Most under appreciated QB of all time. Romo will always be my favorite player, he was amazing at reading defenses, insanely good at scrambling, and was clutch as hell. He has the most 4th quarter comebacks in the NFL from 2006-2015 (years he was healthy and actually played, except for 2015 he only played like 4 games, yet still held that record). Had some of the worst defenses in NFL history and a terrible o-line for the majority of his career until Jerry finally drafted him one. Too bad the defenses were still awful and they couldn’t hold a damn lead. Without Romo the Cowboys would have been so bad, he literally made them decent to great by carrying the team. I believe he still had a good chance to win in 2016, but all the fans and coaches (mostly jason garrett) gave up on him even though he was the only damn thing that kept the cowboys relevant for years.
Exactly if he would have had the defense we have now he would have definitely taken us to a Super Bowl or two that’s for sure. I agree with you and I think they would have won the superbowl that year but decided to go with dak and well we've seen how that has turned out so far no fn superbowl but I'll always believe if they went with Romo they would have won it all
Always annoys me that people don't recognize just how good he was. The Denver game that year people still say he lost it. He threw for 506 yards, a 140 passer rating, and 48 points. You do that and your team loses, the QB isn't the problem.
Unfortunately most Cowboys fans are toxic as hell, I still remember that game as well and what I remember most is the defense didn't stop Denver 1 time but it was Romo's fault they lost because he threw a pick on the final drive. When you score 50pts Romo should have been sitting on the bench because it should have been a blowout. Lmfao. Dak is getting the same treatment right now if not even worse.
@@ronmichaelgaray right and now that the Boyz have one of the best defenses in the league they want to start Rush over Dak because the defense is carrying the team to victory dragging Rush kicking and screaming. Damn right, people loved to hate on him just because he was the cowboys QB but failed to realize he was an absolutely amazing QB on a team that failed him constantly. He really never had a good defense and his o-line was terrible until late in his career because jerry finally drafted him one.
Give Romo the Doomsday Defense and he could win multiple SBs easily. The talent was always there but unfortunately the rest of the team wasn’t, and by the time they started to put it together, it was too late.
Easily 2 or 3 championship's with today's defense. Romo played the majority of his career with a below average line until his final year's when Jerry started drafting o-linemen. It's unfortunate how the chips fell for him because he truly was a great one.
Romo was the man , how good he was is obvious now when you watch his broadcasts, knowledge of the game is amazing. They never should have replaced him w Dak, who will never be Tony R - legend
Romo was on his way out and the way the team responded to Dak forced their hand. Romo maybe had 1 more year but the way he was getting hurt towards the end he needed to retire so he could live life pain free unlike Earl Campbell. It was the right decision but a tough one to do.
@@vlone9971 I thought they should have went back to Romo that season because I think we blow out GB with Romo. It was crazy because Dak didn't do shit the first half of that game which we all know Romo would have lit that GB team up. Props to Dak for fighting back and almost winning that game in the end but Romo wouldn't have needed to do that. For whatever reason Dak never liked throwing to Dez and the first half he didn't do shit but the second half he finished with over 100yds and 2tds. That game still pisses me off honestly.
This is a shining example of something I saw countless times by Jason Witten. He would make a catch, and a defender would smash into him full force. For you or me, that's unconsciousness; but even for an NFL tight end you at least go down, if not drop the ball. He would take those NFL force blows and almost NEVER do more than flinch. He could be tackled. But if you crashed into him - right there in the end zone, when the totality of the objective is to make him drop it - it never succeeded. You never thought of him as a hulk, an iron man, but there it is.
But oh yeah, I forgot, our beloved Madden gave him Iron Man status for what he did on one particular play :) They made a rule change because of it. I must stress, I saw Witten take countless full force hits. He would just flinch. I think the rest of the world just looked at his stats (and those stats alone will make him a walk in).
All contraire I am a big fan of Jason Witten and you are correct he is probably the toughest tight end to ever play the game. I remember one game where he caught a short pass and took off for yardage after the catch, and in the process of the other team trying to tackle him and I emphasize trying 🙄 he lost his helmet and kept right on going heading for the end zone with blood running down his face! Somebody tell me this isn't a tough sob 😤
@@dwaynecollins4974 That's the Madden play I mentioned in the reply :) Another thing he did almost as well as anyone (Emmitt Smith was a tad better at this) was the basic football skill of stretching the extra yard or 2 or 2.5. Not when they needed to reach the chains; he just had the innate skill of falling/dragging himself an extra half or whole body length ahead. That theoretically added an extra 1,000 yards to his career total !! And I 'm not exaggerating. He was stunning at powering/leaning/stretching for the extra yard. It's all over his highlight reels.
Jason Witten is the one guy who aside from Romo I feel most bad for not getting a ring (I would say Ware as well, but he got one with Denver). These two gave their heart and soul to the Cowboys, to people in my generation, they *were* the Cowboys. It’s still hard to look out there and not see Romo slinging it to Witten, who then takes the hit and falls forward in that unique way only he can do and lands exactly 6 inches past the first down :) it was the ultimate security blanket.
@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 Precisely. I hope when he is cheered into the Hall that they recognize that additional amazing skill he had on making the crucial extra yard or as you say even half a foot. I don't think anyone except a handful of running backs could compare to his tremendous skill at that.

