I have a 2017 Bentayga V8 Diesel and have to say it’s the best everyday car I’ve ever owned. I’ve had every Porsche including Panamera Sport Turismo but this is in a different class. It does everything so very very well and I regularly get over 40 mpg on long runs. It has the cabin of a Continental GT but the practicality of a Range Rover. I’ve taken it across fields and down river banks when I go fishing and it takes everything in its stride. I did have some custom rubber floor mats made for everyday use. Highly recommend this car. By the way your videos are very good. 👍

I’ve driven a few of them and for a reasonable distance. All of them were petrol models and they all had the same effect on me, and that was when I got to the customer’s house or place of business. I simply didn’t want to hand it over to them. I wouldn’t hesitate to get one if it wasn’t for the fact of the maintenance. I could probably buy one with a little bit of juggling, but the potential for ruining my experience should I encounter a big issue, although I do have no illusions about the cost of general servicing and replacement of brakes, tires etc…….oh well, I hope you’re still happy with the one you have.

Loving your video edits with seamless B roll. As to the car, I drive a full size SUV granted not a Bentley, but they make sense for comfort and room onboard. If I ever was looking at a high value car, I'd seriously look at staying with an SUV. Not a fan of the Rolls though, still think it looks like a London Taxi, especially in black

Tomorrow, I go in to get my Bentayga. It's a w12 Mulliner Black Edition, with white and black interior, with most options (night vision, HUD, rear entertainment, cameras all around, etc). CPO from Bentley. I'm so excited and nervous. But I haven't heard many horror stories, so fingers crossed

As a machine in terms of engineering and craftsmanship. There’s a lot to like it. But I find it vulgar and ostentatious. But like you said, certain colour and specifications can look more tasteful. I understand why Bentley made it because there’s a healthy market for SUVs.

The problem with Crossovers/SUVs isn't nescessarily the cars, it's the drivers. The type of people who would like to speak to the manager, or only ever drives it down the local highstreet, or to their kids school that is walking distance from their house.

Had to purchase a hub cap badge [1 1/2 inches diameter] centre for a Bristol in 1976 - those little badge collectors! The cost is seared into my brain - £50. Some £380 in today’s money. Watch for those unexpected extras with luxury lubley cars!!! Great review as usual. Those servicing costs are not bad. Maybe diesel luxury is the way to go!

Further thoughts! Is there not a way for you to turn off comments if you are trying to sell for a friend? Me, I do not find them at all ostentatious and being a bit slow am beginning to wonder if Diesel Luxury Pre Owned is the better way to go. Those servicing costs per annum, even if it is plus parts, are not bad. Very nice car all round. Great review ride video again.

As you say, some do not like the looks but just get in one and it rather changes your mind…you don’t care if the neighbours hate you…YOU know why you bought it. I’m waiting for a low mileage V8 but it must have Sunshine, City and Touring packs plus be a Mulliner specification and have Naim HiFi…so I shall have to start looking again once we have sold a house or two! 😎😎😎😎

    And huge breadth of capability.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Brand new Range Rover or a pre owned Bentayga? True the worst depreciation has already happened on the Bentayga, but the off-road capability of the Range Rover is legendary. And the road presence of the Bentayga is just that little more.

I have to disagree about the G Wagon……. The G Wagon reminds me of Brentwood, where I live…… a fairly quiet well to do town, separated from the London sprawl by the green belt - sadly tarred by the arrival of TOWIE and its orange painted entourage….
The G Wagon was an Austrian/German military 4x4, with the performance of a medium sized glacier…. and the structural integrity of a bank vault…… now, with a V8 reactor under the bonnet, comedy exhausts by Matrix Churchill and a Puff Diddly Gangsta at the wheel…. they’re ruined…..🙁 but, they still retain the galvanised shed profile 🙂

I bought a new Bentley Bentayga Diesel in 2017 (Mulliner Spec), amazing performance and great fuel economy but it was back at with Bentley every month as the sump filled with diesel every 3.5k miles, dash warning to reduce oil level (according to Bentley this was normal). Micro blistering under the paintwork (in various places) which Bentley eventually resprayed under warranty and tyres at £620 a corner. Mulliner spec does give heated steering wheel and massage seats but overall not worth the £156k price tag, needless to say I wouldn't get another (diesel sales stopped in 2019).

