😁 I love that statement and will have to put that one in my library!
As a black man, I will NEVER fly United Airlines again! My uncle used to fly for United Airlines after serving in the USAF. BTW, he became a pilot in the USAF BEFORE there was affirmative action, now known as DEI! I remember when I got my pilot's license, and got my first job, I actually had to be better to be considered equal!
DEI really demeans black people and other minority groups as it says that we can't meet the standard and spits in the face of the Tuskegee airmen, Jesse Brown, Carl Brashir, and other black people who had to become almost superhuman to open doors of opportunity for black people today! I am saving to buy my own airplane and just fly myself where I need to go in the USA! When I need to travel overseas, I ALWAYS fly foreign airlines where I know they don't have this DEI nonsense!
STOP FLY UNITED AIRLINES UNTIL THEY STOP DEI Hiring practices for any job where people's safety is involved!
Amen to that
My experience is that 90% are better than the best, as you stated. They want zero doubt, to beat the stereotype. That other 10% though… there is no way to deal with them without taking a ton of blowback.
Old Lou Freeman was my Chief Pilot when my dad passed away. Our 1st black Captain. He went to my dad’s funeral. Dad was from the old glory days of Pan Am.
@troibandy2139. Well said, my dude.
Seems to be issues with Air Traffic Ctl as well
It’s known as the “soft bigotry of low expectations.” I think it’s just straight up bigotry.
He is not a pilot, he was an air frame mechanic. If he was medically retired, he would not qualify for the first or second class medical needed to fly passengers in this scenario.
Every job should be based on merit and competency, not the color of our skin
Larry, you're right
That's how you have a discussion! No name calling, no crying. Just an exchange of ideas, with facts to justify statements made.
It's great to see calm and adult conversations
He doesn't have the demeanor of a pilot. His question to Charlie was purely hypothetical.
I agree with you. People should be chosen on competence and suitability for a job, not because an agenda box can be ticked.
Male, female, white, black, if you're doing a job you should be the most competent of all the applicants to that job.
DEI is all the rage right up until you threaten professional sports. Then it’s like “Whoa now, hold on a minute…you HAVE to be qualified to play football or basketball!” SMH
Right?? 🤣
All my life I was a victim of Affirmative Action. After graduating college I moved to CA because where I was living was kind of depressed re: the job situation. The first major interview I had was with Pacific Bell. The interviewer, holding my application in his hand said to me, "You have all of the qualification and experience I need but I CAN'T hire you. I HAVE TO HIRE minorities." Then, I got a part time teaching position. I was teaching for 5 years and a full time position was opened up. According to the contract ALL qualified personnel were to notified of the position. I wasn't notified and a minority got the position. I interviewed many times for teaching positions. What I found out was that the majority of the teaching positions were given to local minorities. So, I had to make it on my own. I know I"m not the only one who has gone through this. Every time the government makes a decision they thing is equitable for one they restrict someone else.
I hear ya! Way back when, I worked at the Fire Department, whites had to score I believe a90, blacks 50, Hispanics 60’s something like that. Then a Seda program was created and government jobs were given out to blacks and Hispanics without having to take a test.
@Eyes-of-Horus
So how do you feel about the homestead act?
"All my life I was a victim of Affirmative Action"
I have relatives that were denied vocational and educational opportunities because they were minorities. They were victims too. Affirmative Action programs offered opportunities for millions of people to have better lives for themselves and their families. If the people running the government and the industries at the time had given everyone an opportunity based on merit there would have been no need for Affirmative Action. It's easier to hit a home run when you start on third base.
New Haven CT was involved in a suit were the fire department want to remove a test for candidates applying for promotion. All applicants had the same opportunity to study for the test. Some of that knowledge may be needed to save lives and property. Why would ANYONE be excused from knowing that knowledge in that position? We all want equal opportunity but without equal requirements if is a farce. The case went to the SCOTUS and of course the liberal judges voted for the removal. I believe they think minorities are just not able to compete with whites. As a result, it could lead to the loss of lives due to inferior training and testing.