As a cowboys fan Romo has always been underrated the guy was undrafted and he put those numbers up in his career I loved watching him play... if he was part of another team he would've gotten the respect he deserved
Yall hate Dak for no reason. Dak is better. And I promise you Dak Has faced much harder competition in the playoffs. The niners that dak has faced is one of the best niner teams in their history. Romo would've been injured by the niners. Its just a fact and I love romo
This was my first time seeing the cowboys play at home I was 12 and Im a huge cowboys fan but born, raised and still live in NYC. I was all dressed up my face was painted blue and silver, I had a hat, towel the whole get up . I was legit in tears during the game because I thought I flew all the way to see them loose, but when Witten caught that ball I almost passed out the Stadium was nuts. Nothing will compare to seeing that live for me. (unless we win a superbowl)
Jason and Tony deserve more credit than they get. Those two did manage some bad situations fairly well considering how many injuries they had to deal with.
@@blitzedsmith9233 At the end of his career he did become more injured than playing. But it wasn't Jason's fault the defense missed tackles etc and crumbled. With all the injuries he could have gone way under .500 but he was able to keep a .500 record. Look at Jeff fisher who is far worse than Jason but was getting more opportunities.
No imagine if Jerry Jones actually give the head coaching job when Parcells retired because of Jerry Jones. Sean Payton was my cowboys offense of coordinator. He ask Jerry for the but no Jerry ego to big. For years I'm watching the saints run offense my cowboys was supposed to run. Sean is the reason Romo came to the cowboys for lesser money over Mike Shanahan Broncos. Who offered more money. Mike Shanahan still regrets not getting Romo. The Broncos would of been a beast. Romo would of had a defense and a better offense of line early tbh.
@@leecowell8165 They signed Drew Brees the same offseason they hired Sean Payton. And yes, Brees obviously worked out for them, but he wasn't a surefire thing at the time. He needed shoulder surgery that same offseason and his numbers were fine for a starting QB in the NFL but certainly didn't indicate he was a future HOF. I took the original comment more as an "imagine what Romo's career would have been like if he went to the Saints" instead of "imagine what the Saints would have been like if he went to the Saints that offseason instead of Brees"
The greatest QB in the history of the Dallas Cowboys. He’s easily a Hall of Famer in my mind. Yes he doesn’t have the wins to probably get him there but he was always someone special to watch AND let’s be real he was better than Eli and a top 5 QB in his tenure. Incredible player.
Eli wasn't a very good QB but because his defense got hot at the end of the season in both superbowl wins they were able to ride them to a ring and because of Eli's last name he got the MVP in both when it should have been the defensive line as a unit because of what they were able to do to the leagues #1 offense. Brady was getting hit hard damn near every pass and you could see it was really getting to him. At the time the Pats offense was the best to ever play and they held under 20pts.
lolol the ONLY way Tony gets into the NFL HOF is with a ticket like the rest of us; getting shit done when the chips are down at the biggest moments is what opens the HOF doors...manning did it.....romo did not. VERY simple math
@@davemiller8215 unfortunately some people judge individual players by team measurements. There was NFL football before Romo do you know? The Cowboys had Starbach and Aikman. How many conference finals Romo did play? How many Starbach and Aikman? Not to mention their SB appearances. Your claim is rediculous.
I wonder if Romo is the only QB to literally end his career with a TD pass lol. Not this game, I know. But he threw a TD in Week 17 against the Eagles before they put Sanchez in. That was his last NFL pass. I miss my guy though. Always felt like we had a chance with Tony. He just gave you that feeling
Romo was as clutch as anyone. Most of the picks came due to breakdowns in protection, wrong route being run by receiver or a db outworking a wr on a comeback route or out, or simply the defense knowing he had to throw and being well aware of the play all tendencies of the cowboys. My favorite all time player and a great future coach.
You just argued exactly why he wasn't clutch......many of those interceptions can be avoided with better quarterback play..... don't make excuses for the least clutch QB in history lol

