You are ONLY allowed to start on ENTRY NODES, not terrain nodes as well. an entry node is a BASIC NODE along the DOORWAY. You don't block magic attacks, you resist them. There are block, resist, and dodge dice rolling types. This terminology is important. For example if you look at the Knight's heroic action. The heroic action only works for Block dice rolls, not Resist dice rolls. The word roll can be confusing. Roll means: rolling of the di or dice, not the same as dodge. Basically: Characters Block roll Physical attacks and Resist roll Magical attacks OR you can Dodge roll Any attack. Enemies that do Move Attacks DO NOT move characters on the beginning node, only nodes the enemy moves into. Enemies that do Move Pushes however, Do push characters put of beginning node. Bleed token is removed once the target suffers the additional bleed damage. Traps are reset after encounters. If you are on the same node as a trap nothing happens. You must walk into them so the trap activates. There are also more rules for the campaigne mode. Luck tokens can Not be used for Resist rolls.
I've played all the souls borne games, and this sounds amazing, and surprisingly exactly like the game. Thats so wild and impressive. I wanna get this so bad
@Kevin Candelario what mean once per spark after making a block roll the knight may roll an additional blue die and add it to the roll, specially "spark" here?
I just got one board game and I love it ! About the dodge rule I may be wrong but there is something you forgot to mention : when the player dodge he may choose to move to an adjacent node whenever he succeed the roll dice OR missed it. It is not mendatory to move out from your node once you succed your dodge, which is a plus when you have the assassin in order to backstab with 0 range weapon when being on the same node at the dodged ennemy. Tell me what you think about it. High quality video I appreciated it !
Yes, the "free" movement is allowed, at the player's option, regardless of whether the dodge is successful. The Assassin's heroic action is one example of when you would choose to stay on the node with the enemy.
This video (and all the related videos to go with it) have been an absolute boon. I have been referring back to this one for clarification on most rules and while preparing to play it for the first time with friends. With the Monster Hunter World Board Game now shipping, and with every different weapon playing with a relatively different deck and set of rules, I hope you will do a series on that as well! EDIT: LMAO nevermind, I see you have already, which I would have noticed if I had subscribed from the beggining, so Im gonna do that now.
Just gonna refer to all your guides when I can't remember or don't understand something cause these are concise, but still extremely informative. Considering I just started collecting these expansions I'm gonna be using these a lot I feel like lol

Hi, regarding the miniature painting, we have video tutorials on how to paint and colors to use for every single miniature :) for the sleeves we use Mayday Premium. Cheers
Im still confused about two things. 1. The attack wheel for bosses. I understand that if you attack a bosses's arc that was red in their last attack, you get an extra die. For the green arcs, they attack all nodes in the arcs that are green, but what if the character they are targetting is not in a green arc? Does that character still get attacked? And then what happens in black arcs? What if there are no green arcs on the attack? 2. If an enemy data card has only a damaging push movement, and no attack and you are on the same node when they start their movement. Do you just take no damage? For example the big axe hollow. If you just stay on the same node as them can you just not be damaged cause they cant move towards you?
hi. i got a seriously complicated question we cant find an answer for. if an enemy stand on the same node as a player, does the enemy HAVE to move before he attacks? that would mean enemies that have to move first if they could instead gank a player.
Hi, when an enemy model is moving towards a character it will stop on the same node as the character so if their are already there, they will not move and just attack. Cheers
@@TabletopDuo aight, thought so. just unsure because move was declared to be before the attack and we couldnt find a keyword like "may". thanks for tha fast reply
Hi, in this case the damage is dealt to the nearest target within the abilities range - this is represented by the ring next to the damage icon. If there are no targets within range of this attack then no one receives damage. Cheers
I have tried to play it myself and with others. I have a hard time getting level without needing to “farm” by sleeping at the camp and loosing one dial of the fire. Is this the way it is meant to be? Since one round is not enough souls to win the miniboss encounter
Hi! Yes, thats how they planned the base game. You have to grind for a few sparks before attempting a boss. You can also use a house rule where you decrease the number of starting sparks by half and double the amount of souls you get per encounter. You might still need to grind but less. Cheers!
Hi, finally got the game yesterday and I am having a blast :D Could you tell me what quality card sleeves you recommend buying for the small and large cards so that they stay healthy?
Hi, we would recommend Mayday Games Premium. For Mayday the large cards you can go with 63.5x88mm and for the small you can go with 41x63mm. You can also go with Fantasy Flight Gray ---> Standard card And Yellow ---> Mini USA. We always use premium as the plastic is thicker. Cheers and enjoy your game!
Hello, thank you so much for the great explanation! We just got the game recently but had some small doubts, like what exactly is the reason for having barrels on the map, do they just make you waste 1 stamina or do they have any other effects on the board?
