All of this is a very long winded way of saying that you’re doing a really good job on UA-cam, so please keep going!
Every time I watch one of your videos, I have to grab my Xt4. I have to double check my settings and learn more about each one. This one was very useful, since I've been shooting my kids sports more and more. I appreciate it so much. This may be the best Fuji based channel around.
Wordford Reserve is very fine bourbon. I may not be the only person to point that out but it needs to be said. Focus as applied directly to wedding photographers and continuous focus in particular would perhaps be helpful. Also, I use an L bracket because the Godox V860ii is much too heavy to put atop the camera. Enjoying your channel. Thanks.
All the functions are also available on X-T30. I may or may not end up in your list of that white board but you my friend will always be in my muscle memory, search memory and tech memory. Whatever I need to know about my camera I always end up coming in to your channel. Thank you.
Thanks! Boy was that useful. I finally understand why I prefer single point focus. I also know what to do now when the touch screen is on and the focus frame disappears to the lower left corner of the display: click twice on the joystick!
Aww, amazing! I get my GearIguana wall addition in such an important video! Thanks Chris! 😃 I love single point too, it’s so useful for so many situations! Keep going with these videos, and have a wonderful weekend! Andrew
I used to use single point all the time, but recently I started using multi-point + continuous focus mode on the front lever. It gives a really satisfying "locked on target" behavior while doing focus-and-recompose. I guess for a studio situation the focus might be a little less precise than single point, but for less controlled environments I've got the bonus of already tracking.
Thank you for posting this video! I just switched over to Fuji from Canon and the one area I’m having a tough time figuring out is the auto focus. On my Canon, if I pointed my camera at any scene on auto focus and half pressed the shutter it would guess and auto focus at a certain single point of the scene. If I didn’t want that point to be the focus I could just tap the screen to readjust to a different point. I understand you can move the focus point and tap to adjust on Fuji, but I am having a hard time figuring out on single point focus how to get it to “guess” where the auto focus should be first. If I am on autofocus I would think I should be able to aim my camera at a baseball bat, and it auto select to focus at the tip of the bat, but if I wanted it to instead focus on the handle, I should be able to tap the handle to refocus there. The only mode that seems to guess the focus is Wide on Fuji, but I can’t then tap on a specific part of the scene to focus on that instead. Could you please explain how to achieve that? It seems fairly simple to me but written out sounds a lot more complicated! Thanks for all your help!
Hi Chris! Choosing the number of focus (425/117) points rang the bell, as a sports photographer. Shall give a try and make the switch to 117 on the XT4. Cheers and thank you for the heads up!
I always send your vids to friends, and save them in my memos for quick access. I got a very clean Fuji 16mm 1.4 in the mail last week. No manual. When I shifted the collar to manual focus, I found even with my back screen magnified, I could never tell if I was in focus. And I could not make anything go really out of focus, even when at 1.4. It might make an interesting video.
Excellent Video Chris. I have been trying to figure out the relationship between the metering and single point focus mode for a while. (Didn't know how the camera handled the changes in these settings). Now it makes sense. You're a tremendous resource for Fuji users.
Subscribed :-) .. waiting for my first Fuji (in mail) that my lovely sis wants to give me as a gift .... ❤️ Great videos ..I feel like I already know my gear even before it arrived haha ...keep these coming Chris! BTW.. loved Benjamin's video... Just reaffirmed my decision to get into Fujifilm. 👌
Sir, Thank you so much for explaining so deeply about all camera, lence and other related photography... I really love your smile 😄. Sir do u recomend XT30
Great video! It would be great if you could make a video on Face/Eye Autofocus. Whenever I use that, it focuses on the Face/Eye area, but the problem is that exposure is also set based on the face area only and if the background is bright it gets overexposed. Is there any way to use Face/Eye autofocus and set exposure from Multi metering mode? Thank you!
Great channel great videos, thank you.I see another channel that exposed for a bright sky then lowered the camera to street level and then focused and shot a silhouette stile picture. How can I do this with Fuji do I unlock exposure from focus (interlock off) then use the AEL button under "switch" setting to lock the exposure using bright sky.Lower my camera to street level focus on a half press and shoot. Two problems I have is AEL does not seem to work for a reason I cannot fathom, it is set up for AEL and not any other setting. My other issue is according to what is in your video it will expose for the centre of the frame.Hope this makes sense and if it does I would appreciate a point in the right direction.Learning so much from you please write a book and publish on Kindle. Thanks again. Ok solved I had to go button dial setting and turn AE off.Simple when you know how 🤭
Great video, Pal. I didn’t know you could do that. I’m also wondering why when I half-press the shutter button, my exposure slightly changes. I know this is such a noob question. When half-pressing the shutter button, why does my exposure change? I have it in a single focus.