Air Traffic Control is severely impacted by DEI.
I got an email a while ago stating i was part of BRIGIDA v. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION et al
Don't tell me that. Now I don't want to fly.
Obama started that by pulling blacks off the streets and put them ahead of kids who went to college for ATC
I'm fairly confident that without a quota in place, Charlie would never question the qualifications of any pilot of any race.
exactly
You haven't seen the Content Creator Jenny Blalock video? . She received pilots license yet totally incompetent. Flew around in circles on calm, clear day. Zero navigation skills. Finally turned on Autopilot "Lets see where this takes us". Took videos of herself flying. Both her and her dad died
@@micheleh5269 I watch those types of videos. I don't think you're comparing apples to apples. This video is talking about hiring and quotas. I don't believe there are those types of quotas when giving pilot licenses. From what I've witnessed, I DO think the aviation authorities are WAY too liberal in giving pilot licenses. I would like to see much more stringent standards for amateur pilots.
That guy argued his case better than most I've seen challenging Charlie - a proper civil debate
One of United DEI female pilots already crashed. She taxied at unsafe speed and folded it. Doing $millions in damage to the plane and passengers.
Yeah,it happened to my parents. The pilot went off the runway and the jet got stuck in mud. My parents and many other passengers were delayed by many hours. Buses had to come pick them up and then they had to fly on another jet. The pilot was a woman and was a DEI hire. FACT!!
If they had hired the best “application” this would have never happened!! It was a terrible inconvenience(many hours delayed) for my parents and all the other passengers.
@@matthewbrice6202- Did they at least get compensated for their time and loss? A full refund on their ticket?
ravenzyblack,No they didn’t. My parents and passengers were delayed for many hours and the airline did nothing to try to compensate. But this is America! The best applicant didn’t get hired.
@@matthewbrice6202 - That is really strange, because when my brother was stuck on a plane for hours after flying back from Italy they reimbursed him for his ticket and he got a voucher for a free flight for the future. When they return to the states they had a detour to a non-international airport so they wouldn’t let anybody off the plane. They spent over four hours or more on the plane before they finally flew them to Portland International. He then had to catch another plane home, took him hours and two planes to get back home. Depending on the airline, I know there are laws about being reimbursed when it’s the airlines fault. I don’t know how that works if it’s the fault of the pilot.
NO DEI IN AMYTHING!
I’m out dating myself, over 43 years ago, my late husband loved to watch Sanford and son. One of the episodes, Sandford, being a black man went to the doctor and when a black doctor came in the room, he started calling out for a white doctor. This was over 43 years ago. I believe, the actor’s name was Redd Fox.
COMPETENCE IS KEY.... Any company that embraces DEI HAS TO FOCUS ON COMPETENCE.
After what has happened with the Airlines and Boeing I don’t want to fly now.
In 1989 United was forced to hire massive amounts of basically anyone except a white male. A Hispanic friend of mine went to interview and was handed a job with no interview and no flight simulator test required, as was standard. So there's that little fact. Many of the quota hires failed so many checkrides that they were prohibited from upgrading to Captain but were allowed to keep their jobs due to Union protection. It's just a fact whether you like it or not. Now they say they're going to have 50% hires black or female and the hair on the back of my neck is standing up thinking about it. Because the percentage of qualified applicants that happen to be female or black are just not at 50%. Probably closer to 15 or 20%.They WILL lower the standards as needed to fill that quota. It already happened once.
In medicine, we view DEI as DIE. It has been around forever without the initials. And yes, I look up the qualifications of any doctor before I see them--where did they go to med school, residency, and fellowship (if they did one). There are specific things I'm looking for or looking to avoid. I can choose my doctor, but I can't choose who is flying the plane beyond selecting which airlines I will or will not fly.
Many years ago, during the first push for more blacks in medical school, a black neurosurgery resident proved himself so incompetent in the OR that the short-tempered attending surgeon knocked him out cold. This happened at the VA hospital in Columbia, MO.

