If a guy claims to be rich but then asks you for 5k loan, that should be a red flag.
If a guy isn't rich and asks you for a $5k, it's also a red flag. Unless it's your kid or someone that you don't care about paying the debt, do NOT loan them money. Unless you want them out of your life, people who owe you money will disappear quickly so it's sometimes worth "loaning" a little bit of money to buy their exit from your life.

Week two he claims that his ex-girlfriend roommate wouldn’t pay her fair share of the plumbing leak repair and the inspector deemed the house to be unsafe to be in until the repairs were completed.
He boo-hoo’d about where he was gonna sleep that night and how to come up with some quick cash on a Sunday with the banks closed.

I was invited to lunch once for a business meeting and the guy who invited me for the business meeting ended up refusing to pay after the lunch. His reasoning was that I shouldn’t be expecting him to pay because I’d benefit from the business meeting more. I quickly called the restaurant manager and asked for a split check. The guy ended up leaving but since I already told the manager about the split, I only paid my part and he was considered dine and dasher. Of course, I always told everyone we mutually knew about what he did and no one would go anywhere with him no matter what. They all thought he was homeless who was being creative.
In my early 20s, a former boyfriend did a version of that fake proposal.

Not paying for his meal. Bottom line. He is stealing from the restaurant not me. Why the rest of the dining party accepts and pays? Nope. Had a guy dip after two drinks and an appetizer on a date we just weren't vibing. Resteraunt asked me to pay. I gave his name and address they can deal with him. I paid my bill and tipped 20% on the total we would have had combined which I felt was more than I needed to do.
