    This is an unboxing video of my new Bugera Vintage V5 Infinium Tube Amplifier. This amplifier is a single 8" speaker 5-watt combo with some great cleans reminiscent of the sound of tweed and Fender amps. Bugera is made by Behringer for those who don't know but the look and feel of the Bugera range is a lot nicer than the cheaper Behringer amps.

    sounds better than I was expecting. i think that with an 8 inch speaker, just having one tone knob is all you really need anyhow, so with that plus a reverb i think its a pretty good practice/studio amp.

    GOOD score Shane, I had 1, and sold it after i got my Blackstar HT5. A move I TOTALLY regret!
    But this is based on a VOX AC4 circuit!
    IDK why they made it with the INFINIUM module when it was Class A anyway.
    GREAT little amp! Loud for 5W also!
    However, I found the speaker a bit dark sounding. Sounded TONS better thru my Lorantz 12" 75W speaker.
    HAD I kept mine, I would have replaced it with a Lorantz 8 or 10" speaker.
    Maybe the Turbosound speaker might be better than the old Bugera marked speakers.
    I gigged with mine!

    • @Cheguebuddha
      @Cheguebuddha 7 років тому +1

      The earlier V5 version had the Red Turbosound which apparently was too dark so in this Infinium they have the Blue Turbosound which I find sound awesome. Sure I would love the Tone knob to go more into Treble but that I remedy with a EQ from another pedal I always use + Boost and man creamy territory here I come ;)

      That's WHAT they MIGHT have been replaced with AFTER Behringer bought Turbosound, but prior to that, all Bugera combos had Bugera, in house made speakers, made at the Behringer factory in China.

    When I got my V22 i sold my blues deluxe straight away. Never looked back, these things are grouse. Stock speaker is quite efficient. Replace the tubes for high quality ones though.

    • @cadaverkev
      @cadaverkev 7 років тому

      Did you notice much difference in tone with the re-tubing? I see most owners that replace the stock tubes see minimal improvement. They do say replacing the speaker really breaths a different life into it using , particularly, the Swampthang. I was thinking of replacing the stock el84's with the "high" rated Groove Tube el84's. I would like to use the V22 as a clean platform and the "high" rated GT's, I gather, saturate later than most other tubes.

    • @quantametric
      @quantametric 7 років тому

      CadaverKev
      I found amps respond slightly more to speakers and some respond a bit more to tubes. Ironically I had planned to put a Swampthang in my Blues Deluxe. The speaker in the V22 is already quite efficient. Though I feel if you were to upgrade it you may need something that matches the voicing. A Swamp Thang would probably give a dramatic increase in bass.. as the V22 is not particularly bassy. Personally the tubes I upgraded with were Russian made Mullards. I use the V22 as a clean platform aswell and it just loves getting pushed into break up with pedals.

    it's really unfortunate that internet snob/trolls keep repeating the "Bugera's aren't reliable" mantra like mindless sheep... they had a problem *with their very first run* of amplifiers which was IMMEDIATELY corrected. Many people who are capable of thinking for themselves tried out the amps and have found them to not only be a fantastic value, but they sound good and DO hold up over years of use. I myself owned a Bugwra 1990 head and would still own it to this day except that I moved from a big country house to a small city apartment halfway across the country.

    sounds pretty sweet, i think id prefer at least a 10 inch speaker but i guess you can always just plug in an external cab. ive played 5 watt tube heads through a 2x12 cab and it was more than loud enough for a quiet gig with a drummer. good stuff.

    First off o have to say great playing and great review
    Yes I’m looking for a little practice amp so I don’t have to always fire up the big high powered amps when I feel like playing for a 10 or 15 minute jam or just trying to practice some new chops at a lower volume.
    As this review was created a few years ago as in writing this in late November 2018,
    I’m not sure how outdated or if this amp is now outdated since this review was posted?
    But What I do know is this is exactly what I am looking for
    Something that is not at all expensive and something that sounds professional and right on parr with the best boutique handwired popular Amps lthat were all familiar of, and of coarse the tone we all chase! .
    This little amp does seem to deliver that tone.!
    it has that slight after Tube tone and easy to maintain class A self biasing (which is a bonus and very easy)
    it’s just a simple circuit that is so easy dialing up a tone.
    I am surprised at how well the reverb sounds on this amp!
    Anyways regardless of this amp is considered outdated, ,I think I am going to go for it .
    I would imagine since this review has been posted a few more amazing little practice amps have been designed ?
    Since I’m so out of the loop II would love for someone who is hip to what’s out there with great practice amps.
    C and someone that is basically up to date with all the gear coming out,
    I would welcome A reply and recommendation.
    Or even thoughts on where this bugera now stacks up almost 2and a half years later since this review has been posted here on UA-cam.?
    Once again Great playing and a fantastic Review! cheers!