Looks are subjective (not for me) but they are a very well accomplished and high quality product we a great engine. The interior oozes quality

I can categorically testify that my car (had it 4yrs now) regularly exceeds 40mpg. In fact we’re heading to Scotland in it tomorrow and if I stick to 70mph it will be +40mpg on the way north in absolute comfort and luxury. I can’t speak highly enough of the car because next week it will be ploughing across fields to the river bank without breaking sweat covered in mud. Brilliant car.

I completely understand your gripe with heated steering wheels Matt, I drive a 2018 Astra Elite that I got my old man, it has heated seats front and back and a heated steering wheel and once you have it you don't want to go without 🤣
I've been toying with treating myself to a bmw or merc, but the lack of heated steering wheels is a joke, as they're hidden in overpriced packs. It's a joke that a Bentayga doesn't have it as standard.

£1200 for a service?? I could buy another RX for the price of 3 Bentley services haha
Loved the Alderlyedge, wilmslow and Hale Barnes references, spot on!!! (Although you forgot to mention Prestbury)
As nice as these cars are (X5, Q7, RR) I’ll stick to the Japanese - Lexus or Land Cruiser…. 😂

The Bentayga maybe a cut above a Range Rover, and for those with limitless finances that will be all the justification needed for its purchase, BUT to me the Range Rover is unbeatable, it fits in with so many life styles and is virtually classless whereas the Bentayga just ends up looking vulgar...

The main issue with the Range Rover (especially where I am) is that they are very very common. They also have the blot of the neck tatted, Armani tracksuit wearing Sport owner to tarnish the image. I also don't know anyone (1st hand) who has not had constant problems with JLR products from new. If it was my choice, the RR wouldn't be mine. However I do have a soft spot for the Galaendewagen, ever since I saw my Uncle's in 1980s Hamburg. Just sheer bank vault bullet proof quality.

Personally... this or a Range Rover? Range Rover for me. I'm not convinced by the styling, it's subjective I know but I think the lights are odd, the grille is too big, the lines are poorly resolved. The engineering while I'm sure is perfectly competent is entirely VW, all they do is assemble and paint these cars in the UK, the interior looks amazing and I like the customisation in the UK but then it should for the price. On the price, for a second hand one of these you could almost get a new Range Rover. It's flashy for the sake of it, not a special as it appears on the surface and also Its just not that... hate to say this... cool.

Thanks for a good analysis of the Bentley but I’m not convinced, this is just a shared vw platform with Bentley badges , the front end looks like a late 90’s Corolla, I would far prefer a Range Rover because it’s a pure vehicle. Bentley are just re-badged vw/Audi group cars, simple as that

@@apanda1662 The platform and several parts are similar, but there are many differences that lead to a difference in ride quality and performance, all which costs more, but are afforded by the target customers. This includes suspension and the engines, but the interior itself is a huge difference (if it matters to you). The guys at Bentley also modify a lot of the parts. I saw a comment from a guy saying he used to work for Bentley and recalled how "they would improve the VW systems to the annoyance of the Germans." Sounds like Saab and GM. And, Ford make good cars.

@@Spenny909 I take your point, but if we cast our minds back a few years , it was ok for everyone to criticise the Jaguar X-Type due to it sharing parts with the Ford Mondeo, but because this vehicle has a Bentley badge , we are somehow being guided to overlook its roots. The X-Type was vastly improved over the Ford underpinnings yet it was vilified. I’m sorry but there is a very large dose of hypocrisy going on here and I certainly wouldn’t pay the price Bentley are asking for what essentially is an Audi Q7
