      Yeah I have noticed that manuals for games these days are not always clear. There are grammar issues in some games which makes it very confusing and hard to understand. How to play videos like these are the way to go as they're clear and faster than reading and trying to understand.

    Your tutorial for Dark Souls board game was excellent and really helped me learn the game.
    I'm not a Dark Soul video game fan at all but it's my favourite 'kill everything' dice chucker :)

    Thanks for this, my wife and I recently got this game and routinely get our asses kicked. By the time we beat Vordt, the bonfire is usually at 4 and that leaves us with very little time to tackle the other boss. I was convinced we were doing something wrong.
    I guess we just suck. Lol.
    By the way, we've found the assassin feels slightly underpowered compared to the other three characters. We've houseruled that the assassin can move diagonally provided there isn't anyone in the space, given that they're supposed to be nimble.

      @LearntoPlayGames  5 років тому +1

      Hey TalonSky thanks for commenting and you don't suck at the game it is challenging and suppose to be hard. Also thanks for posting your house rules it is cool seeing what people change and how it helps them play the game. I will have a video soon covering the expansion as well and it adds some cool new features.

      I'm gonna implement this one for sure!
      Also had the idea that, in case you want to play in easy mode, you could have 8 cards on your hand and/or have the amount of enemies downgraded like you would play with 1 player less, but keeping the amount of treasure the same.
      I mean, no one will kill you if you come up with house rules to fit the game to your playing abilities. In my opinion it's always better to make a game easier and to play it on the regular and have fun than to leave it on the shelf.

    Thank you for making this video. My brother and I started the game for the first time and discovered how woefully inadequate the instructions are. We had no idea how many cards we were supposed to have in our hand and with a game that counts your cards as your life, it's kind of important!
    Another thing you should consider for future videos: if a game wants you to have a "starter deck", explain what that means bc it may be different per game or the game might not explain it properly to begin with (as was the case with this game).

    Great tutorial, thank you! Two questions: couldn't you have moved the assassin 1 tile left and attack from the bottom row? (enemies have to be in the same row as you, you don't have to be right in front of them as long as there's an empty space in front of you as far as I know). And the other question: shouldn't you remove the frostbite off of the Herald after it has been activated and the damage has been done? I know that the boss has a startingg effect that each character in the front row gets frostbite, but that is in the boss's phase.

    • @2185JTT
      @2185JTT 5 років тому +1

      To your last part of your statement. I would believe the frostbite happens on the players turns. The way its worded "when a player character starts its turn in the front row. It suffers frostbite." So it sounds as though it happens on the players turn not the bosses phase.

    • @darthvadder5712
      @darthvadder5712 5 років тому +1

      As I understand, enemies have to be in the same column, so the assassin could have been moved to the left and attack. If he could only attack an enemy that is right in front of him you couldn't attack enemies in the back row unless you have a ranged weapon.

    • @richanderson1275
      @richanderson1275 5 років тому +1

      Darth Vadder Range only matters where line of site is blocked if yr in the same line. Otherwise it allows attacks in other columns. If this wasn’t the case there would be enemies the knight just couldn’t kill!

      It does but it also shows the order that they are resolved in otherwise it would make things crazy hard. So each enemy attack will have to be resolved separately. • @LearntoPlayGames
      @LearntoPlayGames  5 років тому +1

      Yes and no, in the rules it states you simply take a number of cards from target discard to the bottom of their deck face down so you don't get to choose the cards you are returning but if you are playing more hard core strategy you could be mindful of how you place cards in your discard pile so when you heal you will get better cards back. hope this helps thanks for watching and for the question.

    • @leventduski2975
      @leventduski2975 3 роки тому

      If your healing is 5, you have to take the last 5 cards of your discard pile as they are, without shuffling them, you turn over this small deck of 5 cards, and you place it at the bottom of your deck, face down.

