Just a bit of trivia about the choice of villains for this movie that brought the Avengers together: In the very first issue of the Avengers in 1963 it was a plan by Loki that brought them together. In 2002, the "Ultimates" Universe (Earth 1610) version of The Avengers were brought together by SHIELD to stop a Chitauri invasion. So basically this movie combined both comic origins for the team into one big event and paid homage to both.
Um actually, sorry to be that guy, but the Ultimates were brought together after Magneto attacked Washington DC. SHIELD and the US Government wanted a team of superhumans to fight future Magnetos. But since Magnetos don't come along everyday, it was part of the story that the Ultimates were basically sitting around doing nothing for a while. Until Bruce Banner, a member of the team, secretly injected himself with some new Hulk serum and went on a rampage through Manhattan. The Ultimates didn't fight the Chitauri until their second major storyline...though that is where the Chitauri first appeared.
In 1963, Iron Man was still wearing what is now called the Mark 1 armor, painted gold. Hank Pym was still Ant Man, with the original cybernetic helmet, seen briefly in the Endgame movie.
This is honestly my favorite portrayal of the Hulk in the MCU. That pure, raw FURY that he exhibits on the Helicarrier and in the 3rd Act fight is just perfect. There is something very appealing about letting go of literally everything and becoming a big green rage monster. HULK HATE STAIRS!!!
Even though a certain relationship in Age of Ultron was a bit... out of nowhere (I doubt Vicky is reading all of these, but trying not to spoil it anyway), I think Joss Whedon is the one that wrote the Hulk the best. I think he's the one that made Banner's resentment and fear of the Hulk the most compelling, without skimping on the Hulk smashing we all want to see. I don't dislike Hulk in Endgame like some people, but I do wish the path to that point wasn't as rushed as it was. He really deserved some solo movies, too bad about the whole Universal thing.
@@GreatSpaceToaster theres some interview somewhere where he talked about treating the hulk like someone who is a wearwolf/wolfman. in terms of what he latched onto that makes that character interesting
Still prefer Norton's. Feels like the truer type of character having to constantly be on the run. Also because Hulk becomes too much of a humour character in the later films.
This is also my favorite portrayal of Banner by far. He gets weirdly silly later on, but here everything about Mark Ruffalo's acting is on point. He takes the weight and cost of having this indestructible monster inside of him so seriously. It makes sense he would move on from that as he learns to accept himself but he's never quite as compelling to me as he is here.
You couldn't breath?.......By the sound of it, Neither could Loki ! That pathetic little wheeze while embedded in the floor was absolute butter on toast.
The outtakes are hilarious. When Hiddleston filmed Loki wheezing after getting thrashed around by the Hulk, he kept breaking into laughter ‘cause it was so funny..
Tom’s spoken about the bts of that scene quite a bit. There was no hulk or Mark, just him jumping into a bunch of pre-made trenches with Joss’ directing him to wheeze in pain, lol. Love watching Tom crack up on outtake vids. Tom Hiddleston is just a big excitable puppy, especially compared with Loki, always fun to see the contrast.
I'm almost certain I read somewhere that his moaning sounded so authentic because he smacked his elbow on the ground while they filmed, and his moaning was because of that pain. Of course I could be wrong, I just remember reading that somewhere.
As amazing as the movie is the strongest moment for me: "There are always men like you." A great image in any context, coming from a German man of that age, unforgettable.
The old man who stood up to Loki and said there are always men like you was created as someone who lived through WW2 Nazi Germany. He had serious guts! He would rather die on his feet than live bowing to a tyrant.
The craziest thing about this movie to me is that this was the first MCU movie I watched. I hadn't grown up on comics, my main exposure to superheroes had been the DCAU, the last superhero movie I'd seen was the first X-Men movie, which I thought was so bad I wrote off the entire genre. I saw Avengers in theaters solely on a friend's rabid endorsement. And not only did I have a great time, but without having seen ANY of the preceding movies or having any other preexisting familiarity with any of the characters, I understood who everyone was, what they were doing, and why they were doing it. That's just excellent film making.
Honestly I think that's one of the most impressive things about the MCU as a whole. For the most part you can watch pretty much any film as your starting point and it'll make sense as its own thing. Sure you'll get more out of them if you know the bits that slot together around it but it's not required. Hell I know someone who, for some reason, started with *Endgame* and they followed along just fine and enjoyed the hell out of it.
