A few points. Mizu didn't give up just because of Tigen, it was a mix of reasons. When Mizu entered Fowler's room and saw the maps on the table, everything started to click for her. She pieced together Fowler's plan (combine it with the Tea Party conversation), and realized that countless others were in danger too, including Akemi. Throughout the episode, all those pivotal moments in her life and the things people had said to her echoed in her mind. Specially Ringo's last words stuck with her "You are no samurai. A samurai is honorable" which he said when she gave up on Akemi. Mizu was seriously injured, Tigen was barely hanging on, and Fowler had the upper hand. It was painfully clear she was outmatched and couldn't win this fight on her own. That's when she finally admitted to herself that she needed "help". That's why she gave up, because she had more than enough reasons to, and in the end, she chose honor over pride. She chose being a samurai, hence the dialogue "Okay, I'll teach you". Now, about the complaints surrounding this episode, a lot of it comes down to the shift in tone. The first five episodes did a great job balancing character drama with a grounded approach. But Episode 6 was like a video game, and I agree. As you also pointed out "how is she even alive?". Realistically, she should've bled out way before she reached the giant. Then again, the show isn't exactly grounded in realism. I mean, there's no sword in the world that can cut through a thick tree trunk in one swing. The problem is that this episode felt less grounded compared to the earlier ones, and that contrast stood out to a lot of fans. Personally, I didn't dislike the episode, but it didn't pull me in emotionally the way previous ones did. That said, it did dive into Mizu’s psyche, exploring her feelings about honor and human connection, which I did like. The cinematography was stunning. You can tell the animators had the time of their lives with this one. Still, that shift hurt the emotional weight of the episode, even with the focus on Mizu’s inner struggles. If you've seen Episode 7, there's some criticism about that one too, though most people seem to love Sword Father's lines! There are also a few other things I'm curious to hear your thoughts on for the next episode. 😉Looking forward to it! Hopefully, it'll be soon! Don't keep us waiting too long!
That's fair. I think any episode would have felt weak after the last one, though, which was so good. It's possible this was a deliberate choice, a kind of palate cleanser, while avoiding losing the impact of better scenes by being overshadowed. And, of course, there's all kinds of thematic arguments you could make. Impurities, peculiarities, soft and hard steel, etc etc. Doesn't mean anyone has to like it, of course. But with the incredible way they've woven story threads together elsewhere, I'd be surprised if the creative team hadn't spotted the stark contrast.
Miss Claudie pep talking Mizu through is just the most adorable thing ever. "Centre yourself Mizu. Come on, you got this. Come on babe, you got this" 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Imagine you're just some bloke... working in this rich guy's castle when this BES runs into your kitchen, puts their bleeding foot into the bucket with water, runs off upstairs. Then, no two minutes later, falls through the ceiling (with most of the next room above), gets up, screams into the same bucket of water, runs off again. Must be a Monday 🤷♂
- "A Samurai is honorable. You are no Samurai." - “OK. I’ll teach you.” **Abandons her revenge and risks her life to save Taigen** I stood up and started clapping. What a landmark in Mizu's character arc.
That wasn't only about Taigen. Both she and Taigen were seriously hurt and they were losing. And she also saw the map so she knew the attack coming their way. It was the right time to step back regroup and come back stronger later.
I really appreciate that they show the toll going to such lengths takes on Mizu. She isn't superhuman. She's only upright by sheer force of will by the end, proving that her determination is stronger than any other.
I think they did a great job changing up this episode. Last one is such a lore drop (and mic drop,) so this one just goes a completely different way in an equally stunning manner. The music paired with the visuals.
Thank you for your reaction, Miss Claudie! Even taking into account the unrealistic nature of some moments, I adore Blue Eye Samurai and am looking forward to the second season. Mizu, like in your case, quickly won my heart and soul🥺🤲🖤
I think this episode clearly shows Mizu's attachments to the people she cares/cared for. She doesn't seem to want this but cannot help it, she is human after all...

Can't help thinking we'll be seeing Claudie interviewed on Good Morning Britain before long in a segment called "I married a 400 year old half Japanese cartoon character".

Love this show, glad I tagged along with you on this. I still lean towards Arcane for which I connect to more, I understand and feel a lot of the emotional trauma on a personal level. I am invested in BES but Arcane breaks me, every time. Thank you for another awesome vid, Claudie. Cheers.