It’s funny how perspective works. After 3 games in 2015, the Cowboys were 2-1, but I knew the season was over. It didn’t matter who the Cowboys tried (and they tried everyone but the ball boy that year), nobody could replace Romo. This year, the Cowboys are also 2-1, but I feel a lot more optimistic than I did back then. I don’t feel like the team’s fortunes are as tied to Dak as they were to Romo. They’re capable of winning with a backup QB, which is something they simply couldn’t do back in Romo’s time. If Romo had the defense Dallas has now, I truly think he would’ve had them in super bowl contention every year.
@@timdarnell7819 I think he deserves a higher rating but underrating, I don't think so because we are talking about him all the time. If he was under hardly a word would be talked about him. Yet he holds a few Dallas a couple of NFL records. So the man is up there.
Here's one that few have heard, and that's a sad point: in his 10 seasons as starter, Romo had a winning record in 9 of them. In those same years, all other Dallas QBs won only 30% - which is worse than 5-11 on average. In no season during Tony's career did his substitutes win more than they lost. Do you realize how astonishing that is? That is Hall of Fame performance. Yet haterz and even some Cowboys fans disregard that and called him a "gunslinger" or "selfish" ? Shaking my head. *Top 10 highest winning percentage of any QB ever.*
The NFC East in 2015 was so damn weird. Cowboys were injured all to hell, Eagles were so inconsistent, Giants couldn't take advantage of a weak division and win it, and the Redskins pretty much won it by default.
I think the giants were like historically bad in the 4th quarter that year. They blew a lot of leads when they coulda won 10 games and easily won the division
Oh god it was so painful. I wished someone in the division would have just run away with it, but no, they all had to be mediocre and remind me that the Cowboys could’ve clinched the East by mid season with a heathy Romo.
8 years later and dak still can't do anything this magical. I wish Romo could come back for 1 more year with these loaded teams dak has and get us at minimum a Super Bowl appearance. Can't wait for dak to leave so we can move onto hopefully the next Romo with a better cast surrounding him.
Clueless. Romo had enough talent around him. Cowboys had the #1 seed in '07 and they still lost their 1st playoff game. Current cowboys aren't "loaded" (lol), no running game, O line is questionable at best. Romo/Dak are basically the same, good, not great. Get over it.
Wtf you mean dak aint got shit ,romo had a loaded offense dak doesnt ,dak is great give him more weapons like the eagles and for SURE he is going to super bowl
Only true cowboys fans agree that Romo is ten times better then dak. Games like these are when the qb has to step up and finish strong. This is something dak will never do in his career. He always chokes when the game is on the line.
Man, I miss Romo and Witten. Favorite player of all time. That last play where he is directing the entire offense, setting up the perfect play. His coordinator ability made him the ultimate weapon
I've been a Cowboys fan since the Staubach days. Even with the years of bad teams, Romo had me jumping out of my seat more than I ever remember with Aikman. He was just so exciting while dragging two win teams to 9-7
I always thought it was a mistake letting Dak not have that mentorship he did early on with having Tony and Mark Sanchez on the bench. The kid needed someone to learn from and he had probably one of the best starters at the time and a guy who had enough field experience who both showed him how to make smarter decisions as a QB. Now it feels like he’s lost those fundamentals because he’s supported by his OC who happened to be a backup as well that barely had any playing time and younger dudes as his backups that are looking up to him (albeit one who’s actually trying to win his spot now). Dak has the potential, they just didn’t put the right system for him to utilize it once Tony and Mark were gone
@@GanzoHasashi1911 I thought the same also he was good but he didn’t have playoff experience and wasn’t comfortable once playoffs came we could’ve really used romo