While those are some good points, I find it mad that you wrote off an entire genre based on one film. There's loads of bad horror films, but that doesn't mean there's no value in the genre. But I guess this film changed your mind :)
Even with the cloud that now obscures his legacy, Joss Whedon deserves great credit for the work he did here, making The Avengers accessible to newcomers like yourself while adding so much additional detail & depth for those who had been along for the entire ride. Also, as an addendum, the X-Men movies are not really considered part of the MCU. At least not at the moment, lol
Captain's shield is made of Vibranium, mentioned in the first movie rather quickly before Peggie plugs rounds into it _important quality to keep in mind_ : it is able to absorb or disperse both vibrational and kinetic energy - it enables Cap to do some crazy things like not feel much impact going into the shield - Thor's hammer hitting it basically dispersed all the energy into the surrounding trees while Cap's arm was A-OK
"You can't argue with Gods." -VKunia "Puny god." -Hulk So since you asked about it, both Loki and the Avengers when they're fighting are being influenced by the scepter. That's why they have the upside-down pan to the scepter during the fight with it making that ominous tone - it's driving them to conflict.
One of the few comments I've seen mentioning that! Most folks are like "why are the fighting!?" I like Cap's response: "There's only one God, and he doesn't dress like that." Despite being an atheist, Whedon gives his religious characters some great lines.
If you wanna see more of Agent Coulson they bring him back in the show “Agents of Shield.” I can’t say how because it’s part of the show. It’s what we call an Expanded Universe show that’s not necessarily cannon but can be. But some EU characters have made it into the mainstream continuity like the original Jarvis and Wilson Fisk.
The canonicity of that show is something I'll debate to the end of time because of how much I love it haha. Technically nothing in it has ever truly been overruled, so I'll stick to that explanation as long as I can.
@@WDanielFichtel SHIELD is an interesting discussion because they directly reference several of the films even as late as season 5. So long as no future films or Disney Plus shows directly contradict it, I'm going to act as if it's in the same universe. Not going to say anything specific in case anyone reading this hasn't seen the show, but if you have, you know what I'm referencing.
@@jackgomes3861 Agents of SHIELD? Honestly... I hope not. I thought it ended pretty perfectly. I'd love to see the characters come back in other shows, but I don't need another season of Agents of SHIELD.
Without getting into spoilers, your confusion over Loki's degree of evil is justified - you are correct that there is/should be at least some good in him. It'll be explained why he was 'off' here. The Avengers was a true accomplishment as the culmination of a larger story set up by multiple independent films. It was something unmatched at that point in time in modern cinema. Was being the operative word. Buckle up, darlin', there's going to be some 'beer holdin' coming up.
While Loki was the villain that brought the Avengers together it was really the death of Coulson (or as Thor says Son of Coul lol) that made them become a team and gave them something to "avenge"
The shield is vibranium. It can deflect monstrously huge amounts of kinetic energy. Because the energy had nowhere to go it deflected outwards flattening trees around them. It's to show A. That the shield can deflect huge amounts of kinetic energy and B. How powerful Thors casual hammer swing is.
It’s not a sin as a DC fan to enjoy these movies, if anything it’s awesome, there’s so many more movies to check out :) There’s a reason Marvel is ahead of DC with films, at least. Kevin Feige makes sure a lot of things are quality. DC has good animated ones. Each universe has strengths in different areas.
whoever is in charge of the DC animated movies needs to be put in charge of the live action ones. the difference in quality of storytelling is staggering.
@Rick Kivari I wouldn't call the Spider-Man movies crap, nor Black Widow or Shang Chi. Ant-Man and the Wasp was very good. Captain Marvel was ok. The next movies include Dr. Strange 2 & Thor 4. Waititi only directs Thor; didn't write it. That might be good. After that I can't say. Maybe if they see numbers fall the way Lucasfilm's did, they'll change course. If you hadn't noticed, the Marvel TV shows have been excellent. We've already seen Kingpin & Matt Murdock. I wonder who's next, Punisher?
Captain America’s shield is made of Vibranium, they acknowledge that quickly in his solo movie, The First Avenger. It’s one of the strongest metals in the Marvel universe.
In the MCU. In the comics Vibranium is very strong but not nearly as strong as some others and Cap's shield is a Vibranium alloy that seems tougher than all of them.
Vibranium also absorbs energy, so Cap didn't really feel the impact of Mjolnir. That's also why he raised the shield against that grenade. P.S. The scene in Captain America: First Avenger, when he asked Peggy her opinion about the shield was priceless.
Looking forward to this one! 😊 So many good moments in this movie. The "Puny God" moment with Hulk and Loki at the top of that list. 😂 Congratulations Vicky on finishing Phase 1 of the MCU! On to Phase 2 beginning with "Iron Man 3". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
I love that scene so much, I make sure if there is anyone with me I tell them "Quiet" just so I can clearly hear that painful little inhaling moan Loki make while buried in the floor. Puny Gods !
Dr. Erik Selvig is played by the Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard. His Hollywood filmography is filled with major films ('he Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mamma Mia, The Pirates of the Caribbean films, Good Will Hunting, and others). He also has two grown sons who are also actors...Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise in the 'IT' movies).
