    It drives me nuts to see all these comments saying that this power figure is weak. Everyone is so desensitized to horsepower numbers and ratings in our modern age. Everyone thinks that 1000hp cars are commonplace and are the norm thanks to the over exposure we see of them online. The HP may not be a high number on these cars, but that's a healthy torque figure. HP is not always the be all end all figure in determining how fast a car is. Having driven my friends 2005 GT with an SCT tune and 4.10 gears as well as other mods, I can honestly say the car feels ridiculously fast, especially when you consider cheap you can pick one of these up. I never once felt like I was down on power.
    Love this build, guys. Thanks for bringing us another unique project.

      We're feeling a bit disappointed too. These engines aren't the most efficient but we're working on opening them up and seeing how much power it can make.

    For the people who say this car doesn't make much power, obviously watch too much 1320 racing videos with 2000hp Supras. Those same people couldn't even handle a 250hp mustang, and would most likely crash.

      @Crazy Chris Worse than that, because some can afford a car payment they buy factory made hot rods and think they become performance authorities. Funny how 1/10th of a second on a 0-60 run can mean so much to these kids.

    I have a 2008 Mustang GT and had it Dyno Tuned. Wheel Values were: 270HP and 281 torque. Wheel Values...where it matters most. Crank Values were: 322HP at the crank and 335 torque. Specs: High performance Ford Intake manifold, shorty headers, 62mm throttle body, K&N cold air intake, SLP HF Cats, and X-pipe. I don't see how this '05 Mustang GT with the specs it has, got that many gains. Of course you "can" get the car to reach those levels, but it will essentially hurt the motor. The gentlemen that performed my tune was no amateur and very thorough. The car is performing well, burning out over 50ft...I would say she's performing quite well with the numbers mine acquired.

    302hp at the wheels...thats roughly 345-355 at the crank assuming a 12-15% driveline loss. Actually a bit more because you have the 4:10 gears installed (they'll make the dyno read a bit lower because they will no longer be 1:1 with 4th gear) Not bad for a 12 year old car with 150k miles on it and a few bolt ons.

    • @joshpodolsky7740
      @joshpodolsky7740 3 роки тому

      Dave's actually used a remote tuner on his RX-8 with good success, and it has been around a long time and is getting much better overall as tuning software and remote accessibility technology improves. But there are things a tuner can hear and feel when tuning a car in person that they can't when tuning remotely, like knock or a misfire or the smell of burning coolant, so whenever possible we'll always opt for an in-person tuner. Definitely not aimed at B Is For Build...we enjoy his channel and respect his hard work, dedication, and honesty.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  7 років тому

      Dave had good results with a remote tune on his RX-8 too. If you have a well sorted and reliable engine package, there's really no reason why a skilled remote tuner can't calibrate your engine accurately and get solid results. It's just a tougher job when you're not doing it in person, since you don't get as much feedback (can't hear the engine, can't smell burning oil or burning coolant, etc).

    • @Highfiveletsride

    Hello sir. Is this car automatic or manual? I'm swapping my t3650 for a 5r55s, due to being a daily driver. City driving everyday can be very annoying when having a manual transmission. I'm really hoping to make 305 to 310 to the wheels. Parts list: long tube headers, o/r hpipe, under drive pulleys, imrc delete kit, 62mm throttle body, cai, accel coil packs and 255lph fuel pump.. hopefully that will get me where I want to be until I can afford a d.o.b intake kit.

    ABOUT TIME!
    Also those are pretty sad numbers for how much you've put in...
    You should see how much hp/$ you get from an ls based car!
    Also... a base stock ls motors easily revs to 6.5k
    Cams and spring you can get to well into 7k if not low 8 ( depending on gen motor internals )
    I used to have mod motors and a mod motor car
    But they SUCK

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  7 років тому

      We'll definitely bump the rev limit up some when we swap cams and valvetrain, but there's no question this old 3v engine isn't as efficient or as powerful as a LS. But it is a dirt cheap motor that makes great noises and is starting to make enough power to put a smile on our faces.

      Speed Academy at least you don't have a 2v shooting spark plugs to the moon
      But be careful about internals past the 400 horse point
      They like to start exiting the block at high speed

      Speed Academy a lot depends on how good your tune is but mod motors aren't great internals wise

      If we get a good snowfall before spring we might just taker for a rip at Toronto Motorsports Park since they often have winter lapping days and it is a ton of fun.

    Watch out everybody. This monster V8 is up to an earth shattering 300hp. They could show the top fuel guys a thing or two.
    Sorry guys I'm still bitter :/ Love your channel. The goals you laid out in the first mullet mustang vid compared to what you have actually done just really let me down. I know I'm impatient and you'l get there someday. Something about tuner style builders focusing on a muscle car making power just seems very different and interesting to me and I've never seen anybody else come from that angle before.
    Here is a quote from the first video in the series:
    "We need to put some drag radials on this thing."
    "Yeah we do."
    "We will go faster."
    "Do we have a goal in mind for drag racing?"
    "I would like to see a 12 second pass eventually in this thing with power adders."
    "Lets put it out there we're going to go 12s before we start working on lap times."
    "Alright... that sounds like a challenge to me."
    I do love how all you did was throw in a set of coilovers to have it out handle your BRZ on the track.
    Now imagine if it had a ton of power on tap too. It would be an all around great car for all sorts of track events. From auto cross to circuit racing to straight line. It could do it all. I mean come on a modern V8 motor making 300hp... there were honda civics in the 90's that made more power per cylinder than that. Now you're saying maybe a cam in the future. Not even a procharger? Come on get with the mullet style here. I want the long haired wigs back and the accents. If you guys aren't making 400 wheel by the next vid I'm unsubscribing and calling my representative to complain.

      Sorry it's taking a while, but we will still be putting drag slicks on it and we will go 12's!

    • @MrBenstero

      Modern engine lol, mod motors are not modern by any means other than cam in head. Don't blame Speed academy for what the manufacturer didn't do. They did start showing that build in the fall and you can't really do much in a non heated garage in winter in canada. plus it's not like they're gonna be be throwing a ton of cash at the thing. I'd rather see 350whp na motor than 600whp on a budget that won't handle for crap. Guys, keep doing what you're doing, us low budget guys love it and like to see the harship you have to go through most of the time instead of other shows that only show the good, easy stuff and big numbers.

    • @El_Chompo
      @El_Chompo 7 років тому

      MrBenstero - Yeah you're right but what I meant was that it's modern in the way that the mustang is a modern car and that engine is still being used on the road every day by many people. So in that way it's modern.
      I mean the 4L80E transmission is still being put into brand new vehicles and it is just a modified version of a transmission that has existed since the 60's. So what really counts as "new" then you know?

    . . . and considered cams when they came out but that would involve lowering the diff ratio and another custom tune for higher rpm. passed on all that.

    i am actually sad and dissappointed ... a 4.6 V8 makong such little power.. i thought mustangs made atleast 350 ho stock... which is still not a lot.. but those numbers are a joke..

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  7 років тому +3

      Don't confuse wheel horsepower on the dyno with advertised brake horsepower or crank horsepower. This engine has a factory bhp rating of 305, but on a dyno they typically make about 250-whp stock. It's definitely not a volumetric efficiency champ the way Honda engines like the B18C and K20 are, but it does make up for it with lots of torque. With some upgraded cams, which we'll be installing soon, we should really wake the top end up.