Ya, if memory serves correctly, it is confusing because the rules say to “shuffle in the heat up card” but then the dancer boss card says that shuffling it’s behavior deck is its gimmick. I think the intent for most bosses was to place the heat up card in the behavior deck randomly, but keep the rest of the cards in order.
Hey! I just got this game today and was playing with a friend. We were confused on why there are three item slots for both he left and right and three for backup. Can you have multiple weapons/items equipped and use them all in a single character activation? Or do you only have one item actively used in each hand (assuming one handed) and you have to swap with backup to use another one???
Hi, you can only use one item on each hand - assuming both are one handed. so if you have two equipped swords - left and right - you attack twice. The backup slot allows you to have anothet weapon/shield that you can swap according to the rules stated in the video. The backup slot looks like it supports 3 items but in fact that visual is just to state that if the item there has upgrades, they go too. Let me know if you still have questions. Cheers

I just want to know, which unfortunately neither the rulebook nor the video mentions, that if an opponent is standing on the same node as the player (he doesn't have the agro token) and the monster's card says to move towards the agro target and then attack, does he ignore the player standing on the same node as him and move towards the agro, or is this invalid and does he still attack the character standing on the same field as him automatically without moving?
Hi, they will follow the target described on the attack or movement, so there will be cases where they wont attack a character in the same node. Cheers!
When defeating the mini boss(not in campaign) do I get to flip my tokens upgrade and buy treasure when I reset without using a spark? Or is it just a player reset for the sake of creating a new map
In the rulebook they dont mention gaining a free pass to the bonfire/blacksmith Andre when you kill the mini boss so you will have to spend a spark to do so. Cheers!
@@TabletopDuo incorrect - page 15, when the players set up the tiles again after defeating a mini boss, place the characters on the bonfire tile. They rest at the bonfire (without using a spark) before continuing their journey.
Could I ask, Why the Titanite demon is considered a miniboss yet on his card it has the main boss icon? For your mini boss example you use the mini boss tile but the icon doesn't match the titanite demons icon on your card. I looked in the rulebook and it says it's a mini boss and in the books picture it has the mini boss icon on the card shown. Is this just a misprint? I also wanted to ask if an enemy moves twice to the nearest character, but reaches that player after only 1 movement. Does it then just stay still on that tile as it is touching the nearest character? Other than that you video was extremely helpful. Thanks a lot!
Hi, the icon on the board is a generic mini-boss icon. So when you see that icon, you can use any mini boss from the game to play against. On the newest versions of the game (called core sets), the board does come with the actual mini/main boss icon. Cheers!
oMg where did use get those card protectors ? I need them on my life . i meant as far as aI know we need to take care of keeping the game stuff on the best conditions ! please let us know :)
Hi Jason, we have done a video about that following the Gencon announcement they made last year. They were supposed to have more news this year but nothing so far. I will post a video as soon as I have an update. Cheers
So in reference to the boss arcs indicated on the boss behavior cards. When referencing a card, how do you determine which arc is the forward facing arc? Is the top most arc displayed on the card always the bosses forward? Or is the top of the circle referencing the arc behind the boss?
@@TabletopDuo right, so 8 souls for finishing a room. Just asking because you said you got twelve for finishing a room and I wanted to know how to get twelve souls.
For non boss encounters its 2 per player - so 8 for 4 players. For boss encounters its 1 soul per player per remaining spark. So then if you have 3 sparks and 4 players, that would be 12 souls. Cheers!
Hi, I see what you mean now. Yes you could only get 8 (2 sparks x 4 players). Unless you are playing a campaign and you got extra sparks by killing a mini boss prior to fighting another boss. Cheers!
I'm curious, since I couldn't find it anywhere. Does defeating the miniboss reset your sparks at the bonfire? Does it just give you a free bonfire use? Or do you carry over with the exact same hp/stamina that you had at the end of the miniboss
When you defeat a mini boss you automatically go to the bonfire for free and you gain one spark. All hp and stamina is reset after the mini boss encounter, just like its reset after each encounter
@@TabletopDuo one last question, let's say I play solo and I don't use the bonfire but defeat the miniboss, would I now have 6 sparks or does it not go above cap
Hi, yes, unless besides having the closest or character with aggro, it also has the node icon (which would mean hitting everyone inside the node of the closest or character with aggro). Cheers!
@@TabletopDuo thanks, so for example: the sentinal don't walk & push when there is already an character in 1 range (the halberd needs 1 range to hit) and only attacks with 6 physical damage and skips the walk part.
Hi there, I am thinking about buying this game. As you have an extensive amount of experience with this game would you say that it is playable with the original rules? I don't mind learning rules and I love the Souls Series but I noticed that many people said they would need house rules in order to play that game properly. Are house rules needed in your opinion at all? (I don't wanna make it easier or less grindy/punishing if that is the sole reason that people decided using house rules)
Hi Maximus, you can play the game without house rules. It will be fine. There are two issues you will find when playing which will be related to the loot and the souls you gather. But you will enjoy it :) cheers
Does bleed & poison deal damage without the damage resistance of the enemy? Otherwise every enemy with 1 or higher damage resistance never lose health by poison.
