Bugera V5 Infinium original speaker vs Celestion eight 4 Ohm

- Comparing the Turbosound with a Celestion speaker. Also trying a Tung-Sol 12AX7 ECC803S. I did this at the 0.1 Watt setting which means the tone is compromised. In my opinion, even a 1 watt amp is too loud in my home. I don't like ruining my ears with 80dB +. There are better attenuation options than what's in the Bugera.
Playing a nineties Fernandes vintage strat. Recording with a AKG D40 instrument microphone. No processing has been done to the audio
Hello Again. Remember me? The guy with the Marshall DSL1. Well I just bought the Bugera Vintage 5 and really like it. Thanks for the review.
Great vid! I did almost the exact same thing about a year ago. I have the same speaker in there with a Groove Tubes 12AX7 in the preamp section. Great little amp after the upgrades! I've heard they sound killer through a 1 or 2x12 cab... that's my next project for this amp!
I just made the change to the same speaker and you’re right - it’s a great improvement straight away. Thanks!
Great! Have fun with your 'new'amp!
After changing the speaker a few months ago as you did, I’ve just put in a Genalex gold pin ecc83/b759 and a Genalex n709/el84: fantastic results!
A little Sabbath at the end, nice! Just got this amp and I'm doing the same. I also run it through a 4-12 cab and I love the amp. Upgrading it will make a great improvement. Thank you!
I have the Bugera v5 and it's plugged into a 1x12 celestion G12 V Type cabinet, sounds sweet.
Great little amp, especially for my less-experienced ears, but I can definitely tell an improvement with the changes you made. Mine is on the way. These will be good upgrades. Thanks!
The tubes and speakers are PERFECT!!!!!!!! Just hook your iPod to it, turn it on and let it play music for a week straight at low volume.
NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, YOU DIDN'T BREAK IT IN.
I did break it in. I played music through it for a while (2020 so an android phone, not some overpriced apple thingy), and I had been playing the amp /speaker for half a year. Still found the speaker rubbish!
Funny thing, taste....
I can't really say the celestion is better than de the Bugera, for my ears, both sounds great.
I got one with a bright mod and that did marvels to the amp
What's the bright mod?
@@NDWoj basically makes it sound more like a blues Jr at least to my ears. Sounds way less dark
@@Reyvil777 Have Googles and seen mods for the V5, but not the Infinium. Will search..thanks.
@@NDWoj sorry I wish I had more info, i got it on a trade but it does wonders with the tone of the amp. I donated it to a friend and he always used the bright mod on
Thanks for sharing your experiment -
i would say speaker is bigger difference -‘
Hi! Have you tried the JOYO JTA05? I like the Bugera but I am afraid that I might like to spend some more money in a VOX AC4C1, what do you think?
I haven't tried those. I wanted an amp with master volume and an attenuator. 5 watts is still too loud if you have thin walls. I can play it at night and still use the tube crunch without getting complaints.
Vox has a very specific tone so if that's what your after, go for it. I wanted an allround amp so chose the Bugera because it had everything and was cheap. I got a discount because it was returned to the shop for obvious reasons.
You can get the head and a separate speaker cab maybe that's a good option.
@@lennerttech6768 Thanks for the fast response! Take care!
I am wondering to buy the Bugera and upgrading .. does the speaker need to be 4 ohm?
No it doesn't have to be 4 Ohm. You can go 8 or 16 ohm. I would go for 8 because you can use an 8 ohm speaker for a lot of other amps. You can also check out the Jensen CR8. That's also a great speaker.
The Celestion may be a bit brighter but the original speaker seems to be rounder. It's a matter of taste, I think one can't really say one is "better" than the other.
By the way, a question about this amp: Do you ever use the attenuated sounds - 1 W and 0,1 W? Do you think the amp sounds any good with them?
you lose headroom, clarity and articulation by using only 0.1, like he did... try using at least 1w first before buying new speakers, EQ pedals and whatnot.
@@noelstemple I agree, 1 W is definitely usable at home, maybe not fully cranked but at least half cranked. Even 5 W can be used somewhat and one can use pedals to control the volume too.
