We finally decided to pull the trigger on a "new" motor for our 2005 Nissan Xterra. The previous motor was burning about 2 quarts of oil a week so we decided that it was time.

What all exactly did you swap over from the old engine to the new one?
Where did you get your exhaust manifold? Looks amazing!
those are Doug Thorley long tube headers
Head gasket replacement on a VQ40... Pull and replace with a used motor or pull the heads and replace the gaskets? (Engine did not overheat and *runs* well right now outside of puffing white smoke)

Were the primary cats plugged? Please let us know what you found that may have caused the failure.
We believe they were at one time. The previous owner gutted the cats prior to us taking the vehicle but it appears that cat failure may have blown catalyst media into the passenger side cylinders, eroding cylinder walls and piston rings, leading to excessive oil consumption. We haven't torn the old engine down to inspect but we may in the future if we find time to.
Yeah, but could you swap the VQ40 into a 370Z in say.... 20 minutes?
Could it be stroked and bored to say...4.7L?

i think we paid around 1500 or 2000 for it.
How many miles on the old Xterra engine?
was 273k
What is the charge to do this for a customer?
Wont be something we will offer to a customer sadly. We mostly do suspension installs every now and then :)
