  • @KRAFTWERK2K6

Yeah XHDATA has become one of my favorite producers of inexpensive and really sensitive multiband radios. Personally i don't really mind for the bigger lines but really prefer the smaller ones such as the D-219 and this model here. You can basically buy either of these and don't get disappointed because for DSP tuners the gaps of silence when scanning are pretty short and they feel a lot more analog than the majority of the DSP radios on the market. The D-328 and the D-219 are really the best lowcost radios outthere so far. it's incredible how affordable and sensitive these small radios have become. Also the MP3 player module should also be able to play PCM Wave files at 44,1Khz 16 bit. The XHDATA D-608WB i think even plays FLAC too. Perhaps the D-328 is able to play FLAC files too.

I have their D901 step up version that's $20USD and it is great. It uses an 18650 instead of a Nokia battery. I am all-in on 18650s so I love that. It also acts as a Bluetooth speaker. Occassionally useful. Well worth $20.

I got a XHDATA D-219 last year, which is even cheaper than this model, and it's just as good, radio wise. Really grabs hold of a signal, and doesn't drift.
It's the same radio, without the MP3 player or rechargeable battery.
Bought direct from the company website, it was about £9 including p&p, and arrived in a couple of days.
The only real downside is the very coarse tuning knob. It could do with about a 4x reduction.

I was an avid shortwave listener in my youth from 1976 onwards for 17 years. While I eventually had a Kenwood R-5000, I started out with a 1937 RCA Victor I saw in some's gsrbage bin. Next up was one like this here. Hi Fred, Two good reception tests to make: Radio Caroline 648AM or try the 49 meter band. There are 5 or 6 music stations including Radio Veronica, Radio Europa, Radio208, World music and others. Mostly theses stations come from Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands and Belgium (their governments encourage citizens to own and run radio stations) for instance, there are over 150 AM privately owned radio stations in Netherlands alone! Radio 208 is a local Copenhagen station which also has a shortwave outlet in the 49 meter Band. As you can see radio is much more progressive in Europe. The XHDate D328 seems like a radio worth lashing out £10 quid for. Thanks for the comprehensive review video, David

As far as SW reception goes, the D-219 could probably challenge this title of the most affordable working SW radio, but the D-328 definitely has a much better sound thanks to its quite decent speaker. Unlike the D-219 that sounds really tinny.

I mean, if you are not in the area where Caroline normally can be heard on an average clock radio, this might be a fantastic method to see what a receiver is capable of on medium wave. Specially during the day, not at night when every radio brings in signals. Greetings from Hekelingen, Holland. I’m west of Rotterdam and I get a fantastic signal on 648kHz by the way. Bye, Willem.

However you have to start somewhere with radio. The radio is not junk as it really does receive SW. Most people will be put off spending too much money on a first radio. With something like this they can tune around and hear radio from around the world, granted not all english speaking of course. They might give up after a couple of days but then they only have spent a few pounds and they still have an MP3 player and FM. But maybe one or two will catch the bug and then look deeper into the hobby inc SSB.

@@CB-RADIO-UK For a FEW dollars more (around 10), someone could get an sdr dongle, and a telescope antenna, and have a LOT more than what this can do, INCLUDING side band AND HAM. That's where people who want to get into it need to start, NOT by wasting money on something that WON'T do what they expect it to.

Great wee Radio/MP3 player for the money. Would make a great present for someone.
I have one little niggle, though. The outside of the box advertises the ability to use and memory stick. I didn;t see any USB socket for one. (The memory card and USB-C are shown as seperate).
