When you take damage, you discard from your hand OR the top of your deck. Missing this rule makes this game almost unplayable. Great game when you pick up on this rule though. Great tutorial.
Thank you! I got this for my birthday and I'm so excited to start playing now that I don't have to spend hours trying to understand the rule book on my own
For years now, I've been wanting Fromsoft to partner with wizards of the coast to create a souls TCG. It would be epic!! Imagine the vast possibilities, combining Dark souls, Elden ring, Demon souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro and expanding with each set it could be as popular and as big as magic the gathering.
Man, I was planning on picking this game up but I'm glad I checked a tutorial first. I don't like games with that many symbols to keep track of. Just use text, there's so much space on those cards to spell out exactly what each option does. I feel like every other turn I'd be referring to the rulebook to decipher what my new cards do
This game could be a lot worse in my opinion. There’s a nice little reference card as well, all that being said - there are better games to spend your money on anyways
from what i have played the only thing that doesnt line up with the video game is how the loot system works. i would have the loot go into inventory and then leave the souls into the loot area at all times. use the souls when ever you rest if you can but lose them if you if you die.
How many cards in total are in the dark souls card game for the base set? I know it’s 400+ I just need to know if it’s more than 450?? Please someone help..
Sorry for the late question, but taking your example before the boss, let's imagine I rest at the bonfire instead of facing the boss. Do I need to engage that same encounter AGAIN to get to the boss?
Well it won't be the exact same encounter most likely, but yes, the whole board is essentially reset when you rest at a bonfire. Any encounters you completed before have to be redone to fight the boss.
Yes, from the instructions, you take off the "Encounter Cleared" token(s) when you rest at a bonfire, and you have to clear it again after resting if you choose that path again (of course new enemies will be drawn). Very much in the spirit of the game in how enemies "respawn" after resting at a bonfire (besides bosses).
As I can't find the answer anywhere, does condition damage ignore armor? I.E. if I inflict poison or frostbite on an enemy, and the enemy has 1 armor and 1 health. Would it kill the enemy when the poison/frostbite does its damage? Or is it soaked by the armor?
That is an excellent question. The rule book is a bit vague on this, but I believe since you can’t stack the same conditions on top of each other - it is meant to be read that the 1 damage goes through armor since it’s applied as part of an attack. So in your example I believe that yes, the enemy would be dead.
@@Paint_to_play Brilliant, I thought so too. Else it would make most conditions quite useless. Like why even apply poison if it's going to be mitigated by the armor :/ But I didn't want to just make up my own rules xD And potentially make it easier than it should be.
Just one question, how do you separate stamina cards? Also, how do I draw the six cards, do I just put the weapons and shields in the same pile as the single stamina card?
You separate them exactly as I showed them, by the picture on the front. -0:55 You'll have a class deck made up of cards with the same symbol as your class in the top right hand corner (you can custom build decks later) so for the knight, you take all the cards with the sword and shield symbol in the top right hand corner shuffle them up and draw six cards from that deck.
I believe the cards are the same size - they use the same size sleeve. As for the player board it’s not very big - sorry I don’t have exact measurements as I sold the game awhile ago but it’s smaller than most cars playmats if that helps
Hi, once you defeat the enemy, gain the loot and decide to go to the bonfire. Do you take the loot and place it in your inventory and divide among players? they add these to the class deck along with the stamina cards bought to a maximum of the stated number on the bonfire card? Do you have to reshuffle the cards before continuing? Can I not keep weapons or armor I collected?
Yes, all the loot goes into the inventory and can be divided among players. Think of the inventory as like the inventory in the game, you always have it, but since you don't have any of the equipped you can't use it at the moment, but everything in there stays. Only your deck you draw from has to be the card size described. Otherwise, there's no limits to the inventory, you could have all the cards in the game in there (impossible, but if you houseruled it, everything can go in there). Before your first encounter after rebuilding your deck, you must shuffle you're new deck. As above, you can keep everything you collect. You may just not be able to use it if your deck is already full.
I have 1 question, its enemy turn, i take 3 dmg and discard 3 cards. when its my turn to do my actions do i buy cards until i have 6 in hand again? each time?
Yea. The sequence goes: Enemy attacks. You discard 3 cards to represent the damage. If there are no more enemies, the enemy phase ends. You then draw back up to 6 cards. Then you start your activation. During your activation, you can only draw cards when you do the action to discard and draw or after your activation is complete.
I honestly don’t remember and do not own the game anymore. You’d have the check the manual or perhaps BGG has some information on exact numbers of starting decks
When you rest at a bonfire, do you reshuffle your discard pile back into your deck? Or just put them at the bottom of your current deck? Also, RE the inventory... Do you choose those cards to add to your deck or can any of those cards be used at any time (ie separate from the deck but just as usable). Hope that's clear, thanks! And great video 👍
The inventory is basically a storage area. You can put as many cards as you like in there, but you can't use them (actually wish they had called in player storage over inventory). Wyhen you rest, you can look in there and add cards to your deck or take cards out of your deck and add them to the inventory. And yes, reshuffle the whole pile of discard cards, you may have taken cards out anyway, and then place it face down and draw your new hand.
When you take damage, you discard from your hand OR the top of your deck. Missing this rule makes this game almost unplayable. Great game when you pick up on this rule though. Great tutorial.
I wasn’t specific about that and you are absolutely correct. Thank you for pointing that out.
Comment here if anything was unclear, happy to answer any questions or consider a reedit!
How does the loot work, is it a loot card per character or just one for the group?
@WhichOneIsHe it would be one for the group. Souls and loot are shared by all players
this vid helped out a ton ! and that 5 years later!! you defenitly earned a sub! i hope you reach 1k soon!

