You absolute legend! I have just been bought a psvr and now wonder where it has been all my life! These set up tips aren’t explained at all initially and make such a huge difference.....well done dude!
One of the things I found was that sometimes one eye was out of focus rather than both. When your setting up the headset on your face, shut one eye and get that image focused, then do the same with the other eye. Then open and close each eye to ensure that both images are focused the same.
Tooting Bowles I think the headset is right eye dominate, as the social screen shows what is being seen only from the right lens. if that make any sensr
I sometimes feel like my eyes are slightly too wide apart for the lenses. It's not a huge deal but at 74mm IPD I feel that when I move the headset so my right eye is fully sharp from the middle of my view, the left one only has a sharp area to the right and the vision at the very center of my left eye is already in the "blurryness of the left lense-edge" territory. If I then move the headset so the left eye gets a sharp vision, the right one will then be on the fringe of being in the "edge-of-the-lense blur" territory. I quite wish they had managed to build some kind of sliders to move the lenses either a tiny bit closer or wider apart. I mean, it's not a huge deal, I set it at the middle and most of the center in my view is sharp enough that when getting into the game, I won't pay much attention to it, but .. anyway. I think a person with an IPD at the middle of the spectrum (63mm) will have the best experience with the headset.
One other tip: I line up my eye line through the lenses so the centre is clear BEFORE I slide the screens towards my face. Only when the centre is clear (with no chromatic aberration around edges - ie. the blue/red fringes) do I then slide the lenses forward. Works every time.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been enjoying my new psvr for a couple of weeks, and had accepted that some blur was unavoidable for me. I had no idea that further calibration was possible. Why Sony doesn't tutorialize these steps is baffling.

I used two 1/2 inch pieces of weather stripping as glasses bumpers. One on each side. Worked perfect and it's a good thing I found out about this now because I wear glasses and just got the headset.
I found turning my headset on 15+ minutes prior to playing reduces the fogging. Every time I used to play in would get so frustrated that it would almost instantly fog, but I found warming it up to near body temperature helps.
Wear your glasses (if you have them) with the headset...I'm near sighted and still had a slight blur with the headset regardless of how it was positioned on my head or how I cleaned them. I have a light prescription for driving glasses because my vision sucks at night. When I used my glasses in the headset, the difference was night and day. It was like switching the headset to HD immediately.

Also remember to extend the visor before putting on or taking off the headset to prevent smudging the lenses (and remind anyone who you let use your headset) And when adjusting the positioning of the headset on your head, do it with the visor extended so you can really center the lenses to your eyes. The clarity of the headset isn't really determined by how clear you see the image on the screen, but how clear the "grain" (or actual pixels of the headset) are. Sometimes I found that even with the headset correctly adjusted, the screen still looks blurry, but thats just a limitation of the technology.
Mine was quite blurry and I had no idea why. I followed all the steps and still no luck. Only to realise I had taken my contacts out and couldn't actually see. It amazing how u need good vision to see something so close to your eyes.
Harry Woodland I had the same problem when I tried using mine without my glasses on. When I realized I could fit the headset on while still wearing them, it was amazing.
Thank you, I just always felt my eyes weren’t straight or even enough to enjoy a clear PSVR experience. It’s good but if i look away from center it blurs. I am beginning to think it’s not me, maybe my OCD?, but it’s not a 100% perfect clear HD image everywhere all at once.
Few tips that work for me. Get a color-changing bulb or lamp for your room and set it to green. The green light helps the tracking lights stand out from the background, people using the aim controller for Farpoint have reported a huge improvement with weapon stability with virtually no weapon shake when using a green light. Check your background thoroughly. I got annoyed with my tracking issues, and realised that behind me I had a window and a mirror, both of which were reflecting the blue light from my headset, in addition to that my PC was in the background and the power light also shines blue, all these reflections and blue lights were confusing the camera. Once I fixed that I had a much better experience.