I don't know if this is spoilers, as it's not said in the movies, just confirmed by the people who make the movies, that Loki was under the influence of the scepter, not in the same manner as Hawkeye and Erik, but still. And his mind is definitely off with how he believes Thor "threw him into an abyss" instead of letting go like he did. And the shape he was in when he first came out of the portal to earth shows that he might not have been treated so well where he was.
And few people notice that the one moment that he sounds like his normal suave self was after Hulk smashed him. Or that we would never know if his eyes were blue from the mind stone because we never see his real form. "Normal" Loki is a shapeshift/illusion and his Jotun form is what he should really look like.
Where is it ever confirmed the scepter effected his mind? Please tell me the exact scene in which movie. I think he really was just that afraid of Thanos. Why would the advisor dude telepathically threaten Loki to do what Thanos wants if the stone had control over him?
@@Harkness78 I believe Marvel released an article about it where they said the sceptre was influencing him, as in fuelling his anger and resentment from Thor 1, not necessarily controlling him outright. Which is why the threat of violence from Thanos and the Chitari leader is still needed. This was around late phase 3, I suppose because they had plans for Loki moving into a protagonist role in his tv show, though there are hints throughout the film that after Thor 1 he had a rough time and isn’t necessarily doing this for his own reasons.
@@Incoherent-excitement And we saw how powerful that influence is too, when the Avengers were arguing with each other and Bruce picked up the scepter. I imagine it has a very strong effect. How much Steve was willing to fight Tony for not being serious struck me as unusual considering how anti bully he is. But maybe that's just my perspective on it. xD
Fun Fact: Loki's eyes are naturally green, whilst Tom Hiddleston's is naturally blue. They had to CGI it for his appearance in the Thor movie, but for most of the Avengers movie they just kept his eyes the natural blue. There's a reason his eyes are blue and why you only catch a glimpse of his eyes turning green whilst talking to Thor in the Avengers Tower.
You articulated what's so great about this movie so well. No movie is perfect, but everthing this movie sets out to do and to be, it executes darn near perfectly. It's just one of the most complete movies ever made. Later MCU movies may top it in scale, but this movie was a pioneer and there's hardly a wasted line of dialogue. It really is special.
Fun Fact: The security guard that Bruce talks to after he falls from the ship was originally supposed to be The One Above All, the most powerful character in the Marvel Multiverse, who appeared as an old man in the comics.
10 years later (sh*t I can’t believe how long it’s been) and this is still in my top 3 MCU movies. Sure Infinity War+Endgame are epic but there’s just something so special about seeing various components from various Phase 1 movies (the Macguffin from Captain America, the villain from Thor, etc.) and the team members finally assembling for the first time
I didn't even realize it's been 10 years already? I feel really old. I was still in school and still remember watching it during the premier. Such a good time
Infinity War and Endgame are a bit weird when rewatched. They don’t hold up very well. Spider-Man stabbing loads of creatures to death especially doesn’t hold up. Proper freaky weirdo filmmaking. They’re not superhero films.
@@TheFlash-rh2el Also, if you watched Spiderman Homecoming, you’d know that the A.I. System is the one who does the stabbing because it’s in kill mode. Since it’s Stark tech, he put it there to keep Peter safe.
The shield is made of vibranium, and for a brief period in the 1980s, due to a misunderstanding of the editor of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, his shield was supposed to be an alloy of vibranium AND adamantium (the stuff that Wolverine's metallic claws are made of).
8:15 "In the _end,_ you will _always_ kneel." "Not to men like you." "There _are_ no men like me." "There are _always_ men like you." Look at this man. He's German and he's old enough. He remembers.
To bad he didn't do anything when he was younger. Àll those cowards ran away from a freak with a glowing stick.. they didn't know what it was they just ran away screaming
Man with all the hype and madness of modern day MCU movies it's been ages since I last saw the original Avengers and I seriously forgot how damn good it is. This movie is so iconic, a timeless classic that will go down in cinematic history. Wait till you see the rest of the movies and where they take the story. It's an absolutely epic ride of explosive fun, thrilling excitement and heartwrenching emotion. You'll be surprised by how deep these movies go, how well they are thought out and how attached you become once you get into the universe, take it all in and absorb the MCU as an organic, ongoing story. That is quite frankly a massive part of the MCU's appeal and the reason why it has been so absurdly successful. I sound like a complete fanboy, but what Marvel has built truly is special.
Trivia: In the comics, the Avengers first gathered in reaction to intercepting a signal sent by Loki in an attempt to trap Thor. The original comics incarnation was also Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, and the Wasp. Also... heard a meow more than a few times. :D
I've been a fan of superheroes all my life. I loved each of the first five MCU movies, but, when this was released, it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen committed to film - and I was in my 50s at the time, so that covers a LOT of ground.
when Fury said, "As of this moment, we are at war.", reminds me of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica (2004) when Commander Adama, played by Edward James Almos, said the same thing.
"If you're in a city like this, you could shoot a civilian." Meanwhile, in another universe, Godzilla scrapes some civilians from his feet. "Darn humans just have to built their cities where I walk..."
