    Im pretty sure the KH BB set is basically just an 81 and 60 but with green font very little change...

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  2 роки тому +2

      That's pretty much it. I think it's a 81 for the bridge and a 60A for the neck (sounds a bit softer). Since the 60A is not so easy to find, it makes this set interesting anyway.

    The Het Set sounds fuller than the other two. The 81/60 and the KHBB somewhat sound close.

    It is hard to justify changing out the 81 for a signature set, but I had to go with the 89R for the neck and was totally satisfied as I played with some Gibson LP and Fender Strat guys who were Vintage 100% until they listened to that 89R. They could not believe an active pickup could compete with passive! But it did more! Blew them away! The LP is an 83 with Burst Buckers!

      I’m glad I’m not the only one. Something about signature (anything) to me is a turn off. I guess I just don’t need someone else’s name on my tone/music

      As a Metallica fan, this is what I think. The 81 is James' and Kirk's classic tone and whenever people think about their tones, they think about the 81 that generated that tone. It was the 81 that was used in those classic albums. So in all actuality and genuine retrospect, the 81 is the premiere Metallica signature pickup. The fact that your guitar already has an 81 in the bridge already means that you are using a 'signature' Metallica pickup. It's the same exact scenario with the Dimebucker. Dime was never known for it - he was known for the 500XL. These artist sig pickups are all just marketing baloney.

    I bought a Harley Benton SC-1000 (White), this last Christmas for only $153… it is basically a “replica” of the ESP Eclipse. Dropped in the EMG 57/66 combo & holy $h!t that thing can SING🤘🏼 it was a toss up between the SC-1000 and the Explorer shape - I’ll be getting the blue next 😂🔥

    • @ToroKchannel

      The EX-84 modern is good guitar for sure but the neck is way thicker than on the SC-1000. Personally, I'll keep waiting for the Amarok EX to come back with its 21-23mm neck and EMG Hot 70

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  Рік тому

      @@cero815 i’m pretty sure it will. Harley Benton had to change the shape of the body to avoid lawsuit. When it comes back it will have the same body shape as the EX-84 modern Thomann is currently offering. Now if you ask me when it returns, well I wish I knew. One thing is sure : when it willbe available I will order one for a review on the chan :)

      @@ToroKchannel ah, ok. Sounds sensible, although there no evidence yet. Thanks :)
      The other brand., the one with the lawsuits should concentrate in making perfect guitars looking at the prices instead of causing that much trouble.

    i read in Hetfields new book I believe it was that Kirk’s and James pickups the mids are balanced to compliment each other

    the 81 is such a compressed pick up, you can hear the difference between it and the bb one the palm mutes. the 81 is far more square waved wear the bb still has round chugs. definitely are very similar eq just different dynamics really it seems

    Hello there, it's going to be my first time having and playing a guitar with emgs. The set that's on my fernandes ravelle is 81 bridge and 60 neck. I love the way your tone sounds and if you don't mind me asking what is the height that you use on your bridge pickup from the bass side and treble side and the same for the neck pickup as well? Thank you.

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  2 роки тому +3

      Fernandes are very good guitars ! For the pickups height, my setup on EMGs is always the same : 2mm on the bridge pickup and 3 mm on the neck, same height on the low and high E side. You measure the height while pressing the string on the last fret.

      @@ToroKchannel I apologize for the inconvenience. But when you measure the height do you place the ruler on the middle of pickup or on the back edge of the pickup facing the back end of the guitar? Thanks.

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  2 роки тому

      @@bigchocolate8547 your pickup height should be the same from edge to toe, if not, you should check out the springs under the pickup ring. They might be too soft or too strong, and that might lead to a misalignment of the pickups. . And so, you should place the ruler on the middle of the pickups.

    The more videos I watch with Het, seems like the mids are more pronounced compared to older 81s. And the Hammet lead, took me awhile to find a good comparison but it definitely cuts through more compared to a 60 which I was considering before.

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  3 місяці тому

      That’s exactly it. On the Het Set the medium frequencies are lower than on the 81 and the Bone Breaker set is made to pierce thru it.

      I have both. Personally, the Live wires are amazing at the mids, and overall playing. The Hetset off the bat, sound great at palm mute tight riffing, especially when put to a scooped type tone. But on lead, the Het set doesn't seem to like my style of playing solos lol. Feels lacking in mid. Live wires feel mid heavy. Rhythm player Het set for sure. Lead, go another route. I love my Live wires for that. All subjective of course

      Ever tried a 60 in the bridge? I swapped out all my 81s for it, actually put the 81 in the neck position. Killer combo, way more low mids in the bridge

  • @evanmachas8078

    I believe that 81/60 set with BB set have some similarities but het set is closer to 57/66 set. BB set is like a supercharged 81/60 and het set like a hotter and cleaner version of 57/66 with more mids precision

    • @sinisterminister9920
      @sinisterminister9920 2 роки тому +1

      Not big on signature anything but the 57/66 combo is immaculate

    • @pgman5416
      @pgman5416 Рік тому +1

      yep. also its helpful to think of the het set as a "passive-voiced 81/60 with tweaks". The BB set is more like a sharpened 81/60. 57 is a PAF 81, so yeah I can see that being similar to the Het B. 66 is obviously a fine tuned 60. All of these are so good and close you will probably be OK with any of them.

      @@pgman5416 What tf is a PAF 81 ??? I guess it's like liquid fire ...do you even know what a PAF is, and what the 81 is ? these are just two polar opposite concepts of pickups. And just like that , dude above your comment even says " BB set is like a supercharged 81/60 " when in fact it's just an 81 with a 60A, which is an Alnico 5 version of the 60, thus giving it less power and a more mellow sound. Geez, comments on UA-cam.....I would hate being a beginner today, because UA-cam would be the absolute LAST place on earth to find accurate infos....

    • @pgman5416
      @pgman5416 7 місяців тому

      @@SociopatheAssumeyou need to get educated, that’s all. I do apologize for being misleading to novices but that’s not my intent: it’s hard to discuss technical details in a universal language. When discussing active pickups, tonal quality mostly comes from the preamp. A “PAF 81” is a reference to an 81 voicing, but with more PAF-tonal properties in comparison to the original 81. Magnets don’t really affect active pickup tone as much due to the compression and low power, pre-boost and even though EMG markets alnico V and ceramic pups, most of the difference is in the preamp voicing. So when they market the EMG 57 as being PAF, it’s a reference to the voicing. If you didn’t know, active pickups are not truly PAF, which doesn’t really mean anything in itself, but that they have a voicing compatible to a SL.
      BB and Het set provide significantly altered 81 and 60 voicing. I’ve played them a lot.