Yeah farpoint I still have to figure out, sometimes when im looking down the sights the red circle will start sliding to the right even though im not moving lol
wow my friend, i just realise i have a aquarium behind me and that act as a reflector from the back light of my helmet... will cover that with a black cloth from now on! Thanks!!!
Thanks for this great video, just picked up a unit myself and had this problem during my first attempt. Tried it again last night and the experience was much better.
Yoooooooooooo make sure the lenses to the PS camera in clean too I was having issues with my vr tracking the headset and the controller's and tried all the calibration and then I thought let me check the camera and sure enough there was a smudge on it wiped that shit off and vr was working smooth as butter.
Great video thank you. I would never use a microfiber cloth on plastic lenses as microfiber are made out of plastic. Polyester is plastic and plastic will leave very fine grooves in plastic. 100% cotton is safer. Love video very good instruction!!
Great video, man. I got my psvr last month and I cannot stop playing with it. It's fantastic. I'm using your advice in this video because there is blurriness. Silly it doesn't give you the full calibration at the start. Thanks again for this video
Great video ,i thought I'd mention that.. on the back off the headseat is a dial u can twist once the headset is on and this helps with the stability of the the headset on ur head,it will help with blur too, just dont have it too tight .
WOW!! I literally went from headache and extreme eye strain after 5min playing and almost ditching the whole VR thing completely to playing 6hours in one sitting comfortably!!
@@Mrjharedtherosehoneythunderer I attribute 99.9% to the one where you measure the distance between your eyes which for some reason is not included in the initial startup procedure from sony
Put the camera higher up and position it a little downward, I had issues tracking higher up and having it also track the ground when playing games such as job simulator until I made these adjustments, now all they need to do is add 360 camera view for full tracking!
I personally discovered quite quickly that if the headset was even slightly off centre on your face (I.e the lenses are slightly above or below your eyes) that the image would bend and blur really badly so you must make sure that you adjust the height if the headset on your face perfectly every time (a bit of a pain I know)
I accidentally stumbled into this video, but I'm glad "eye" did!! I did know about the eye distances measurement, can't wait to test this! Thanks from the future!
Great video. I was concerned my eye distance was interfering and that I just had to deal with it. Thank you for the tips that Sony had missed telling me for some reason.
I haven't found the inter-pupillary distance makes any difference to eye strain, but it DOES affect the scale of things in VR. For example, if all the NPCs seem child-size, make the pupil distance smaller. If everything seems too big, move the pupils further apart. This was driving me nuts until I realised how to fix it. It seems the default scale of the world is a little too small.
Tip tip for glasses wearers, take out the rubber face mask, dim your lights/close your curtains, and turn on a fan, then your glasses don’t steam up in summer! Also, bonus, you can look down and see where you put your controller/s. Be sure to add plastic ‘lens protectors’ to the headset that you can buy on eBay, they prevent your glasses from touching the vr lenses and scratching them.
I heard that the Sony reps demoing PS VR at PAX were using a standard spectacle lens cleaner to clean the headset lenses as they are also made of glass, unlike the Rift and Vive's which are a kind of plastic. Proceed with caution, though.
This is more of a low tech tip but if you don't have/don't want to pay for a stand but want somewhere to sit your headset while it isn't in use. I drape the microfiber cloth over the lens and sit my headset on the top of an old lampshade. It does the trick and I just roll the cord around the inside of it :)
Thanks for the tips mate I'll try them tomorrow. I have a leather sofa and I've found that if I throw a non reflective sheet or blanket over the side of the sofa that I am not using it helps with the screen shifting to the left.

