Alangkah bangganya saya pernah sekolah yang pelajarannya adalah teknik dasar pencetakan yang persis dengan cara Guttenberg membuat barang cetakan untuk pertama kali.
Movable type printing was first used in Dunhuang in Tang China in the second half of IX century and indeed initially applied several thousands wooden types of individual Chinese hieroglyphs. But because Dunhuang became a part of Uyghur Ganzhou Kingdom in Gansu (847-1035) and also bordered another Uyghur State- Idikut Turpan Kingdom (856-1369), Dunhuang printing houses soon started to print books in Uyghur script and on Uyghur language. They used movable wooden types of blocks engraved with only 26 Uyghur letters ( based on modified Sogdian script). Nevertheless, they used wooden types of engraved words, not of individual letters, so to print one book it was needed to use again several thousands movable types. Unfortunately, almost all Uyghur printed books of IX-XIII centuries, that survived till XX century, were destroyed and burnt out during Chinese " Cultural Revolution " 1966-1976 years.
For such a simple concept, the impacts have been so amazing. I always imagined that there was more to it...

"Stop the presses" refers to newspaper presses, not books.
Today, Digital Printing is done using inkjet and laser printers. There are no set-up costs apart from buying a printer and toner cartridges.
But books aren't printed that way. They don't run multiple pages from a computer printer.
There are so many versions of the bible for several reasons. One is that the medieval scribes would make changes as they wished, and also make errors.
