Was at the Düsseldorf Boat Show at the weekend. Looked at the new Hallberg Rassy 57, Oyster 565, CNB 66 wasn't on show but her bigger sister so had a good impression of quality and convenience, and lastly the Amel 60. The HR starts at 1.8 million incl. tax, Oyster wouldn't quote but I guess around the same as CNB which starts around 1.5 million not including tax and has an extras list as long as my arm, and finally the Amel 60 which starts at just under 2 million with a extras list of goodies to push the price up accordingly. All the yachts are beautifully made with varying levels of comfort and sailability. The HR is a real sailers boat. Solid with excellent woodwork and with the twin helming stations, a big leap forward. I looked in every nook and cranny and didn't see anything which wasn't finished to perfection. There is a hard biminy option which makes it look even more solid and with the automated winches, in-mast furling etc, probably really easy to sail either alone or with two. The CNB is just perfection. Spoke to a young guy called Lukas Heyde. Very nice and helpful and obviously in love with the product. Everything about her deck and interior layout (which is the same on the 66, but smaller) is finished to very high standards. Has a Man Overboard emergency option, meaning, if the skipper etc falls off the boat, the dongle around his/her neck tells the boat they are no longer on board. The boat automatically turns into wind and stops. It also has a "Keep on Station" and remote option which is GPS controlled making it very easy, apparently, to dock the boat short handed or even alone. The Oyster is also beautiful, well equipped and with it's big side windows, a real delight to look at from inside and outside. I couldn't really find anything about the boat to complain about, apart from the three sales guys sitting in the salon who were not interested in speaking to potential clients, but more in their iPads. Then came the Amel 60. This boat seems to be a floating collection of superlatives. Everything mentioned in this video is true. You can do everything from that cockpit without having to go out on deck once. At least not after the initial set up. There isn't any part or corner of the boat which isn't draw dropping. From the set up on deck, the sail configuration possibilities, the relax area space and and and. My only gripe is the laminated deck. Maintenance free but teak just looks and feels better. The interior layout, galley, cabins, salon area and nav-station are a pleasure to behold. If I ever decide, the Amel is definately on my short list.
We have a Teak deck and i can tell you that after 10-20 years teak will be a major headache. It obviously depends on how it's maintained, but mine was looked after by contractors and they have wrecked it. I am looked at almost a third of the value of the boat to replace it. Never again.
Yes, the idea of the laminate deck isn't initially appealing but this was a part of Henri Amel's original 'keep it simple' idea. In 20 yrs the deck will still be immaculate whereas teak will need a complete re-furb.

hmmm would be great to always travel with more boats ... if u get into trouble u have help right away ... well that's what learned in mountaineering and 4x4 offroading anyways...
For non-sailors - every boat can have two of everything, not just Amels. Learning to maintain and repair and general experience will make up for the buffer this boat seems to provide as described early on. Lovely boat, nice family. thanks for sharing. Would like to see more of him and his experiences.
Loved the Amel 60, great boat. Great guy & family :). No words for those "real sailors" that bash someone for a boat that he loves. Please give him/"new sailors" with kids on board the tip to drag a buoy with a 60ft rope behind em while on big passages, when you meet them. I like the way this guy promotes redundancy. That's a prepper principle. Two is one - one is none. That's always a good approach, especially for a sailboat! Also this guy is super laid back. I like that.
What a beautiful yacht. I would love to sail with that Captain. I think I would learn more in two weeks with him than I would learn in a year with someone else. A very pleasant and beautiful family too. I wish them all the best on their world trip. Stay safe and fair winds.
Awesome review. Thank for letting this happen. No one ever does the newer Amel reviews. So nice to see one being used as it should. You have a great family. Cheers.
I've sailed through enough ocean storms too appreciate the advantages this boat offers. At 64 I still have the desire too do some serious cruising but I don't want exaust myself struggling with a vessel that requires more movement and physical energy at sea too manage. This boat has simplified everything and automated everything too such a degree it's sit back and enjoy the ride, that's what I'm looking for. I want too survive the ride and come back fresh and ready for the next adventure. Also so many of the vessels in this level come with teak decks. I don't want to clean and oil teak decks. I like AMELS gel coat decks. One less thing to do. More time for day trips, shopping, visiting sites etc. Less maintenance more relaxing and fun. Those teak decks add an extra $200,000 to the cost of the boat. There is your cruising kitty right there. More pocket cash less work. Let's go sailing .

