I've been riding the original X for a little over 2 years. The frame alone is worth the price and the customer service is top notch from them. I did upgrade my brakes to hydraulic and switch the microshift 1x to a shimano 2x for more range. I've put over 1500 miles on gravel roads, everything from dirt/grass to fist size rocks. Also, I did switch to a carbon wheelset and went tubeless. I'd buy another Poseidon in a heart beat.
Great conversation and review of the Poseidon. I’ve been eyeing it up. Thanks for going over the Walmart bike too. That’s a decent bike especially for the money. There is an active community for the Ozark Trail G1 for upgrades and support. Good to see that type of thing in the bike community. Thanks for sharing!
I got an Ozark Trail GR1. It had a tiny scratch on it and they discounted it to $210 for me when I asked. Didn’t ride the bike at all and ended up returning it. It just didn’t give that visceral feeling that my other bikes give me. Also, it felt slightly small for me, even though I could have gotten a different stem and it would have probably been fine. The Poseidons have always interested me though.
I got the original X . The seat was painful and I did not really like the small block 8 tires that came on it., but for thin tires they were better than expected on dirt. Now I have 38 mm tires by Finnci that are thick, heavy and stiff but properly inflated roll well on pavement; $60/pair.Walmart carries compressionless cable package for $9.96 and I swapped them out . I have never used hydraulic brakes so compared to my cantilever rim breaks on my old Trek bikes , these are fine now. I use the bike mostly on hard packed dirt and pavement. For 8 months I had no car and rode it everywhere.Overall, I have been very satisfied.
I have the orginal poseidon x before the ambition. Awesome bike i love it. I did swap the brakes on mine and i have the dropbar version. I'm glad you did the comparison to Ozarka trail bike because i was curious how the two stacked up against each other. Great video. Poseidon also has a mountain bike called Norton hope you get one to share your thoughts and comparison.
I've loved mine. I own 3. One med and two LG. Med is my commuter decked out crazy lights and continental contact plus tires with reflective sidewalls . 42"s. I ride in the dark alot on that one. Mon thru Friday.
Thanks for this video! I have a 2021 X and I love it! I'm finally getting around to upgrading the tires to Specialized Pathfinder Pros so I'm going to take the opportunity to upgrade the quick release axles to the straight through axles. Thanks for the motivation!
Don’t bother with that Ozark g1. Weighs a ton and shifting is bottom of the barrel alibaba. Also calls for compression less brake housing and a bypass of final zip tie mount for rear housing leading up to the brake caliper as it puts a sharp bend on cable causing brake levers not to fully retract.
I have the dropbar version and love it. Upgraded to compressionless housing and the braking is much better. Changed the front chainring to a 44 from the 38 and it gave me the little extra on the top end that was much needed for the flatter areas. Overall great bike!
I have the Poseidon X w/ thru axle and I like it, especially for the price. It doesn’t feel as good as my past road/ cyclocross bikes (Felt F75, Felt F55, Felt F65x) but it does the job.
this bike is in my wish list. I kinda think "the bike business is in crisis", is bs. these companies, especially huge ones, like giant, can make good sub $1000 bikes. they just don't want to. there's no incentive for them to as long as were writing checks for $3000 for an entry level bike, they'll keep selling them. what should happen is ppl get some common sense & take a step back & realize their grossly over paying for these products, albeit bikes, phones, vehicles etc. regardless of the brand name; specialized, iPhone, chevy, their still put together in a countries that hate our guts, made by children in sweat shops. Even if they're put together well. then they're shipped here so some over paid douche bag can bolt it together and call it American. We've turned into the worlds, worst, irresponsible consumers.

Nice looking bike. I would take the Ozark for a ride also. Might have to look at one next time I'm in Wally World.
I don't get the top tube shape reducing standover height. Looks nice though.

Nice hands on review. Its a bike i keep thinking about but hesitant fearing a harsh ride and poor build. Perhaps I'm wrong.
love my flatbar x!
Currently cross shopping this with the Trek Dual Sport 2 Gen 5 and Sirrus X 3.0.
I still have no clue which direction I’m going in.
If you can, test ride both. It's all about the fit and how it rides. Then look into used for comparison.
The FX 2 2023 is a 2X and a 9 speed.

You can aftermarket a double on these frames.