I will never forget this moment. I jumped out off my couch and screamed with joy when Witten caught the ball in the end zone. Hopes were so high to start that season. It's so sad this was basically Romo's last great moment. He got hurt the very next week, and in a way that was the end of his career. He did come back later in the year but quickly got re-injured, and then the next season Dak took the reigns. Romo was awesome and never got the respect he deserved. Jerry wasted this man's career. Romo had a good enough team to go to s.b. in his last year . Injury took that away. Look how far presscott took this team that year. Romo was so underrated!!!!
Romo said it that year that he was looking forward to that season because he felt that was the best team he had been around. Sadly, he got hurt in preseason, allowing for the "gullible" to believe that the "so-called" quarterback Dak could take them to the superbowl. Had carrot top allowed Romo to play against Greenbay, the pokes would have won easily. Allowing a dumb rookie to play was a stupid decision by a stupid coach. The dumb rookie couldn't beat a very bad Packard team. Proof that the Pack was a bad team was manifested the following week when Atlanta destroyed them. No wonder carrot top no longer coaches. He was a very, very bad coach.
@@sonnyrios3991 Hate to burst your bubble but the Cowboys improved massively under the final years of Garrett, and that includes getting rid of Romo. This is the type of thing that can happen when coaches stand aside and allow a great offensive mind like Tony Romo to attack a team with the game on the line. Most teams are so afraid of making a defensive mistake in those situations that an aggressive quarterback like Romo can eat them alive if they keep up the offensive pressure instead of calling timeouts and allowing the defense to regroup. I am so glad the Cowboys were out of timeouts........because something tells me Garret would have stopped Tony's rhythm with timeouts at the worst times. Great win for the Cowboys. Jason Whitten was a man among boys.

I remember by the time McFadden got to the cowboys after playing for the raiders for most of his career, he was damaged goods that Jerry Jones gave a job to because he's a Arkansas razorback alumni
Man I miss Romo. He was blammed far too often for the rest of the team's inefficiencies having to carry the team on his back. But with Romo I never felt we were out of it during a game. Can't say that with Dak.
The 2015 giants should’ve made the playoffs. Unfortunately, they couldn’t capitalize off a weak division, and blew leads in the 4th quarter. It’s such a shame
2015 Giants lost 4 leads in the final 2 minutes and gave up a game winning field goal to the panthers as well. Couldn’t get it done in the final minutes

Yes. This single rule change ruined the entire game. There's a ton of other BS now, but this in particular really took a ton of excitement out of it. The return attempt is practically a dead concept now. I miss seeing a team run all the way down the field once or twice a week...
Typical! And 6:30 Chris says "Romo has taken a lot of heat over the years for not playing in the clutch." He's as clueless as the rest: - At retirement, he was THIRD PLACE ALL TIME in comebacks. - THIRD PLACE ALL TIME in 4th Q rating. During his career Romo had THE highest 4th Q rating of any QB. Above Brees. Payton. Brady. Rodgers. All of them. - Only 4 QBs in history had had a better TD to INT rate: Rodgers, Brady, Steve Young, Payton. - 3rd highest completion rate in history. - By FAR the highest rated December QB. (Ignorant haters love to get that one wrong.) - 10th highest winning percentage of any QB ever. These are at retirement. Rankings may have changed. But he had essentially achieved these when Chris made that typically stupid remark :)
I stopped watching the Cowboys after the 2016 season. When you got a healthy Romo sitting on the bench and Garrett starts a ROOKIE no less in a playoff game and loses, it's time to call it quits. Rightfully so. Jones and Garrett ruined Romo's last chance at a Superbowl. Fact.

@@bigred9991 still pisses me off and I'm a Steelers fan
If they put him back in the last game and in play off, Cowboys would definitely go to super bowl then. Dak cannot throw the ball.
@@dwaynecollins4974 That's the Madden play I mentioned in the reply :)
Another thing he did almost as well as anyone (Emmitt Smith was a tad better at this) was the basic football skill of stretching the extra yard or 2 or 2.5.
@@leecowell8165 They signed Drew Brees the same offseason they hired Sean Payton. And yes, Brees obviously worked out for them, but he wasn't a surefire thing at the time.

If Romo had the defense Dallas has now, I truly think he would’ve had them in super bowl contention every year.
no doubt but unfortunately, there was never a complete team around him. he's probably the most underrated QB, if not player, of all time.

