The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that should be on this list is when Schumacher takes out Battiston in the 82 World Cup and doesn't get a red...left the player comatose.
Just watched it, i was born not long after that, so I dont remember it tbh, but it could have easily made the list for sure. Things we're different back then though not as hard these days i guess 😂😂
Brazil 82. A team of footballers. Played with absolute joy. Beaten by an Italian team with Rossi only returned from suspension for "irregularities" at and with juventus. There's a surprise.
How the ones that compiled the list did not include the Schumacher assault is beyond me the striker had to be revived in the ambulance after being clinically dead.
Sending Zidane off is definitely top of the list but it's not for the reasons mentioned. The ref and linesman didn't see the incident and didn't stop play. When the ball went out the 4th official had him sent off after looking at a monitor. Problem with this is remember there's no VAR, and at that time only the on field officials could make that call.
The murder of Andrés Escobar 1994 was i believe the most shocking and devastating world cup moment. Nobody should lose their life because of a game of football.
England's "Goal" against Germany in the finals in 1966 - you know the ones that came back after hitting the post, but it was given as a goal- and it decided the world cup final!
What's shocking to me is how shocked they were with Rijkaard, and how they don't remember the racist remarks of Feller that caused it. Modification: Turns out Rijkaard was to blame for the whole thing. Respect to Mr. Völler for accepting apology, for the benefit of a charitable cause.
First time I hear that. Any link to this information? I have checked it out and Völler was a real gentleman, accepting Rijkaard's apology. Respect to Mr. Völler.
Micah I’m amazed that your history with football is just your lifetime. Football has so many stories and controversies and great characters in all decades. Get studying ❤
02 was my world cup. That Brazil team is the best I've ever seen. Ireland were fantastic in that tournament. Duff and Keane looked like world beaters and they went out to Spain after extra time with guys like Matt Holland, Lee Carsley, Jason McAteer and Mark Kennedy in midfield. With Keane running the show they might have pulled that off.
Barcelona Ronaldo was the first player I ever watched who when he picked the ball up no matter where it was, sideline, center circle the hairs on the back of your neck stood up in anticipation, lightning speed, close control, step overs leave the keeper on his backside. What could of been but for those injuries
I saw that as a kid and couldn't believe it.....That was my second fave national team after Brazil. I dont think Schmacher was even carded ....he played till the end if I am correct(?)
Schumacher assault should be in. Keane leaving was big news in the UK and Ireland but probably not the world over. Maradona cheating was huge. Though Suarez's handball should have been sorted by the ref - if he'd been switched on he'd have ordered a retake for encroaching.
I find it interesting that all these moments are all.from great players, there's no moment from an average or ok player, lends itself to the flaw in the genius Lineker said
with all the bad thing Suarez did in his career I don't know why everyone thinks that handball was disgusting. it would have been cheating if no penalty was given. Foul was given and Gyan missed it, not Suarez fault. He did what all players would have done in that situation, payed the right price as he has been sent off and gave the opponents a chance to win.
Harald Schumacher's horror "tackle" on Patrick Battiston in the 82 world cup should have been included. No attempt to play the ball at all, Battiston still suffering from the affects to this day.... and the ref gave a goal kick
Lineker's on pitch accident against the Republic of Ireland!! These three are the football equivalent of Messrs Clarkson,Hammond and May. Fabulous fayre xxxx
I'm English and it annoys me how much people go on about that Lampard 2010 decision. And I've just seen the list and I'm turning it off before hearing the orders they choose because Cristiano/Rooney incident &CR's wink&just to rub in even more the deciding pen was more shocking than most of these and is somehow not on here. I know they won't put Lampard at 10 but it should be in fact it shouldn't even be on here fullstop ok bye now.
OK I fast forwarded just to see the list and fair enough they both put Lampard number 10 👍 But still can't believe that got on here but the Rooney red, Cristiano wink etc...didn't.
Suarez handball I agree I think most would (or should) WANT to do and might do because he is doing whatever it takes to win and that's what made him one of the best strikers but Micah is right it was the manner and celebrations afterwards, of course he's happy his risk paid off, to see how heart breaking it was for the nation to be robbed of a goal and it was fully intentional and completely unsportsmanlike to deny that joy from a whole nation but again I agree that if I was there I would likely do the same. It was both a moment of genius and utter disgust but the games the game.
The Suarez handball incident is the very reason there should be "penalty goals" in football, just like there are penalty tries in rugby..........It was 100% a goal if Suarez doesn't cheat..........There was no benefit of doubt to be offered, it was a goal.
I equate it to a tactical foul. He took the consequences for a chance of denying a goal. Think Marcos Llorente's tackle on Morata in the Spanish Super Cup. Denied a clear goalscoring opportunity
I don’t understand the Suarez one, it’s not like he got away with it. He was caught doing it and was rightfully sent off for it, the missing of the penalty by Ghana has absolutely nothing to do with him at that point, it wouldn’t have even been remembered had they scored the penalty.
I like how shearer dug out Beckham, and ignored his inability to adapt and deal with the situation afterwards... England would of progressed that tournament if shearer stayed on the bench... ask sol campbell
Maradona getting kicked out of the 94 world cup for me. Up until then he’d played really well and scored a great goal against Greece. I was gutted knowing that was probably his last world cup.
R9 was better then Ronaldo but because of his injuries Ronaldo will be seen as better at his best R9 was best ever along with George Best and Roy Keane
Micah is obsessed with talking about money and himself. Doesn't seem to know nothing about football, and hes hard to watch with hos loud voice and laugh
They love cheats. Sell there mother for 10p and hope to buy her back for 8p. By the way hand ball is NOT A foul. Proves how much they know of the laws of the game. Diego was the supreme cheat with drugs helping him.
They are always desperate to get him to talk about Keane. Its obvious Lineker dont like him and when he won there best prem player ever he was openly annoyed and its funny to see Shearer pretending he dont hate when hes jealous. Shearer was a bottler with no self esteem, why he would only play in a team where he was main man, i reckon he would of struggled at united like Cole did as welland in my mind Cole is the highest goal scorer in prem coz all from open play
I've heard a crazy story about why Ronaldo was MIA in '98. This was a documentary on YT about a french martial artist going aroung the world and learning other martial arts etc... Anyway,he was in Senegal and he talked to a witch doctor. HE told him that his father got paid to throw a curse on Ronaldo in 98 by someone from France . And it worked but the french somehow didn't honor the deal(not enough money or something). So,they cursed them a few years later and Senegal beat France in Korea and Japan 2002 in the group stage and they didn't make it out of the group and the holders. We all know what Ronaldo and Co. did. I found it interesting so i thought i share.
I don't get it why suarez handball consider cheating? if ghana didn't get penatly then u can say it was cheating....suarez just sacrifice himself to give Uruguay a life line....every player would do the same...its ghana fault for not scoring the pen...

Gary is a great analyst, excellently versed and standup guy. That and one of Spurs top goalscorers ever
do you work for the BBC
Geoff Hursts two goal hat trick in 66
I love that Gary talks to Micah like he’s his big brother or uncle or something 😂😂

England's "Goal" against Germany in the finals in 1966 - you know the ones that came back after hitting the post, but it was given as a goal- and it decided the world cup final!
Seeing the Suarez handball footage again, he could easily have headed it off the line. That kind of makes it worse.
Saurez saving the goal 100% in the right just like a nasty team foul on the last man.. sacrifice ur self to save ur team
