  • Footage of todays (17 Oct 2021) Kalamazoo Expo event. Attendance was way down. Very depressing. But still had a great time. Still quite a bit of vintage gear. I had a good time talking with friends, seeing the dusty rusty relics

Yeeeaaaah Terry! I hadn't been to any hamfest in years-maybe decades, and an old friend got into ham recently so we went to a few in recent months up/over here in Minnesota. Not much to see--not the days of old anyway but we still found bought some good/cool stuff. I remember HUGE events in large arenas that took us at LEAST an hour to walk completely through once "back in the day". Now sadly, it's mostly internet--commanding top dollar :( Glad to see your still out there covering these events!!!!!

At least you had somewhat of a HamFest. Haven't had my local one since 2019. Closest I can get is the local early learning center (daycare/preschool) sale held at the same firehouse/fairgrounds as the HamFest. But there's no good gear, just clothes, toys, and cheap jewelry. Almost like going to a GoodWill store.
Terry, those eCircuit USB extensions came from the Dollar Store. Hey, Ham's gotta eat too.

Thanks for showing us the Ham Fest ! I wouldn't have minded strolling thru it myself, a lot of good ham gear there. I would liked to have seen you buy that WRL GLOBE TROTTER Transmitter for $ 100.00 bucks and make a UA-cam video on fixing it up! I think I read somewhere they only made about 1500 of them.

Wow! @ 40:47 That little Hallicrafter, as a teen was my first buy into the HF world. Bought at a UK car boot sale came with a 240-120v transformer bare-bones not in a sealed box. Bloke would not sell me It until I explained what It all was. Used to listen to the ship to shore North east oil rigs, loved it! Happy times, I'm 50 now.

Over 2000 views in one day, wow! In person attendance so sad but it's going that way a lot of places. Would be nice to pair up the tables with a call sign in majority of the cases. One could contact the seller and make a deal. If 2000+ views in one day, certainly online sales is the way to go. Great video, enjoyed it a lot.

Congratulations for the video and your comments, but the pandemic is still hurting a lot of people, and hobbies end up being sidelined by greater needs, many people have lost jobs and are unemployed just like me, but I still love electronics and telecommunications...hugs py3sa.

Thanks Terry for showing the hamfest. I enjoyed it. I think the lower turnout was due to the pandemic. A lot of people there without masks. Yikes!

Every hamfest I have been to this year has been down at least 50% if not outright cancelled. It will take time for them to build back up. I bet Dayton Hamvention attendance will be really down when it resumes too.

OOoooo : I still have 1930s - 1960s equipment I have to go see Ken about !!!!! :-( .... And some I WISH I had tons of money to give him so he could repair them up. MAYBE he would like to buy those so HE can repair them and sell them? Good question. There is at least ONE of those pieces I cannot sell - nostalgia ya know.

@@Monza62000 these simple masks reduce the radius of droplets spreading from the wearer's nose and mouth. Imagine an invisible cloud around people's heads which is the moisture-laden breath they exhale. A mask over one's mouth reduced the amount of moisture laden breath they exhale, but alas, that also means you inhale less of their moisture. Your call.

That must have been disappointing, in terms of turnout. However, if the goal is to leave with NOTHING, that at least makes it a bit easier.

It's so real to see 99% white peeps only. No Hispanics, Blacks, Asians in the Ham world. When I received my tech+ 30 years ago in Fresno I was the only minority in the club. Renewed my calls in Las Vegas by the FCC at a NAB convention. Since then my calls went silent. Love your convention walk throughs!!

You know that really is kind of sad, however I seem to recall older hams bringing over parts and books with truly inspiring and exciting stories that they told to get the younger generation interested, one of the kits that really excited me was a crystal radio set and a Code Practice Oscillator, Elmer was even kind enough to show me how to modify my oscillator so that I could transmit a few feet to my crystal set, perhaps a little bit of excitement about radio around younger folks in your immediate vicinity could be achieved?
