Wonder Woman Game Update: Bad News Ahead of Summer Game Fest 2024
We finally got an update about the Wonder Woman game from Warner Brothers ahead of Summer Game Fest, and of course, it’s bad news. What it do, Durag Nation? I’m back with Super News Bits, giving you the latest superhero news in 3 minutes or less if you subscribe. It’s been three long years since the Wonder Woman game got its world premiere trailer during The Game Awards. At the time, fans were thrilled not just because we were finally getting a DC game that had nothing to do with Batman, but because on paper, this game sounded amazing. An open-world action game starring one of the DC trinity developed by Monolith Productions using their nemesis system, which means every combat encounter will have much more weight since enemies you don’t permanently put down will remember you and can get stronger, even adapting to your combat style.
This was the highlight of their last game, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, and was so good, people were mostly willing to give them a pass on the insane amount of microtransactions, which were eventually patched out of the game. Maybe we should have taken that as a sign that this game wasn’t as much of a surefire hit as we thought, as we’ve only gotten a few updates about the game since then, apart from hiring announcements.
One of those updates caused controversy when a job posting for the Wonder Woman game called for a potential employee with live service experience, leading to WB issuing a statement promising Wonder Woman won’t be live service. Which, of course, doesn’t mean it won’t have any microtransactions; it will still likely follow a Games as a Service (GAAS) model, especially since the CEO of Warner Brothers straight up said that was their strategy going forward. So while it won’t be like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which looks like it’s shutting down any day now, expect something closer to Arkham Knight. However, even with WB Games Montreal reportedly helping as a support studio, things apparently still aren't going well for Wonder Woman.
Famous media personality and CEO of Kinda Funny, Greg Miller, dropped a scoop on his popular gaming podcast revealing that a source reached out and told him things with the Wonder Woman game were ‘troubled.’ Which is not something you ever want to hear about a game in development. The best-case scenario for a game with a ‘troubled’ development cycle is CyberPunk 2077, but they usually end up falling somewhere between Gollum and Gotham Knights. Hopefully, they manage to figure it out and get the game on track. If not, though, there are still more superhero games to look forward to. And you could see up to seven of them at Summer Game Fest in a few days.

I am however I’m not as excited as I was because of this news.
I’m not a Marvel fan (I still do like some characters!) and the fact that literally every Triple A game right now that is Superhero based is Marvel is saddening. The Arkham games were amazing but they are old now and their legacy has just been spat on by SS:KtJL. Now Marvel has Spider Man, Miles Morales, Spider Man 2, Wolverine, Iron Man, Black Panther and a Black Panther and Captain America game… where is Superman, Flash, Green Lantern ect. If DC want a shot in the games industry with their superhero’s they better start making games and fast
It’s so annoying that a DC game that has such potential has been facing troubles. Some person, I don’t know who, at WB made a statement saying something like “We won’t be making a Superman game because we shouldn’t feel obliged too, it also does not align with our business strategy” and I’m thinking ‘You’ve just lost $200 million from making a game that no one wanted, if you listen to the fandom and the community instead of making every game Live Service you might make a profit’. The fact that the WW game won’t be Live Service is amazing however it is still facing troubles which is absolutely appalling. WB and DC need to get their sh*t together
They could have made a Batman Beyond Live action Movie by now and Videogame but no! Because WB cares way to much about Terry being cooler than Bruce.Exactly why we don't have an Anime vs DC game or Anime VS DC Movie.

They ‘THINK’ Live Service games will be bringing them in money, but no one gives a sh*t about Live Service games. We want good games, I mean look at Rockstar, they make one game a decade and are fine. 🤣
Yeah man WB is run by the most out of touch executive suits that most of their problems stem from them especially anything to do with David Zaslav who's been running WB since the Discovery merger and it's been a disaster since, there's so much potential on the table for WB's IP and yet they waste it in every given waking moment, I'm more surprised they haven't broken the law in such a way it would force them to clean up their act.
WB screwed up multiversus already. The beta was way better than the “full release” all because the publishers wanted it to come out and it’s FILLED with money hungry practices. This company seriously wants to beat Ubisoft at being the worst faster.
Some other studio should make a "superman" game by just changing the look of the character, his name, and backstory. He could have the same exact powers.
I just want a Superman game, here I thought that hey if they can make a Wonder Woman game they can make a Superman game but it looks like they can’t even make a wonder woman game.