@@johngardner4096 Man, I would love to see a reaction to "Shin Godzilla". I'd love to see "Shin Godzilla" again myself, come to think of it. I adore that movie. Not least because it has the most competent government I've seen in a long, long time.
This is such an awesome movie. I cant remember the number of times I've seen it in the theaters. The first time I saw Hulk smashing Loki, I couldn't stop laughing for 10-20 minutes. Plus I love the way you were like "Again, please"
I will say that you are correct in saying that a submarine would have been safer than an aircraft carrier. I was a sonar technician on board a submarine. We did battle with aircraft carriers and always won. And let me tell you, hearing a jet take off from an aircraft carrier from underwater is quite the experience. Also, they would always be pinging us with their sonar, but they never found us. Submarines don't use active sonar. That would give away our location. We use what we call passive sonar. We listen to the water in all directions. We know where everything is, how far away it is, how fast it's going, what kind of vessel it is, and in what direction it is headed. All that we can ascertain just by listening. We are the silent service.
You’re gonna love these movies and characters more and more as you make your way through the MCU. It’s a beautifully connected tapestry of stories and characters blended together so well.
Love this reaction. The best part of it was how you were so invested in what was going on, you completely ignored your cat’s repeated cries for attention…
This is one of my favorite in the MCU. I was kinda skeptical that they could balance the characters together, but they did a fantastic job. Good reaction video.
When we saw this in theaters there was a wave of people just cheering and reacting similar to you just in waves of celebration, it marked a flag of expectations and world building that became a Marvel touch brand that we celebrate today, I'm glad to tell you it gets better
The MCU hav, what the DCU is missing. This emotion of brave surprising and totaly exitement. The colorful personality of each character. And the glowing spark of warm humor. MARVEL did everything right with its vision. From the selection of the script, the directors to the actors, it will take a long time for DC to understand how this is done. ... P.S .: I've been one of DC's biggest fans myself since I was a child. Still, I have to acknowledge what MARVEL has created within 10 years.
The look on Fury's face when Rogers hands him the 10. He'd forgotten the bet. But, the Captain has a photographic memory so he didn't forget and honored the bet.
V: “If they aim the wrong way they could hurt civilians.” Me: *patiently waits for Civil War reaction.* V: “All these characters have grown on me so much.” Me: *also patiently waits for Civil War.*
Hahaha, She will cry a lot! If you are so emotionally attached to the heroes you either understand both sides or you distance your self from one of them just to fall in love again in infinity war.
I mean, it's accurate though.Apparently a single shot from a Chitauri caused a 100% increase in sales of bows in NYC! Granted the annual total before that was... uh, let's see here... 1 but still, doubling sales is pretty impressive!
@@smiddlehurst1 wasnt the "mokingbird" hungergames series out back then? I remember seeing a video about sales and members in archer clubs rising because of that.
There are a lot of things in the battle of New York you will soon learn about. They are in movies and shows such as: 1) Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013): How the battle and The Avengers strengthened S.H.I.E.L.D., the United Nations, and such. 2) Marvel Studios Avengers: Endgame (2019): During a “Tim Heist”, we see The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents (Actually HYDRA.) take Loki away, but an incident happens. 3) Marvel Studios Hawkeye (2021) as a girl, Kate Bishop (The second Hawkeye.) was rescued by the original Hawkeye (Clint Barton) for a Chitauri alien. 4) Marvel Studios Loki (2021): See Endgame 5) Marvel Studios Captain America: Civil War (2016): Thad Ross and The Avengers watch past videos of their previous battles, and soon learn THEY TO cause massive destruction, which left a choice that affected the fate of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. 6) Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 4 years ago in 2012, Adrian Toomes and his salvation workers were cleaning up the battle, when Tony Stark replaced them with the group “Damage Control”. They fix, clean up,and rebuild buildings The Avengers and the Chitauri aliens destroyed in battle. Toomes and his men can’t go out of business, so they took the alien tech for themselves and sold it on the illegal black market. With the tech, Toomes created a special wing suit and called himself “The Vulture”. He and Herman Shultz, who modified a gauntlet that can discharge electricity to become a small, yet EXTREMELY POWERFUL shockwave originally used by used by Brock Rumlow, who called himself “Crossbones”, A nemesis of Captain America and his new group of Avengers. Shultz then called himself “The Shocker”. They we’re then tangled by The Web of Spider-Man.
This was the second feature film that Joss Whedon directed, following the excellent Serenity, which wrapped up loose ends of his Firefly TV series. Firefly's production didn't last long, but it lives on in the hearts of its fans.