I know this video is ages old but have a fuckin sub mate. IPD is so important and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why there was no adjustment on the hardware side for PSVR. Fortunately it was okay out of the box but dialing it in perfectly is EXACTLY what I wanted. TYSM.
great advice will try eye tracking tomorrow never knew that watched movie on dvd today was good quality a little blurry but Blu ray far far better much clearer picture and sounded great
I find out that, for me, making one eye lower than the other (moving the psvr slightly lower on one side) make it way better. Just setting the eye adjustment didn't do it. People also have to keep their glasses on, as the psvr will not adjust for your eye sight. Having astignmatism myself, i HAVE to keep my glasses. just make sure to keep your glasses very close to your eyes (bring them all the way to the top of your nose) and then bring back the headset CAREFULLY and slowly back toward them until everything is clear. You can scratch the lenses though so be sure you use glasses elastic (sport type) to keep your glasses hook back tightly. Hope this help.
I'll say this once, it's up to you how you clean it anyway. Sony adamantly stated not to use any type of liquid on your PSVR lenses, only the microfibre cloth.
+SlashingShadow copying and pasting this response that I just typed to someone else who referred to the manual but said their lenses are now nasty because screw retyping stuff on a phone: That's why I used the lens cleaner, even after some time the microfiber cloth alone isn't enough. Friends I've talked with who have used VR for a while as well as several places I looked online pointed to the direction that it should be fine, but it's really up to you.
Nice video. Clear and precise. I use iKlear solution to clean my lenses. It contains no chemicals or alcohol. I clean my iPhone and MacBook with it and have done for years. I'd say it's the safest thing you can use to clean your lenses.
The lens cleaner I used I purchased for my DSLR lens, also looked into it and people seem to interchange eyeglass and DLSR lens cleaner with ease so it doesn't seem to be detrimental to eyes or lenses.
Pressing the ps button on the controller helps to refocus as well. The camera can loose track of your head position and focus will diminish as the screen no longer is in front of you.
I don't see how changing the distance between the eyes can affects the optics of the set. In my case, I get the best image sharpness by pressing the set about 4mm in my face with the head strap tightened. Changing the distance between the eyeballs only changes the area of the image that the console software will blur to create the impression of a deeper image . The only solution to the problem of the lack of sharpness of the image is the use of adjustable optics as in traditional binoculars, but it seems that due to the costs SONY decided to use fixed focal length optics as if everyone in the world had the same eyesight.
It definitely improves it per person, still works as I tried it with multiple family members last week. Any of them who said it looked blurry said it all looked much better after calibrating it per account per person, like in this video.
@@MrMario2011 Exactly. For you and everyone else who has not configured this setting correctly, this method will work because it will change the software blur effect. Everyone else like me who needs a different focal length to get the correct image sharpness will not experience any improvement because as I mentioned we have two different aspects here, the first one is blurry image resulting from the wrong configuration of the graphic effect and the second one caused by lack of OPTICAL sharpness which cannot be removed without variable optics.
Something is not talked about specially for those who wear glasses and I noticed it after a while , is that glasses scratches the lenses of your PSVR which you need to protect them by a plan of somekind! And also if you have scratches already then you need to watch videos of how to make the scratches less by using some of those chimical creams that fixs cds or glasses
anyone that still has image problems after doing these Tips should plug the headset straight into vr unit without the extension. it made a massive difference for myself and others i have informed.
omg, so useful, thank you for this... I didn't think about eye width as being an issue... I haven't actually tried this yet, but I am sure that things will improve. Just as a side note, the eye width, is that the reason why they are saying ages 12 and upwards? Thanks again for a great video :)
For me it's not blurry but really pixelated... as in it looks kinda like 360p. Letters etc are sharp but the actual graphics are really pixelated if they're not right in front of me. Is there anything I can do against that?
if i may say, i have found that there is a better way to adjust my view; First i close one eye and adjust the helmet for that eye (pushing up and down on THAT SIDE OF THE HELMET, then, i do the same with the other eye (closing the other one). Once both eyes have adjust, i then open both eyes and that is usually much better than trying to adjust it with both eyes at same time. if that don't work, be sure you had done the pupil measurement as they say in the video here. if it is still pixelated, it may be simply normal. You have to realise this helmet is the least expensive of them all. Yet, for most games, it should be quite acceptable. There will always be a screening effect but that is the same with other helmet as well (occulus rift and vive, etc...)