Shows like this make me miss the days when I used to do martial arts. We trained a lot with naginata and katana. Of course, nothing like this show which is heavily stylised, but the training was still fun and interesting. I'm too old to go back now, but I do wish I'd kept it up. It's 20 years ago this year that I stopped training.
This is definitely one of the more polarizing eps of the series. Either you can suspend your disbelief and enjoy it for the fictional romp that it is, or you get hung up on all the "how is Mizu alive???" technicalities.
Also! It delights me that in the previous ep, Mizu tells Ringo "there's no place (on her path) for love or friendship or weakness," that episode quite literally ends with Akemi telling the audience that she searched Mizu's eyes for "a sign of love or mercy or good" and saw only darkness... and then we have a whole episode of Mizu disproving that. She saves Taigen again and again and AGAIN this episode, showing friendship and weakness and mercy and good, because she inherently has those qualities. She can try and squash them down, but they're part of who she is, no matter how deeply a "monster" she becomes. I, too, just want her to have a happily ever after 😭
Oh really I didn't think it was too 'silly' in terms of action tbh, I really liked it! But them I'm open to a little bit of 'lack of realism' as long as the story and writing cover it if that makes sense
@@ClaudieTV i think people need to understand that at the end of the day that it is still a tv show and it was made for our enjoyment.if the shows or movies or games where realistic then all media is pointless because characters would die at the beginning of the story

I love your reactions! If I may recommend a show you could maybe watch after Blue Eye Samurai you should give Castlevania a try. It is very much adult-themed like BES, but the characters are absolutely amazing. I especially love the complexity of both the "good" and "bad" guys/girls in the show.
I never actually thought of the fact that all those dead ‘bastard’ children could technically be her brothers & sisters ..well caught. I wonder if Mizu did?
I don’t remember any other woman in media so strong like Mizu. And not just physically, she is going through a self acceptance journey with everything against even herself. I told she make me want to bow to her face down to the ground. (Im so glad you ship them together🎉 (I send you the playlist and there is one about Mizu and taigen)
The stress each scene puts you through just compounds the already immense tension of the episode. That tension is then broken by ..... "Lads, she hitting him with a leg" 🤣
I was so excited to start BES with you, one of my favorite series. This episode and ep 05 were on rotation for a long time at my home. Just so you know, Mizu and Cait are played by the same animated actress in my head cannon. Can't wait for your "research" on some scenes on the next episode...
Hearing Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" in the intro got me so hyped for this episode. Then when I heard the Japanese lyrics during the fight with the giant I almost lost my mind! Some of the song's lyrics are perfect for this episode... "Take a look to the sky just before you die; It's the last time you will" - when Mizu is looking up at the castle in preparation for the fight. Obviously she has no intention of dying, but she knows full well it could happen. Bonus points for the 3 stars that signify the 3 remaining white men. "Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry" - Mizu's disappointment and rage at not being able to fulfill her goal to kill Fowler. But then... "Crack of dawn, all is gone, except the will to be" - I interpret this as Mizu accepting that she won't succeed this time. All is gone *for now*, but she still has the will to fight on... "Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see" - Mizu's flashbacks give her a sense of calm, allowing her to see clearly. No longer blinded by rage, she decides to take the more righteous path. Save Taigen, make up with Ringo, and devise a new plan. Honestly the whole song is relevant. After all it's about a battle. Maybe I'm pulling this all out of my ass, but that's the beauty of art, right? The viewer can interpret it as they choose 😃
I watched through your Arcane reactions and Blue Eye Samurai so far and I had a thought/suggestion. Your combination of emotionality and good perception for detail makes me wonder if you will want to react to The Expanse TV show. I heard an off-hand reference that you watched Dr. Who, so at the least you aren't allergic to science fiction in theory and Expanse probably have the best character writing in long-form TV of the past several years. It is a long series and so quite a commitment, but it is worth it I think.
The Expanse started off strong, but I feel like it fell off hard in the last couple seasons. They neutered some of the most interesting characters and flat out gave up on the last season (imo). Left a bad taste in my mouth. I would probably suggest Battlestar Galactica (2004) over The Expanse, but that's another LONG haul (like 70 episodes?). With Claudie's lineup, she probably wouldn't get to this for years 😂
@@craigetienne5937 I consider 5th season as still pretty strong. 6th is weaker but it is mostly because of how much they tried to cram into 6 episodes. Honestly, they did good with what they had. Expanse was like an Arcane in that regard. It was a miracle that the show was made at all. 5th season also was hit hard with whole thing about Alex Kamal actor but it was definitely not their fault. I personally also not a fan of how much they warped the story to give Drummer more screen time each season, but a lot of people literally swear by Kara Gee performance, so I cannot really complain about that either.