I use the 0.1 w. It's a practice amp after all and I Don't want to bother my neighbors so much. This 5w is loud
What speaker did yours have originally? Mine has a Burgundy colored speaker
A blue Turbosound ts-8g120a4
@@lennerttech6768 thanks bud
What is that green guitar in the back?
Jack&Danny JM10 SFG based on a Fender jazzmaster shape but with strat like hardware
Nice video, but although I have very good DAC and headphones, UA-cam prevents me to hear a serious quality of sound. So, to me both versions, although different, sound nice to my ears.
You state that the original speaker is not good... Did you do a serious break-in before making this judgement?
IMHO testing a 8" speaker with 0.1 Watt is not the best way to do an evaluation.
You are right about the 0.1 watt testing, not ideal. But a lot of people just want to crank a tube amp without disturbing the neighbors. That's why I did it like this.
I did break-in the speaker before I decided to replace it. I've learned a lot since this video about how to get an acceptable tone at low levels but they're all diy solutions. A reactive attenuator, micro amp, post phase inverter master volume etc. Probably do another video about that.
The original speaker seems to have a lot more bass to my ears?
I think you're right and it's why I sold the amp. The original speaker was too muddy, the celestion sounded great but lacked some bass. But in a mix with other instruments it' s probably fine.
I really preferred the Celestion over the original speaker. The one knob EQ wasn't giving me the sound I want. Maybe the Jensen CR8 is better but I can't compare them anymore. I really like the Jensen with my micro champ.
Hi. Specifically which model Celestion did you use? Thanks
It's in the title: the celestion eight (15) 4 ohm version (there's also an 8 and 16 ohm version)
The amp in original is a great amp...
Yes, well it's a fine amp. I think a speaker upgrade makes it better. I've sold the amp and don't regret it.
It blows my mind that they would put such a trash speaker after such a nice little amp. I swapped to an eminence 802h. I even built a 2x8 for two of the turbosounds 8s- still sounds like crap. Tube upgrades help brighten things up but origs are ‘ok’ - but that speaker 🤦♂️
The WGS G8C is really nice
Dang could have been a killer review. Too much going on.
The original speaker was better. Much better.
Strange.
Just a matter of taste, then. I know I'm not alone in my opinion about the original speaker,so..
@@lennerttech6768 Yeah, of course, it is almost always a matter of taste.
Especially when it comes to guitar "flavours".
There is probably a "more objective" best, but that does not count for much when it comes to these matters.
"Wrong" could be more "right", and vice versa.
There is no wrong. What matters is your personal opinion.
ps: what intrigued me personally is that the bugera stocker speakers seems to do really, really well. In different applications.
I have been "listening" eagerly for "my" personal tone in countless speakers. Got some celestion and eminence and are wondering if a bugera (V22) combo would be worth it, or if i should go with whats proven in battle, head + other driver/cab.
But i cant see any obvious flaws, and the combo is not many dineros extra. Im torn here.
Leaning towards head+cab. But i actually can see some value in some of those bugera drivers.
That is what i thought was "strange" :)
(considering the competition and price/performance)
@@R.Stridstrom I wanted a versatile amp. From sparkly funk&surf via creamy blues tones to dark Sabbath tones. The original speaker really had issues with the sparkly sounds. There's only one tone control on the v5, the v22 has more EQ options abd a 12 inch speaker so that's totally different.
A combo is more compact and easy to move. I'd base my choice on that. You can always change the speaker.
@@lennerttech6768 Yeah, it is not an easy task even with 12" to get it all, and with fever options to shape tone so, yeah.
@@lennerttech6768 try an Eq pedal..really changes the game..(Mxr Blue 6-10 band with AC plug in, in destructible and so versatile) Good luck
Please dont bend.
What isthe point of testing an amp with a pedal pedal !! Lets hear the amp.
Only some parts are with a pedal. Most of the video is just the amp.
Nah. Original is much better. Much richer and fuller. Celestion sounds too bright and brittle.
