Will it start? Broke motor bought to replace bad engine in a bus detroit diesel 6v92TA after repairs

- Will this old engine that came out of a broken down bus run again after the blower and governor failure? Mci9 bus needs a replacement engine. Cooked and over heated detroit diesel was junk. We bought a cheap replacement engine and are rolling the dice. Will it start and run?

Must have been a relief to hear it run, and find out it is likely as advertised. Finding a good engine can't be a simple thing.
I trusted the source but the engine was never looked at closely for the issue. Just “sounded like” a certain issue
Definitely a great feeling to hear that beast start up when it is an unknown
Finally some good luck for the owner!
The slow motion effect of the smoke coming out is just awesome!!! Great video. These old Detroits are a testament to old school engineering!
Looks like slow motion but it’s real time
@@BusGreaseMonkey yes!, we had 671s in a sportfishong boat and sometimes on a cold non start the smoke would ease up out of the exhaust pipes. awesome stuff
When you spoke of the blown blower shaft, it reminded me of an incident in which the 4107 I was driving in charter service stripped the blower shaft teeth on one side. I called the owner, who instructed me how to remove the shaft and had me coat the stripped teeth with CRAZY GLUE. well, I got the job done and could return the group to Chicago from their ski trip in the U P of Michigan.
BGM, Way to go with a used but great sounding engine!
Outstanding, keeping the detroits alive! Saw a ship vid where the mechanic crawled through the intake culvert with his remote engine turner button to actually look inside the cylinders.
When I was in high school vo-tech for diesel shop, our teacher drilled into us so much about engine runaways, we were pretty much terrified of it. One of the most impressive steel plates I’d ever seen in the dyno cell.
Well, if you've never attended the scene of a runaway 2-stroke, all I can say is, it's unnerving, to say the very least, and depending on what shape your nerves are in, it can be terrifying all right. It's a combination of unexpected, unprepared, unrehearsed, and unglued, all smacked together into a very intense package.
Natural instinct is to get away from the intense noise, and also the instinct for self-preservation, because newbies would expect the engine to grenade at any second. Trust me, there is nobody laughing while it's happening. The nervous laughter comes once the sucker is under control, namely extinguished. And yes, if you let it go too long, damage can, and will occur. Best to do anything you can to avoid letting it happen before you start it up, unless of course, you don't care about it and have no money invested.
@@stanpatterson5033 I’ve experienced it in person since high school.
Excellent result with no negative surprises like an internal knock, etc. Sounds like it'll make for a good replacement engine without going overboard on expenses.
While it's out is a good time to really clean it and paint. A bus that sharp deserves an engine just as sharp.
Plus it'll make it easier to spot future oil leaks.
@@h5mind373, and current oil leaks too.
She’s an oldie but a goodie. Thank you!
Hey Scott, I just touched up the washer and the contacts in the solenoid of my hesitating starter. Worked like a charm. Thanks Bro. :)
ALWAYS GREAT TO HEAR & SEE U IN ACTION !!! A FANTASTIC SEN CE TEACHER !!! HOD NL U & YOUR FAMILY !!🙏😊👍♥️❤️😊
This was like an operating room, and John is the physician assistant😂
Yay another Happy customer ! From the Savior known as BGM 🙏☮️
Oh yeah!
Oh wow! Great video, Scott. Great video. It’s all working out how it’s supposed to.
Oh that sounded good. Should provided years of reliable service.
I am replacing a jump t timing chain in a Honda Turbo Civic. The honda turns 8,000 rpms and is smaller than your blower . I am doing tiny crap compared to you. Roller cams and a broken T/Chain "imagine the carnage'. Crank bolt is around a 1/2 ton torque to loosen. Or so it seems. More oil in your air filters than this Honda contains 3 & 3/4 qts when full
I have had my hands on at least 200 blow thru jugs. In one summer the City Gov. Had all Detroit Diesels rebuilt (many many many jugs) AKA boat anchors . We would deck the blocks and line bore the cam slots.
Awesome Job ❤
GOD BLESS U & YOUR FAMILY !!!👍😊🙏
keep the clips coming
Extensive damage to the blower causing much debris into the combustion chambers . Blower bearing failure has contaminated the oil supply system . May as well overhaul it .
Great job guys.
I used to love the smell of diesel smoke. But not quite that much! 😂😅😂😅😂😅
Nice job 🎉 also like your music clip🎉
One day you guys should order mechanics overalls with the BGM logo on the back and save a fortune in Levis. Thin for summer, insulated for winter. In "Grease Monkey Black".
Like the new outgo. Is that Tyler in costume? Narragansett Bay
Scott
Nice sound!
I have a fuel tank from an outboard motor with the prime bulb and the ability to remove the liine from the tank with a clip connection.
I hope you are going to clean it before install or even a quick paint job on the engine while it is out, couple of hours cost in labour would be worth it to the owner-just my thoughts !
\
That’s more than a couple of hours of work.
I would say give the owner the chance to clean all that himself before it goes in. Anyone can operate a spray can after it's clean.
Id be crazy but imagine mid mounting a 8v92 in a stepvan/breadvan
With a turbocharger added for that little extra something!
Your the best 👍💪
For what its worth, I wouldn't mind hearing Lenny screaming up your hill to end each video...or even as an intro if you prefer. 😉
Hopefully you take the pressure washer to it before the install....😁
If you remove the bolt in the battery terminal makes use of terminal pliers
It spreads it more than enough the bolts were plenty loose. Removing the bolt is just a complete waste of time
Nice
So my big question is: What's gonna happen to the old engine? I know you said it can be rebuilt, it's just cost prohibitive for the owner but is he gonna try selling it as a project or is it being sent as a core back to the previous owner of that new 6V?
Dumb question, but if this engine had a hose clamp go through the blower, doesn't that mean the pieces of it got launched into the airboxes and are potentially soon to be in the cylinders?
The after cooler stopped anything from going through
@@BusGreaseMonkey Ahhhh I forgot all about that!
Gotta hate it when an engine goes through, "rapid, spontaneous disassembly".
Did the engine run alright in its new home the dv6
Are engine parts like cranks and heads still out there usable used or they becoming harder to find
Everything is available new, used and remanufactured
I can't speak for used stuff from U-pull yards and what not, but as far as I know, Detroit Diesel is still committed to supplying parts for all of its engines. New, and re-man. I believe all of the 2-stroke legacy engines (Series-53, Series-71, Series-92, and Series-149) are lumped under the MTU-Solutions website.
There were also a few 110-series engines, mostly used in self propelled rail cars like the Budd RDC (which had two of them). Wonder if parts for those are still around.
Are you going to leave the corrosion protection coating on the engine or it going to get a scrub a a dub dub and rub before going in? And is it going to be repainted?
I hope u paint up a little.makes them run better😅
If the old blower had catastrophic damage doesn’t it mean the pieces that damaged the blower went into the engine?
A few very small pieces are probably in the oil pan. But everything is on the drain side. The intake we clean out and all debris was caught on the after cooler do no parts got ingested
Is that a V-6?
That ending tho,lol.
Smoking "really really badly", not "really really bad". Still , great video!
Stupid question but why does it run a turbo and supercharger
These 2 stroke motors are called squeezes cause the turbo puts air on top of the pistons and the blower puts air under the pistons and the oil gets squeezed out of all the openings!!! At least that is what a mechanic explained to me about these motors many years ago.
@@sparksalot4950 interesting concept
Brandon got you a motor? Then, LET'S GO BRANDON!
