Says a lot about the American education system when foreigners know more about America than Americans do 😆
I'm from Spain and I even got the 1776 one. Damn...
@@GerSan1979 I always remember that one because I was born in 1976 200 years after 😆
I’m from the UK and can answer all of them, when she said people from outside the US couldn’t name all the states - yep I can no problem. They’re not high, just thick. Too reliant on technology to access information rather than learn and retain it themselves. Plus not interested in the right things, can name all a celebrity family but not know what a season is or how many dimes in a dollar or how many minutes in an hour! I despair for this world…..
@@SotonCueMan it doesn't help when they teach them America is great and the best at everything, they even get taught that America saved Europe in WW2 😆
@@davebirch1976 There are good arguments why that could actually be considered true.
As an Aussie I knew every single answer except for the names of the Kardashians
Same for me as a French...
USA education system definitely sucks!!!
Great job, both of you. The Kardashians are not important. Trust me. You don't need to start following them...
React to Harry Potter instead.....unless u already did. That's the great stuff....
as a brazilian... me too.
Same for me as well (from the UK). I was really shocked at the inability of these Gen Zed's to answer the simplest of questions.
The only question I wasn't able to answer was the dollar one. I'm from Italy. 🙃
The fact people can name every single Kardashian but not answer to "what continent are we on right now?" is honestly disturbing af.
We will forgive you as you are from Italia.
My dad was born in Michigan of Italian migrants-
So explain what the word Soldier means -
You should be able to answer that simple question.
Provide an accurate answer - and think before answering
@@andrew_koala2974 I'm French, and the "'sold" was the name of the soldiers' salary back to ancient Rome.
You didn't ask to me but, hey! I'm first :D
@@andrew_koala2974 At school I was taught it comes from "soldo" (in latin "solidus"), which is a form of retribution for soldiers' work. It was basically a coin. In fact, in Italian "soldo" is the singular form of "soldi", aka money. Then there was also the salary, which comes from salt (another form of retribution, very precious at that time).
Thank god ancient latin and ancient latin culture were mandatory in my scientific high school, so now I know the etymological meaning of many common words! 😅
@JackP98 Yes I think you were waaaay more precise than me in the explanation! 😅
Hey neighbour, I'm from Croatia (I know there is Slovenia in between but we do share the Adriatic). I agree with you, not only was this cringe to listen to but the schools in the US need actual education. The US needs more programmes with the EU to fund more exchanges and widen the horizons of these poor children.
This was a bit scary to watch. I'm a dane and these questions, is almost common knowledge here. Wow.. Thanks again Heidi for an eye opening video.
I even started thinking about Salt Lake City in Utah. And not even being able to do the tables in counting or math. We had to know all of them by memory here in Denmark, not to mention doing every form of math without the help of a computer or even a calculator. Sure. We could use pencil and paper so that we could fall back on already made interim calculations if we lost concentration along the way, but these people seem like they can't even time basic numbers, or divide them or anything. So either they are seriously screwed beyond my wildest fears in school, or they freeze up in the little gray cells if asked about it.
But then again. When they don't even know that Denmark is a country, WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY IN DENMARK on vacation (No, not you, Heidi), I must admit to a sense of despair when it comes to American education.
Irish person here, 50 stars and 13 stripes on the US flag. The stars represent the 50 states and the stripes represent the 13 original colonies. I always thought it common knowledge especially to the US people that pledge their allegiance to it like a cult
I was going to say... considering they're making a pledge to it every morning in school, how can they not know what their flag looks like?
More worrying is some of these will magically get good jobs in high powered positions.
Some by sheer luck, some due to diversity hiring
You shouldn't make fun of it. The way we treat our school system will soon be the same here in Europe.
