I was there. It looks like they're wandering because the Oakland Colosseum was in the round. My ticket was $50, a lot of money then, all the way in the stratosphere. It was said later that Frank organized this to get Dean out of his house and out of his depression. It didn't work. He got booed for being inaudible. The reviews speculated he was drugged and in pain, possibly wearing a back brace. Biographers later said Frank chewed Dean out for singing badly. Dean made one more appearance on the tour, then had his valet pack up and take him back home. At one point in the show, Dean said loudly, "I wanna go home" and I don't think it was a scripted joke. The only one who didn't disappoint was Sammy.
This video is v sad/touched. I can hardly watch through the end. Wiseman said: A friend inneed is a friend indeed. Thank you for your works. Take care, everyone.
Poor Dean my Idol.. My Father was a very strong man, happy, sad but always vibrant. He went out the same way. ALS got him and it hurts me even now. Im 56 now. All our Idols go away. Look at Clint Eastwood now men. Soon he will pass. More sad indeed.
I don't think that Dean Martin was ever comfortable doing this Rat Pack tour. I saw Dean Martin in concert in November 1988 after he left the Rat Pack tour. He was back to his usual self in Las Vegas doing a playlist that had not changed since 1983. It was a good concert. The magic was still there.
The greatest crowd was for Dino when he started singing Volare. In the subsequent concerts (Seattle, Vancouver and Chicago) his performances were better.
The man was standing there without soul, and people expected him to dance around! He’s just lost one of his son not that long ago. For goodness sake! This’s a big mistake. Shouldn’t try to drag him out there (on stage) for the very first place. This shouldn’t happen. He simply could not cope with the situation. Watching this video with tears, every time. I loved the man and his music/work, and with my admiration. Always have Always will.
@@usaneebeilles9510 After a brief period of disbelief and mourning, Frank went back to work after his mother got killed in the same mountain range as Dean-Paul. And Frank was the ultimate Mama's boy. Frank didn't realize Dean was different. It's also possible Dean felt guilt. Superstars often spend very little time parenting. They're busy, and, as was often the case with dads in the 1950s and 1960s, left home matters to the wife.
@@akrenwinkle I got your viewpoint, and believed that you understood, people can takes tragedy/ a happy surprises, differently. Besides, the mentality- Dean is v fragile, while Frank is tough and strong. (This's quite easy to see/noticed when they sing a love song) Well, different person different opinions. Good health to you, and 🙂Have a Happy Easter.
No son patéticos, son leyendas, Dean Martin había perdido un hijo en un accidente de avión y nunca se recuperó. Busca videos de los años 60 y lo verás en todo su esplendor.

I was there for this one…Frank and Sammy were excellent but Dean was never the same after his son’s death.. Sinatra’s solo segment was supremely good…
Sammy’s on FIRE!!!
Fabulous, ❤️
Thanks🥺

Ouch!
DEAN WAS DOING VERY BADLY. WHAT A PITY.
Probably because he had just lost his son, Dean Paul Martin. I think it really took a toll on him.
