What a great video!! Thanks for the time and effort and MONEY that it took to produce a video of this quality. You saved a lot of us “20 gauger’s” a lot of time and money. Thanks again!!
Thanks for a thorough, systematic test. One-stop shopping for education on how different loads pattern, how individual guns vary, choke influences, and knockdown power.
Had a flash back when you said the little gun hit your cheek !! Shot a slug from my wife’s youth model and almost broke my nose, had me tearing up like a baby🙏🔫🇺🇸
Great job! Thank you very much for all the great info. One suggestion, you could have saved 3 rounds of ammo by tucking the steel behind the paper target when doing the pattern testing. That TSS aint cheap!
Thanks a lot for comparing the TSS to the long beard I just bought my wife the 20 gauge Stoeger M 3020 and I bought a long beard choke for it haven’t shot it or the factory choke yet so this helped me out big time thank you.
I love my 3020, light and plenty of power. I shoot a Tight Was choke and Federal 3RD Degree loads 5-6-7 shot. Also use a Tru Glow Gobble Stop Dot scope.
very detailed video. i reload my own tss. for 20 gauge and #9 is all i use. the stoger factory choke is really a great choke for the tss. just use it. save some money. all you will get with any other choke is tighter pattern, if your going past 40 yards with the stoger like out to 60 try the indian creek 555. but at 20 itsa slug hole. the only choke i use on public land for high pressured birds. the best choke for my testing was the jebs headhunter 560. pretty much covers close and long range hang ups. i highly recommend the jebs 560 or 565. my choice is 560. thanks
Great video! I’ve only used long beard shells in my wife’s 20ga while patterning it for her, and it shoots the same. To the left. Pull out my shotgun and shoot other loads then the long beard, and they are dead on.
This was a great vlog. I haven't seen many if any that compared shot with choke, at two different yardages. just So you all know... Stoger is owned by Beretta...who also also owns Beretta USA (obviously), Benelli, Franchi, SAKO, Tikka, Uberti, and the Burris Optics company. Stogers' Bolt (Inertia Drive; I Drive) is the same that Benelli uses. My Daughter has the Stoger 3020 What I truly enjoyed; knowing you will be and have been hunting with your daughter. 2021 my daughters first full hunting season, archery, and firearms. Dads, Hunt with your daughters NOT for them... You want to see them grow up to be strong women; don't rely on their schools... With a Christ centered family...God will help fathers guided their daughters....it is God who will make our Daughter's strong...Hunting teaches them independents and how to survive. they will only learn this from Hunting families.. But, dad plays the pivotal roll...
Great shooting. Only thing I do differently is that I spray the inside of the barrel with Carburetor cleaner and run a bore snake through the barrel. It will make a difference with a clean barrel. Have a good one and May God bless
That was interesting. I went with a .575 Carlson extended for my long barrel in my over/under. Was going to use LBXR #6, but scored some Federal TAX #7's for a great price. Still need to pattern what choke I'll use with the LBXR 6'S in the short range barrel. Thanks for sharing 👍
Makes me wonder if they loaded 20ga XR at the normal 1150-1200fps muzzle velocity if the pellets would have blown through the steel. The pellets seemed to be right on the edge of going through, even a small increase in initial velocity could have made the difference. That said, I still think 40 yards it would break the neck and skull plate. That steel is harder on lead than turkey neck/skull. Not sure what ammo companies infatuation is with loading #5 lead in 20ga. I think for lead loads, a shell full of #6 lead would 100% of the time pattern better and utilize the limited capacity of a 20ga shell far better. Prior to TSS it would easily have been the go to if it were loaded in it.
Wonder why u didn’t do the Code black .565 with the tss 7 at 40 yrds spread test. If u did & I missed it, let me know at what time it is at on the video
Winchester Longbeard XR is a great round but to compete with the TSS#9, Winchester needs to step up with a tungsten round like Federal, maybe playing around with it they could replace their 5 and 6 shot with 7and 9 shot tungsten but maybe they believe it would be entirely to costly for the shooter. when I was young shooting shotgun 1.75 to 2.25 per box of 25 was costly now box of 10 upwards of 60.00 I simply refuse to pay that but during Turkey season I do shoot Heavy shot blend and/or longbeard XR for way I hunt 5yd to 25 yd fields loads are really good enough with the right chokes. anyway that's what I proven to myself in last half century of turkey hunting, don't get me wrong I to get sucked into all the great patterns with chokes and great ammo.
I shoot the Longbeard 3" #5's. They are wicked on paper and turkeys. Only thing I ever shot that was better was Winchester Extended Range that was a tungsten load . Shame it was discontinued!!!
I reckon it's good to know what's going on at 20yds but I know you know at 20yds a low brass 7.5 thru a tight full choke will grind a gobblers head right off I just hate a to
Thank you for doing this! I know this was a costly test considering! Man gotta tell you, I was worried the sled was going to fall off your bench towards the end of the video! I have a 12g sx3 and its my favorite shotgun I have ever owned! Just curious, have you ever tried hevi shot magnum blend out of either if your 20 gauges?
I switched to a 20 gauge a few years ago and have killed a pile of birds with it...with longbeard xrs and an Indian creek choke it's a 50 yard gun all day.
The $150.00 worth of ammo was them dang tss shells.i recently went to my local ammo store looking for some "turkey" loads.i asked the guy what he had.he said i got these federal tss rounds.he said they are 5 to a box.i said how much he said $54.99😂😂.im not joking.i said hell nooo!!!!! What in the hell ever happened to regular long brass #4's & 6's.they took many & many of game my whole life.now days they put fancy logos & hype things up & people actully buy that stuff.its sad man.its real sad.america is going down hill in a hurry.i miss tbe good ol days.
@@ninjagodzilla6402 amen brother I paid $49.99 for a box of 5 tss loads a few weeks back don’t get me wrong they a fine shell but damn nation that’s expensive & I really luv me sum ole school lead loads (12 or 20) but impossible to find here in west Tn this year...happy hunt’n....
@@jayplay3412 you as well my friend.im in arkansas & cant find any ammo hardly.this crap has to stop!! Check your barrel. the last time I had an issue like that, the barrel had some kind of burrs in it up where the the choke seats. I guess it was catching the wad on the way out. You can knock most of them out with a barrel hone/brush. Also, check the breach end of the choke tube for any deformations.
Lead will kill that turkey out to 50 yards. You're shooting through a rubber head with neck bone and skull. Anything past 50 I don't recommend Lead shot if you're that type of guy who takes long range turkey shots.
I’m a few years late on this video but it was the most informative one that I have found on a 20 gauge choke and load test. Thanks
What a great video!!

