THE BEST SIX cylinder muscle car on Earth , and Australian made !!!
100%
Bloody great motor
JZ make more
@@alastairdow-taylor4103 also cost a metric truck load more to get the motor let alone make the same power as what a barra can easily, and also I think you'd find there are a few billet barras making upwards of 3k hp
@@alastairdow-taylor4103 no i doesn’t lol barra has higher displacement and power
@@joshuaprice34 there's only one higher power barra than this and that's dions dodge
the chick at the end owns it. video was at horsepower hero's at summernats .it won most powerful 6cyl steet car and most powerful street car overall.
Didn't it win outright at that event?
@@scootbmx01 , I think the car that won was the blue commodore from Castle Hill exhaust and performance.
@@MJTAUTOMOTIVE same event?
The castle Hill drag car was for demonstration, so yes RIPSS won overall.
@@dyno-miteperformance3403 good to see ya in the comments 👍 mate at work has a BA Ute with some work done by you and it friggin rips!
Not a ford fan but, i do respect the barra. Cheap, reliable, taxi approved, easy power.
Gota love the plates btw "RIP SS" lol
Also heavy as all hell and a really tall motor, personally I'd prefer 2J or an RB28 with usable power, this is just for numbers
@@corzahazard444 tall, yes, heavy, not as heavy as you think. There is a Nissan GTR converted to Barra here in Oz, and the wonser says the Barra is 5kg heavier than the rb +front diff assembly.
5kg heavier for 1000 extra wheel hp on the factory cast block and head. You have to love the Barra. I own 3, one a 800hp daily
RBs fall apart aound the head studs at 1000hp. 2jz block deck warps at 1800hp. The Barra is next level.
The Barra is even more incredible when you look at its evolution from 1960 in the first XK series Falcon in its diminutive 144 cubic inch inline six the same engine you had in US falcons/rancheros/ econoline vans! It’s evolution direct in Australian Ford Falcon engine capacities over the years in 144,170,188,200,221,250 ci in the first sixes then to cast iron then aluminium crossflow head designs then to single overhead cam and finally to the best of all the LS beating Barra engine, period!
The Barra is 244 cu in
@@jimclarke1108 Some might say its 3984cc
Yeah, the evolution is incredible, still runs some internal parts which are the same as the old 250. They are also renowned for lasting for hundreds of thousands of K's without any major problems, Taxi drivers loved the Barra.
Yes, anybody who has owned an XA ,XB falcon with an auto 250 cube would be stunned that its come to this point. I loved my old XB ute but "performance" was a word simply not included in the design brief.
As a Holden fan I found this rather interesting to learn.
The later barras I don't even look at in my clubby knowing they love to eat ls' for breakfast 🥺🥺
I found it rather sad the later models didn't sky rocket in value like Holden did.
To my knowledge the Barra is the only straight 6 engine that ever got the full respect from Mopar, Chev and Ford V8 die hards in Australia and New Zealand. An engine every bit at home in a race car all the way through to a truck.Legendary reliability, incredibly durable power outputs with small modifications, super smooth operation and the SOUND ! What a terrible shame for the hotroder that this engine is no longer produced. Car historians will look back and marvel at one of the greatest mechanical achievement ever to come out of Australia .
G'day Ian, it's a shame America hasn't grabbed a Barra Ford Mustang GT brand for sale that would make millions as every rev head in the US would buy one, wishing you and the family all the best for Christmas and may all your dreams come true for the New year, cheers, Neil 🤠.
We have these engines in Sydney wreckers for a few hundred dollars, literally thousands of them, bottom ends are bullet proof standard, that's why we pump big turbo boost into them, basically replace piston/rods, up the fuel and take flight
Crazy thing is SHE (blak hair chick @2:23) owns it and races it down the drag strip
I love how simple they are, specially with most modern cars you open the hood and it’s so clustered like supras an skylines an such where as the Barra it’s just there it is, turbo/ manifold cam cover intake done 👌
A Bathurst 1000 in October followed by a trip to Summernats in January would be a must should you ever make it down here.
Summernats will blow your mind. It’s horsepower heaven, the noise of cars cruising is something else. Throw in the Top 60 which has the finest builds in the country along with the burnout sessions - it’s a must for any revheads.
To the Americans watching, The Horsepower numbers on this Dyno are closest to the real numbers. That same car on a American Dyno
(most are Dyno Jet) would probably read about 2500 wheel hp.
It's common to retrofit a Barra to several models of Mustangs. You could pit a fairly stock Barra in the same model Mustang to something fitted with a supercharged Coyote, and the Barra would smoke it. Right down to the last 2016 Falcon XR6, police forces around Australia were using them as pursuit cars. The mechanical modifications consisted of some suspension work, a different management chip in the ECM, and a few minor changes on top of that. Even 1000 horsepower is a relatively simple upgrade. There are seasoned experts that have pitted the Barra against the Toyota 2 JZ (the 3 litre inline 6 cylinder that powers the Supra) and the Nissan RB26 DETT (the engine that has powered the wildest Skylines) and it hasn't just beaten them, but shown to be more reliable under extreme conditions.
The sound is amazing. It's a destroke 3.7L (about 225ci) which lets it rev to over 10,000rpm
I love seeing Americans react to Aussie cars 💪
I have 2 Barra’s the N/A 195kw and the Turbo 325kw.
Both amazing and powerful in stock form especially the turbo one, that thing is on another level.
325kw isn’t stock. That’s a tuned Barra at least.
@@ViciiousGamerZ I own 3 Barras, one is 800hp. The FG F6 is 310kw stock, and could easily be 325kw on cold day without even tuning it. That is only a 5% variation from stock.
The FGX Sprint is factory rated as 325kw
@@nordic5490 you get those are fly wheel numbers. Most f6 310s are around 410rwhp stock 303kw. A cold day on stock boost 11 (psi) will never increase power by up to 40hp without e85 or tune. I’ve owned and crashed 2 (whoops).
325kw FG-X Sprint6 2016 Stock, unwrapped and drove one with less than 10kms on clock before I left Ford NZ.
370kw/650Nm on Overboost, good times.
For the Aussie’s that’s 1640kw at the rears! Amazing power!
Holy cow
@@devonlord99 hell, I’ll take my 260kw Datto and go sit back down in the corner!
I still live in hp and I'm Ozzie 🤣