I'm swedish so I felt almost obligated to comment that Stellan Skarsgård (the actor who plays Erik Selvig the scientist) is swedish which is why you detected an accent. Loved the video :)
That feeling is why a lot of people prefer MCU movies over most DCEU movies. DC had some good ones. Aquaman and Shazam come to mind, but the problem is Marvel doesn't slow down. What you have seen is phase 1. Phase 2 is better. Phase 3 is better than that. What we have seen of phase 4 it is just as good as phase 3. The latest Spider-Man is the best earning Spider-Man film, and the best earning Sony film ever. DC has, and will, put out more great movies, but they just can't compare to the cultural phenomena of Marvel.
Marvel has Kevin Feige. DC doesn't. There are many others, of course - Joss Whedon, the Russo Bros, etc. - but when you really get down to it, that's the difference.
#coulsonlives ----------------- The man who (literally) stood up to Loki is, I think, the bravest person in the film. ------- Loki: "In the end, you will always kneel." Old man: "Not to men like you." Loki: "There are no men like me." Old man: "There are always men like you.
I will stop whatever I'm doing to enjoy this. There's many bars in the MCU, this was the first time it was raised, the next being capt america 2, then almost every movie after lol
God, I can't believe this movie will be 10 years old in a few months. I still remember the sheer euphoria I felt coming out of the theater. Iron Man was the one that started it all, but The Avengers was the one that made it a cultural phenomenon that's still going strong to this day. I think the MCU has made better movies since then, but I still love it.
I did see that you watched the post-credits scene but having not mentioned it, you'll now have to deal with the wrath of the post-credit scene police 🚓
One thing that is great to watch with Iron Man, is that each new suit is a direct response to something that Tony failed on before. When Thor hits him with the lighting and it charges the suit to 400% capacity, it is because Whiplash in Iron Man 2 had electrical attacks that caused the suit to short out, so he adapted. And the one thing that EVERY suit does, is increase how quickly he can put it on, because Tonys first ever failure as Iron Man, was not being fast enough to save Yinsen in the caves. If that suit didnt take so long to power up, Yinsen would never had had to buy him time, and might just have survived. That guilt is the underlying drive for every improvement he ever makes to that armour, so that he never has to fail again. It is cool to see if you can work out what each upgrade in in response to though.
It's my favorite MCU movie hands down. Really fantastic film and it's not surprising that a Browncoat like you would like it when Joss Whedon takes the reigns. He actually crafted the meta-story from Avengers on through to Endgame that the rest of the films follow, although he only wrote and directed a couple of films in the MCU and some stuff ended up being changed when the films all were actually shot. Too bad he seems to be a jerk to work with, hopefully he can find a way to redeem himself cause damn he can make an epic movie/TV show.
It seems like he's only a jerk to work with if you're a jerk to work with. Scarlet Johansson still texts with him, apparently, and everyone from Firefly is, well, you know.
I think his values are at odds with his temperament. He's an extraordinarily intense and ill-tempered man. But an absolute genius. This is pretty much a perfect movie.
SHIELD Guy: "We're flying blind. Navigation's recalibrating after the engine failure." Nick Fury : "Is the sun coming up!? Carrier Bridge Tech : "Yes, sir." Nick Fury : "Then put it on the left!" Joss Whedon's dialogue is something to behold. So simple and yet so satisfying sometimes. This was one of the lines that came out of nowhere and really endeared me to the film. Every interaction serves the greater story and often just the mechanical concerns of the narrative. And nearly every line does it with some style.
The old security guard that throws Banner the pants is Harry Dean Stanton, he played Brett in Alien, he was in the area when they were filming and they asked him if he wanted to do a cameo.
He also played "Bud" in _Repo Man,_ another great movie featuring aliens. (Also _Kelley's Heroes,_ _Escape from New York,_ and tons of television since the 1950's!)
Dr Selvig is played by Stellan Skarsgård, who also is Alexander Skarsgårds dad, and they are Swedish so his accent is a Swedish one (like mine would be if you heard me saying this lol). Although Selvig is a Norwegian name so I think his character is supposed to be Norwegian.
8th grade was so hyped when this came out, I remember it kickstarting fan culture for a lot of us. Heck mason was Captain America, Juan was Hulk, Matthew was Thor, I was hawkeye ugh the whole thing really sparked everyones love for the mcu
Fun facts: 1. The waitress is played by Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us 2. One of the Councilmen was played by Powers Boothe, and the character was featured more in Agents of SHIELD, which was the last role he did. R.I.P. 😭
Great reaction, I loved this film when it was released. I saw it at the cinema and immediately after obtained a copy from a friend and watched the film twice more in full over the course of week and watched the last battle another 3 times also in that week, that's how much I enjoyed the film I have never done that before or since. Fyi hulk punching thor was a little payback from being punched around by thor earlier in the film. Oh and Phil coulson is the main character in the TV show agents of shield so they managed to keep him alive after all.