Great video!! Excellent job on testing!! I love the TSS #9 out of my 20ga!
Briley makes the best choke tubes in the industry hands down! That’s a fact!
Except turkey tubes

Great video... I learned alot about tss... very impressive...
Very good testing thanks for taking the time I know this was not cheap!
TSS is not cheap but it has proven to me that it is a game changer. Thanks for the reply!

Stoger is a lesser beneli
Tristar is a lesser beretta
Tss changes everything! Proper choke and a 410 will do the job on anything and everything upland game!

How?? Can you explain! I’m interested in this theory
It’s a good idea to check your mag cap nut to make sure your barrel isn’t working loose before you adjust your zero. Just speaking from experience.
Very informative review! I just bought the sxp in 20 gauge. Can’t wait to use! You get a sub from me. Good job!
I liked the 20 gauge Winchester using the Carlson long beard choke with federal tss#9 at 20 yards.
Great video!
If your daughter shot at 40 yards you know the best one to pick was the long beard XR cuz it's way more forgiving with that larger consistent pattern
I miced the factory x-full choke @ .569. And I've heard quite a few folks say that factory choke did lights out.
Thanks for the info on the Choke.
Fantastic video.
I just purchased the Stoeger 3020 x-Full turkey choke ( item 33673) for my Franchi Affinity ( std Benelli mobil system). Mine measure .568" exit dia.
Awesome video bro.
much better with the shoot and see .

The Carlson's LB XR is consistently shooting left in the 3020.
I was try to figure it out. I wasn't him it was just the choke. Good observation.
Subscribing just because of the last name! Where are you from? It’s rare to see Sloan’s around my area. Good luck this upcoming season!
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to inform.
2 3/4 target load will kill everything at 20 yards
Extra full is .670 12 gauge and .570 in twenty gauge.
Appreciate u doing this test....we know ammo is costly
Wonder why u didn’t do the Code black .565 with the tss 7 at 40 yrds spread test. If u did & I missed it, let me know at what time it is at on the video

I would love to see a penetration test out to 50 or even 60 on that TSS 9 ! lol jUST CURIOUS Thanks
20 guage ain’t what you want at 60 yds
I'd like to see when that shot stops penetrating that metal.

What was the barrel length of the stoeger,
Very good.
Just curious did ad the pistol grip or did come like that

3"
I didn't know#9 shot existed.can #9 be bought in 12 gauge?
yep
😂 of course man ! Tell me ur joking
Nope not joking, I've only used#6.
Factory 3020 Turkey is supposed to be.560
needed to bring the target closer to the camera so we could see your pattern !
Go back to sleep
don't now about the 20 ga. yet got 2 to shoot. but killed a gobble last year with 12 ga. tss #9 at 53 yards thats what the range finder said...
I switched to a 20 gauge a few years ago and have killed a pile of birds with it...with longbeard xrs and an Indian creek choke it's a 50 yard gun all day.
It’s easier to find 20g TSS than it is longbeard XR’s or any lead load for that matter in my neck of the woods here in west Tn....good hunt’n

What is the length of pull and barrel length of that stoger compact
26” and length of pull is 13 1/8”
Did you have to aim high with the 3020? I can’t get mine to pattern at all
Are you using the factory choke with yours?
@@ianmetcalf9983 no carlsons xr choke I don’t have the factory choke basspro sucks it’s a long story as to why I don’t have it

MY APOLOGY I SEE LATER YOU USE THE BIRCHWOODS.
Why you flinching with a 20 guage In a gun caddie
😂
Lead will kill that turkey out to 50 yards. You're shooting through a rubber head with neck bone and skull. Anything past 50 I don't recommend Lead shot if you're that type of guy who takes long range turkey shots.
What ounce are you shooting here with the TSS #9?
1 1/2 ounce
We can’t see your targets, you’re holding them to far from the camera.
You know
he shows you a target he shot from so far away you cant see it. says i hope you can see it and really doesn't care as he goes right on talking. duh.
TSS is definitely not worth the $10 per shell pricetag.
SHOULD HAVE USED BIRCHWOOD CASEY TARGETS. GET MOTE SUBSCRIBERS!! 20 YDS PROVES NOTHING!!!