I wanted this game being a huge Wonder Woman fan since I was kid and having the pleasure of meeting actress Lynda Carter who started the whole phenomenon back in the 70s. Other than Gal Gadot bringing the character back into live action Wonder Woman seems to be getting left behind in so many opportunities I really hope this game happens
Same honestly other DC Comics characters deserve a shot a game, especially being given the pedigree that Monolith has brought with Shadow of Mordor to take a crack at a Wonder Woman game just sounds fire the more you think about it, it's too bad of it's troubled development and possible alleged live service elements which we're currently in a sea of them and WB's attempt with Self Harm Squad hasn't paid them well and put them 200 million in the hole of their making and they still want to double down on Live Service Trash, I guess WB is run by morons.

It's hard being a DC gaming fan these days with lackluster over monetized Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and MultiVersus games. I miss the Batman Arkham and Injustice days, that was the best time to be a DC gaming fan.

Warner Bros. have been trying to make a live service DC game and and failed everytime with Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad. Those genre of games are just not suited for live service but shooters are, and they have a DC fps ip made by Monolith themselves who are struggling with Wonder Woman. The fps is called Gotham City Imposters and its a fan favorite, Warner Bros. need to revive that ip if they want a live service

Games these days take at least 5 years to develop unless they ease up on the graphics. We might not see this game reach its potential until 2027
The funny thing is that this is the only Superhero game that I actually want to play right now, aside of Superman, of course. We're probably going to get a plethora of Marvel hit or misses and Wonder Woman will get cancelled eventually....😥

Being a game development student here’s what I think is going on since the new DCU universe is going to start aka reboot of DCU there was a statement that movies, animation movies, game etc will be connected and I think that’s something a reason why Wonder Woman game is in trouble.because the game was already in worked meaning the artwork was made maybe some 3d modeling stuff was made or in other wording production of game was like around 20 to 30 Percent when James Gunn got the charge and he wanted to talk to the developers about the game and what is vision for new Wonder Woman is
James Gunn was asked about this and he said there was no mandate on games or movies being connected to the DCU. Elseworld projects are fine

I am wondering why people get so mad about microtransaction on single player games? It is not a pay 2 win games, and it is just an optional contents for those who wants to purchase to support the company. It is funny that people keeps bringing a issue which is not a problem at all.
Most gamers don't actually care. It's usually people who don't spend money on games crying about them. It's only a problem when a game ties progression or weapons to spending money.

I'd love a Superman game but I'm not sure how you make playing as Superman interesting unless it's an off world story.
I could see a flash game as being incredible.
Treat it as intelligence based for an escape and then have bad guy brawl.
Superman is fully powered, but he has to decide which power works best against what enemy and how to get out of the trap...because he can't just punch or laser everything.

Gotham Knights is amazing. I don't know what the f*** people ever had to issue with. Besides the frame rate but playing as batgirl was amazing.
Launch performance was pretty dog shit on PC. I didn't have issues playing solo, but co-op was basically unplayable for me on console. Fans were also mad about the lack of a performance mode and them promoting the game for last gen, then canceling last gen support 5 months before launch. A lot of it though was just salty arkham fans who wanted to play as Batman
@SadotTheGamer I agree , I just wished That when someone has an issue Without trust of it getting fixed Doesn't blow it out of such proportion to where ruins the games ratings for life Knowing that the game is playable and in fact , can be a A great game unlike suicide squad kill the justice league that game Was absolutely horrible and deserved it's Rating But gotham nights Is a solid 7 out of 10 in my opinion, now, at least

Marvel has a better cinematic universe (compared to the DCEU) and both Marvel and DC have equal games because DC has the Arkham games and Injustice, Marvel has Spider Man 1-2 and Miles Morales so far, comics I think goes to DC because their comic book characters are generally more original and their runs are more interesting, like Lucifer, Sandman, Death Metal ect also I did look up multiple sources and many different sources state DC has better comics than Marvel so far so I’m just going with that. So overall I think both Marvel and DC are equal when it comes to all factors however right now Marvel has the better universe even though it’s declining. The DCU will hopefully be good so I won’t say DC is ‘dead’ just yet. If Superman is sh*t then sure you’ve got a point