If youse don't already know to convert kw to hp it's kw x 1.34 or if u wanna go the other way it's hp x

@@5lcalais1 agreed I live in both hp/kw worlds too, when you got 260kw (350hp) at the wheels in your car and think that’s amazing - thinking about 1640kw atw is just so EPIC!
@@beeegeeezzz it'd be both fun and terrifying with 1640kw 🤣
400bhp n approximately 650nms in my turbo vn is gonna be sketchy enough 🤣
Ian your a great person, keep up the good work, love your passion for the Aussie culture. with the experience I have driving falcons with barras, they are fun and there is no doubt you will enjoy driving one.
Good work Australia for not holding back and producing serious Ford power!
You have always made excellent performance engines.
if i had a hundred grand to put into a barra build it would look alot like this, congrats to the engine builder and the owner for such a clean looking sleeper
I’ve got the same model in purple, it’s no where near as powerful but when you start it you just smile, honestly there’s nothing like it.
Holden fan myself but dam that’s impressive 😲🇦🇺
that barra has been destroked from 4.0l to 3.8l absolute weapon
3.7l
Whats so amazing to me is how neat it all is under there. If you have a V8 making that kind of power you have all sorts of crap sticking out of the bonnet
Depends on the engine combination really, there's guys with turbo ls cars making spastic hp running those plazmaman intakes which barely sit higher than stock..
The best thing about turbo Barras is that they can make huge horsepower and still be a daily driver and I’m pretty sure that’s the wife’s car. With that dyno which is a hub dyno they give you the most accurate numbers. Have a look at adamlz he has put a Barra in his GT350 he has taken people for a drive in it that haven’t heard about barras in America and they can’t believe how good they are.
Greatest 6 ever built.
Benny's white barra cresta at start of video he takes that to the US for drag week
Very impressive, but equally so is this engine's long life. In AUS standard 4.1litre, auto Falcon in taxi service, with multiple (sometimes uncaring) drivers, it was usual to get 1M km (620K miles) around town without opening the engine for more than plugs and filters etc. Meanwhile, one transmission and two rear end changeouts were common. A straight six is inherently balanced much better than any other configuration (in-line or Vee twelve are as good), and this is evidenced in smooth, low rpm idle, and wide usable power range. A great motor, with no vices after 4 decades of development. A shame to see it go.
Personally seen a silver xf Fairmont ghia with 850k on the clock
I had an 98EL that almost ticked over the 500k mark and still ran like a dream. That was till i crashed her into a perma-pine post upright that i couldn't see on the side of the road at night... My BF Fairlane has 329k on the clock still going strong. I swear by the 4.0L's as a remarkably reliable engine when looked after. Owned many over the years and just love them.
I see the Ford Holden rivalry lives on. The number plate RIP SS (SS Holden)
I got goosebumps listening to that engine and knowing it's Aussie, even better 😊
Merry Christmas Ian .
All the best to you and your family .
Have a safe new year mate .
The video that pops up ''VK COMMODORE AT REVHEADS'' is filmed at the town I lived in for 10 years hahaha.
Hi Ian, I have to let you know something, I love your channel and your family, so natural and your wife Danny seems so sweet, but here it comes, I am not a car person! but love watching anyway. Love your passion
💕love your channel Ian ! 8.20 am Wednesday east coast of Australia! HAPPY Christmas and New Year to u and your Family !💙💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Ian, currently the ashes cricket test match has begun again our old foes England. An iconic Aussie start of summer event.
Most powerful Barra engine ( 325T ) in a production Ford Falcon produced ...
Power: 325 kW (436 hp) @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 576 N⋅m (425 lb⋅ft) @ 2750 rpm
Using Ford's over-boost feature, when the correct conditions are met it will increase engine output to 370 kW and 650 Nm.
