I love were you are talking about canning your own tomatoes but can't because your so busy. This is actually SO important to talk about. So many mothers feel like they need to do it all or they are less then...it is ok to go ahead and buy something premade (like the tomato sauce you are talking about) and remember that this is a season of your life. It will change ❤️

THIS! I love canning tomatoes but if I am short on time I'd rather preserve other vegetables that are either harder to find organic or more expensive...canned tomatoes are neither of those things.

If you don't have time to preserve your tomatoes, you can core the top and score the bottom and stick them in the freezer for later! It saves you having to blanch them because the peels come right off once they thaw a little. It was a game changer for me last year!

I use plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. I can’t taste a difference. I was surprised you put your potatoes and onions in the fridge. I keep those separate out of the fridge. I’ve found that if I keep the onions in a paper grocery bag with a handle and hang it on my side door because it’s a cool area without a lot of light. They keep a lot longer.

I really enjoyed watching this and always knew my mother was an extremely organized person almost down to OCD but as I was growing up my mom worked full time my dad worked full-time and formed part-time with my grandpa. All three of us kids were born within 4 years, I was the oldest so I have memories of some of these that my sister and my brother don't. Mom didn't make Kiefer or bread but she did make cottage cheese and butter for us. She canned quite a lot. This would have been before the days of microwaves and things to thaw or anything like that. We grew a pretty good size garden. Main things we can were tomatoes green beans corn (because the freezer was full of meat) and fruit normally peaches were the high priority but anything else they could get their hands on there was an old apple orchard in the back of the farm that hadn't really been taken care of for years so we got a lot of applesauce from that. I do remember my mom and my grandma's even my aunt getting together for work days to can some of these basic vegetables. It wasn't just a fun day for us kids I remember I was put to work washing canning jars my one grandma would pack Green being jars because she could always get more in a jar of the mom ever could. Good memories but if you're close to your family maybe you could have a work day type thing to help you out occasionally. Everyone would bring a little food it would be like a potluck type deal to feed everyone at lunch and sometimes even at supper time. Bigger kids would watch littler ones and kind of supervise until some of the older kids were able to help or tried to help. Tried to have picking done prior so it was just snapping beans and that kind of stuff. Was amazing and fun and got a lot of things done on those days. I'm sure it helped everyone out a lot everyone usually took some canned goods home. One Grandma usually came back the next day to make sure things went in and out of the canner as they were supposed to for any leftovers that didn't get done in the first day. Just a good memory I'm sorry I talked so long and I thought that maybe you and your sister could do or maybe a friend I don't know what's available. Really enjoy your videos newer subscriber and you're definitely a keeper.

I don’t grow tons of tomatoes because of where I live. Also canning supplies are hard/very expensive to come by. For those reasons I didn’t can any tomatoes last year. I put some in the freezer, which worked great (didn’t even decore them). But freezer space is precious. I also dehydrated sliced tomatoes, which for me is probably the way to go. I can turn them into a powder and add to stews and sauces or rehydrate and blend with an immersion blender before adding. Of course not as convenient as canned, but tasty and fairly easy. Also, if you have a decent size dehydrator it’s pretty quick and easy to preserve this way - and it stores in a smaller space. 😊

I love watch when I saw potatoes in the fridge I wondered why? I’ve always heard cool dark place. I researched and found this.Potatoes should be kept somewhere cool and dry but not in the fridge. This is because putting potatoes in the fridge can increase the amount of sugar they contain, this could lead to higher acrylamide levels when the potatoes are roasted, baked or fried at high temperatures.

I keep onions, garlic, potatoes and unwashed eggs all in the pantry. There’s no way it would fit in my fridge!!
Love the content, as always !!

Onions in the fridge make them easier to peel - I don't cry if I have to chop a lot of onions and they're cold. And garlic and potatoes don't sprout as quickly if I store in the fridge. I don't go through them fast enough sometimes. Yeah, unwashed eggs should never be stored in a fridge - not safe.

same here, no need to refrigerate onions and potatoes

Onions and potatoes are supposed to be kept in a cool, dark place. Not in fridge unless they are cut/chopped.

Same I could never fit them in our standard size fridge. I don’t have a problem with onions storing in the pantry. Potatoes do fine in the pantry in the winter here in SC but in the summer I have to go through them quickly so they don’t sprout or rot 😝

@@mum2jka everything i've read says unwashed eggs store in the fridge up to 3mo, once washed they dont last nearly as long in the fridge :) my sister in law and a friend of mine, they store theirs in the fridge just fine.

Interesting you put onions and potatoes in fridge. It changes the starch in potatoes and onions absorb odors. My mum told me this but I researched it as well.

One of my favorite videos of yours!! ❤️ I think it wasn't as much seeing what you all bought but the authenticity. I've seen you have home-canned jams but buy tomatoes so I liked your explanation. I mean you're only human. :) I've realized with food things I do what I enjoy and what saves us the most money/tastes the best, but I can't beat myself up over not doing all.the.things especially in the seasons of life where it's harder to do it all. Another mom of many vlogger seems to do everything but it's refreshing to see store bought items there too (and what she chooses to make and not make as well!). Just this week I had to remember I'm trying to do everything including taking care of a baby+2 other kiddos in less than 12 hrs (since she has been wanting us to hold her to sleep at night and most naps, not feeling well). I mean I'm not going to look back at life and be upset my floors weren't swept more, but I would be upset if I didn't squeeze my baby as much as I could while she still wants me to!
I also loved your meat explanations for needing fast and/or easy meals so ground meat and chicken breasts is the way to go! Would love to see more on kefir recipes and when you use what flours more (the bread flour vs grinding your own vs wheat vs einkorn, in your family's own recipes especially) as well as the cooking vinegars and oils you had there, and the date lady stuff(going to place an order soon!!) and what kinds of snacks you buy.
Thank you for all your wonderful content!! You have inspired so many homemakers and moms with your cooking and lifestyle! I know we are all eating so much better because of you. Thank you for using your gifting not only in your home but for all of us. 🙏❤️

This is my favorite kind of video and I'd love it if you'd do more of them. I discovered Thrive through you almost two years ago now and love, love buying groceries from them. I have several things that are my favorites from there. Azure is next for us so yes--do share more of these types of videos when you can.