100% correct 🎯 I been saying dak is overrated. Romo wasn't overrated more underrated then anything.
Now it feels like he’s lost those fundamentals because he’s supported by his OC who happened to be a backup as well that barely had any playing time and younger dudes as his backups that are looking up to him (albeit one who’s actually trying to win his spot now). 2015 Giants lost 4 leads in the final 2 minutes and gave up a game winning field goal to the panthers as well. Couldn’t get it done in the final minutes

I was there for that game and I tell you just an incredible feeling it was! Amazing comeback and win💙💙💙💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved Tony Romo and the fact that he never quit not only that he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame and he is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in all of football
I'm so happy that Demarcus Lawrence is still with us
Romo is my QB! Cowboy Legend!
Throwback Game suggestions for this week:
Jets/Steelers 2004 AFC Divisional playoffs
Colts/Titans 1999 AFC Divisional playoffs
Vikings/Saints 2004 Week 6
Broncos/Raiders 1993 AFC Wild Card Game
Yes been looking for any version of the raiders broncos 1993 wild card game and steelers jets 2004 is good but the whole game is online
Romo was a great QB for Dallas. Had he stayed with them without the injuries, with the players they got within the last 6 years, he would've won a superbowl easily.
Not true since u can’t predict his health.
Stop it with the Super Bowl
As a bucs fan I really respect Tony Romo one of my favorite players to watch
Miss seeig Romo play really good qb always had best comebacks!!
Romo so underrated.... so glad we have Cooper Clutch now...and not stat padding dak
After one game???
man why did jerry wait so late to build around romo thats what i never understood
I like cooper over dak but neither one of them is romo lol
In no way Cooper Rush is better than Dak get a hold of yourself. He threw for 102 yards and we’re getting carried by the defense and run game, nothing to do with Rush

Wow. These Cowboys actually know how to hand the ball to the ref after a play.
Yes, and they also seem to know ly how to get out of bounds
🤨 I DONT CARE WHAT NOBODY SAY YOU COULD NEVER COUNT OUT TONY ROMO UNTIL THE CLOCK WAS AT 0:00! HE TOOK THE COWBOYS RITE DOWN THE FIELD AND PULLED OFF ANOTHER GREAT COWBOYS COMEBACK WIN VS THE GIANTS😁👍
The amount of criticism Romo received over his career is ridiculous. Romo was a true gamer, winner and warrior. Cowboys Nation miss this guy. Truly underrated.
10:05 Witten and Collinsworth both say "WOW" at the exact same time. Chris is next level.
Not a single comment on here about Lance dunbar. He only gained 50 yards on two plays!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a Packers fan, I’m gonna be very blunt, Tony Romo should have won the Super Bowl
As a Cowboys fan, he didn't have the ingredients.
1:55 the good ole days when a touchback took you to the 20 yard line
Yes. This single rule change ruined the entire game. There's a ton of other BS now, but this in particular really took a ton of excitement out of it. The return attempt is practically a dead concept now. I miss seeing a team run all the way down the field once or twice a week...
Romo was the best I have ever seen in the situations. I wouldn’t rather have anyone under center in this situation.
5:57 **The snap hits Romo in the shins**
Al Michaels: “He drops the ball!”
Typical! And 6:30 Chris says "Romo has taken a lot of heat over the years for not playing in the clutch." He's as clueless as the rest:
- At retirement, he was THIRD PLACE ALL TIME in comebacks.
(Ignorant haters love to get that one wrong.)
- 10th highest winning percentage of any QB ever.

Fact.
What’s weird to me is that I live in Florida, there’s a massive hurricane going on and everyone else is just all fine. Ik it’s unrelated to football but u wonder what people in New York and Dallas are thinking.
Well when you put it like that, thinking about you man, hope your safe
@@marktrevino8451 naw I’m fine I’m in one of those areas that doesn’t get affected as much, but thanks for caring.
2024. Man I kind of miss Romo at his great moments.
Romo has seen it all. From a fumble to an interception to a sack. And lots more. I remember one game he misplayed the ball and picked it up and ran it in for a touchdown. now.I that's Romo.
If Romo had the team Dak has.......
man I miss romo so much
10:05 Wow
Wow
Ha! Jedi Witten using The Force on Collinsworth.