What a great video - good to see an Amel 50 in real life conditions (with kids). Much more cosy than I ever anticipated. Such a great boat. Really wondering now what the Amel 60 adds to all this actually. Have fun on your trip!
Sywert van Lienden I ended up ordering the 50 after looking hard at both the 50 and the 60 (I was able to crawl all over hull number one when she was in the tank at their factory). Well the 60 definitely feels more spacious, the total cost of ownership was so much greater than the actual perceived benefit that I decided to go with the 50
Have just recently come across your channel and I have to say what a bloody beautiful boat Aquarius is and what awesome videos and footage you have shared. And I love your laid back style and presentation of it all - thankyou guys you are amazing and have provided so much more fuel and thoughts for my own dreams. Kudos to the skipper and family for letting us have a peek and for sharing their view. It just goes to show once again the Amel is the boat for the long range sailing in a safe and protected environment. Wishing all of you fair winds and fun adventures as you sail around the world. @@SailingAquarius I really think that me and my wife have the same age than you and your wife...but the difference is...we don't have any experience of sailing...only the desire to make it. Following your youtube channel is an inspiration for us. A big Hug from Portugal - Europe
@@nevespmm1 A great way to start sailing is to join a local sailing club and take lessons there. Any experience is useful, but experience with smaller boats can be particularly beneficial for understanding the behavior of larger boats.
The Amel is such a great boat, and I like his concept of first circumnavigating with "training wheels," then he'll do it his own way. Smart, as is the concept of redundancy, if you can afford it, and the time to maintain all those systems. It's difficult enough to maintain single systems, but with redundancy, you are never stuck. I currently have a 50' motor yacht, but I also sail and am considering an older Amel for circumnavigating upon retirement in a few years. Thanks for this excellent video! This is a special channel with lots of great sailing information, and little if any fluff.
What a lovely family 😍 And the kids are so smart, speaking fluent english at this age. That's some good parenting and homeschool teaching. Wish them all the best and always a hand's breadth of water under the keel!
Yep, we also have never needed any of the extra fuel we hauled around in cans. But, having extra fuel makes you a bit more comfortable when starting the engine on long passages. It's kind of like Linus and his security blanket. He doesn't really need it, but it does make him feel better! I was the same way with fuel, just look at the Pacific crossing video of Aquarius. We had fuel on our deck. Would I do it again? Probably not....
@@SailingAquarius Yes, I can understand, but we must recognize that a significant part of the sailing industry makes a living by scaring people into spending money for emergencies that are either highly unlikely or have very little real danger in them. And in the end, that is bad for sailors and for the growth of the entire industry. And the owner of this AMEL 50 is a clear victim of this. Not just in fuel I might add.
@@circumnavigation9386 He didn't seem to be a victim. He was honest in saying it's what he felt he needed, and from now on probably doesn't really need it. He even said that Amel tried to talk him out of all the cameras that he admitted he doesn't really use. But he is new to sailing oceans and sailing in general, and his boat can handle the weight, and he obviously has the funds, and he was with a large group. Better for him to experiment in this situation and learn what he doesn't need from now on. No harm done, and he said he learned a lot about what he does and does not need. I give him credit for thinking things through on the safe side. Safe is good.
Great boat but even greater familty. Kids are really gorgeous. Like very much that they speak english and spanish as well. ¡¡ Felicitaciones y buen viento los lleve siempre !!!

If I was to cross a ocean I'm jumping on this guys boat. He's extra extra safe doubles up on everything. Stunning boat and a smashing family he has there. Hope when he sets off around the world on his own he documents it and posts on here. I for sure would subscribe. I would say stay safe but he had that covered. Enjoy the world my friend and thanks for showing us around your boat/home cheers
Well the 60 definitely feels more spacious, the total cost of ownership was so much greater than the actual perceived benefit that I decided to go with the 50
What a blessing those children are! You can tell they are well-liked! ❤ Happy children make my spirit smile
Very nice boat. Thanks for the break. Now back to my search for a used 30 footer... :)
:)
Amazing family & truly a dream boat! 👍🏻❤️
Awesome. Thank you for sharing your experiences whit the Planet.. Yep 'AMEL' is the best, we love it. xoxo
Thanks, and fair winds
Have just recently come across your channel and I have to say what a bloody beautiful boat Aquarius is and what awesome videos and footage you have shared. And I love your laid back style and presentation of it all - thankyou guys you are amazing and have provided so much more fuel and thoughts for my own dreams. From a fan - Alan Roberts, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia
Thanks Alan, and welcome to our Channel. If you have any suggestions, please let us know!!
