- B vitamins are crucial co-factors for many essential processes within the body, such as methylation and the production of neurotransmitters. Many of these B vitamins cannot be sourced from vegetables.
Low levels of these co-factors leads to depression, anxiety and even psychosis. We need these co-factors to create the building blocks for DNA.
Without these essential B vitamins, we cannot convert homocysteine to methionine efficiently leading to an increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer's.

Why would my b12 be only 252 when I eat a high fat and high meat diet? I have been supplimenting with 130mg of element iron a day as I need to keep my ferritin around 200 to treat my restless leg. GP total me that B12 of 252 is in range and fine. Even though I have issues that come with low B12. Just your thoughts on this would be apprecited.
Hi Emma,
Ryan here from the Keto-Pro Shop Team. (Not a doctor, but can share my knowledge)
There can be several possible reasons why someone might be deficient in vitamin B12 despite following a high fat and high meat diet.
One reason could be a condition that affects their body's ability to absorb vitamin B12 from food. This could include conditions such as pernicious anemia or certain gastrointestinal disorders. Some medications can also affect your ability to absorb B12.
Another possibility is that the meat being consumed may not actually contain as much vitamin B12 as expected. Additionally, cooking methods and food processing can also affect the vitamin B12 content of meat.
Some genetic factors may mean your absorption and transportation of B12 is not very efficient also. To summarise, there can be multiple factors that may hinder the absorption or transportation of B12 including medications, not producing enough of a certain type of 3 different proteins and genetic factors.
Different meats tend to have different levels of B12. Red meat such as beef is always good (rarer the better as overcooking or exposure to a lot of heat can diminish the B12 available). Animal kidneys and liver is also a high source, as is tuna.
The issue I find with a lot of medical ranges for different vitamins, minerals, hormones etc. Is that they vary wildly (i.e. normal ranges can be drastically different, testosterone in men for example can range about 4x the amount at the higher normal range than the lower, and the lower range is not much at all). So typically I find that unless your ranges are severely high or low, medically they don't tend to fall outside of a "normal range" despite suffering the associated issues.
I hope this helps - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team
WOW> Can you please talk at normal speed? I can't catch it all when it's fast. Thank you. x

Apologies, this was a 60 sec clip recorded for Instagram reels, they have to be 60 sec or less, so it's very difficult to cram all of the relevant information in. I'll be recording a longer, more in-depth version shortly. :-)
Sorry to cause a problem. 74 yrs old and new to these things. Thank you. @@Richard-Smith-Nutrition