ShainCake this isn’t actually screen resolution. This is what is known as antialiasing. It’s a graphics process used to smooth out the edges of objects. The PS4 is unfortunately a rather weak machine for VR so to allow for it to run the VR headset, a lot of games use very low if any antialiasing. The only way to combat this is to upgrade to the slightly more capable PS4 Pro. However even the Pro won’t give you PC VR quality but at least you’re not paying PC prices. Hope this helps explain 😊
@@mike22273 Fuck. I was wondering how a pro would make a difference. I mean the resolution of the VR is going to be the same. Its like my 1X. Didnt make a difference since my TV was only 4k. Had to buy a 4k HDR Tv to make a difference. But that makes sense. Not forking out money for a pro at this point since in sure a ps5 is around the corner.
Thank you for the suggestions. I did them right after watching this video. I think the vision slightly improved, but I am still having issues. Well, I think I am. At 5:42 of this video you show the "Everything is Clear!" screen. Is that image actually what you are seeing with the headset on or is it from an external source like a TV or monitor? I ask because my "Everything is Clear!" screen is anything but clear whilst wearing the headset. The text looks like it's written in Sega Genesis font. The letters are blocky - lots of sharp corners rather than smooth, curving lines. Is this normal? Beyond this, I am having a terrible time seeing things in the background of games. The far distance I can tell something is there but it is very dark and blurry. Anything up close has the 'screen door effect', but I was told that is to be expected. The hardware isn't sophisticated enough to eliminate the effect. Is this normal as well? I have a sneaky suspicion that someone will comment on getting my eyes checked. Well, I did. I had an optometrist appointment 2 weeks before I decided to buy a PSVR. Everything check out.
Just slide the visor away from your eyes using the button on the bottom right of the visor when you need to pick up controllers or do anything else where you need to see your actual surroundings. Then you won’t need to take off the visor.
Not sure if it actually helps, but I've heard that you should set your PS4 to output to 1080p instead of auto. Doesn't using wet wipes leave some residue on your headpiece?
Is it really safe to use a lense cleaner product? because in the manual and official PS tutorial they puposely mention not to use any kind of liquid. just a dry microfibercloth. mine are dirty and the microfibercloth can't remove all of the dirty....but I'm scared to damage my lenses...
+Rik Treutmann That's why I used the lens cleaner, even after some time the microfiber cloth alone isn't enough. Friends I've talked with who have used VR for a while as well as several places I looked online pointed to the direction that it should be fine, but it's really up to you.
when i set the thing up it was blurry i will try this. but funny thing is when ps camera came on it was upside down lol vr is a nice bit of kit watching and experiencing it 2 different things
Great video, thank you. I have a VERY interesting question though... How is the eye calibration thing supposed to work for those with astigmatism (where we can't use both our eyes at once/eyes are off center)? There's got to be some specific guidelines people with eye disabilities can follow, for less blurring/optimization.
Well i do have astig. i found that what help tremendously is to set up each eyes individually! Close one eye and adjust your head set (espacially up/down for me on one side of the helmet until i get a good text reading ability) then i do the other one ( and move the height on that side of the helmet) then, when i open up both eyes, they work perfect. not without any blurriness but that's the best possible for now for that kind of money.

yo what's up yah you too
Too many number nines
Thank you, I just always felt my eyes weren’t straight or even enough to enjoy a clear PSVR experience. It’s good but if i look away from center it blurs. I am beginning to think it’s not me, maybe my OCD?, but it’s not a 100% perfect clear HD image everywhere all at once.
I found that Changing the original HDMI cables (tv to psvr and psvr to ps4) from HDMI1.4 to HMDI 2.0 helped me a lot.
How are they not 2.0 they are all 2.0 the only ones that are different are 2.1 cords
Thanks a lot man! This worked great for me, These small adjustments made my view way clearer.