The slowest and the stupidest set the pace. How many Europeans know how many stars the EU flag has? (small hint it is not 27)
@@Medley3000 Didn't mean to sound like I was making fun of it. But you do have to admit that pledging allegiance to a piece of fabric is just a bit much, but I wont talk about the matter much further, it doesn't effect me in any way so why should it matter? Oh the amount of stars on the EU flag is 12. You're right though, I don't think a lot of Europeans would know that, but we don't see the flag every day
@@CezTV When Americans pledge to their flag they are pledging to what it represents: it stands for each of their states, for their history, for their constitution. To Americans, it's more than a flag. Same as when the British sing "God save the King/Queen", we're praying for the protection and prosperity of our nation (as the King/Queen IS the nation). It's all on the meaning.
As for the European Union flag: that meant nothing to me even when Britain was a part of the Union. The Union Jack takes far more precedence for me, or the Welsh Flag above that. The big question is: do Gen Z Brits know what the Union Jack represents? Do Welsh know what the Ddrig Goch represents? I bet we'd have as bad a problem here as the Gen Zs are having over there.
Most reactors would make fun of those people, so I appreciate that Heidi is humble enough to admit that she doesn't know all the answers. What is quite obvious is that the school system in the US is terrible. When foreigners know more about US Geography, history, and politics, it's time to have a talk with those politicians who claim that the US is the greatest country on Earth.
I agree, of course it's a show. I judge people's intelligence by how their brain works, not what facts they know. If you can make logical conclusions, everything is supi. We Germans call that practical intelligence. Heidi obviously has more than enough of it.
@@kingofshit303 I agree regarding intelligence, but knowledge gives you the tools to use your intelligence effectively and responsibly. However, note the girl who couldn't answer how many miles you travel if you drive at 60 mph for one hour.
These were so extreme, I can't imagine these were the only people asked. It's a bit worst of the worst.
@@kingofshit303 to make logical conclusions you have to have facts, more facts and when you know more facts you realize that you need more facts because each problem can have 10 possible answers each with it particular issue/problem that has many more issues IF you have facts hence knowledge.
We can give many examples of 'FACTS" that are presented and accepted by the majority of people and when you get dapper in the issue you see that the accepted conclusion is more "point of view' than 'fact". I consider 'fact" something that is proven in a scientific way.
Heidi does know most of the answers and she's willing to learn, so there's that. And I'm also not sure if the foreigners (like me) are representative of their country (I'm not). But yeah, your educational system seems particularly bad.
its not a problem to be wrong, its a problem not to know that you were wrong
Well said!
or beeing proud over that you are wrong. I cant name all states in the US and place them all on a map without doing some heavy guessing (i probobly can dop the equalent sor sweden anymore - i could when i was in school and do i get a list i can most likley get them all correctly places - and i can no more name all the countries and placements of them in europe but i learned that before the fall of communism when basicly half was soviet union...) but i do know that i most likley wont get all right and the ones i would get wrong would most likley be in the right area atleast . its not like i would say belgium is in portugal....
Not knowing you are wrong is the definition of incompetence. But even incompetence can be overcome. One has to understand that you don't know anything about a subject, then start learning.
@@ronnyhansson8713 easy just count to ten hahaha
But that's not on them. How can you know (in the moment) you are wrong when the person asking you questions affirms every time that you were right? Most of them at least don't confidently spout bullshit, they seem aware that they are very unsure of their answers. I am sure it's not enough to do research, but at least they are not ignorant AND confident enough to tell a foreigner about their own country - as I have seen people do.
The most cringey part of them being quite clearly uneducated, is the arrogance that they genuinely think they're correct.
No Heidi, :) there is no excuses for an adult person not to know 3 countries by name in the world, none. :) I knew more things about the world when I was 7 then these as adults. " What language do people in Idaho speak" " Japan?" hhahhahahahahhhha ;) these people are comedians ;)
Mistaking Topography for History aswel LOL!
I'm from the UK and My 7 year old granddaughter could name more countries than that and I knew all but the Vice President but I’m not hot on politics here either , I learnt states and towns from American films mostly so how gen z ppl don’t, basics they should learn at school surely? Considering lots think USA is the only/ best place in the world you’d think they’d know something about it 😮
@@barbarajw1 If they would know sonething about the US they would not think that it is the best country in the world
There may be no excuse for not knowing basic things but there are explanations why someone might not be able to recall the knowledge. If you're watching videos like this one it seems easy but depending on the situation you might not be able to answers the same questions when you get stressed.
