Hi Kay, thanks for this review, very interesting to hear your opinion on this book which I’ve been using recently as inspiration for my videos and people have enjoyed it. Good luck with your channel!
Hi Kay - thanks for this review! I found you through Diane Antone Studio. I've subscribed to your channel, and I look forward to seeing more of your art book reviews. Best wishes to you with your new channel!
Thank you for subscribing to my channel. I really appreciate it. Diane has been very encouraging and supportive and I am very grateful to her. I hope you found my review helpful... Best wishes...
I came across this book yesterday and thought it looked interesting, so i was pleased to find your review, Kay. Very thorough! Then I looked at your website and really enjoyed your enthusiasm for taking on the 'big adventure' of art, as well as your willingness to join in the Sky landscape comp. Brava! I'm a late adventurer in art too (began a year or so ago). Loving the fun, the newness and the challenge.
Thank you for your generous comment. I really appreciate it. My website badly needs updating... I think we just need to have a go... art is very subjective after all and creative people are never truly happy with their own work are they? I approach my art purely for fun and enjoyment and if anything else comes of it, happy days! I am really pleased to learn you found the review helpful and wish you lots of enjoyment in your journey.
Hello... At 8:40 in this video my review states, "this is a really good book if you are a beginner to watercolor..." My book reviews are very detailed and go through page by page. If you are not a complete beginner to watercolor, I am sure you will still enjoy the abstract projects in Kate's book. I find they are very useful for practicing color mixing and brush control, especially when you don't have a lot of time or you need to just relax... What subjects do you like to paint? I have lots more book reviews in the pipeline I could suggest for you. Best wishes...
Oooh now I know the name of the artist whose style I have been trying for four or five years 😂. I must have twenty of her creations saved on my Pinterest. My bigger challenge painting is color use. For some reason I’m terrible at it 😂. I’ve absolutely watched many videos about it, practiced … it’s weird. I always have to use examples of colors to put together, I cannot make them up. Which is fine, I’m still having lots of fun.
Hello Lisa... I sometimes struggle with colour combinations myself. Shirley Trevena keeps a collection of colours cut from magazines, which she uses to see how different colour combinations look when put together, before she starts a new painting. I have reviewed her book "Taking Risks With Watercolour", here on my channel. I am publishing another book review very soon, which is a sort of reference book, with lots of beautiful colour combinations, but it's much more than that. I am very excited about it and can't wait to use it as inspiration for some of my own paintings. Happy painting...
I have this book - it is a great book with tonnes of advice and ideas and insturctions. Once you have done a few, you will find your own wings and off you will go!!!! Loved your review of this book - could not say it any better!!!
I am so glad that I found you. This is something I always search for before buying a book. It is so hard to find a good book without looking at the content. Do you own any of the books by Inga Buividavice? I would love to watch a review about them. You do really well and I hope your channel grows fast.
Thank you for your kind comment. I really appreciate it. I have a copy of Painting Calm by Inga Buividavice plus a few more that are similar in content, but a bit different. I have just filmed several more videos today for other book requests. As soon as I have edited and upload these, I will review Inga's book for you. Best wishes Kay...
Just watched this again as I really want to try out the techniques in the book! I think I am going to buy it but I just ordered a book yesterday about 'The Painter Edouard Vuillard' and need to reign in my spending for a bit! 😄
Thank you. I purchased this book because it was #1 in Amazon at the time. I didn't have much expectation to be honest, but it's actually very good, especially for beginners to watercolour painting. The projects are easy to follow step by step, and the techniques learned will inspire lots of ideas of your own. I am very pleased with this book and looking forward to working my way through the projects.
Hello Kay! I found you by accident! I clicked on a video that I thought was by Silver and Solo and it was actually by a UA-camr called Clara! I found you by a comment you left on there. I'm an over 50 UA-camr that has a channel about a creative life making art. I love art books and have quite a collection myself! I have just subscribed and hope to see more of your reviews. This book looks really interesting and I would like to have a go at making some of the projects. 😊
Yes, I did the same as you... I thought Clara's video was one from Jen. I thought Clara's review of Jen's journey was very good. My videos take me a very long time to edit and produce, as I am still learning the process. I have so many ideas, but little time to implement them, as I am still employed. I am having a lot of fun and enjoying the process though. I have several new videos in the pipeline... coming to a screen near you soon as they say. I have subscribed to your channel. It is refreshing to find an artist promoting the medium of collage, which I think is unappreciated as a medium. I was once a wildcard in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year and a lady there produced an amazing work from collage. I was so impressed... Thank you so much for watching and subscribing to my new channel Simone and for appreciating my book reviews. It means a lot...
@@ArtBookNook How wonderful to have been a wildcard in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year! I watch it and Portrait Artist too. I think there is a lot of snobbery around collage as people don't see it as fine art probably thinking of the kind of collage made at school by infants! It is much more accepted in Illustration for children's books I think! Thank you for subscribing to my channel too. Your videos are very good. I don't edit mine other than by using the free music that UA-cam provides. I am a slow learner! 😂☺
@@SimoneWhippArtist The wildcard was a wonderful experience and I reccommend it to anyone, but I was chosen at random, not for my talent, or lack of it :-) The production company told me they phone a list of people who entered the competition until they have 50 confirmed wildcards for each location. I have a review of the day on my art website if you would like to know what it was like? kayjohnsonart.com/sky-arts-landscape-artist-2019/
I have just been to your website and read your review Kay. Wow! You are not only a talented artist but a natural story teller too! You could have a whole other UA-cam channel all about your art journey and not just confine yourself to book reviews. You are hiding your light under a bushel! ☺
Hi Kay, thanks for this review, very interesting to hear your opinion on this book which I’ve been using recently as inspiration for my videos and people have enjoyed it. Good luck with your channel!

Just got the book. Looking forward to growing my skills.
The projects in the book are easy to follow and will bring you a lot of enjoyment. Happy painting...
Hi Kay, keep posting. Great content :)
Thank you. The content belongs to Kate Rebecca Leach. I hope you like her book.
Thank you for this review. This book looks interesting. It’s going on my book list. 🌸 Everything of the best for your channel.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching. You will enjoy the book, the projects are lovely...
Thanks for this wonderful review. Just what I needed!
I was a bit in doubt, but after watching your video I am definitely ordering this book ☺️
Thank you. I am pleased my review was helpful. You will love the book. Happy painting...
I bought it but its for beginner. 🙃

Get yourself a color wheel. It helps to learn color theory...complementary, primary, and tertiary.
