Most of the time when people sue they're just doing it for money and it makes me mad. However this guy deserves every last dollar he gets. I can't even imagine the pain this poor man went through.
I’m an anesthesiologist and once I had a patient going under general anesthesia to an urological surgery. I was misled by a malfunctioning conscience monitor that made me believe the patient was being harmed by the amount of inhaled anesthetic I was giving to him, despite it being an usual amount. I made the decision to reduce it, but, given the patient was paralyzed, I also guaranteed to give him more than enough anesthetic for pain, which does not harm the brain like the inhaled anesthetics can. I did not end the case because my shift was over, but later on I was told by the surgical team the patient reported being conscious. So I went to talk to him to explain what had happened and fortunately he was very calm and understanding. He told me he heard all my remarks to the surgical team on how I was worried about his safety and that, despite being awake and paralyzed, he didn’t feel any pain. That was a huge relief, not only because of the obvious potential legal implications, but mainly because the whole purpose of my job is to take patients as safely and as comfortably as possible through surgery. It was a great lesson on how trusting too much in technology can trick us.
Yes me too ! This will be my second new fear in the last three weeks. If you haven’t researched death by rabies in humans check it out. It’s definitely something to keep you up at night.
@@sonic176yt7Yeah, the news doesn’t report on the hundreds of thousands of people put under anesthetics successfully everyday, but the one time someone fucks up it’s all over the news, I really hope nobody genuinely develops a fear from this.
Tell me about it, I shouldn’t have ever watched this. I lost a lot of faith in the medical community over the last 2 years. I was scheduled to get surgery a few months ago, got to the hospital and right before I went into the operating room I told them to unhook me and reschedule I was so scared but prior to that I’ve had maybe 10 other surgeries and didn’t care before.

@@UKsystems ....what? what are you replying to here, all I said was i agree'd that the Anesthesiologist should get SOME form of punishment since that poor guy was LITERALLY tortured
I had a procedure done just over 20 years ago where they said I "wouldn't be under general anesthesia but would be so out of it, that I wouldn't remember a thing". They were wrong, because not only was I fully alert, but had tears running down my face as I told them several times how badly it was hurting me. They blew me off, saying it wouldn't be long before they were through, and they kept on going without even giving me anything for pain! So I can't imagine how bad it was for this guy, and I hope he wins his case. The medical professionals who don't pay attention to what they're doing and those who ignore a patient who's supposed to "be out of it", need to have a reality check!
Most people are unaware that anesthesia doesn’t mean pain meds. Sedation doesn’t mean pain meds. Analgesics are pain meds and without them you feel everything. Sedation just causes relaxation and amnesia (you stop forming memories) so you don’t remember the pain you experienced during the procedure… A fact sheet should be provided prior to giving informed consent.
Same here the procedure Was only maybe tops 5/6 mins but the whole time I’m supposed to be in “twilight” well I was fulllly awake and kept saying umm ur starting I’m still wide awake the nurse just kept telling me it’s ok ur almost done I was SO mad after that I just wanted to get out of there so bad
Lots of patients used to be half awake during colonoscopies (I'm a nurse) and only IF their oxygen and BP were ok could we give more safely. Much better now with propofol. Incidentally, these are done wide awake in most European countries, we're spoiled here in the US.
That happened to me in 1981 before an appendectomy. It was terrifying to be completely paralyzed yet I could hear everything the staff were saying as they prepped me for surgery. I was screaming in my mind that I was awake. I began to fear that I was going to endure the entire surgery while conscious, but just as the surgeon came in the room, I finally went under. I have had several surgeries since then and each time I tell that story to the anesthesiologist so they will know to be extra vigilant.
That sounds awful, maybe they realised you weren't fully anesthetised and did something to make sure you were? Glad you didn't experience the surgery at least. It sounds a lot like when you get sleep paralysis and you're fully conscious but can't move at all and it's quite unpleasant even while being laid in bed.
I have been out under at least 20 times it is the best feeling in the world. The calmness that I feel before surgery is like a trained response to going under. But they give you stuff before you get into the OR and they are supposed to talk you through to to the moment of lights out and the reason they do this is to know that you are anesthetized before they deliver the other meds
I had the same happen in 92. I couldn’t move my arms and I could feel the entire c-section. I screamed and screamed (in my head) . I asked God , please let me die or let me go to sleep. It went black . I woke up in icu. I told them , I felt it All .They kept saying no no . Then I told her what they talked about . She walked out.
That sounds awful. I’m really sorry that happened to you. In fact, I’m sorry that happened to anyone - I couldn’t even imagine what you went through and I hope I never do.
In 1982, I woke up on the operating table during gallbladder surgery. Thank God I didn’t feel any pain, but I could see and hear the going’s in. I couldn’t move my body, but my eyes glanced down to my torso being completely open and bloody rags hanging out of me in the table. No one was looking at me. The nurses and doctors were having a conversation about something and laughing. All of a sudden I heard the anesthesiologist say, “SHES COMING OUT OF IT!” and they quickly adjusted my mask and I was out. They must have turned up the “juice” because after that I was out like a light. *I feel for this poor fellow. I hope he wins his case.