Bang-on, I drove/pre-delivery the 325T Sprint and the 351GT-F in 2016, both epic in their own right. My brother also runs a 3.66L Barra in his S15 Nissan with G-force dogbox and Winters quick-change diff solely for the purpose of vaporizing tyres in our national D1NZ drift championship.
You don't need to strap down on a hub dyno like this, it's bolted to the hub, if the bolts break the rear of the car will just hit the floor and won't go anywhere, roller style dyno's are a lot more dangerous
The number plate is a double entendre like yeah it Ripss but also R.I.P ss commodore.
#Barratheworld
60 year old father of four, owned lots of ford wagons. Owned a couple of Holden Wagons too ( HR and HT). 2nd hand fords where always a little bit cheaper. Hence Iv'e owned an XD(got stolen), XE, XF (my favourite),EB and BA Ford Wagons. All in line sixes. None have let me down on our annual trip from Newcastle to Adelaide and back ( to visit the out laws). But the 2004 factory six (184 kilowatt ) blue me away.
SS is from the SS Commodore which was the direct competitor to the XR6T.
Barrrrrraa power bringing people together
I was traveling and staying in a house my friend was house sitting when the last Holden 304 block was made. I will always remember that moment. I expect the Ford six fans have a similar sadness about their champion. I will also always remember the night I managed to beat a brad new F6 Typhoon down the 1/8th mile and also won the rematch. Lucky for me I got the win before people figured out how to get 2000hp from them :)
The last plastic fantastic!!
YESS THANKYOU only been asking you for 3 months to react to it haha. Love ya channel bro
You would think the rear tires would just fly apart. RIPSS? A knock on V8's. Aussies are as crazy as Americans when it comes to cars and horsepower.
And the company that make the best billet 2jz blocks just started making billet barra blocks... Were going to see alot more boost going into them soon! Its the same company the fast American 2jz guys get their blocks from.
Ian, you should check out the southern 80 ski race. Biggest in the world with boats and skiers from across the globe. Best weekend in Australia
And for ages almost all the taxis in Australia were Barra engined Falcons .
However turbos not needed but running on LPG to save money with still plenty of power compared to the lesser powered taxis today.
The best part is the LPG motors share the same stronger conrods, so make a great base for a turbo build.
Was a good day at Summernats when that came into the dynohouse and run those numbers
Yep just amazing Ian what they can get out of an engine like that eh?? Happy Christmas and New Year to you and yours😎
Love you show keep it coming Mate be careful Flinty isn’t the nicest of guys he will make you pull the vid as it’s his I’ve seen him do it to a heap of ppl he’s a bit of a FW 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 Barra power 🤘🤘
There is some Monster Barra powered vehicles out there- my F6 Tornado made a shade under 1200rwkw through a Powerglide. Even kept the leaf sprung arse in it, where as one of my mates built a 5 link for his (his was making 1500rwkw)
Have you done anything with the rear suspension? Just wondering coz I got an fgx turbo ute and thinking of going a bit more power out of the barra.
@@darbz1017 I never did, i just added lowered+ stiffer rear leaves in with new shocks, bushes & tramp rods i had left over from my XD.
@@maxrockatanksyOG much appreciated.
Strongest block for the money.
And thats why we call them LS killers…. And the LS v Barra thing in Aus. You need to turbo/supercharge an LS to keep up with a lightly boosted Barra
A well known tuner here locally says the stock engine is good for about 320kw. That is the 'normal' BA BF FG turbo engines. There was a few tricker one from Ford but they do break.
And the early ones just ate transmissions, manual and autos.
Got my myself a BA mr2 Barra turbo she’s only pushing 450kw but I love my rig.
Love the xr6 tubos.
I have q bf wagon and a bf falcon sedan. (Slightly modified). Both have a n/a barra. But one runs on lpg not fuel
Got my barra, and its going through a few changes atm. I love it.
If you want to see what the Barras predecessor can do look up "jrfpv" it will be a blue falcon not quite as impressive but another wild 6 cylinder
That was a weapon, the bloke was selling his spare motor for 10k minus hot side at the beginning of this year