      They've still got this exact amp for sale! I bought mine around June of last year (2018). Plus, just today I was looking around an online music store (Sweetwater), here in the States, and sure enough they're still selling this exact amp for $199.00. It's a great amp, does the job. It is heavy, but not a bad thing. It's a solid build, and very straightforward. And for only 5 watts, this baby is surprisingly LOUD!!! I was shocked how this tiny 5 watt amp can put out that much sound! So, yeah if you're looking for a clean sounding and reliable amp, this is a good one! I've not had any problems with it whatsoever. And I love the old school vintage look. You can't go wrong with this little beauty! 🎸

    Hi Shane, I would like to know if you are still using this amp for home practice and what do you think about it now since it's been almost 2 years of this video. Any problem with it? I am thinking in getting one for home use exclusively, so the fact of getting a decent tube sound at " neighbor friendly" volume is what makes this amp more attractive to me. I have had difficulties with home volume management with a Fender Blues Junior III that I had to return. Do you think it is a good option? I play mostly clean and with soft OD pedals. Thank's!!!!

      I added just one pedal, a Revv G4. Sounds great! I needed some distortion, I play a lot of Black Sabbath's songs, plus the pedal has overdrive. That's the only pedal I'd add to this amp though. I'd rather buy another amp with some built in effects on board. I'm thinking of getting either the new Fender Champ, or a 30 watt Marshall amp that has just the exact effects I want. I'm a bit leary about the Fender amp because it has lots of computer effects, and Bluetooth, and works with a phone app. He did a video of the Fender amp (can't recall the name), but he seemed to have mixed feelings about it. He did have nothing but good things to say about the Marshall 30 watt amp. LOL, I'll be going from a 5 watt to a 30 watt, and that 5 watt Bugerra is pretty loud, lol.

  • @hvince67
    @hvince67 6 років тому

    I was a bit surprised with your review Shane, although I respect it. My father has this amp and I always hated it. I can never get any tone out of it, it's too muddy and the headroom is non-existant. It's sold around the £200 mark in the uk, which is just cheaper that sh.. for a combo tube amp. If I look at the economics, it's not possible to build a combo tube amp that sounds any good at that price. You really have to use really cheap components, I'm wondering how much the speaker and transformers worth at that price range.

      LOL, I guess I'm the same way. I need more than just tone and reverb. It is a great amp. I just love hearing lots of effects. Right now I'm thinking of getting either a Fender 40 watt amp that has a ton of built in effects, and is Bluetooth. But, I'm worried something could go wrong with all the technical stuff. So, I'm also looking into a Marshall 30 watt that Shane did a review on. He did one on the Fender too, and had mixed feelings, like I do. I think I'm more into old school type amps. I'll probably go with the 30 watt Marshall, which has just enough built in effects to keep me happy. I guess that's why I originally bought the Bugerra, nice and straightforward, just wish had more effects. I don't like the idea of having to buy a bunch of pedals either.

      Not great, imo. Usable, but not enjoyable. Must be some kind of structural limitation on applying a headphone circuit to a tube amp??

      I think it sounds great. The only thing I don't like is that the plug for the headphones are on the back of the amp. Wish they'd put it on the front.

      @@upload2352 it just may be the type of headphones you're using? I've got 2 different pairs, one doesn't sound to good, but the other sounds great.

      @@izzy574 Sennheiser HD-202 - not a high end 'phone, but they're fine with my s/s amps. Tube amps need a load to function properly and the headphone isn't enough, so I believe that the headphone jack is an emulator that simulates a load in order to get a signal. That's why I though my sound wasn't great. I'll try a AKG.

I might mess about with the sturdy little fucker and change out the tubes and speaker for a Celestion or something...some guy who calls himself 'rat-amps' recommends some mods that he recons make this a lifetime keeper.

      I have a few, Mostly I use it with my Blackstar Celestion 10-30 Cab. 10 inch. I also have a Custom Pine baffled Cab with a Jensen 12" Lightning in it, as well as a 2 X 12 Bugera 140W VINTAGE Cab (not turbo). It sits perfectly on top of my Blackstar 10" Cab and is easy to move and carry.

    Out of interest I have a Quad VA One 4xEL84 power pentodes stereo hifi amp, in the instructions it states that the amp should be turned on and left for 15 minutes before use, as not doing so can seriously limit the lifespan of the valves

    it's really unfortunate that internet snob/trolls keep repeating the "Bugera's aren't reliable" mantra like mindless sheep... they had a problem *with their very first run* of amplifiers which was IMMEDIATELY corrected. Many people who are capable of thinking for themselves tried out the amps and have found them to not only be a fantastic value, but they sound good and DO hold up over years of use. I myself owned a Bugera 1990 head and would still own it to this day except that I moved from a big country house to a small city apartment halfway across the country.

      I've owned 2, a V55HD & the V5. The V55 WAS problematic, but Behringer fixed mine and came up with upgrades that went into the Mk2 models, (mine is the prototype). The V5 NEVER gave me 1 ounce of trouble.
      The V55 has 0 problems! Works every time!

      I have had a Bugera V5 (the old one, non infinium) since October 2012 without any problem. I'm super happy with this amp and don't want to continue owning it the rest of my life. Great tone, especially conected to an external 2x12 cab, pedals sound great in it and new it was as cheap as a solid state amp. I like the simplicity a lot, but I think it would be great if it had an effects loop, or maybe an extra pre-amp tube to get a little more gain.