After much consideration, I think I have it worked out: Loki's superpower is a preternatural ability to change people's opinion of him. Y'know, opinions like --I think he's good --I think he's bad --I think he's happy --I think he's sad --i think he's a safely-guarded prisoner --I think he's dead
Now comes the task of remembering all kinds of stuff from each movie from here on out and how they get referenced in future movies and it brings about closure to character arcs. Now it's time for Phase 2!
If it makes you feel better they did bring back Coulson, they made a spinoff series called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it's pretty good, first season is a bit Monster of the Week but it gets solid momentum and for the first few seasons ties into some of the MCU movies
Let me rephrase that: It takes a couple of episodes for the usual set-up and then turns into a mindblowingly awesome show with some of the best Marvel characters and storylines PERIOD My favorite Marvel property up to date, and that includes the movies (which I still love)!
"That blew all of the previous movies out of the water" 😆 That is the reason why I rate the four Avengers movies seperate from the rest, they deserve their own category.
I think you would really like the show Agents of Shield, but it get's a little spoilery if you haven't seen Winter Soldier. You could probably start it now if you take your time, but I think the end of season one is kind of tied to The Winter Soldier.
I do otherwise second this if it's something that sparks interest, though you shouldn't start until after Iron Man 3. I'd also suggest watching the short Item 47 prior.
Simple fix. Watch "Agents of Shield" up to Episode 15 before watching "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". The tie in with Winter Soldier kicks in with episode 16 "End of the Beginning".
Hey, fellow D.C. girl! I read more D.C, growing up than Marvel, but what converted me to Marvel was the X-Men. I wasn't interested in Iron Man or Cap, but I did read the occasional story arc when they had something good going. But this MCU took the best of the best stories and brought them to life! Loved your reactions.
"I grew up as a DC fangirl, so watching Marvel is a sin or something." (paraphrased) I'm really glad that nobody told me I had to pick one or the other, because I've loved both ever since I was a little little kid.
That moment when Hulk is looking at Natasha over his shoulder, you can see Banners eyes filled with sorrow, that last second before Hulk takes completely control.
I remember seeing this film in theaters for my friend's birthday. This was my real introduction to the MCU or the film the really got me into it. My two favorite scenes are the German man who stands up to Loki (though the fact that actor goes on to play Heinrich Himmler in The Man in the High Castle takes away from it a little bit) and then the Hulk tossing Loki around like a rag doll. When that seen came on, we all stood up and applauded the Hulk.
For more Phil Coulson give the 'Marvels Agents of Shield' show a try. The first couple of series live in the overall Universe timeline before it expands away on its own.
The best thing about the MCU is that it is _constant_ change and (usually) growth. From superficial elements like costume upgrades to essential character arcs, nothing ever truly "resets to normal" and groundwork was laid down in the beginning that wouldn't pay off for over a decade.
This one still holds up for me. I have very mixed feelings about Whedon's work usually, but The Avengers only has a few minor things I don't like when I look back at it. I still remember it as the best movie theater experience I ever had. Also the only midnight premiere I ever attended. There's two parts in this movie that always bring me back to that night, now almost ten years ago (omg what) 1) when Bruce says 'that's my secret Captain, I'm always angry' and transforms into Hulk to stop tge alien whald monster 2) when Hulk and Thor fight together on another whale monster. I remember exactly what it felt like to watch those moments ❤
Its a cool detail, that Tony always upgrades his suit with what he learned from the previous movie. For example, in this he absorbs Thors thunder, because of the modifications Tony made after fighting Whiplash in Iron Man 2
You pointed out that panning shot. That one shot took $10 million to shoot and get right. It was a gutsy move by Feige with no guarantee of success. Yet it became the most popular scene in the entire film.
In my opinion, this is one of your best reaction videos. It's clear how much you are enjoying this ride and it's still very early in the journey. You have the best facial expressions and your commentary really adds an even more entertaining element to already very entertaining movies. Hopefully the rest of the ride through the MCU grips you as much as phase 1 has!

Knew about the 1963, didn't know about the Ultimates origin of the team. Very cool, thanks for sharing!
Seriously that’s awesome
You are huge nerds. I mean that as a compliment! I'm impressed with the depths of your nerd knowledge, well done! :)
He really could have just jumped out the window and met them downstairs
If you ever wanted to hear a theater die of uncontrollable laughter, listen to a Hulk Smash Loki. We couldn't breathe.
Seriously, I almost passed out from laughter! 😆
Everytime I watch the movie by myself I watch that scene like 10 times 😂 too great!
You couldn't breath?.......By the sound of it, Neither could Loki ! That pathetic little wheeze while embedded in the floor was absolute butter on toast.
@@MatthewPettyST1300 love your analogy, "butter on toast".
Spot on!
My favorite bit in a movie full of them.
Yet Loki still does...breathe after all that. It's not like he's an Asguardian/god-type being prone to immortality.
The outtakes are hilarious. When Hiddleston filmed Loki wheezing after getting thrashed around by the Hulk, he kept breaking into laughter ‘cause it was so funny..