Great to hear!
True that!
Great video thank you.
I would never use a microfiber cloth on plastic lenses as microfiber are made out of plastic. Polyester is plastic and plastic will leave very fine grooves in plastic.
100% cotton is safer.
Love video very good instruction!!
Awesome channel and information! Your subbies that added useful or funny advice are great too! Thanks for asking your subbies for that. I am grateful.
Great video, man. I got my psvr last month and I cannot stop playing with it. It's fantastic. I'm using your advice in this video because there is blurriness. Silly it doesn't give you the full calibration at the start. Thanks again for this video
Yeah, I've always thought that was odd. Oh well, at least you did it now!
Thank you sir. Thanks to you I have almost a crystal clear experience. I am very pleased with the results of your tutorial.
Wow! Pupil distance measuring! I’m using this number on my Rift. Always guessed before. You taught me something. Worth a subscriber! :D
make sure you do the eye measurements in the options that worked for me loads
Great video ,i thought I'd mention that.. on the back off the headseat is a dial u can twist once the headset is on and this helps with the stability of the the headset on ur head,it will help with blur too, just dont have it too tight .
WOW!! I literally went from headache and extreme eye strain after 5min playing and almost ditching the whole VR thing completely to playing 6hours in one sitting comfortably!!
Very nice! Although be sure to still get breaks in!
Which part helped the most
@@Mrjharedtherosehoneythunderer I attribute 99.9% to the one where you measure the distance between your eyes which for some reason is not included in the initial startup procedure from sony
Put the camera higher up and position it a little downward, I had issues tracking higher up and having it also track the ground when playing games such as job simulator until I made these adjustments, now all they need to do is add 360 camera view for full tracking!
This video explains the product better than Sony does. I figured the eye adjustment would be a physical control, didn't know it was in the menus!
Disappointing, but I appreciate the compliment.
Glad it might be helpful!
GFJF and *EYE* see what you did there.
Thank you so much bud..... I feel like this has fixed alot of my problems with the VR..... Once again thank you
For the cleaning section you can remove the light shield completely and rinse it off in a sink with warm water, just pull very gently.
Great video. I was concerned my eye distance was interfering and that I just had to deal with it. Thank you for the tips that Sony had missed telling me for some reason.
Brand new to the vr. This has helped alot!, ill be subscribing, hoping for more tips on the PlayStation 4! Good explaining man
Thank you, I did not know that there was not a tutorial when you start it up, so thanks because I might be getting one soon.
I really hope they make a new version that you can adjust to your eyesight like you do with binoculars.
That would be great.
my wallet would cry if they made another psvr
thank you sooooo much for this i will do these immediatly i have been so anoyyed about the blurring for AGES thank you so much! :D
Good idea.
I've watched a few of these. This is by far the best. Thanks
Thanks for the tips mate I'll try them tomorrow. I have a leather sofa and I've found that if I throw a non reflective sheet or blanket over the side of the sofa that I am not using it helps with the screen shifting to the left.
He's right about the initial steps for blurred vision but if u want to prevent fog, blow dry ur psvr lenses. Fog is caused by room temperature .
iREALLY APPRECIATE YOU BEING SELFLESS AND TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE THIS VIDEO MARIO! YOUR A BLESSING IN DISGUISE MAN! P.S. I SEE YOU WITH THE SYSTEM OF A DOWN SHIRT HOMIE ;-)
"WAIT FOR THE LORD'S HELP. BE STRONG AND BRAVE, AND WAIT FOR THE LORD'S HELP."
I've just started on resident evil 7 vr and I understand that that was 1 of the early vr releases, it is a bit grainy but I did these adjustments in your video and its seems to have smoothed things out considerably. the walking dead saints and sinners is now out on ps4 and that game looks badass bro, I'm looking forward to seeing how the overall graphic textures have come along since RE7 compared with the release of the walking dead which got released on the 5th of this month I beleive. thx for the tutorial anyway dude, peace. ✌🇬🇧✌
The PS4 Pro really helps with the blurred VR headset on some games if they are patched, I noticed it cleaned up the periferals quite well.