Had a non- cancerous tumor removed inside my breast under local anesthesia. Half way through the procedure the anesthesia wears off and the surgeon realizes that the growth is embedded deeper in the breast tissue than anticipated. I felt every incision the laser knife thingy made, the pulling, the smell of burned flesh...it's a miracle I haven't been mentally scarred.

For years, he suffered from night terrors that were horrific. He has, over the years dealt with severe anxiety and panic attacks. He is currently 35 years old. He has learned how to control his anxiety most of the time. I have done some research on this problem and have found it is more common place than people think it is. This happened to my mother years ago. It was a beyond horrific experience for her. She could feel all of the pain, and could even hear them joking and making fun of her. She also felt tears going down into her hairline and scalp, and knows they had to have seen her crying, and seen her heart rate go up, but they continued with the surgery. These days, people can sue the doctors and facility. She never thought of litigating against them, because she couldn’t afford the attorney fees, and only the very wealthy sued for such a thing back then.
She remembers their conversations and jokes, too. When she confronted the doctor about it at her follow up visit, the doctor was very apathetic and said something like, “sometimes that happens”. It’s been decades and I’m sure those people have had to meet The Maker and do some explaining.
As an anesthesiologist, some patients will report to me that they’ve had awareness during some prior procedure. I take all reports of prior complications seriously and always want to know more. After all, none of us want any complications. But, after further questioning, in nearly all cases, it usually seems to be a sedation case where the patient came to a bit. For example, certain cases only require low to moderate sedation (eg cataract surgery, , bunionectomy, lipoma excision, etc). For those, it’s not unusual for some patients to recall bits and pieces (conversation, mild discomfort, lights, etc). Unfortunately, many of these patients are led to believe that they’d be “out” or completely asleep when that’s just not the case. That said, if you’ve had a procedure in which you were aware of what was happening and it was distressing, make sure to tell your anesthesiologist. I know I’d make damn sure it wouldn’t happen again. This particular case described in the video is something else entirely. It’s a huge screw up and he needs to be compensated. The anesthesiologist (the anesthesia doctor) was likely not in the room during the episode of awareness. We are there just during then beginning of the anesthetic (“induction”) and then leave the patient in the care of the CRNA (aka “nurse anesthetist”). Still, the doc and nurse are both responsible for what happens to their patient. This is why i do all my own cases. I don’t want to be responsible for anyone else’s intraoperative management decisions. This poor guy. A clear cut case of awareness. I hope he wins. (He probably will). Still won’t have been worth it.
Thanks I have a little more knowledge on how Anasthesia works for different procedures. I have had several colonoscopies in my life and the last two I had I was awake. The first one I remember waking up half way through and it was very scary and of course painful. The last one I had was done at University and they were unable to knock me out during the whole procedure. I remember trying to tell them to give me more medication or to stop but the procedure was quick and they couldn't give me more meds because I already had a high tolerance. In fear of me slipping into a coma they couldn't do it. I had been on strong narcotics for my pain for several years and they told me that some people who have high tolerance to narcotics can be difficult to knock out during colonoscopy procedures and since it a low to moderate kind of Anasthesia. I couldn't imagine being awake during one of my emergency surgeries which was a partial bowel removal.
Hollzie everything you say is correct. Patients who have been taking narcotics (and other types of meds) for a while can be resistant to the medications typically given during a colonoscopy. But there are 2 types of sedation that differ by who is administering the meds. The first is frequently called “conscious sedation” and is given by the endoscopy RN under the direction of the GI doc. This is a lighter (less deep) type of sedation since they are multitasking. The other type (called MAC for “monitored anesthesia care”) is given by an anesthesiologist or CRNA. The difference is substantial. First, we are experts is dealing with the side effects of the meds (eg respiratory depression) so we’re much more comfortable giving doses that are more likely to ensure lack of awareness. We are also only focusing on the sedation and the patient’s safety and comfort. Lastly, we are trained and authorized to give more powerful medications (most notably propofol) that the endoscopy folks can’t give. That makes a huge difference. There’s a lot more to it but I’m rambling so I’ll stop. But I’d be happy to answer any questions anyone has.
Just did a massive look into this, he never got payed a dime for malpractice. The suit is still ongoing almost 3 years later and he got literally nothing from it. The fact that Doctors can get away with stuff like this, with zero repercussions, is actually insane.