I'd probably think it's some kind of trick or joke if someone asked me simple questions out of context and I'd go with "I don't know" instead of an answer that is "too obvious". It's the same for questions that don't make sense to me like "What state is Utah in?"… I would've answered "I don't know" to that, too. (Giving some stupid answer could be just another strategy of saying "If you can't ask reasonable questions you won't get reasonable answers.")
"Idaho" actually does sound kinda like a Japanese word...
I'm from Finland and went to school in the 90's. Our geography teacher made us learn all the nations of the world and their capitals, one continent at a time. We had these tests where there would be a blank map with just the nation borders of a continent and you had to fill in the names. We did the US states and their capitals too at some point.
I think I could still name over 90% of the nations and have at least a general idea of which part of a continent it's located. Capitals I might not remember as well, but give me the name and I will probably remember where it is.
It's always surprising for me when people don't seem to have any idea about continents and nations. They are pretty easy to learn, there isn't that many really.
Surprisingly though I have a bit of uncertainty about the regions of Finland :D but that's just because we had some administrative changes in which area belongs to which city and region and in my life time there has been several of these changes, and one is quite recent. I could probably name them right on the map though. And I probably still remember the old dismantled provinces and their administrative capitals :D
You 90's kids got it easy. In the 80's we only got a blank paper and had to draw the map first ☝️

To put it in context. I’m from the UK and I’ve never been to America (either continent) and at their age I could reel off probably about twenty of the states (including Utah 😀) and as many or more other countries in the world. This was purely from what I learnt at school and having a world map in the bathroom for casual perusal. It is tragic that so many young adults are less intelligent than an average under ten in other countries. It is great to see so many, like yourself getting onto UA-cam and educating yourself about the world outside of the USA bubble.
A few years ago a similar UA-cam series of questions was shown in America-> Funnily enough the only person who answered all the questions correctly was a European ;)
Your english is so good, considering your first language is french!
@Susan Pearson. Intelligence has nothing to do with memorizing things you learned at school.
Intelligence and knowledge -> not the same thing.
Americans have generally been considered stupid throughout the years, but it seems this current generation has taken things to a whole new level of stoopid. Though to answer one of the questions, there has been 45 presidents of the US.
These answers are out of this world that Heidi started second guessing herself even the most basic questions and checking if she is right or not 😂. Who said stupidity is not contagious? 🤣
LOLOL I was seriously so mad at that! 🤣
How on earth can these people ever be employed? They dont even know the most basics of basics...its incredible...
Easy. They can be employed as the gender equality person in the company, or the social media manager or... you know... other 'useful' and 'productive' positions.
Yeah, imagine believing that their quarter of an hour work break is 25 minutes...
They work in strip bars, McDonalds and Hooters. They do not have to know anything.
They all believe the'll be famous youtubers or tiktokers later so don't bother
They can be employed as an example of an awful school system.
I am South African and I know that there are 50 stars on the American flag: one to represent each state. Good grief! I know the names of most American states and can name countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Australasia.
However, I went to school during the 1950s, so I'm a boomer. We got hammered if we didn't learn, unlike the powder puffs of today: as long as no blood was drawn and no bones were broken, we could be beaten until we screamed. We walked to school if we missed the bus: a few miles was nothing. At age 16 I could - and often did - cover forty miles a day on foot.
What IS the world coming to?
When she started to list Kardassians names without any hesitation i have never wanted to slap anybody in my life faster.

I'm from Finland and even in the 80's we learned these things in school. Don't think I could name all 50 states from memory anymore, but given a state name (or seeing one) can tell if it's state or not. Also the question "which state [state] is in" was a joke even back then. The answer being "The Unites States" of course.
This^
Same here and I'm from friggin Germany. What I have difficulties with is to name all the capitals of the states.
I'm from Belgium and knew all answers, except the dime and the Kardashians. Didn't learn any of it in school. But I do read the paper. Guess dimes aren't mentioned in papers, where they mostly talk about millions or billions of dollars.