What’s the background music? It fits the game so well! Thank you for putting the work into such an amazing tutorial, great job!!
Thank you. That’s a nice compliment. I’m not positive what the background music is anymore. I know I got it off soundstripe.
This was a very well done straightforward video, thank you. I need a reminder on how to play and this helped
That’s nice to hear - thank you

Do i discard the stamina cards when i play a card? Or i just turn them and keep them on my hand? Just the stamina , the items i know how they work
Good question - I played it as you discard them. I do not believe the rule book specifies that. The new rule book might though.
Just one question, how do you separate stamina cards? Also, how do I draw the six cards, do I just put the weapons and shields in the same pile as the single stamina card?

You're welcome. Hopefully that clears things up.
Are the size of the cards the same as Magic the gathering cards? Could you tell me the size of the board player.
I believe the cards are the same size - they use the same size sleeve. As for the player board it’s not very big - sorry I don’t have exact measurements as I sold the game awhile ago but it’s smaller than most cars playmats if that helps
What happens when an enemy is defeated? Do I discard them or shuffle them back into the enemy deck?
Rulebook only says to remove them from the board so I would assume the intention is to discard them.

Where can I buy for this set?
Can buy it on Amazon: amzn.to/4eWFfjd
Or direct from steamforged games. Your local game store may have it as well

YOU ARE AWESOME! ❤❤❤
Buddy you are a godsend cus the instruction booklet fuckin sucks.
Haha thank you. I’m glad it helped you
Quick question, does character movement occur only before the fight or can you move after you attack too?
You can move after. You can do any of the actions in any order you want and can do all of them if you wish, but only one of each can be performed
Do you recover after every Encounter?
Nope, only when you rest. Otherwise, if you continue fighting whatever cards left it all you have for that encounter.
Quick question, how did you not notice that hangnail when you were filming?
David Hess bothered you that much huh?
how many purple stamina do i need for the socrere person

@@Paint_to_play Very helpful. Thanks for clearing that all up. Much appreciated!
@@jordanb.1477 No problem, happy to help. All these questions actually help me for making better how to plays in the future as well. :)
2:36 to actually learn to play

how do i play this game
Well hopefully this video explains how you play it. 😃 if there are any specific questions about mechanics or rules questions I’m happy to answer them
But what does reanimate mean 😭
You have to kill the skeleton twice!