The kids always give the most awesome boat tours. Smiling and laughing the whole time
That is SOOO true!
What a great review on this new Amel model, not just one looking at it all new but looking at it in real life being used for what is was built. Kudos to the skipper and family for letting us have a peek and for sharing their view. It just goes to show once again the Amel is the boat for the long range sailing in a safe and protected environment. Wishing all of you fair winds and fun adventures as you sail around the world. Would love to hear from you again once you have finished you’re first tour of the world.
Thanks..... That's what I also like to see... How the boat's are being used by the owners... What they like, what they don't like....... Most of the tours of boats on UA-cam don't show this... Many thanks goes out to Benz and his family showing us a glimpse of their life aboard the Amel 50.
I'd also love to have everything in double. First item on the list: my bank account :) Beautiful family.
That’s got to be a million dollar boat... it’s gorgeous, and such a lovely family
Probably a wee bit more that a million. But, worth every penny! Fair Winds
About 1.3usd (at least mine fully spec’d is)
To the captain: Outstandingly fully prepped vessel! Not seen before; what a splendid effort, awesome! (also thank you for filming and put it out here)
Thanks. I like the way you Tell it!
I like this guy and especially his boat. It's a funny guy he got the luck to have the money to buy this great Amel. I wish him and his family all luck and good sailing.
Thanks for the comment!
Just took delivery of this same boat, but 2020 model. Waited 18 months for Amel to finish and deliver it. Were about to start sea trials this week!!
Congratulations !
What a beautiful boat Niobe and a lovely family. I am impressed with your approach to "training wheels", redundancy, and constant thought of safety and comfort for your family. Thanks for the tour. I now want an Amel 50 :p
You are right about so many things in this short comment! Thanks for watching!
What a fantastic insights into real life on a sailing yacht. I absolutely love this video!
congrats for the lovely Family.
I still love the GARCIA Exploration 52 or 60 to do some high latitude sailing . Amel is a really nice boat . Both are a dreams . Thanks for showing
Thank for watching!
Wonderful tour…I love how the kids led the tour below!
Thank you Sir!!!... this is most enjoyable to watch!!!!!... hope you and the rest of the family is ok!!!....❤
My dream boat is AMEL50
AWESOME
We are dreaming too!
Thank you for such an interesting video. Great information and loved the children
This is a world apart from the cockpit experience of our boat, ha ha. Very nice boat there matey 👌🏻⛵️
Absolutely awesome vid
Glad you enjoyed it
I feel healthier just watch him them all tanded taking about fresh water. Thank you for your video, this familly is very lucky.
Thanks!
I appreciate you taste in UA-cam Channels!!
@@SailingAquarius Only the best! :)
What a lovely family 😍 And the kids are so smart, speaking fluent english at this age. That's some good parenting and homeschool teaching. Wish them all the best and always a hand's breadth of water under the keel!
I like the way this man thinks. Lovely boat. Lovely family.
Us too!
Lovely video of a lovely boat and its lovely family. Had a laugh about the fuel situation.
@@SailingAquarius " We had fuel on our deck."
But would you ever consider storing 400l of the stuff under the floor panels of the salon?
@@SailingAquarius Yes, I can understand, but we must recognize that a significant part of the sailing industry makes a living by scaring people into spending money for emergencies that are either highly unlikely or have very little real danger in them. And in the end, that is bad for sailors and for the growth of the entire industry. And the owner of this AMEL 50 is a clear victim of this. Not just in fuel I might add.
Better to be safe than sorry 😐
Hi Ken,
it was so nice to meet you and your family last evening. I wish you all the best and send you my cordialy greetings!
Same to you!
I love the A-50. This is one of the most interesting tours I have seen. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed the tour, and we appreciate the nice comment.