I had a gig decades ago where the very large company had to obviously meet 'quotas' for certain colors and I was shocked how incompetent most, not all, were, and worse, those that were incompetent didn't care, and worse, they were actually often complaining about 'the man'! They were horrible and we 'workers' just had to ignore it all and let them be while doing the bare minimum and having attitudes. It was unbelievable. I have talked to a lot of people over the years who have to deal with stuff, many in management, and they have to treat 'them' very differently and hold them to lower standards

Charlie is spot on.
DEI and Affirmative Action hiring practices have to lower the standards of qualification, because to meet thresholds. You have to make the hiring pool much bigger so that the selection process can find the TARGET GROUP that DEI needs supplying prospective numbers.
But because you the Progressive HR Hiring Administrator ran this program, of course the net effect will be to understand, you made it about RACE, not about MERIT.
So you cut off your nose to spite your face.
To fill these DEI and affirmative action quotas in America, the standards are being lowered. For police, firefighters, military. Etc etc wtc
Standards have always been lowered for white men. Stop this, we know the truth
Ha Ha! I came out of the Air Force with over 4,500 flight hours and I applied to two different airlines one airline didn't call me for an interview and the other airline interviewed and hired me. Guess which airline didn't hire me.......that's right it was United! Guess what I didn't elect to offer United Airlines that's right I am 7% African. Unlike Elizabeth Warren I earned my job the old fashioned way!!!!!!
DEI is trying to compensate for not doing the hard work of making sure that everyone gets a good education from the moment they enter school. Instead of sorting the problem at the root they are trying to fix it at the finish line because it's quicker than doing the hard work but will most likely bring new problems.
How many thousands of times can Charlie Kirk say "It's NOT about skin color" before some people hear that as the point?
I've got this "Scientific American" article on my computer where it says how psychologists have determined what it takes to produce an expert in any field.
The answer is: 10 ( ten ) years of hard work.
on mulatto boy, he passes for white. If he was my pilot, i would initially say good. But if he comes out saying he is half black and he got hired because of DEI, i would then say im out of this plane. I would demand that airlines post before the ticket purchase if the pilot is DEI. That way i will not go through with the purchase for that DEI flight.
Yeah, especially when you realize that 99% of the plane crashes are caused by white pilots with "experience"
I don't want anyone doing a job where they hold my life in my hands to be picked upon any other quality than their ability to do the job with excellence. What was wrong with meritocracy? We hadn't long got rid of our class system interfering with meritocracy in the UK and we're now we're having this new class system foisted upon us. We got it right with meritocracy. Yeah, let's have plenty of diversity in these workplaces but for the sake of the Gods don't lower the required standards for them.
SCOTUS recently ruled against racial preferences for college admissions in SFFA v Harvard, so there is hope that such practices will come under much more scrutiny since they are all basically written to exclude straight White or Asian males no matter how qualified they are. This overturns nearly 50 years of precedent of the interpretation of the civil rights act and is a step toward the downfall of affirmative action on which DEI is based both for college admissions and employment opportunities. The only people who deserve a helping hand are the people who truly are disadvantaged such as the disabled or preferences that are earned such as veteran status or community service rather than one granted by birthright or a proclaimed sexual preference and/or identity.
No one has to lower the standards for "them" since it's not "them" who cause 99% of the plane crashes..
When the tires fall of you might need a good pilot
Hey, I retired very young after a great 20 year career as an airline pilot. “DEI” has been a pretty big part of the game since I started back in late 2001. We had a female Captain almost cartwheel a 737 down the runway, who NEVER should have been in a cockpit.
She survived a long time before it caught up with her. Because she was female, instead of getting retrained, ordered to perform further training like many are required to do from time to time, and still end up thriving in the aviation space, she made it all about gender, and made all kinds of acquisitions.
The irony is that many of our best are from the so called protected classes of people. They decided to push themselves harder to insure they aren’t considered a quota hire.
we have a diversive VP, you see how well thats going!
Because of racial quotas, when I fly, I will now be noticing the color of the pilot, something that I would not ordinarily do. And if the pilot is a person of color, I will then be wondering about his or her competence.
so true , years ago in San Jose CA police dept. to achieve their affirmative action requirement they had to go with officer candidates which scored in the lower half % in test scores
Wow! Thats amazing. Minority nor female near cockpit. Nah I'm not flying.
We don't need dei, it should depend on your merits. There are plenty of good black piolets. Remember the red tails of WW2 ?
When a company starts drawing employees out of a limited pool, that pool gets drained very quickly because every other company is doing likewise and you end up with dregs.
Guess I’ve flown on United for the last time.
I don’t think the guy is an airline pilot. He said he was prior Air Force and he worked in “airframes” (mechanic) and was medically retired. He then poses a hypothetical: IF he becomes a pilot and Charlie sees him in the cockpit…..
Pilots use to have to have 2,000 hours of flying time. Now it is 500. Do you really want to keep flying
What does that have to do with race? That's not the airlines, that's the FAA
We got the usual suspects flying planes now? What next, we hire women and only fly 3 weeks a month?
To borrow someone else line: "There are no black or african Americans; there are just Americans".

Everything Charlie said is 100% accurate. Fact. Stick it with a fork, it's done. The guy was very respectful, and may have agreed, in the end.

To achieve this, many pilots teach student pilots to accumulate the required flight hours. Given this, how is it possible that white student pilots taught by black pilots are considered more qualified for jobs than the black pilots who trained them?
6 years and he was medically retired??? Why???
Why doesn't DEI apply to age? 20 million flight hours of experience each year are being kicked out of the major airlines because of an abstract age limit. Remember that when you see the gray haired pilots being replaced by the man bun.

2:34 thats called splitting hairs. What the bloke was saying is his first impression, if all white people are hired on merit and 75% of black people are hired to fill a quota then any rational person would assume that a white pilot’s ability reaches a minimum standard of competency for the industry, but they’d question whether the black pilot was only hired to fill the quota and question how good he was and whether they should reconsider getting on the plane.
But first impressions are just that, they can be wrong. This bloke is white, the fact he identifies as black is irrelevant, there is no way a casual observer can know this. So you trust that he was properly qualified, then find out too late you were wrong. How many people have bought a car from a “reputable dealer” only to find out it they’d been conned?
I think the standard of living has gone down since the equity programs to put women into positions of power were enacted. A lot of under qualified women have been hired over the years and they have hire more women with substandard quals and they have made a lot of stupid decisions.

He said that if he ever had to reapply for his job he wouldn’t get it, because the new department head was a woman with degrees in child care sociology, and so she only hires people who fit into what she understands, mostly more women. This was in 1998.
I took my 18 year old son to tech or (TAFE as its now called) he wanted to do a welding course. The sign out the front said engineering department - welding, structural engineering, fabrication, CAD, etc. this is place.