I’m a 40 years old french guy and it really hurts to see that I know a way more than those young fellow. What do you learn in school in the US. Like come on , 3x3x3??? A 8 years old kid know that overhere
It is not just a lack of common knowledge. The worst thing is, the lack of being able to understand the questions.
Heidi reacting to this proves the point that the education is awful in the US. She didn't know the correct answer of even half of the questions herself.
Kind of scary that I as a Norwegian know most of these... and these guys can't answer most of them.
Though I'm assuming these are the rare ones that don't know anything outside their own tiny sphere.
Same for me and I'm danish...
Same here and I'm Dutch. Guess our education is not so focused on just our own country, more on the entire world.
Because it's in our news all the time and in our social media and general internet feeds. And we are a bit obsessed i guess. I am from germany. I could name several members of the US senate and house o.R. but none of the french parliment ones. Not even their foreign minister. Putin, Lavrow, Medvjedwhatshisname? are the only three russian politicians i know and that while the russians are quite important right now. I guess i can name 30-40 US states without much issue but not a single danish one, do they even have states? I don't even know how they are organised within the country. I know a few US governors, i could not name the leaders of the czech republic or slovakia. One is a dude and recently i think the slovakians had a woman as leader and i have no idea what her name is.
And i don't think i am alone with this. We know lots about the US, but when it comes to our direct neighbours, we are a bit ignorant aswell.
@@TheAlja Denmark doesn't have states, but regions.
@Gazer75 Same here, how is it possible that we in Europe learn about US and know more than "locals"...these videos are funny for us watching this across the pond, and super embarrassing for US guys.

watching this video made me feel physical pain.

In Poland, students in the 8th grade of primary school (14 years old) get to know and learn the geography of the United States. Including all 50 states and the District of Columbia and their capitals.
Thats because Poland hates Europe. At least the government.
art of the reason is that the European Education system is of a higher level
and there is discipline in schools.
The U.S. education system was drastically changed in 1970 - by order of the U.N.
it was deliberately done to dumb down the population - and a social experiment
in many ways that was later propagated to other countries.
Education is like hammering a nail into a piece of wood.
When it is hammered hard - both the nail and the knowledge will penetrate and stick
When the nail is thrown at the wall it will simply bounce off.
Thus knowledge is simply thrown at a student as some kind of casual offering -
will simply bounce off the head --
Learning requires effort and an investment in one's own time.
Rozumiesz ?
When you calculated 3x3x3 on your phone, I died inside for a moment... but the video is hilarious!
I'm a 75 year old Brit, so its a long time since I was at school too. Its no excuse. Learning should never stop when you leave school. That's when we really start to learn. Schools should be fostering a thirst for knowledge and give you the tools to learn more. Its obviously failed these young people. They are content and even proud to be ignorant and don't realise its a problem. Making excuses is not helping them in any way. As an average european I knew the answers to all of these questions and yes, its important to know these very simple, basic kinds of things because they are what we build on, and what keep your mind active and questioning. How else will you prevent the dire consequences of an ignorant and complacent society that thinks only of itself and fails to broaden it's mind. Can you see one of these people as your President in 20 or 30 yrs time? The sad thing is....I can.

Yes, thank you for realizing the true tragedy here. That they couldn't care less about not knowing much of anything, about anything. The combination of the demonization of intelligence over the preceding decades, and they way everyone asks their phone for answers to any questions they have, has basically ruined an entire generation of people.
I am a 60-year-old German, and I could answer any of these questions. Even the question about the dimes. Easily. But could I have answered these questions as a 20-year-old? Most of them, probably. And let's not forget: there are morons in every country, and the clip only shows the particularly stupid ones. How many other Gen-Zs could answer the question correctly, we don't know. I don't think the situation is all that bad, and besides, we may soon not care at all.

The most difficult for foreigners was probably the dime question since dimes are not used in most countries outside of the US, but I still knew that one.
The 3x3x3 isn't even a question of knowledge, which most other questions were. It's about thinking.