@@CruelDwarf don't want to risk spoilers in case Claudie does want to watch it, but I thought Drummer started as a strong, no bullshit woman and turned into a waste of space (i.e. poorly written) later in the show. It really is a shame since she was one of my favorite characters at the beginning. Don't get me wrong, the show starts off strong and was one of my favorites for a while. It was a breath of fresh air to see a Sci-Fi show acknowledge physics and address how humans could actually handle space travel in a semi-believable way. The intra-solar system social/political dynamics were great. It just sort of fell apart for me. And if I'm completely honest, the acting was mediocre - except for Thomas Jane as Miller... amazing performance!
29:13 You hit it spot on, the reason why the female characters in this show and Arcane works so well compared to other shows and movies is that they are not "Female characters" but "Characters that just so happen to be female" and there is a massive difference between the two
This was crazy! When the Matrix, Kill Bill and Mission: Impossible colide in one animated episode. The way Mizu slapped the consiousness out of Taigen made me choke on my tea! Poor man has no living spot on his body and she just goes sllaaaapboom 😂 Speaking in Claudie's language SHU UP she said with no words, just with her palm 🤫 And also imagine climbing half a mile up the wall with a dude on your back... for then to just jump outta window back down with him 👊👏👏👏👏👏👏 cinema! This episode is a rollercoaster of action, suspense, and a touch of madness. If you thought your last escape room was tough, try escaping a castle full of traps, enemies, shimmered zombies, baboons and being drugged and injured, jumping outta window... with a dude in your hands. Mizu's got this! Wonder woman. 🌀💧🌊💙

I dunno if you've ever played TLOU1/2...but a lot of Mizu's determination, grit and self destructiveness feels a lot like Ellie's journey in those two games. I think you'd really like them, if you already weren't a gamer. We also have the HBO series, but I'm not sure if those games really capture the Ellie from the game in the same manner. (not to say she's not great in her own way) Edit: Specifically this episode gives me big Kill Bill vibes. Very similar plot from this. Dunno how you'd do with the squeemish parts lol
@@ClaudieTV Exciting! You might want to make a seperate gaming channel if thats the case. I know it might seem excessive this early in your channel, but trust me, youtube algorithm gets confused when you have long form and shorter content on one channel. I know people who started doing gaming and tv/movies on the same channel and they always had to split them eventually. Maybe talk around to other content creators who know more than me though. I'm just a casual viewer who follows the journey of a bunch of reaction channels. So take it with a grain of salt.
I think they were teasing that perhaps Mizu could in-fact, be supernatural and they still may, because the GRIP strength need to hold on, vertically using just your finger grip strength-climbing WITH a full grown man on your back is asking a lot of the viewer. Lol.

Hello Claudie! If you are considering reacting to Avatar: The Last Airbender I would recommend that you watch the first and second episodes in one sitting. It gives a proper introduction to the show and that was how it was first introduced to us for it's premiere on Nickelodeon. This show is one of if not the best animated series of all time. For a children's show, it has some dark themes that are executed brilliantly. The show does take some time to build up (around episode 12) but trust me when I say it is worth it. (If you want to speed up to that point you can just watch 2 epsiodes at a time) You said that you liked fight scenes and I can tell that you're all for strong women😂 and ATLA has NO SHORTAGE of that. There is also a sequel series called "The Legend of Korra" but that's a story for another time. If you do choose to react to it, prepare for your channel to be absolutely flooded by ATLA fans. Ciao❤
Yeah I can concur most of this. Avatar is a GREAT way to build your channel (although it might end up pigeon holing you into a bunch of anime recommendations). But the algorithm will be VERY friendly do you considering what you've already reacted to on this channel.
Atla is a really good show but it IS a kids show first and foremost and this is great advice. All the adult stuff is safely in the background (kinda) until the show really gets going but when it finally goes there Atla handles the weight of it all perfectly. The kids are homeless war orphans on an impossible quest they only start because they are too dim to realise how hopeless it all is.
@@broadwaybroadI agree with you. I never really cared much for ATLA but the Legend of Korra is excellent and definitely more mature. LOK is a great choice to watch.