@@TabletopDuo so in you're experience: is beating the four encounters once enough to have a chance to beat the mini bosses? Or do you need to grind more like in the games?
Hello, I apologize in advance for my bad English but I'm not a native speaker, I'm about to buy the game and I heard that there are cards to buy to add content or have different moves, is it true? In case are they available online? Where I live I don't think anyone sells them

Hi, the icon on the board is a generic mini-boss icon. So when you see that icon, you can use any mini boss from the game to play against. On the newest versions of the game (called core sets), the board does come with the actual mini/main boss icon. Cheers!
Where did you get this set with all these pieces?
oMg where did use get those card protectors ? I need them on my life . i meant as far as aI know we need to take care of keeping the game stuff on the best conditions ! please let us know :)
Does anybody know if they are going to put out any more expansions?
Hi Jason, we have done a video about that following the Gencon announcement they made last year. They were supposed to have more news this year but nothing so far. I will post a video as soon as I have an update. Cheers
Your explanations are great!
Can you do star wars rebellion?
Good idea! I can’t promisse a date but we will look into making one. Cheers
What do you do with the blue treasure cards
Where did you buy the cards protectors?
So in reference to the boss arcs indicated on the boss behavior cards. When referencing a card, how do you determine which arc is the forward facing arc? Is the top most arc displayed on the card always the bosses forward? Or is the top of the circle referencing the arc behind the boss?
Hi, the top is aleays the boss forward arc. Cheers!
After you defeat the mini boss and move to the main boss you do not reset or gain any sparks back on the bonfire?
Hi, yes you do. Cheers
How did you get three sparks with 4 characters should be 8 max right?
Hi, if you play a 4 player game the dial should be set to 2 sparks. Cheers!
Cheers!
@@TabletopDuo not trying to drag this out but how do I get 3 sparks with four players
@@TabletopDuo oh man I must have been playing hard mode lmao I wasn't regenerating hp and Stam after fights
@@TabletopDuo one last question, let's say I play solo and I don't use the bonfire but defeat the miniboss, would I now have 6 sparks or does it not go above cap
are the "class specific equipment" only wearable by those specific classes, or just the person with the stats to wear it?
Hello, only by the specific classes. Cheers
30:25 So in this example it deals damage to one character normally?
Hi, yes, unless besides having the closest or character with aggro, it also has the node icon (which would mean hitting everyone inside the node of the closest or character with aggro). Cheers!
I looked up outta curiosity, what a complex game
did you paint your figurines?
Does anyone know where to get some sleeves for the small equipment cards?
Hi, you can find them on amazon. The size can be found on our dark souls unboxing videos. Cheers
Does enemies always do their movement? Or do they just attack when you are in range? Without the movement.
Hi, if you are in range they will just attack. Cheers
@@TabletopDuo thanks, so for example: the sentinal don't walk & push when there is already an character in 1 range (the halberd needs 1 range to hit) and only attacks with 6 physical damage and skips the walk part.
Hi there,
I am thinking about buying this game.
@@TabletopDuo Thanks for your answer, appreciate it. In the meantime I have already decided to get it for Christmas :D
Does bleed & poison deal damage without the damage resistance of the enemy? Otherwise every enemy with 1 or higher damage resistance never lose health by poison.
Hi, yes they deal damage that bypasses the damage resistance. Cheers
@@TabletopDuo thank you! I'm binging Al Nick's DS video's atm so maybe I have some questions later !
Thank you
What sleeves do you use for the small cards?
Hi, mayday games - 41mm x 63mm
nice video:)
So when you reset at the bonfire, are all the 4 encounters mandatory to get to the boss? Even if you already bested some encounters before the reset?
Hi, you dont necessarely has to fight all of them again to fight the boss. You can fight only the ones on the path to the boss. Cheers
@@TabletopDuo so in you're experience: is beating the four encounters once enough to have a chance to beat the mini bosses? Or do you need to grind more like in the games?
I would recommend grinding a little bit more so at least 2 characters have better gear.
@@TabletopDuo when you dial wield weapons can you attack twice (one time per weapon in hand) in your turn?
So if I understand this correctly if one player dies everyone dies. Is this right?
Yes!
Hello, I apologize in advance for my bad English but I'm not a native speaker, I'm about to buy the game and I heard that there are cards to buy to add content or have different moves, is it true? In case are they available online? Where I live I don't think anyone sells them
Hi, there are several expansions for the game which adds new bosses, treasures, enemies, etc. You can find all the expansion review in our channel. If you are looking for online content, you can check here drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/18h2AxaB9zGuKLg7OaPlUieQCkInZj2oA?usp=sharing