Your face at 11:38 , i cant 😆
And thanks so much for telling us you see a doctor soon, thats very reassuring, hope you get better soon.
Love from Germany ❤
I don't think that it is possible to be so high that you can't name three other countries whilst still being technically conscious.
I'm not even an American and I know that it's 50 states. It's basic knowledge.
Children pledge allegiance to the flag every day and not knowing how many stars the flag has, that goes far beyond stupidity.
Imagine aliens kidnapping these people from all who are there to learn from us and then end up having to explain to these people the geographic basics of their own planet they live on. 😖
Worse than ignorance is the fact that you have an educational system that doesn't encourage people to think.
I’d love a video of them being told the right answers! Great reaction - first despair then willing them on. PS. From UK, I knew them all except the dime one. Couldn’t remember if a dime was 10c or 5c…
They call it a dime because it starts with the letter "D", for "deci" as in 1 tenth.
It wouldn't go down well. The interviewer, Justin, tried that in another of these videos and it ended up with the girl arguing with him and refusing to accept that she was wrong.
just remember when some says nickel and dime. nickel 5 dime 10.
@@sopcannon @petar novakovich Thanks guys.
@@module79l28 Do you know which video that was, cuz many ppl talk about "why doesnt he tell them the right answer" and you are 1 of the 2 people I've noticed saying that they have tried that. Have read about 3-400 comments just to look for the answer ;-)
On every corner there’s that 🇺🇸 flag and they even don’t know what that flag represents? That’s a big shame! “The capitol of Chicago?” Utah is actually a very nice state if you like nature. 🌲
I'm not a fan of these videos because they are often used to make a certain group of people look bad/good and the answers are often cherry picked to only include wrong answers or answers that validate the interviewers point. That said, these wrong answers are so bad that it's still really sad to see lol
Like, I'm Swiss and the only one I got wrong was "How many US presidents has there been" and I was only wrong by 1, I thought it was 45 but it was 46 and then I remembered that Trump was 45th and corrected myself x)
Funny thing, theyre all very outgoing and wearing pride stuff but dont know the clock or the continent theyre on. Its like NPCs.
Its a crazy world we live in.
Well here in Germany the same kind of videos exist with Germans. And I´m 100% sure you will finde people like this in any other country, if you just search long enough for them. So actually videos like this one don´t say anything about education systems or a specific generation.
This is just entertaining. And it "helps" you to feel intelligent, because it makes you feel like you know so much more than those people.
I remember these TV Total clips..
The big question how long does it take to find people who give these "stupid" answers.
No you dont gonna find them everywhere.I was living in Switzerland for 22 years, cant remember such dumb People.Back in my Homecountry Serbia you can find some, but you have to search to some pampas villiges or some uneducated Gipsy's.

Honestly, I'm used to Americans having very little to no knowledge of anything beyond the borders of the US but to not know basic information about your own country is shocking.
I suddenly feel like a genius, there was exactly one question I didn't know. The Kardashians :D Most of the rest we learned in school decades ago.
any British kid aged 12 could answer ALL these questions, except the kardashians. My grandson is 7 years old. he answered all the maths and time questions.
It's very important to know substantial knowledge, and to know the answers to these questions, even if you don't need it in life, is crucial. Because, if you don't even know this basic stuff like the amount of stars on the flag (50 btw. one for each state), or when the USA was founded, imagine how bad you would be at more complicated stuff. Basic knowledge, like numbers and dates you need to remember, is the basis for your brain to work properly.
I am from Germany and knew every question right away and i'm far from an exception. I'd be really concerned...
Well, I admit it's kind of useless knowledge to know how many stars the flag has, that it has as many as states and that there are 50 of them. But it is an indicator that you sleepwalk through your life and have no interest for the world around you. All these people in the video must have been given this information one way or the other many many times in their life, they chose to ignore it, couldn't be bothered with it because it wasn't fun.