I read that somebody is developing billet barra blocks and are available soon. Henry ford hated 6 cyl engines but I bet he would’ve liked a typhoon work Ute
Woo-hoo love the Barra's. Thank you for this video Ian
Good to see a 6 take out the overall street class, car was also 1st into the 7s in full street trim and irs.

Saw that live. Btw was like a 40 degree day too. Soo hot in that shed.
Barras are cheap in aus you can get 750hp for about 4K on one of these
"It's stock officer" yo where these mk4 supras now lmao 🤣🤣🤣💀💀
Im a Holden man! But, that’s the 🦆 ducks guts! You wanna ute, you want a Barra
"Better have it strapped down"?????? Not sure how that's going to work considering it's on a hub dyno!!!
I just bought a silver top Barra for $130 turns over with full engine wiring and ecu
There's a company now making barra billet blocks
AdamLZ has a built barra motor from Australia he got a shop in Australia to build it and ship it to him in the US
Tell AdamLZ to pull his finger out and lay down some mad skids.
if you manage to get down here ill treat you to a AFL game at Adelaide oval, and ill let you drive my 5.4 Boss powered BA Falcon Wagon to the stadium, i have a few mates with some really quick turbo barra's aswell might be able to work something out
I had a BF Typhoon with 700rwkw. Was absolutely insane.
I remember seeing "TRYHRD" at summer nats years ago pull 2400 RW-HP
/ sometime before the original owner died from a heart attack and his wife sold the VX commodore for around 200K
I was waiting for the car to Actually Lift . CARAMBA !
Flinty is a guy I know. He has a mean blown big block ford powered XC Falcon burn out ute.
2200 AUHP is around 3600 USHP

And it is licence plated, street legal! Would never get out of first gear, 😂

This is a street car, with cooling, and still runs IRS I beleive.
Also, it's at least 1750kgs, street driven, AND has a 7.76@187 pass to its name !!
LOL, thank you for your short one.
Lumpy cams were quite common before turbos, miss 'em
It was just clearing it's throat.
I was there on the day was cool in person
Car also went something like 7.80s 👌
Also anyone notice the belt missing? 🤣 They removed it to gain a little bit extra power lol probably gained 30hp just from that, if u take that into account and the fact you'd lose another roughly 45hp with the wheels on, your looking at 2133hp at the wheels 👍
Still very impressive, still has an iron block n alloy head ,it's a billet 3.7L crank from memory, revs to 10k rpm too 👌
There's a pro mod mustang too with like 3500hp 👌

This got 2202 HP at the wheels. A better vid shows that more clearly.
So even your estimate is way under.
@@johnd8892 correction, 2202hp at the hubs.
u lose power when u put the wheels back on lol
It's roughly 45hp lose with the wheels on (a hub dyno will read on average 45/50hp higher than what you'd make at the tyre) plus you'd lose roughly 30hp putting the fan belt back on so estimate is pretty close to what it actually makes to the tyre (what u actually put to the ground).
Motive yt channel did a video explaining how all the different dynos work and the loses etc. Worth a watch 👍
Ian, the plates say r.i.p. ss referring to the Holden Commodore ssv8, i Hate fords but the barra is special, only good thing Ford made except from the GTHO Phase 3.