Hi I have an xt3 and I have a video focusing question I want to be able to Use touch to focus while recording video but when in manual mode it wont let me. When I change focusing to S mode I can touch to fucus while recoding but cant see any focus peaking I want to be able to use Focus peaking and touch to focus while recording in 1 mode, how can I achieve this? Thank you
HI Chris(?) this is off topic but dont know how to cotact you any other way. I am using a fuji X-T4 and wondering if therfe is a way in movie mode to select a button to switch from normal recode mode to slow motion mode For example if i video sort action and the sudenly want to record the action in slow mode. no time to stop recordind , then go to menus to activate slow mo back to record sart filming then stop etc etc. I am sur you get my drift. Thank you Ken
I've already had a feeling that you're gonna need a much bigger whiteboard for the Geariguana Hall of Fame. BTW I'm using XT20 and your videos are still very useful! Please keep them coming!
Not saying it's better, but my habit has normally been to leave it in manual/back-button focus, focus on whatever I want, then recompose and take the shot. I should probably try what you demonstrated to see how I like it -- but I'm an old dog, so.... 🤷
I use BBF with manual a lot myself. Depending on what I'm shooting. Both work great, but for autofocus, my fav is single point. However, Zone can also be a great option and in some cases better than spot. That will need it's own video.
Thanks Chris, another excellent video! I've been trying to do some night photography with my X-T4 without great results - any chance of a Fuji Night Photography video coming up?
I have a question, does the focus points correlate to phase detect pixels on the sensor? Or something like that? If that is true and you switch to the lower amount of points, but have a big focusing square, one that would cover several focus points when you had 400+ points turned on, will it still use the same amount of phase detect pixel to gain focus? Not sure that was understandable.
If i'm doing one on one photo shoots, should i use the 425 focus points or the smaller one? Currently I use 425 and I wondered if it would be better the other way round?
Thanks for all your useful explanations. What's the difference between the single point focus or full matrix (all points)? I mean: even though I'm using the full matrix setting, I'm still moving the little square to focus a single point on the image.
Thank You so much for another Super Fast Friday!:) I have a question somehow related to the topic. I have found that when I am using a zoom lens in Video mode , even when my aperture is closed (lets say to F16), still when I am zooming in and out, I see that my frame is adjusting the brightness (as if it normally does with all NOT fixed aperture Zoom lenses). I was thinking that by closing my aperture way more than the actual range within which the steps should be visible (lets say on Fujinon 55-200 from F3,5 till F4,8) I would avoid seeing those flickering steps. Unfortunately I do not have any of the fixed aperture zoom lenses to see how they perform but maybe You could advise or comment on that :) Thank You so much!
Could not get the joy stick to move the centre spot found this setting to turn it on and off, Depress and hold the joystick for 3 seconds and the "FOCUS LEVER SETTINGS" menu will appear. 3 options are OFF, PUSH TO UNLOCK, ON Choose the middle option "PUSH TO UNLOCK" and the joystick will be disabled. You can enable it by depressing the joystick button.
question. on my xt4, the focus box keeps moving from where I set it in the center to way over to the left side for some reason. I have to constantly move it back. how do I LOCK it in the center?? thanks.
I have the same problem with my XT3. It is very frustrating. I guess that the only solution would be to push in the joystick twice, as he recommends, after each exposure.
one more question... how, with the xt4, do I set up the camera to shoot with flashes, camera on Manual, and Not have the frame go darker as I raise shutter speeds? shooting available light And strobe. Thanks people!
Hey P2T, I don't really understand how it is any different than manual back button auto focus with focus and exposure locking in the same way for composition. Is the only difference that the trigger is a shutter button rather than the AE or AF buttons? What the difference between M focus on the dial and S? I've literally heard a UA-camr say I don't use it, I don't touch, it, I don't know a anything about it. But I've always wondered if there's some secret technique only S can do.
Great tip as always! Is there going to be a non fuji lens round up? Also you have never covered telefoto converters. I would like to see an extremely silly use of them like is it worth it to use a tele converter into a 16-80mm? Or a tiny 35mm?
Great vid, even though I always use single point with BB focus. Always something to be gleaned from your vids regardless of how used to things I appear to think I am Lol :-)
You must have surely, somewhere. On my X-S10 I simple press the MENU/OK button, scroll to the SHOOTING menu (camera icon on left), scroll down to page 2 and the Photometry setting is about half way down. Hope that helps.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the kind words!!! You ROCK!!!! and I know will get some great shots with it!!! Cheers!
Same here!
Us coming from Canon and Nikon it is great.
Same
You can count on it! Been around, at least two years, and just keeps on going! Awesome job by Chris!
The recognition of the top member is freakin cool and very classy on pal2tech.... So cool... It actually made me smile...