I'm British and I don't want to go down the bashing Americans route as ignorance can be found everywhere however I don't believe these people should be allowed to vote , I feel exactly the same about certain people in my country, I don't care what your political beliefs are but I really believe you should have to pass a certain standard before casting your vote when your vote has the potential to effect policy going forward. I know that some people will regard my position as somewhat Fascist however it is aligned with the position taken by Socrates who many people champion as the father of Democracy. Ps Sorry to get so serious but I believe that many of the problems we are experiencing are because of the ignorance of much of the public, especially the young.
I'm Gen Y, and this made my brain hurt. I've been to Utah several times so I know a decent amount about the state. I'm quite big on history, so I know exactly who fought in the Civil War. There are 50 states, but people get confused and say 52 because they think that Washington DC and Puerto Rico which are territories are actually states. The question that had me banging my head against the wall is that these people can't even name 3 countries outside of the US. I could name 5 easily while being asked on camera, but sitting here at my house, I easily named off 50 countries out of the 195 in the world. IMO most US citizens should be able to name off 30-40 countries, and it should be easy to name 5 countries such as Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, and China just based off of their size alone.
British guy here - I answered every one of those questions correctly yet I never went to college = left school at 16 and went straight into a job. The US education system is an embarrassment to the world :(
I live in the UK & I’m Gen Z and I Knew the answer to all the questions they are all so easy from British education system lol 😂
I'm Gen Z and from South Africa and even I could answer all these questions🤦♂️
This says a lot about the education system in the states when someone from a "developing" country could answer more questions about the US than US citizens🤦♂️
Things like knowing simple addition, how to tell the time, your currency etc are all extremely necessary skills that everyone needs to function in society, things every human needs to work, pay bills, buy groceries etc, so knowing some of this stuff is very important. If you can't tell the time you're not gonna be able to hold down a job, if you can't do basic maths or count money you're gonna have a hard time paying bills or buying groceries, filing taxes etc. There's so many reasons some of these questions are important to know.
Aren't these the most basic questions any child should learn in school ?
ye but they are just to busy shooting each other in schools over there, no time for learning in america
One might hope.
Forget school. I learned this stuff watching School House Rock between cartoons on Saturday morning.
"Who fought in the Civil War?"
The team led by Captain America fought the team led by Iron Man.
Funny fact: Your average American cannot pass the citizenship test we give to legal immigrants which they must pass to become American citizens.
they're not dumb, they are poorly educated. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
3 x 3 x 3 is mental arithmetic, certainly not mathematicS.
"We don't need no education - We don't need no thought control"
"Teachers, leave them kids alone - Hey! Teacher! Leave us kids alone!"
Lyrics taken from the song "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" written by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.
I didn't think Generation Z had appropriated this song, which was released in 1979, long before Generation Z.
Truly don’t understand how I as a European got ALL the answers correct, while Americans who should know most of it, fail miserably. I understand they obviously only show the failures but still.
One does not "need" to know most of these questions, but it shows to which level you walk the earth with open eyes.
I'm from Croatia. Croatia is a small country in Europe. Watching your videos, I realized that I know more about USA than people from USA.
Don't feel too bad ... This is a video for entertainment purposes - we really don't know how many correct but "unfunny" answers have been removed.
I read somewhere that he used to correct them, but then they'd argue with him, so he gave up and doesn't bother any more
Ooooo I could see that being the case. 😬 It seemed like a lot of these people weren't exactly sure, so it might have been safe to correct them, though. But who knows.
The only people in Serbia who can't name all 4 seasons are some (not all) Romani, whose parents kept them away from school. That's just inexcusable.
Did you just say there are 52 states in the US?
Our generation retained the knowledge learned in grade school.
It was mentally filed away with all the phone numbers and locker combinations that we had to memorize through repetition.
I love that one woman who couldn't name 3 other countries (Canada and New Mexico) but in the next question about the civil war says France lol.
They say that democracy requires a well educated and well informed population. Obviously they meant the ability to name all Kardashians....
The people shown lack basic knowledge and skills and worst still is that you want to make excuses for them. I would like to know how many people they asked that provided correct answers but weren’t shown.
OMG, as a Canadian I got them all correct. You walk around all day with the sum of all knowledge in your pocket, and don't know anything about the world around you.