I've always wondered how much of that whimper was pain, and how much was sheer, gibbering terror.
As amazing as the movie is the strongest moment for me: "There are always men like you."
A great image in any context, coming from a German man of that age, unforgettable.
The old man who stood up to Loki and said there are always men like you was created as someone who lived through WW2 Nazi Germany.
He had serious guts! He would rather die on his feet than live bowing to a tyrant.
Easily one of my favorite lines in the movie. Super inspiring and it always gives me a chill!
I'm sure you mean die on his feet rather than live on his knees
pretty sure the old man was jewish and he was old enough to have been alive during WW II
I remember him fondly from an episode of "Barney Miller," he played Mr. Kopekne, who was worried about turning into a wolf at the full moon.
How fitting that Cap came in as another symbol of that time. 👍
@@smiddlehurst1 Started with Endgame, that kind of sounds like an oxymoron to me. 😆
While those are some good points, I find it mad that you wrote off an entire genre based on one film. There's loads of bad horror films, but that doesn't mean there's no value in the genre. But I guess this film changed your mind :)
That’s how good comics work. The new reader hoops in, gets invested and slowly learns the ins and outs of the universe.😏
Captain's shield is made of Vibranium, mentioned in the first movie rather quickly before Peggie plugs rounds into it
_important quality to keep in mind_ : it is able to absorb or disperse both vibrational and kinetic energy - it enables Cap to do some crazy things like not feel much impact going into the shield - Thor's hammer hitting it basically dispersed all the energy into the surrounding trees while Cap's arm was A-OK
It's also an alien metal that fell down to Earth, similar to how Thor's hammer is made of another alien metal called uru metal.
a bit weird how that principle stopped working against a Chitori grenade in the third act though
@@Angrenost02 the energy blast is not dispersed. A bit zbsorbed hence czp being thrown out not too far.

So since you asked about it, both Loki and the Avengers when they're fighting are being influenced by the scepter. That's why they have the upside-down pan to the scepter during the fight with it making that ominous tone - it's driving them to conflict.
One of the few comments I've seen mentioning that! Most folks are like "why are the fighting!?"
I like Cap's response: "There's only one God, and he doesn't dress like that."
Despite being an atheist, Whedon gives his religious characters some great lines.
Everything is canon when you have a multiverse!
@@WDanielFichtel SHIELD is an interesting discussion because they directly reference several of the films even as late as season 5.
Tony is constructing HIS building with HIS name on the side of it.
VKunia: “Look at Tony helping other people. He’s so selfless. I love him.” 🤣
The shield is vibranium. It can deflect monstrously huge amounts of kinetic energy. Because the energy had nowhere to go it deflected outwards flattening trees around them. It's to show A. That the shield can deflect huge amounts of kinetic energy and B. How powerful Thors casual hammer swing is.
Don't forget C. That they work better together than against
It’s not a sin as a DC fan to enjoy these movies, if anything it’s awesome, there’s so many more movies to check out :)
There’s a reason Marvel is ahead of DC with films, at least. Kevin Feige makes sure a lot of things are quality. DC has good animated ones. Each universe has strengths in different areas.
@Rick Kivari Sony??? HA
whoever is in charge of the DC animated movies needs to be put in charge of the live action ones. the difference in quality of storytelling is staggering.
@Rick Kivari Bombing? They literally have had success on everything since Endgame. What are you smoking?
@@REYTRACER Sony would ruin it. What is wrong with this guy?
Best fanservice in the whole movie is Harry Dean Stanton's character asking Banner if he's an alien.
@Thor Sten oh don't worry, I caught it, absolutely died laughing!
THAT is what happens when an Unstoppable Force meets an Immovable Object :D
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Now that you mention it, how strong is Adamantium in comparison to Vibranium?
@@roguescorner9042 Well, let me put it this way, to a very angry Hulk adamantium is diamond while vibranium is Play-Doh.
So many good moments in this movie. The "Puny God" moment with Hulk and Loki at the top of that list. 😂

He's being affected by the sceptre too.

Joss Whedon's dialogue is something to behold. So simple and yet so satisfying sometimes. This was one of the lines that came out of nowhere and really endeared me to the film. Every interaction serves the greater story and often just the mechanical concerns of the narrative. And nearly every line does it with some style.
One thing that always annoys me in movies: when a movie cocks a Glock. Glocks don't have external hammers to cock. 4:31
I heard really faint meowing several times and thought a cat had gotten into my house. I was pausing the post and walking around looking for it. ;-)
They were definitely not faint!
Spoilers: She adores this movie!
She'll LOVE the Guardians
Seeing all these comic characters come together on the big screen was unheard of. But now that we're spoiled to it, it's an old fashioned notion.
Dr Selvig is played by Stellan Skarsgård, who also is Alexander Skarsgårds dad, and they are Swedish so his accent is a Swedish one (like mine would be if you heard me saying this lol).