The interlocking focus and metering point is a big selling point on the Fuji system. Very useful feature.
Chris, you have made owning a Fuji camera so much more enjoyable with all your helpful videos and tech knowledge. Thank you!!
Thank you LuAnn! I appreciate the kind words! 🙏
completely agree
Double tap for centering focus point wonderful tip
I was unaware of that double tap on the joystick. This video has been so worthwhile. Thank you
On the X-T30 just press the joystick 🕹 1 time and it re-centers.
Just bought a XT200 , Your channel has been so helpful, keep it up.
Dude I just got a xt4 and found your channel! You are a amazing teacher and a life saver. Liked and subscribed.

You chuckle about that delicious Kentucky bourbon like you stole it out of dad's liquor cabinet! Woodford is good stuff.
Thanks Chris and thank you Mr Jeffries!
Our pleasure! Great live stream you did yesterday!! I got to get on those already!!!!!
For those who want reliable autofocus for fuji , try multi , no face-eye , I use it with viltrox lenses speed -1 sens 3
Aww, amazing! I get my GearIguana wall addition in such an important video! Thanks Chris! 😃 I love single point too, it’s so useful for so many situations!
Keep going with these videos, and have a wonderful weekend!

You got it!!!! Thank you so much Andrew!!!! You were the FIRST!!!!!!!!
You did it again ! Remind me to send you the liter version of that there little bottle !
Dear Sir,

Having the same issue! Did you know figure out how to fix this? I just can’t figure out how to let the camera decide what it should focus on…
This is great! I'm beginning to set up a new Fuji X100V, and this helps with the settings. Thanks, Chris!

Have a great weekend. Love your work.
Just got my second Fuji, a brand new in box X-e3, as I have always been a two camera person.
one of the reasons that the X-T is such an incredible machine.. Thank you
You bet!
Great, this is the one I was looking for 😀
double click on the joystick is the life saver tip! thanks
Thanks for today's fast Friday, very helpful tips on single point focus Chris.
You bet!
Hi Sir good day,its a very nice tutorial...im in Philippines 👍👍
Excellent Video Chris. I have been trying to figure out the relationship between the metering and single point focus mode for a while. (Didn't know how the camera handled the changes in these settings). Now it makes sense. You're a tremendous resource for Fuji users.
Fast Friday video idea here. You could make a video about the soft release button. I got one and aww man, it changed the whole experience .
Good video as always
Subscribed :-) .. waiting for my first Fuji (in mail) that my lovely sis wants to give me as a gift .... ❤️
Great videos ..I feel like I already know my gear even before it arrived haha ...keep these coming Chris!
BTW.. loved Benjamin's video... Just reaffirmed my decision to get into Fujifilm. 👌
Hi Chris, I wanted to know how to focus on both the subject in the foreground and focus on the background at the same time?
Sir, Thank you so much for explaining so deeply about all camera, lence and other related photography... I really love your smile 😄. Sir do u recomend XT30
I have been after Fuji to make the focus point display darker when you are focusing on a light subject when using the LCD.
You're the Man! 👌
Dear Chris, I could not find on the camera manual’photometry’in the camera section or anywhere else. Please help!
Keep up the good work. Fujifilm ❤️
always something in your videos for me.
Wow, John!!!! Thank you so much!!! I appreciate hearing that!!! Have a great weekend!!!