I was nervous, but I was about to move states and rescheduling would have been a nightmare. That wasn’t the problem though. In prep for my big move, I got two cavities filled in the same week by my local dentist. Thank God the appendectomy didn't last long and when the succinylcholine wore off I was able to ask for dilaudid.
Wait, they only used succinylcholine on you, and told you it was an anesthetic? It’s a skeletal muscle relaxant, classified as a paralytic not a sedative. It’s meant to be used in conjunction with sedatives, to ensure that intubation goes smoothly and no muscles involuntarily twitch during surgery…meaning it could not and would not work as a sedative. To quote FDA.gov, “Succinylcholine is a depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant…Succinylcholine chloride is indicated as an adjunct to general anesthesia, to facilitate tracheal intubation, and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation”. I work in sterile processing and clean all the tools y’all use and man so much heavy metal and drills and how sharp the stuff is and not to mention I clean them right after the surgery and see all the bits and pieces. I could not imagine the horror he went through 😢
I feel strongly the need to comment on this. Years ago I went to a dental office to have a dental surgery procedure. I was also supposed to be under general anesthesia. But like this man I felt, I heard, I experienced every single thing that the dental surgeon did. I felt incisions I felt when he used a type of pliers to crush the teeth and extract them. I felt them rip out. I felt them stitching up my jaw. In my mind I was screaming I wanted to die right there. I could not move could not speak I could not react. The experience was so overwhelming and horrific that I never again went to a dentist. I would rather experience all the worst toothaches and I let my teeth rot out rather than risk ever experiencing anything like that again. I woke whimpering in my wife's arms. I tried to explain what I experienced I was just met with everyone saying I was imagining it. I was not imagining it and forever changed my life. I didn't even know you could sue somebody over that or even how. watching the story brought back a flood of memories I would've rather have forgotten.
That poor poor guy.... I remember reading about a very similar case with an older man who came out of a "successful" surgery in a mute/comatose like state with severe memory loss and extreme emotional/psychological trauma/distress. The doctors and medical staff totally played dumb and said they had no idea why it was happening. So quite a bit of time is going by and despite seeing many experts/doctors there was still little to no improvement to his emotional/psychological/mental health. Until one day while receiving hypnotherapy his memory starts to painfully/traumatically return and they finally figured out what happened. Apparently the same thing happened to him but during a much longer and more invasive surgery. He was completely paralyzed but still wide awake and able to feel EVERYTHING for HOURS but the pain and extreme distress was so so severe that his mind did everything it could to block it out and caused IMMENSE emotional/mental/psychological trauma. It later came out that the doctors/staff knew what happened but tried to cover it up and the family sued for millions. That story has always stuck with me and makes me absolutely terrified to ever go under the knife..

I feel like I have also heard this story, and later the guy unalived himself because of the immense psychological distress and not remembering where this distress is coming from since the docs put him in amnesia, so that he forgets everything happened in the surgery, which made him forget the surgical procedure but not the immense pain Poor guy, hearing his story hurt my soul Maybe you're talking about the different guy tho There should be some kind of specific law for these kind of mishandlings, so that the docs take it more seriously and these cases never happen
@@angelicasysnila5476 yes i immediately thought of this case when i read op's comment, actually i always think of this case it was so haunting. yeah, the poor soul had no recollection of why he was traumatized and his family was completely helpless left to watch him end his own life

I was awake during surgery on my face. I will live with the trauma the rest of my life. 24/7/365. The doctor got off scot free. To be awake and not be able to move, scream, fight-back, or escape is insane. It was supposed to be a biopsy which was never done. Will you please consider going to the media? I have this gut feeling that this is happening more often because doctors are afraid to oversedate (and accidentally kill their patients), so they undersedate and accidentally cause horrific situations like yours.

