Price has nothing to do with quality. This is by design, an American made Glock 19 copy. It’s a high quality, low cost combat pistols designed for self defence. Stop crying and start buying! You can mod the trigger for free if you have any knowledge in gunsmithing! Yep free!

I got a very good deal on my SD40VE so I couldn't pass it up. I will eventually get the SD9VE also. For the price these are great pistols. First range session with my SD40VE and I was pleasantly surprised. Good accuracy from this pistol and it feeds any ammo I toss at it. By the way, it was the Sigma that S&W got sued over, not the SDVE series.

  • @HalfBreedMix

Quick FYI : According to some of the feedback from S&W to people on the forums, putting in a METAL guide rod spring assembly will mess up your gun. Supposedly, the gun is meant to have some flexing of that plastic rod,,,,,, and a no flex metal pole will eat at your frame. S&W also claimed they know what the damage from the metal rods looks like, and won't fix your gun under warranty if they see it. + + this is what was claimed on the forum, I can't say I heard it first-hand from the rep,,,,,,,,,so you decide how to take the warning + +

Honestly it’s probably worth saving up the extra money to get a m&p 2.0 or to just buy one used. That being said the sd9 was my first gun and I wouldn’t have done anything different. I very much enjoy how customizable it is and I’ve really improved it and made it my own. Definitely one of my favorites. That being said I also own a M&p shield and have shot my buddies full size m&p and there’s no denying that they are just a little bit better made guns. But the Sd9/40 is no slouch by any means. If it’s all you can afford then by all means go for it, it’s a great little gun.

It’s the precursor to the M&P. If smith never got sued you would be rocking this gun singing it’s praises. The fact S&W other guns have the same frame designed speak volumes to “the lesser design” argument.

The SD9 and SD40 are awesome buys if you can find them under $400. Definitely very Glock-like. I have the SD40 (non-VE) that came with a black slide and fiber optic sights from the factory. The trigger was unpleasant for me, so I did the Apex spring and trigger upgrade. As it is now, I'd definitely take it over a stock Glock 22 or 23.

They didn't get sued over the SD9VE, the SD series pistols were made to replace Sigma the (SW9VE) it was The Sigma series pistols that were so similar to the competing Glock pistols that Glock sued Smith & Wesson for patent infringement. The case was settled out of court in 1997, with S&W agreeing to make alterations to the Sigma design and pay an undisclosed amount to Glock, the SD9VE is a hybrid of the SW9VE (sigma) and the SD9, hence the name too is a mix of the two series the SW9VE Sigma and the SD9 (SD9)(VE), it's basically a third generation Sigma

Couple of corrections: Glocks do not come standard with metal guide rod assemblies, they come with polymer guide rods, just like the SD9VE, which many owners chose to upgrade to stainless steel guide rods. Same for the sights - both come with polymer sights from the factory, with the SD9VE having traditional 3 dot sights, while the Glock has that weird U-notch arrangement

Good review overall but you have some fact wrong. The Glock lawsuit was not over the SD9VE or SD40VE model pistols. It was over the SW40F and SW9F the original Sigma series of gun. Those were replaced by the SW9VE and SD40VE this are the second generation Sigma. Up to that point S&W was paying Glock some money for each gun sold. The SD9VE and SD40VE replaced the Sigma series ending the Glock lawsuit payments. The SD9VE and SD40VE are great budget guns with great S&W warranty. They are the best gun in that budget category .

The Taurus G3 is the same size and comes with a 17 round mag. I have never had a problem and the G3 as well as the G2C are both very accurate. Because I don't own a SD9 or 40VE I can't speak to it's accuracy or reliability. However, I do feel that Taurus makes great pistols and will probably buy others in the future. My TX22 has one of the best triggers I have ever used. Thanks for the review and I may sneak in a S&W SD40VE at some point 👍.

Funny u mention the G3 because I have been trying to add one of those to my collection for about a year and haven't been able to find one. It seems like Taurus had problems with reliability in the past and completely resolved those issues for the g2c and g3. I've seen crazy torture tests of both and the Taurus just keeps working perfectly. Great pistols from what I've heard, and great price point. Good comment!!

Great video. However, I would be quite hesitant to put a gun without a safety in a holster aimed at my weiner. I'm one of those guys that's a firm believer in the Murphys law...

I understand what you're saying. But I personally wouldn't trust a thumb safety, and I don't carry with a round chambered unless there is a threat in sight. So that eliminates the fear of shooting my Weiner off

With the 10 pound trigger, your more safe than carrying any other stryker fired pistol.

This gun is now $430 how is it compared to a Glock with a new price like that.

That makes it a tougher decision. I don't think this gun is lesser quality, I think it looks better, it's American made (if that makes a difference to you) I would still get it over a Glock to save a couple hundred bucks

Glock has plastic sites... Buy the M&P instead. You wont be disappointed.

$12 per gun allegedly to Glock. My 9 I have affectionately named the Glock a like!

I got this gun in 9mm for $200 on a rebate purchase just for shi*ts and giggles to see what its about, and then after shooting it I was shocked how much better I shot with it then I did with my other guns including Glocks and I own 16 Glocks. Over 1000's of rounds later not 1 hicup. I love the SD and I will never part with it. Good purchase Micah. And here's a great video on the 40 cal I know u will enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/LTTDgZZZFa0/v-deo.html
