Spoiler Alert, But Read On If You Don't Mind.
It's because the Aerith in FF7R is different from the one in the original, and to that extent, from this Aerith here in Crisis Core. The Aerith in FF7R knows what happens in the original timeline. This was hinted throughout the entire game, and definitely at the end, before facing Sephiroth, because she explicitly hinted that she worked her hardest to get the party together, for she knew the true enemy, and that only this party could face against him, being Sephiroth.
So during that scene in front of her house, she most probably already knew of Cloud's situation, how his mind and memories are all corrupted and stuff, and mixed in with Zack, so whatever Cloud's feelings for Aerith was, it most probably wasn't his genuine feelings.
@@akerouge3519 Just one problem with that. Aerith died long before Cloud's memonic personality issue came to light. The gang knew cloud had memory issues, but they didn't know that Cloud's persona was mixed up with someone else yet.
What I love most about this sequence is how Zack doesn't try to lie or hide who he is to Aerith, he tells her up front that he's a soldier. Considering the fact that he liked her, it showed true character that he's up front with who he is and that clearly defines Zack's character. Someone who's confident and honest but also empathetic and open minded.

One of the things I loved about this game was Zack's character. Usually the heros are some form of brooding edge lord, but Zack was mad Chad energy lol. He was "I'm sexy and I know it" throughout the entire game.

I have been replaying conversations between Zack and Aerith a lot lately as well....it's comforting listening to them talk, seeing perhaps, the 2 of the most sincere people in the world enjoying each other's company. No lies, no malicious intent, no devious plans being made. Reality isn't so kind however, how many of us can say that we have encountered a person like Zack/Aerith while going on about in our daily lives? Unlikely though.

Not really; at the beginning she is scared of fights. She even says to Cloud sometimes: "Running away is always an option, right?" - or something along those lines when engaging in combat.
The Price of Freedom in the music makes the scene so much better.
Just came back to this cutscene in this awesome spin-off after so many years to check if it still holds up, needless to say.. my feelings on Zack remain unchanged.

I gotta disagree. Tidus/Yuna is a really well written romance. Even for all games ever. But the energy between each couple is great. T/Y, C/T, Z/A are perfect. I like the idea of Cloud crushing on Aerith a bit, cus how can you not, but his real love is Tifa. I also feel like he may have been influenced by Zack's emotions, potentially, when it comes to her. But it's hard to say.

@@Sinbad7S Very likely with that version of Aerith actually. Zack specifically mentioned that he knew somewhere they could crash, but the mom lives there too. crisis core is canon in this timeline. Not to mention that Zack wouldn't dawdle by the train long enough for tifa to show up. It's entirely possible that he would draw attention to himself if he was carrying a catatonic cloud through the city, but my guess is that Zack would go with cloud to sector 6 and try to find Aerith in the church. That may draw attention from avalanche, but not the kind we'd want, especially not from avalanche, or any of it's cells. I don't actually believe Zack would join avalanche since he'd have no reason whatsoever to go to sector 7. Cloud wouldn't know where tifa was, as he wouldn't wind up with his memory problems since Zack didn't die there. Zack would certainly try to lay low, but probably fail miserably. Either that, or he'd set cloud up to be whatever he wants for a job. Cloud by the time they get to midgar would actually be up and about walking on his own most likely given that he woke up within minutes tops of Zack going down in crisis core. Now, the destruction of mako 1 would certainly catch his attention, but he wouldn't act on it until the Turks take the plate down. He'd have no way of knowing that the Turks were behind it, and there's a very good chance any of the avalanche members died much earlier given cloud wasn't there to carry the team. Hell, it's entirely possible they died in reactor one when they run into that robot boss. Barret does not carry any lightning materia or spells at that point in the game, and it's default on cloud. Ah, speculation goes way too far sometimes.

It also gave that impression given that Aerith, Jessie, wedge, and Biggs all died in episode 1 originally, and only 1 of them did possibly just to be brought back in the new timeline. That's some Disney style writing if I've ever seen it

I find Aerith more mature when she was with Cloud than when she was with Zach. She seems a lot more naive, girlish and childish in this scene. More innocent, vulnerable, more prone to saying things then regretting them.
The Aerith who was with Cloud is so much more in control. Yes, she does have little "accidents" that make Cloud's heart skip a beat here and there. But emotionally speaking, it felt like she was fully in control. It felt like she knew exactly what was going on, even when Cloud didn't. It felt like, in a sense, though Cloud was her bodyguard, she was the one looking after him emotionally, like some sort of a big sister.
Here, she very much feels like a younger sibling. Someone who looks up to Zach. Someone who needs Zach more than he needs her. She's got more of a fan girl kind of energy. When she was with Cloud, this energy was more of less reversed, and it was Cloud who was insecure, even if he didn't want to show it.
Aerith is a lot younger here than she is in 7 and her time with Zack had a lasting impact on her.

It's even weirder when you realize they both met Aerith in the exact same way. If I'm not mistaken, they both fell from mako 5. And SOLDIER didn't even TRY to find Zack when that happened. Especially considering that sephiroth didn't even notice him missing I think? They would've known where he fell from, considering sephiroth was only a few rooms away and would've heard that.

In the original they had cute dates and all but the way I see it she’s just fond of Cloud especially bc he reminds her of Zack. Zack was very eager. Aerith even wrote love letters to Zack everyday for 5 years but the Turks just kept them all. And on AC Aerith and Zack can be seen together again in the end. A lot changed since the original even the remake is making changes too I love them together so yeah who knows

The resolution scenes all happen anyway...theoretically there's no choice but to just unblock one. The scene with Barret happens in the evening, the one with Tifa during the night and the one with Aerith in the morning, they are all canon.

To put it simply, Crisis Core is a prequel to the events of FF7 that take place about 4-5 years before the main game. Zack fell while cornering a rouge scientist from mako reactor 5 on a bridge I think. Ironically enough, cloud also fell from a bridge in the exact same reactor years later. However, after the events of nibelheim, Zack and cloud vanish and get experimented on for 5 years given they were able to take down the single biggest monster shinra had. Of course they had no idea about Cloud's latent ability yet, as Zack was just a regular soldier. They get experimented on for 4-5 years, try to get to midgar, and Zack died covering for cloud. Ironically enough, the Turks confiscated all the letters to Zack as he was a guinea big when they were sent.
She was so innocent befor she became such a gutter mouth in the remake.