    During the player attack phase, how does the shield value work if 2 characters attack the same monster, given that they do not ignore the shield value?
    Does the shield deplete for the turn after the first attack or do you need to account for the shield on every attack?
    As example: the monster has 4 shield and 1 health, your characters can both attack, one for 2 damage and one for 3 damage. Is the monster dead if neither of the attacks ignored the shield?

    • @LearntoPlayGames
      @LearntoPlayGames  5 років тому +3

      Thanks for watching and for the question. I play and remember it being explained to me by one of the Steamforged developers is that you will reduce each attack that does not bypass shields by that value so in your example both attacks would fail to wound that monster. It is critical to attack matching the monster's weakness. hope this clears it up for you.

    Very good guide, but in my opinion there is so many bad explanations in guide it makes game confusing. When you play it in single player it´s good idea to play for 2 characters, because with 1 only game is so punishing i.e. each normal enemy hit yuo everytime and you can´t hit them from everywhere, so small amount of weapons with low damage even for knight no way... bosses can jump between attacks and push you to sides that you are not able to withstand that. In two players there is usually harder or extra enemy only and bosses (like vordt) has +1 health only and you can plan how to attack him... like the game but for single player it´s not very well balanced.
    Or I´m doing something wrong, because lot of people writing game is soloable..... but if yuo look that vordt has10 life points min.... and basically yu have few weapons only.... even if you use 2 bonfires and get few better equipment you will loose. Played 3 games and everytime finished on vordt, once I was lucky and he was only 1 HP left..... :)
    Can normal treasure pack be modified in same way as players pack? so you can choose what you want in them? if yes even solo will be playable probably but read rules twice and nothing about it...

    • @LearntoPlayGames
      @LearntoPlayGames  3 роки тому +1

      @@LearntoPlayGames Hi, thanks for reply :). Yeah with two character in solo mode it will be playable...with just one character it´s real hardcore :) try that at least once....you can modified your main deck as well so there is possible to do the same with treasure deck... with one just one player it has no idea to getting only spells with knight :)

      I found it easier to play solo. At 4 there is somehow 4 times more chance that a character will die. In terms of weaknesses, it is clear that it remains complicated, if you come across an enemy with an armor of 3 who has a weakness that you do not have, you have been unlucky. But overall, solo I find it easier I won 9 of my last games, but I prefer to play with 2 characters in terms of playing pleasure !!

  • @IvanSensei88
    @IvanSensei88 4 роки тому +4

    I think the game is somewhat poorly designed, mainly in that life deck area.
    All cards that go into your discard pile is basically damage. So if a monster is attacking you for 2 damage, and you spend 2 stamina to block it... you literally took 2 damage to prevent 2 damage.
    Or even worse, when you spend the equipment+stamina to perform a dodge... you took 2 damage to dodge an attack, thus completely eliminating the purpose of a dodge.
    Then when you attack, and you spend like 3 stamina to do 2 damage.. you just took 3 damage to deal 2 damage.
    Not to mention how this completely misses the theme of the actual video game, where taking damage is something you want to avoid at all costs. But here, attacking, blocking, item usage, and even dodge rolling deals damage to you.
    This is why we houseruled the game, where you get a smaller deck, BUT have two different discard piles... the 'used' and 'damage' discard pile. Cards that you use to attack, defend, pay costs go in the 'used' pile that when the deck runs out gets reshuffled to form a new draw deck, and whenever you take damage from monsters, you send those cards in the 'damage' pile. They cannot be retrieved normally, and require a usage of a healing item to get back. With a few more minor tweaks to keep the difficulty.

      I understand what you mean, I created a PvP mode, and I realized that, you lose 3hp, to inflict 2 damage on the opposing character, I also reworked some details. On the other hand, for the exploration mode, I find it of little use to change the battle system, since the damage, the hp, are not proportional with ours, they are different damage, different lives. It is normal to lose strength in a fight for example. Our characters use their lives and their weapons to defeat dangerous adversaries.