Although Selvig is a Norwegian name so I think his character is supposed to be Norwegian.
... I'm confused. Hasn't she seen Thor yet? Selvig played a big part in that one.
@@Caseytify Yes she has but she might have just noticed his accent now or something idk
Can I just say I love the sound effect of Thor hitting hulk with the hammer 10/10
The guy who asked Banner if he was an alien was in the movie Aliens
He was in the first one, Alien.
8th grade was so hyped when this came out, I remember it kickstarting fan culture for a lot of us. Heck mason was Captain America, Juan was Hulk, Matthew was Thor, I was hawkeye ugh the whole thing really sparked everyones love for the mcu
I love it when the plan comes together.
"Buckle up Dorothy, cause Kansas is going bye-bye"
This might feel like a culmination of movies but in reality, it's just the beginning.
Were those your cats in the background, or were were mine complaining?? (LOL) Great reaction, don't be afraid to post longer reactions, we love this!
After tons of searching through the comments finally I found someone who noticed the cat.
Fun facts:
1. The waitress is played by Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us
Y'know, opinions like
--I think he's good
--I think he's bad
--I think he's happy
--I think he's sad
--i think he's a safely-guarded prisoner
--I think he's dead
You should start watching the show Agents of Shield. It is a Nice addition to the MCU.i think you will like it:)
At 12:48, Hulk is like "Where you go'in? Nope!".😂
Looking forward to see your reaction on this this movie Vicky!!! It is one of those watershed moments in the MCU!!!
Tahiti is a magical place.
Specifically, it spends some time lulling you into a false sense of security and establishing characters, and then BAM!
Let me rephrase that:
It takes a couple of episodes for the usual set-up and then turns into a mindblowingly awesome show with some of the best Marvel characters and storylines PERIOD
My favorite Marvel property up to date, and that includes the movies (which I still love)!
Not really canon though.
@@masterofthechimichangas1306 Lots of argument about that. 😉
If you watch it in a specific order it wouldn't spoil you at all. There are very specific transition points where you can watch the movies.
I do otherwise second this if it's something that sparks interest, though you shouldn't start until after Iron Man 3. I'd also suggest watching the short Item 47 prior.
There's got to be some kind of list that suggests which movies should have been watched before which episodes, right?
I do third this ;-)
"I grew up as a DC fangirl, so watching Marvel is a sin or something." (paraphrased)
I'm really glad that nobody told me I had to pick one or the other, because I've loved both ever since I was a little little kid.
That moment when Hulk is looking at Natasha over his shoulder, you can see Banners eyes filled with sorrow, that last second before Hulk takes completely control.
It's pretty obvious you've seen these before! :p No worries though.
Exactly. I figure that out when she let that line slip from Infinity War.
Just wondering if you were going to do the marvel netflix shows as those are actually canon and it introduces some characters you need to know.
It's so obvious that she knows more than she say, you can't guess that many things (like the Assemble thing or that the tower is gonna be their base)
FIRST!
This one still holds up for me.
I have very mixed feelings about Whedon's work usually, but The Avengers only has a few minor things I don't like when I look back at it.
I still remember it as the best movie theater experience I ever had. Also the only midnight premiere I ever attended.
There's two parts in this movie that always bring me back to that night, now almost ten years ago (omg what)
1) when Bruce says 'that's my secret Captain, I'm always angry' and transforms into Hulk to stop tge alien whald monster
2) when Hulk and Thor fight together on another whale monster.
I remember exactly what it felt like to watch those moments ❤
Its a cool detail, that Tony always upgrades his suit with what he learned from the previous movie. For example, in this he absorbs Thors thunder, because of the modifications Tony made after fighting Whiplash in Iron Man 2
Man, Coulson was such a great character, I wonder if he somehow survived that🤔😉
The scene with Hulk whipping Loki about there is a video of the scene and it states, "This is what happens when you back talk to mom."
You pointed out that panning shot. That one shot took $10 million to shoot and get right. It was a gutsy move by Feige with no guarantee of success. Yet it became the most popular scene in the entire film.
10:02 Vicky : "What is that sheild made of?!"
Howard Stark, 1943.
Vicky, you saw this movie. Remember?!
"he's adopted" best line of a great movie.
Another great reaction!!
You're journey through the MCU is about to get even better!!
I loved your facial expressions when Tony Stark says "Stark Tower is about to become a beacon of self sustaining clean energy" and your laugh at Hulk slamming Loki around!!
Another great thing about your reactions is the way you go about them, they're clean and funny and hilarious without being "dirty" or "obscene", which is rare these days and that's why you're my family's favorite reactor to watch.
Keep up the great work as always and many blessings to you and yours.
My brother and I favorite scenes are the Hulk hitting Thor and the Hulk beating up Loki. Also saying puny god and Loki moaning.
