    I remember this. It wasn’t immediately after but it was around when Sandy Hook shooting made global headlines. I remember crying at the Brittany scene. Heather Morris deserved her flowers for this episode

    Most of Glee's episodes are silly, soapy, goofy television. Then, about once or twice a season, they hit you HARD. And they do it well.

    When this first came on, even though the lockdown scene was only about ten minutes, it felt like it was forever. They all delivered in this episode.

    A curiosity about this episode is that Brittany should have been shot, in the original script, and the character would die, due to the actress's pregnancy.
    Luckily, they were able to come up with a different arc for the character.

    Yeah... this episode caused a lot of controversy when it came out. Some people felt it was tone deaf and disrespectful to real victims of attacks on schools, especially since Sandy Hook had just happened and people were sensitive to that. Personally, I understand why they wrote it how they did: imagining what you would want to say if you were going to die versus the reality. And no one was hurt or died, which is how other shows have approached this topic. I'm not upset that they went for this story, but I think they could have handled the set up better. Add it to the list of sensitive subjects that the show has mishandled.

      Yea i was closely linked to ppl in sandy hook and lived really close and i will say, I didn’t like this episode at all. It’s just not the show to put something like that in and it felt like it was a last minute add on after all the news about Sandy hook. It didn’t feel genuine, it made me cringe quite a lot and still does. It was tone deaf. It wanted to address the issue of school shootings but still went back to jokes and being funny right after the incident and on top of that it wasn’t even a school shooting persé

      @@julissavalencia1751 that was my initial reaction, especially after I saw the follow up. This doesn't belong in Glee. I'm a little more accepting now of this particular episode, but overall it's in poor taste.

      @@jlerrickson One of the few things I liked about this episode was how out of the blue and how quick it all was. That part was realistic, I feel. Other shows don't have the level of intensity that this episode had when the shooting first started and how quick everything went, imo. They didn't handle a lot of the other things that well though, unfortunately. This episode could have been so great had they handled the ending better.

    This episode COULD'VE been a huge turning point for Glee, pushing it a little more toward some realism, but instead, Ryan Murphy and the writers decided to simultaneously do a school shooting episode with heart-wrenching acting AND make the episode completely non-consequential by chickening out of any lasting, meaningful effects.
    The choice to make the shooting story attack the viewer as quickly as they happen in real life was SUCH a great choice, but it pisses me off to no end that *this* is how Ryan decided to handle it.

    I have to appreciate the cinematography, direction, acting and pacing for this episode.
    When they showed Marley's mother hiding in the kitchen, potatoes scattered about and the pot boiling over, Tina outside trying to find out what's going on completely distraught, Britney and the two kids, one of which was a boy in the bathroom, to the metronome endlessly ticking. It gave you that sense of panic, anxiety and fear mixed with chaos and absolute dread.
    Top it off with Figgins switching over to no-nonsense mode and not delivering any of his usual clueless humor at all, giving so much weight to the episode as a whole.
    Becky's role was foreshadowed, but the gunshots were still completely unexpected.

    Hey! Just recently found your channel and I've binged through the whole Glee playlist, I'm so glad you're watching it all! It's so rare to find someone that watches entire shows that is also genuinely likable/doesn't get boring imo. I love your reactions, you seem like a genuinely good and funny person who puts a lot of thought into things and I love that you aren't afraid to show your emotions. I tend to tear up right along with you. I also love how your videos are edited, somehow despite them only being 15-20 minutes long it literally never feels like any of the episode is missing! Once I'm not a broke student anymore I'll definitely be joining your Patreon, though. Thanks so much for uploading these for us!

    This episode has some of the best acting, but overall was a little tone deaf on the issue, which is completely the writers'' fault. Their response was that despite having some drama, they never wanted Glee to fully embrace the darkness that surrounds the average teen dramas of the day, which is why they made the "shooting" play out the way it did. So, it could still end without the worry and fear that comes with a school shooting. Like I said, tone deaf on the writing, but the acting was some of the best of the season.

    This episode featured all the new cast and the remaining old cast and no NYC cast at all. And I loved it. I didn't like the whole cat fishing story line, but that's the writers/producers' fault. I have nothing against the NYC cast, but I know S05 will relegate these new folks into background singers pretty much and it annoyed me.

    Episode was stupid and the worst. BUT Travis's reaction was the best

  • @AnnaC130
    @AnnaC130 3 місяці тому

    I don't know why this show has been so cursed from its creation being one of the worst experiences for a lot of people on the acting (and maybe even other bts-) themes to what has happened to each and every one of them while and after then, especially those people are sad about they're no longer around. :/ Like, the whole concept was, what so many people w/sh/could have needed after a school experience that had just elements of all the themes it touched on, like I've never realized how long it actually aired on TV. From 2009-2015.
    A place for outcasts (anyone who ever was , would love that in an instance, especially if the wounds were still fresh back then), bullying with the slushy and generally having meanies while trying to get up your grades, being poor or at least not as wealthy as the others, LGBTQ+ feelings and issues too, like seriously you can't say they didn't try...to make something "good" as it's time.

    Exploitive, stupid ending and didn't even take a stance on gun violence.

    • @christianseibold3369
      @christianseibold3369 2 місяці тому

      I think it took an implicit stance against gun violence by showing how horrifying and intense the situation was, at least when it first began. I don't get how one *didn't* catch the stance on gun violence. It's blatantly obvious. I do think they messed up the latter half of the school shooting storyline though.
      I think it's going a bit far to say it's "exploitative". It was mishandled. That's not the same as exploitative at all.

    • @GA-fn8hr
      @GA-fn8hr 2 місяці тому

      @@christianseibold3369 well, the Sandy Hook families found it exploitive. Showing the horror of it's been done and is what you call obvious already. If you didn't know from 6 years old getting killed that it is horrifying, a musical comedy isn't going to help you. It felt more for ratings than a true statement to say stop gun violence or better yet a call for real action such as more gun control laws, ban high power guns etc.