My granddad went through the same thing. He was an HV electrician working on a substation in a section, that was supposed to be all powered down, however, not all of it was shut off and he got burned badly by 6kV ark. When he was delivered to a burn center hospital, he needed a skin transplantation. He was given sedative and narcosis, except narcosis didn’t work. He realized it when he was able to hear everything around him. First thought that crossed his mind is to draw surgical team’s attention by wiggling his index finger. But the sedative was working, so muscles wouldn’t contract. He heard how surgeons pace around, yell and curse. Then they started removing the skin from healthy parts, and it was extremely painful so after some time he lost consciousness. When the surgery was over, he told the hospital stuff that the anesthesia didn’t work. They didn’t believe him, and then he retold them everything he heard in the operation room.
Omg this is terrifying. Reading through the comments It's so scary seeing how many times this has happened. This is my worst nightmare. I'm so sorry to him and anyone else who's experienced this. He is owed every penny he has sued for. This is absolutely traumatizing!
I woke up during my surgery when I was 6 and I opened my eyes and looked around and the Anesthesiologist was texting and I heard him say “oh shit she’s awake “and then I fell back asleep and woke up crying because I could feel everything
Geez, that’s terrible. Did your parents ever find out what happened? I sure as hell would’ve told them after something terrifying like that. Hope they sued as well because the way you described it sounds like something went awry
The fact the anesthesiologist was on his phone and not paying attention to you and only you is extreme negligence. Phones are not allowed in the OR under any circumstances for this reason. I had medical staff forget to turn equipment on during my C section and I found myself also unable to speak after 8 epidural attempts. No one did anything to help me as I struggled to breath until my husband said “hey is she meant to be going blue like that?”
Recently I had a surgery for my hip to remove part of a tumor that had been causing massive pain whenever I brushed against something or laid on that side. Beforehand I had been searching things about anesthesia and was so dang anxious and worried about something like this happening. When the surgery actually happened everything went well, thank God. I feel so bad for this guy, I can’t imagine how horrible that must’ve been.
I woke up during my surgery but I felt no pain. This was when I was 11 and I nearly ruined it because I began moving my head. I kept on seeing everything as cats so I would just try to pet the doctors.

I went through this in 2003 and the Dr realized and started screaming at the anesthesiologist and The Dr rubbed my arm and was trying to comfort me. I sobbed for hours after. The anesthesiologist blamed me!! I have had so many surgeries since then and always tell them what happened before. I didn't know at that time you could sue them because I would have!

This happened to my dad in the mid-90s and has always been one of my worst fears. I hate clicking on these kinds of videos bc it stirs up this fear but I think it's important to know this has and does still happen.
I’ve awakened twice under general anesthesia. Turns out there’s one particular anesthetic to which my body doesn’t react normally. The first time, no one believed me despite the fact that I could tell the doctor several things he said during the surgery. The second time (different surgeon, different hospital), the doctors did believe me and deduced that the anesthetic they used wasn’t completely effective for me. The anesthesiologist from the second surgery told me that in the future I should say I’m allergic to that anesthetic, because then there’s no chance they’ll use it. Thankfully, both of the surgeries that I was having were relatively minor, and they were both nearly over when I woke up so I didn’t have to feel what they were doing for long. I had also been given drugs to calm me beforehand, so I was pretty relaxed. Still, it’s not fun waking up when a doctor has a bunch of tools and hoses and stuff sticking up your nose (one surgery was on my sinuses).
happened to me during an appendectomy 25 years ago, 3ish minutes of full awareness as a child. as well as needing 3 times the dose of sedative during a "not completely out" procedure 8 years ago, where i never lost awareness one bit. no one believed me then or now. the trauma from these experiences have mentally crippled me for literally as long as i can remember. my heart feels for this man
If your profile pic is you, it looks like you might be a redhead? It is quite commonly known in medicine now that redheads, for reasons unknown, require higher doses of anaesthesia and analgesia. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Paralysed but unable to move is literally living through a scary dream but in real life. The feeling of helplessness is worse than the pain. Man should get justice
I feel so horrible for him, they should have noticed. I had a similar experience when I was seven, of course it's nowhere near that since the doctor's didn't care to numb me or put me to sleep or paralyze me and just stitched the wound, but I know how horrifying and horrible this is, especially since he couldn't even fight back or resist
I could never compare my situation this this but I did wake up during my wisdom tooth removal. I felt them yanking & I felt sharp intense pain & put my hands up to stop the doctor while going “Ow ow ow” I was given more medication immediately & was knocked right back out for the rest of the procedure. Very scary in the moment I could feel the pain & wasn’t very aware of what was happening. I couldn’t imagine being fully aware & in pain through something like this guy went through.
In most countries you're awake for wisdom tooth removal. I had three surgeries to remove them while awake, and I have a genetic condition that makes me extremely tolerant to pain meds, so it was very painful. I remember the first time closing my fist so hard and every muscle in my boy being painfully tense. My second doctor did a much better job, it was just uncomfortable but not as painful.