It might be hard for us to think that other people than Ringo don’t catch on to the fact that Mizu is a woman, but when you think about the world they live in, there are only two paths for girls. You can either become a wife or a wh*re. So it wouldn’t even register in their brains as an option, that Mizu could be a woman, especially with how well she fights I just love your reactions and all the simping for Mizu. Such a mood
No spoilers, but Ringo is the only person that knows about her being "her". I told you this was fantastic. I'm having a real hard time coming up with another suggestion to watch. The only thing that is an across the board winner is The Expanse. I can't recall anyone not liking/loving it.
how strong is Mizu? Perhaps a little too much, the suspension of disbelief goes out the window a bit xD Still one of the best episodes of the series, we love you Ringo 😎
This show (and particularly this episode) remind me of the game "Ghost of Tsushima". It's set in the 1200s during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. You play as one of the last surviving samurai of your clan, obligated to repel the Mongol invasion. You're forced to forsake your traditional samurai ways and become the "ghost" (basically a parallel to the Onryo that Mizu becomes) in order to defeat a superior invading force. Lots of fighting where you're vastly outnumbered, just like most of this episode lol. You can also choose a more stealthy path and "be like smoke", as Mizu said in episode 4. Fantastic game with stunning visuals, but probably a pass if you're squeamish 🤣
Ghost of Yotei might even be a closer parallel when it arrives. It's set in the early 17th century (about 50 years before this series), and the main character is female. Looking forward to that, although like Tsushima, it'll probably be several years before it arrives on the PC so I'll have to be patient.
@@bujin1977 LOL - I literally just found out about the sequel and was about to post this. It's definitely worth playing Ghost of Tsushima, though... what an epic game. I played on PS5 - the haptic feedback and audio on the controller is insane. You feel the clashes, the rumbling of the horse's hooves while riding, even the sound of the wind blowing comes through the speaker on the controller. So immersive!
@ClaudieTV You know what, yeah, let's forget about it. But while you're here, can you help me clean the snow off the top of my vehicle? I can't reach it. I'll owe you. Haha this was fun 🤣
I was disappointed with this episode. Here Mizu is shown as a superman who doesn’t care about injuries and has super strength. I thought this series was more serious and realistic than it actually is.

Will take a look, and if it's up my street, I'll note it down :)
😂😂😂 Mizu is a manace!! She doesn't know how to die!!... 😅😅😅😅😅
What a wonderful way to start my morning 💜
Great episode, great action sequences, GREAT MIZU!!
29:13 You hit it spot on, the reason why the female characters in this show and Arcane works so well compared to other shows and movies is that they are not "Female characters" but "Characters that just so happen to be female" and there is a massive difference between the two
Yup, that's the wonderful thing about both those shows :)
Don't give Miss Claudie ideas, she'll just slap her palm on the camera whenever she wants us to shut up!! 🤣
Yeah this is for sure in my top 3 episodes so far! Honestly so awesome!
@@Kittyfantastico I didn't say anything about that, so if she would do so it's on you actually if she will see this🤣🤣🤣Oh and hell no, knowing her she'll rather say it and it hits harder than a palm you know but in a cute way😆🤫
@@ClaudieTV Agreed but there's two more left, so maybe ranks might change, or maybe not. I don't know yet, you do🤫 I need to prepare myself AGAIN to more stuff going on there. Can't wait for the next one which I think is coming a lil later, not tomorrow at least? 💙And I think I already know which exactly scene you will lose your mind over 😏😉 We'll see 😘
I'm finally home. Lets gooooooooo!!
As a fellow brit, I agree with your apology
Also, cheesepuff 😆
🤣
May i just say claudie has a beautiful smile
Like oh heavens who designed you this beautifully? Stupidly cute smile. Stupid cute laugh.
Really ah thank you so much, I appreciate that
@ your welcome, milady🙌🏼
Ringos the best - MIzu and Taigen should apriciate him more. - And this episode has a lot of Tarentino splatter vibes 😂.
Yeah it does actually, not seen a lot of Tarantino but you're right it does have that vibe
(not to say she's not great in her own way)
Edit: Specifically this episode gives me big Kill Bill vibes. Very similar plot from this. Dunno how you'd do with the squeemish parts lol
Thinking of playing TLOU on the channel :)
Lol.