I know this video is ages old but have a fuckin sub mate. IPD is so important and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why there was no adjustment on the hardware side for PSVR. Fortunately it was okay out of the box but dialing it in perfectly is EXACTLY what I wanted. TYSM.
I greatly appreciate you making this instructional video. Thank you so much.
And need to remember where your soda is setting 👍
The most important tip here.
Thanks for these useful tips. I wouldn't have done this if i hadn't seen your video.
great advice will try eye tracking tomorrow never knew that
watched movie on dvd today was good quality a little blurry but Blu ray far far better much clearer picture and sounded great
Great video. Didn't know any of these options were on there. been having issues with the blur hopefully this sorts it out.
Tracking works best in a dark room. Cannot stress that enough.
I'll say this once, it's up to you how you clean it anyway. Sony adamantly stated not to use any type of liquid on your PSVR lenses, only the microfibre cloth.
+SlashingShadow copying and pasting this response that I just typed to someone else who referred to the manual but said their lenses are now nasty because screw retyping stuff on a phone:
That's why I used the lens cleaner, even after some time the microfiber cloth alone isn't enough.
Thanks for this. Crazy sony didn't include these things as the basic setup.
I don't see how changing the distance between the eyes can affects the optics of the set. In my case, I get the best image sharpness by pressing the set about 4mm in my face with the head strap tightened. Changing the distance between the eyeballs only changes the area of the image that the console software will blur to create the impression of a deeper image
Makes sense as you have a direct connection, however you'd just have to be careful moving around without that extension.
***** i wouldn't recommend playing without the extension, only to try it, and if it did give clearer images you could then get a replacement. 🤔
Good informative video. Hope that addresses a bunch of peoples problems.
These were some very good tips thank you! Liked and subbed.
This us amazing i did all steps and it worked fantastically well
omg, so useful, thank you for this... I didn't think about eye width as being an issue... I haven't actually tried this yet, but I am sure that things will improve.
Just as a side note, the eye width, is that the reason why they are saying ages 12 and upwards?
Thanks again for a great video :)
Most likely, there also hasn't been enough long term testing on the effects of VR on children.
hi, great video my question is , if you unplug the VR headset from the ps4 do you have to re calibrate the headset each time you reconnect? thanks
Are you using a normal PS4?
@@mike22273 Fuck. I was wondering how a pro would make a difference. I mean the resolution of the VR is going to be the same. Its like my 1X. Didnt make a difference since my TV was only 4k. Had to buy a 4k HDR Tv to make a difference. But that makes sense. Not forking out money for a pro at this point since in sure a ps5 is around the corner.
@@respond_code3 i cant wait for vr2 but gonna need a ps5 for that im guessing
Great vid thanks 👍🏻
Now I just need to find my sick bag
Really helpful!! Good job adding this!!
I have always wondered what if you have prescription glasses how can you use it in the first place.
Is the lense cleaning liquid thing he used really safe for the lenses? Just making sure
Awesome tips. Downside to adjusting settings to my face/eyes is if someone else uses the headset on my profile. There should be an easier way.
Make a separate profile for them, that's what I do for friends and family who use it.
Not sure if it actually helps, but I've heard that you should set your PS4 to output to 1080p instead of auto.
Doesn't using wet wipes leave some residue on your headpiece?
Bless you dude! Im getting ready to buy one! Can't wait :D
Use "dim" lights, playing in the dark is nice but it's hard to place yourself in the box wen it tells you to.
I use Zeiss lens wipes to clean my PSVR’s lenses and gentle antibacterial baby wipes similar to wet ones to clean the padding.
Unfortunately my tv is too skinny to have it sat on the top, I have to have it on the stand 😕
Unfortunately I doubt there's anything specifically designed for that on the PS VR.
