument cluster, infotainment screen, and the air vents in the center console. Everything else is the exact same.
The problem with the SUV being heavy isn't exclusive to it, cars have been getting heavier because of safety which is nice but also because of unnecessary technology like the electronic hand brake, electric windows, start stop buttons etc
LMAO I was just saying that the other day, I have never seen more Range Rovers in my life than in the last couple of years and I am in Michigan in the USA. 😂 Everyone seems to have been buying BMW and Range Rover suvs these days.

Should I buy the 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8? Funny, that question is just what kept me from getting to sleep last night. But I'd have to sell the house and live in it ;-(
Great photography! Love seeing the reflections on the windows and car.
Totally agree - feels like an Audi inside.
Nailing the chauffeur look there!👌
Believe me, they look MUCH better in the flesh, especially in black with black wheels.
Was in a big SUV and was rear ended full speed by a car at a stoplight. We survived with no issues. In a car, we would have been dead. So, yeah, i will keep buying SUVs.
It's becos of crash testing they use the Audi stalks it's too expensive to crash test other wise ....lol
Not that I could afford a vehicle in this price range, but while I really liked this review, I would still prefer the Porsche.
I hate 4X4's for all of those reasons and the fact that their "off road" ability is laughable, what I do like is meeting one coming the other way down a single track road when driving my 12 Tonne Unimog, they're that used to bullying everybody else on the road it's amusing to see the role reversal!😉😀
Really enjoyed them Jay. Cracking video
Wishing you all the best in growing your channel. Your an honest and unwavering journalist. And I love how they can never pay you off.your a man of the utmost integrity. Also loved your intro.....I hate 4 x 4 s....hate them....drove a range rover..loved it...drove an q7 loved it....drove an f pace..loved it....ha ha,l ha ha....love how you can change your mind and just be honest.honesty will get you there in the end, and bless your not as bland as some shmothers...lol
Great channel love it !
Absolutely love it!
Would I buy? Yes 🙌 In 5 years when it’s 30K
While I do agree crossovers/SUVs are giant prams lets not pretend that the RS6s and E63s car enthusiasts love aren't much lighter.
But the wagons do have a lower drag coefficient aswell
I like it but I agree no way could I live with the indicator stalks, I would gladly pay an extra 4k for carved walnut or even 5k for machined paladium stalks, il stay with range rover until the indicator stalk situation is resolved.
Great review - you’re right about the 8 plus gear changes on automatic large cars especially when they can’t pick the right gear for a roundabout.
Fantastic review, made me chuckle and has made my day 😂👍
driven audis, BMWs and Mercs and audis indicator stalks feel leagues ahead in terms of quality IMO
Another very entertaining video lad🤙
SUVs succeed because they're muscle wagon-hatches. People feel safer in them and that's mostly all that matters. They're like incredibly sweet snacks, they taste awesome but are actually dangerous and should be banned because people love them.
In fact, some manufactures are trying the way of the high riding cars, which was a thing in the '30s (albeit with saloons and GTs) and that's miles better.
Poor fuel consumption and being green coming from the fella with a 550 Maranello V12 and a V10 Lamborghini! 😂
Right? Absolute hypocrite.
@@JasonWaterfalls13 but they are not daily cars.
He's reviewing the car for potential buyers and people interested in the car for the hell of it. Those things might be an issue for them.
I would be interested to see a AM Dbx review
Great review aswell 👍🏻
There are only two types of 4x4 that are acceptable to be. Farm yard equipment, and the utterly bonkers.
Class sir...just like your shirt!
Keep up the good work!! great video
Absolutely love your content James !!
Carwow is overrated, I would rather watch JayEmm
I watched a couple of carwow vids. Can’t remember the name of the presenter I saw (is there more than one?). Really annoying guy.
@@sparky4878 Mat Watson
@@MetalHead1904 that’s the chap. Thank you.
@@sparky4878 no problem 👍
Thing is with Carwow is that if it ain’t German it gets slagged off. I’m sure the Germans must own Carwow or have got Mat Watson’s family held hostage.😂
Great review Jay but you should have given it a run off road too! Looks can be deceiving 🔱.
Objectively you are spot on but that shirt brings your aesthetic expertise into question 😂
The shirts serve a purpose ;)
Thanks J, good review!
That coat needs it's own channel.
🤣🤣🤣 Caught myself staring at it whilst trying to listen.
Very professional!!!👍🏻
love your videos my guy. keep it up
NO. Love the Conti, but in this category, RR or DBX every time.
Everyone seems to have been buying BMW and Range Rover suvs these days.
People who go an buy a Bentley aren't too interested in standard equipment it's all about the brand kudos to them.
Thank you for helping me through my partner watching Eurovision,👍
Stick with my BMW X5 M 45e thanks. The cup holders should have a cover they don't look great as they are.
I think Bentley has the better reminiscent of Vintage looks... Especially Mulsane
Beautiful colour, but alas, not the Bentley I would buy (in a dream)
Excellent review.
Range Rover owners get Ocado to deliver. It was the nanny at Waitrose...
as a bentley, how is it different to an audi/porsche/lambo in terms of comfort and performance?
the same compared to an aston, rolls, range rover, g-wagon?