Yeah it's obscene tbh but I did love it, I must admit
As someone who is also British I would also like to formally apologise for the Cheese puff
😂
31:29 I mean… historically though…. He’s not entirely wrong lol
Early twonk gang.
Buffy the vampire slayer was the show while I was growing up that showed me powerful women for the first time.
There was lots of different types of power, not just physical, and will forever be my number 1 show
Ah never seen it
@ClaudieTV Growing up in a racist/transphobic etc home, it's not hyperbole to say the weekly episodes saved my life.
@@Kittyfantastico That was Xena for me. I think it started 1 year before Buffy.
@@lisatindall2556 AH, Lucy Lawless is also in my heart. The way they managed to show wlw in a series that was forbidden for doing just that was amazing
“Oh, you are so beautiful. You know you are.” If only she did 😢 With Mikio, in her happiness, I wonder if she ever allowed this thought in her mind? Now, it seems she would fully reject it - as she has her whole life.
Yeah that's the sad thing, she'd have no idea
Watched the BTS today and loved it.
Next episode is a banger, cant wait for you to see it :D
Will watch it asap haha I want to binge it so bad but have to refrain haha
8:02 looks like cottage cheese
Not where my mind was going....
I liked Korra more than ATLA because it was more mature, but to each their own.
@broadwaybroad Same! But I was too scared to say it out loud lol.
So it wouldn’t even register in their brains as an option, that Mizu could be a woman, especially with how well she fights
I just love your reactions and all the simping for Mizu. Such a mood
Yup I agree! And thank you haha amazing how underrated she is
Here we go again.
Ringo the main man ❤️
No spoilers, but Ringo is the only person that knows about her being "her".
I told you this was fantastic. I'm having a real hard time coming up with another suggestion to watch. The only thing that is an across the board winner is The Expanse. I can't recall anyone not liking/loving it.
Noted :)
I wouldn't say this episode is totally video game. Given some scene choices I just think author really loved Kill Bill.
If you're looking for inspirations to start your training i reccommend swordfighting, just because it's cool and kinda hot as well, just saying 😶🌫️
No ulterior motives, honest *cough* we want to see you swordfight Miss Claudie *cough*
🤣
I honestly want to try it, so yeah maybe sometime this year haha
@@ClaudieTV Young McClaudie had a sword, I-ai-i-ai-do. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iaido
I think what Fowler serves the men are cottage cheese.
I f***ing hope it is
how strong is Mizu? Perhaps a little too much, the suspension of disbelief goes out the window a bit xD Still one of the best episodes of the series, we love you Ringo 😎
Yeah, I did kinda love it tho, and tbh Taigen is her height, so it makes it a little more believable
Ah cool will look into it :)
I apologize Claudie...but I asked Mizu for their hand in marriage episodes ago. We may have to duel. 😂
'Ugh... I challenge thee to a duel. Pick your weapon...' *pulls out a large stick, awkwardly*
@ClaudieTV woah woah woah...that stick is bigger than I am, not fair. 'Opens car and pulls out 5 year old snow brush'...its all I got hahaha 😆
@@Cjmm22 *stares back at snow brush, then back to the stick...* '...You wanna just forget about it?' 🤷♀😂
@ClaudieTV You know what, yeah, let's forget about it. But while you're here, can you help me clean the snow off the top of my vehicle? I can't reach it. I'll owe you.
Haha this was fun 🤣
@@Cjmm22 'Oh sure thing...' *starts climbing up the stick to get to the top of the car*
😂
Ok, so what is Mizu & Taigen's ship name??
Taizu
Mizen
Lanky and Grumpy.... probably works
@@ClaudieTV 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was disappointed with this episode. Here Mizu is shown as a superman who doesn’t care about injuries and has super strength. I thought this series was more serious and realistic than it actually is.
Really? Oh I loved it tbh, thought it was great! And set her apart from other samurai and that she is becoming more of the Onryō they fear
Yeahh... and a lead bullet broke a hardenet Steel sword.... Back then.... The only Steel weapon was Swords....
Bullets was made of lead...
You're wanna train "Crossfit", that's your goal. It's hardcore centercore training in your body, try it and let me know what you think 😉 😘
In no place to do CrossFit right now, hahahaha! But thank you for the pointer :)
the next episode is great but if I know @claudietv well she's not going to see much of it (it's not for the faint-hearted and shy)
Will watch it asap haha too excited to see how this season ends
