PM 1225 Polar Express goes to the North Pole in 4K

- In this video we follow Pere Marquette 1225 between Owosso and Ashley Michigan on the true Polar Express. The movie modeled their animated steam locomotive on the 1225. PM 1225 is also the true Christmas train since the numbers are 12th month 25th day!
We follow the steam train from Owosso on the GLC Railroad through the cold and slightly snowy Michigan Countryside and a drone view of the Carland Elevator. At 6:30 the steam locomotive pulls through the "North Pole" at Ashley to load the passengers back on their train.
GLC 397 pulls the return trip to Owosso in the first scene we actually filmed upon our arrival in Michigan ( 11:22 ). You can hear my son's excitement when he recognized this train from the movie and other UA-cam videos. We followed the train back, checked in our hotel and boarded the Saturday 5pm train. The 1225 leading footage is from the Sunday runs.
We end the video with 2 scenes of the 5pm Sunday run after the sun had set.
This is also my first video uploaded in 4K. Please give me feedback on if it is worth it because the files are massive!

Nice video, Scott. 4K is definitely worth it. I've been shooting in 4K for a couple years now and the difference between 4K and 1080p is significant especially when viewed on a desktop.

1225, he needs a name, is also the true polar express because he's the pattern for the train in the book and the movie, and all of the sounds in the movie were recorded off of him
I don't know why but 1225 has a lower chuff than the 765 and the 2716

I’ve heard they sound different because they burn a lower grade of coal
Scott Taipale hm, interesting, I remember a documentary with this engine where he took bad water and started to foam, so the whistle was all muted. But it’s weird because the J burns high grade bituminous and sometimes anthracite and it has a pretty high pitch chuff, which also isn’t actually that loud.

Excellent video shots and all, Scott, as always. My computer let me select 4K but I was getting interruptions. My laptop probably can't handle it but 1080 was pretty clear. Thanks man for sharing this awesome video. - Drew
Thanks Drew. I don’t have a 4K monitor so I can’t see the difference. My computer was supposed to be 4K capable but it needs a faster graphics card than what they put in.
You’re welcome, Scott. Maybe that is why it’s not working for me either. It will play then stop then play. I can tell, the quality of the picture was incredibly clear though.

I am not sure if they’re venting off extra pressure or clearing lines.
Blowdown - letting excess water out of the boiler. Helps to remove solids left behind when water boils.
