  • Here is an essential guide to making the most of the winter fishing that we possess here in the United Kingdom on our stillwaters.
Lures are an essential part of our armory, but which ones?
In this video, I will talk you through fish location, fly patterns, line choice, and retrieves so that you can capitalize on the cold water sport we have on our doorsteps!

Really enjoyed that mate. Great for those starting out. Being able to see the close up of the retrieve. You must have some good young blood running through your body. My hands would have been dropping off. Was out last week, after 20mins I could not bend my fingers. Really well edited video, Great stuff Steve. Take care. Shaun.

Great video, Steve! I’m fairly new to the small stillwater thing and this sort of thing is fantastic. Slightly different question, which sunglasses are you using? I recently crushed my Costas and am needing a new pair 😬

Curious about your choice of a 7-wt rod. I reserve mine for steelhead and salmon, and would likely go down to a 5-wt for rainbows. What advantages do you see for going with the heavier 7-wt. (PS - Delighted to see you using our locally-built Sage, my go-to brand.)

i'm a 7wt user also, i opted for the heavier rod for casting in the wind and find it fights the larger stillwater fish more effectively.
i use my same stillwater rod for steelhead nymphing out west so it acts as a nice crossover. i've even targeted smaller stripers in the california delta with it too.

Great vid, thanks. Inoticed you had your rod tip in the water when retrieving. Is there a reason for that?