They all just shut up and said it’s time to finish. I remember l was choking on the tube they had placed down my throat when in the recovery room and uncontrollably upset l couldn’t stop my body from doing what it was doing. I was told that the aesthetic doctor was training a young aesthetics student and she didn’t put the cannula in my arm properly. Not one person believed me they said l made it up. Since that happened l have had to have more operations over the years l was so scared and cried every time just saying don’t let me wake up. I am 66 years old now l still get nervous before operations l always tell all the doctors what happened to me especially the aesthetic doctor’s. I never suede them because l was so young scared and innocent no one believed me. But if l knew then what l know now l would have suede them for everything l could get. I had no support from anyone back then my husband didn’t believe me and the doctor that did the operation was just a general surgeon and had never done this operation before he had only watched being done once. But after listening to your video l wonder if they didn’t sedate me properly either like that young man with not turning on the gas. Being pregnant for the 1st time started the varicose veins age 19 and my legs and groin went blue black with these big veins like grapes in some places the pain and aking was unbearable at times and then l knew straight away at 2 weeks that l was pregnant for the second time it was worse this time the veins were larger and so painful. After the birth l could be up standing or doing anything for more than ten minutes so eight weeks after giving birth l had to have this operation the doctors told and l could not have anymore pregnancies either because of thrombosis and clots. I was 22 years old then. I eventually had a hysterectomy because l was suffering from adenomyosis you don’t stop bleeding with your periods and the gynaecologist said my uterus was full of varicose veins. In the old days women died from adenomyosis.
WOW, I had that happen to me during a colonoscopy in 2014. I was wide awake and I kept telling the doctor that hurts and but never phased him. I watched the whole procedure. I’ve had many colonoscopies with the same doctor until he retired and the only choice I had was my new doctor. Even when they took me to recovery the nurse in there made the comment, “she’s mighty awake” and I made the comment back “ I’ve never been asleep”. Right then I decided to never do another.
This happened to me also during a colonoscopy, but could not communicate this because back in 2001 they gave you a drug that temporarily paralyzed you to where you could not move nor speak, but felt everything; it felt like I was having the most excruciating lower back labor pains like I had with our daughter. When it was all over and I could speak, I told the doctor and he had the audacity of telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about. I have not had a colonoscopy since. When I had an endoscopy at the same place around the same time, I had no problems going to sleep. This doctor’s arrogance was as bad as his failure to not have me totally sedated. I have heard this happens more than we know; have also heard a group of physicians in some health management group want to start using less anesthesia due to the cult of CLIMATE CHANGE. This is a horror to even contemplate.
Colonoscopies are NOT under a general anaesthetic though. It is under sedation. You will never receive enough to make you stop breathing and unconscious which is what happens with a general anaesthetic.
They call it "conscious sedation". I had my colonoscopy at the hospital I worked for. Conscious sedation doesn't require a breathing tube, allowing your body to breathe naturally. You do have an o2 nasal cannula. Versed was given so I wouldn't remember anything and propofol for relaxation, anesthesia, and sedation. I did not remember anything and that is exactly how conscious sedation is supposed to go for colonoscopy.
This happens. Yes. I have 20 yrs of stories Ex Heart and Trauma Surgery RN, BSN, CNOR and former Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) I cannot tell you how many times Anesthesia is reading a book, on the phone, listening to earbuds, playing crossword or simply chatting up the surgeon and not watching patient vitals or anything! Nurses are bullied into silence.

They were wrong, because not only was I fully alert, but had tears running down my face as I told them several times how badly it was hurting me. @Barbara Melville And it hurt like hell, too!
Most people are unaware that anesthesia doesn’t mean pain meds. Sedation doesn’t mean pain meds. Analgesics are pain meds and without them you feel everything. Sedation just causes relaxation and amnesia (you stop forming memories) so you don’t remember the pain you experienced during the procedure…

I have been out under at least 20 times it is the best feeling in the world. The calmness that I feel before surgery is like a trained response to going under.
Still won’t have been worth it.
but eveybody else said they didnt remember or feel anything 😢 im going to die tm
Even if it only requires a moderate amount I would give extra amount anyway just to ensure nobody wakes up
Katie Tran to be honest, that’s what most of us do (as long as it’s safe).