But what does changing the size of the focus point actually do? Does it make everything in that square in focus?
Congrats @Andrew Jeffries!!
I have a question. What if I use exposure lock, would it still use the light meter at the center?
Great channel great videos, thank you.I see another channel that exposed for a bright sky then lowered the camera to street level and then focused and shot a silhouette stile picture. How can I do this with Fuji do I unlock exposure from focus (interlock off) then use the AEL button under "switch" setting to lock the exposure using bright sky.Lower my camera to street level focus on a half press and shoot. Two problems I have is AEL does not seem to work for a reason I cannot fathom, it is set up for AEL and not any other setting. Ok solved I had to go button dial setting and turn AE off.Simple when you know how 🤭
Is there a way to LOCK the focus/AE spot to the centre of the frame? I find it constantly gets bumped off that position.
Great video, Pal. I didn’t know you could do that. I’m also wondering why when I half-press the shutter button, my exposure slightly changes. I know this is such a noob question. When half-pressing the shutter button, why does my exposure change? I have it in a single focus.

When I change focusing to S mode I can touch to fucus while recoding but cant see any focus peaking
I want to be able to use Focus peaking and touch to focus while recording in 1 mode, how can I achieve this?
Thank you
What is the biggest reason the change the size of the focus square? Maybe this is a dumb question but I need an answer :D
I always recommend back button focusing to avoid accidentally focusing again after recomposing with single point focus.
HI Chris(?)
this is off topic but dont know how to cotact you any other way.

Any GFX Clips coming Up ?
Great vid, even though I always use single point with BB focus. Always something to be gleaned from your vids regardless of how used to things I appear to think I am Lol :-)
why doesn't my xt3 display the white square I cannot find how to turn it on. the menu system on the xt3 is terrible
Thank you!
You bet!
So Photometry should be on spot? how about Multi?
Question nothing to do with this video. Do you know if is possible to shoot fast sync flash with Good equipment and an XT1?
Godox equipment not good haha
Well done, I'm watching this while sipping on some Elijah Craig
В каком режиме снимаете, HLG or F-LOG?
Already like it
Márcio!!!!! Thanks!!!! You're awesome!!!! 👍 👍 👍
Hi I don't have the Photometry choice on my XT-3?
You must have surely, somewhere. On my X-S10 I simple press the MENU/OK button, scroll to the SHOOTING menu (camera icon on left), scroll down to page 2 and the Photometry setting is about half way down. Hope that helps.
It's on the top dial. Rotate the top dial below where you set your shutter speed.
Xt3 does
Thank you all. It is on the top dial... not in the menu!
Again a very informative video, you and some others explaining our Fujis should really be writing the manuals for these cameras which are so badly written and illogically set up, without science degree you're lost 😂
In my opinion, it is easier to dedicate one of the 4 directions of the cloverleaf to quickly change the "AF/MF SINGLE POINT", easy to set up :)
Hello There
28th.
Grazie per i tuoi video, sono fatti davvero bene, ma per gli utenti che non sono di madrelingua inglese, e che usano i sottotitoli, ti prego di parlare un poco più lentamente, perche molte volte non capisco quello che dici. Grazie
I am using fujifilm finepix S8200 because i am a poor person...🙏🙏
I’ve been doing it wrong like a dumbo for months, 425 points for everything
