Thank you Andy! Glad everyone was ok. I listened to the Coast Guard comment on this. Wasn't impressed. They were asked about the air quality and said it was fine. I thought no way! Your channel is getting everywhere. Many things online about the Golden Ray said go to your channel to know more about the Golden Ray. That's awesome! Hope you are getting some rest. This will be interesting what's next for the salvage.
    Take care!

Fire at sea is always the worst case scenario for any ship. Look what just happened pierside in San Diego to the Bonny-Dick...total loss from a fire that raged for days with every available fir apparatus on hand. We shall see how this goes and what's left once the fire burns out.
Tremendous coverage today Andy! You lead the charge for Nationwide coverage of this today! Well Done, and Thank You!

Andy, what an incredible experience you have provided for everyone who watches your videos. It reminds me of a huge woodstove chimney fire that that is self feeding and will be out when all the fuel is gone!!!! Thanks again Andy.

there are lots of sealed systems in a car that can build up pressure and rupture if heated in a fire, break, AC coolant loop, gas injector rails, steering hydraulics, etc. when cars ketch fire on the side of the road, it's not uncommon for a few overpressure explosions to happen. the pressure wave from those overpressure explosions can act like bellows in a furnace forcing air at a burning surface momentarily.
great vids, be safe Andy and crew. B)

So glad they removed so many vehicles in the weight shedding. Less to burn and less contamination.
I would think that straps that connect the Golden Ray to the VB10000 are compromised with the heat of the fire. I just hope that the ship is not so unstable that they can’t resume cutting at some point.
I fear that we will be well into hurricane season before we get rid of this thing.

holy moly - nothing like upping the ante
i'm currently watching the vids as suggested in an earlier posting, this will certainly wake the team members of the unified command - interesting stuff, but as i say again and again its all preventable when the correct precautions are in place
    just amazing
that VB10000 will now be installing a fire prevention system, something that big you could provide a mass of water very quickly

Well Captain I suspect it will be more than a few days to put the fire out completely and I also suspect this may cause a dilemma in the cutting plan....however I’m just happy nobody is hurt 😔 And darn I was hoping this mess would be gone before the 4th of July so you all would have had a beautiful celebration in the bay 😞 Well it should prove interesting as to what their next plan of attack will be...Thank you for the awesome coverage...Stay safe and dry and God Bless and Gods Speed 🙏🌹🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 See ya 🤗🤗

Fantastic report! What a traumatic day. This event is so multi-faceted. This has made this removal a whole different ballgame. They may have to re-think the lifting points. In fact, I would venture to say there is damage to all of the welds exposed to extreme heat. This event is like a heat treat process on the metal, as you stated. It changes the physical and chemical properties. Unlike heat treatment under controlled conditions, the effect on the steel on the ship will be random and non-uniform. This will pose a huge safety risk evaluation. If and when cutting resumes it may be a few weeks. It appears the fire is mostly out now. I see they are still spraying inside the hull of the Golden Ray.

USCG unified command briefing was underwhelming. Fire of reminds me of fire on USS Bonhomme Richard last year. All vehicles above water line will provide fuel to fire in form of plastics, tires, fuel, rubber, etc for some time. Good thing cargo didn’t include EV batteries. Thank you for video series!

Thanks Capt Andy for a great in depth report on the fire on the Golden Ray.
I’m happy to have heard that no one was hurt. Hopefully they’ll be able to do an investigation of the Golden Ray and determine whether or not they can continue cutting. If they determine otherwise what do you think the salvors will have to do?
Demolition charges to blow the hull of the Golden Ray to pieces and then remove them from the Sound with the grappling claw? As I’ve said before I know absolutely nothing about marine salvage and am curious as to what you think their next move might be.
Thanks again for your tireless reporting so that we can be informed. And stay safe out there.

I watched a report they were using torch's to cut part of the hull away and that what started it. The more I see of this ship I question how sea worthy is it can a 100 mph tip this ship over?

  • @johnnyholland8765
    @johnnyholland8765 3 роки тому +3

With the ship open on both ends and the wind like it was it probably created a venturi effect to fan the flames. Open to the air there is no way to smother it out. Fire can't burn without oxygen and with the wind blowing at that speed it had plenty to feed it.

This fire is so disheartening. The even worse news is that once they get the fire out, they are facing a whole lot of new problems to get this salvage operation completed. Unfortunately this fire will add at least another few hundred thousand dollars to the cost of this recovery operation as well as delaying the recovery even more. It's looking more and more like the choice of cutting the Golden Ray into sections, was the wrong choice for salvaging the vessel. I'd hate to be the guy responsible for having made that choice. It's kind of evident now that rolling her back upright and refloating her would have saved most of the pollution problems and probably a lot of time and money. As always Andy, stay safe and many thanks for keeping us all updated.

Sal Mercoliano verified what I had said to you before that this wreck should have been uprighted and floated away instead of this ecological disaster that is unfolding now. They needed to bring in the crew that took care of the Costa Concordia in Italy a few years back. The water line shows that this ship had enough water at high tide to float it away after reinforcing the ship and uprighting and removing as much cars first. Who is running this operation?

With all the flammables on board not accounted for, this was bound to happen. It was reported earlier, that their have been small fires during the cutting process. And they anticipated it and were able to contain them. They must of hit the mother lode of flammables.

its astounding - with all the equipment developed for the teams there seems to be so much faffing about - while i realise there is much safety to consider - there has to be an easier and faster way to respond to these kind of incidents which just seem to be more and more frequent - i could design a much more suitable rig to deal with this situation, get a ship righted, emptied of cargo and fuel and refloated in weeks rather than the year or more this took and hopefully prevent these potential environmental disasters - get me in touch with the right people haha ??

Ok Capt Andy, I got another comment/rant/keyboard judge: I'm angry. I watch this and feel that the last over year and a half has been an utter failure. Nothing about this recovery has gone anywhere like they said it would, remember 24 hr cuts they thought? Wrong, Everything with section 7, nightmare. I've told my kids once everything calmed down we'd go down on vacation and see where this all was. Now it'll be contaminated with carcinogens for decades to.comr it won't be safe. The residents here, the fisherman, the tourist, the sea life, the beaches have ALL paid for this epic failure. Leave what's left of it there now. Can't be too much left for it to destroy.