I was nervous, but I was about to move states and rescheduling would have been a nightmare. That wasn’t the problem though. In prep for my big move, I got two cavities filled in the same week by my local dentist. During those fillings we learned that I am more resistant to numbing agents, and I ended up needing a double dose for both fillings. When I went into the room for my wisdom teeth, I told him this. He ignored my request and said that he was giving me so many shots already that it would be enough.
It was not enough.
It was muted, but could still feel him working, especially in my bottom molars. It hurt. I tried to tell him. Through my tears and numbing and the cotton, I mustered an “ow”. When I was a kid, had a lot of uti's and infections. When I was in my early 20's, found a weird lump where my prolapse now sits, now I suspect it may have been the start of my prolapse issues. No doctor could tell me at the time what it was, so that's my theory. A few years later, I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, which when symptoms flare, feels exactly like a uti and is really uncomfortable. Thankfully when I was pregnant, all of the symptoms vanished for me. I was lucky in that. So for me, I think it may all be an anatomical issue, considering the history, and with the really strong pushing that comes with giving birth, my organs just dropped.
Shocked that the hospital even admitted they fucked up
Me too.
Glad for him they did
There is a study that found out when doctors apologise for a medical malpractice they are more likely to pay less for damages.

I feel like I have also heard this story, and later the guy unalived himself because of the immense psychological distress and not remembering where this distress is coming from since the docs put him in amnesia, so that he forgets everything happened in the surgery, which made him forget the surgical procedure but not the immense pain
Poor guy, hearing his story hurt my soul
Maybe you're talking about the different guy tho
There should be some kind of specific law for these kind of mishandlings, so that the docs take it more seriously and these cases never happen
@@angelicasysnila5476 yes i immediately thought of this case when i read op's comment, actually i always think of this case it was so haunting. yeah, the poor soul had no recollection of why he was traumatized and his family was completely helpless left to watch him end his own life

I was awake during a septoplasty and turbinate reduction. The Doctors did everything right...but I could still feel everything and I tried so hard to sceam because the pain was indescribable, but I couldnt do anything. No one should ever have to go through it.

This is unimaginable. You have to tell your story. Find a news channel or at least an internet site where you can post your story. You got to help this from ever happening again. I am truly horrified and sorry for your pain.
Please reach out. You shouldn’t be going through this without any kind of justice.

Damn he got skinned alive

The fact the anesthesiologist was on his phone and not paying attention to you and only you is extreme negligence.

I had medical staff forget to turn equipment on during my C section and I found myself also unable to speak after 8 epidural attempts. No one did anything to help me as I struggled to breath until my husband said “hey is she meant to be going blue like that?”
This is EXACTLY why you should always have someone there to advocate for you.
That’s why you don’t take the epidural! Too many things can go wrong. Just deal with the pain and ride it out.
Recently I had a surgery for my hip to remove part of a tumor that had been causing massive pain whenever I brushed against something or laid on that side. „It was like torture“ it WAS torture
Still, it’s not fun waking up when a doctor has a bunch of tools and hoses and stuff sticking up your nose (one surgery was on my sinuses).
happened to me during an appendectomy 25 years ago, 3ish minutes of full awareness as a child. as well as needing 3 times the dose of sedative during a "not completely out" procedure 8 years ago, where i never lost awareness one bit. no one believed me then or now. the trauma from these experiences have mentally crippled me for literally as long as i can remember. my heart feels for this man
I believe you
If your profile pic is you, it looks like you might be a redhead? It is quite commonly known in medicine now that redheads, for reasons unknown, require higher doses of anaesthesia and analgesia. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

Paralysed but unable to move is literally living through a scary dream but in real life. The feeling of helplessness is worse than the pain. Man should get justice
My heart breaks for you. I am glad you are alive.
Damn what surgery was it?
I could never compare my situation this this but I did wake up during my wisdom tooth removal. I felt them yanking & I felt sharp intense pain & put my hands up to stop the doctor while going “Ow ow ow” I was given more medication immediately & was knocked right back out for the rest of the procedure. Very scary in the moment I could feel the pain & wasn’t very aware of what was happening. I couldn’t imagine being fully aware & in pain through something like this guy went through.
I was awake during my wisdom tooth removal it was fast and a weird sensation.
bro, now I'm scared to get my wisdom teeth removed

It took me years to get over what had happened to me the nightmares.
Also, it is the anesthetist' or Doctor's job to tell you what to expect with every procedure/surgery you have. 😉
