    I own a 2003 Toyota Rav 4, bought it used in 2009 and it's STILL going strong with almost 200,000 miles. I recently got a tune up and replaced the o2 sensor (mind you that's the biggest repair in 14 years) and plan on upgrading to a 2019 Rav 4 within the next 6 months to a year. I hope to keep this one for just as long and happy to hear I'm not the only one who loves to hang on to their Toyotas. Great review fellas!

      Toyotas go forever Gem. You shouldn’t have a problem riding it for many miles. Plus the wait won’t be as long on a used one. New Ravs can take up to two years.
      Thanks again Gem. We appreciate the comment and support.

    I have the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XLE Premium and I changed the fog lights it came with to the XSE “thin” fog lights to it. (Because I think they look the BEST on this generation of the RAV. I also changed the infotainment system to a 12.3 inch one (the same one on the new Venza) and because the Venza is built on a RAV4 chasis, it works perfectly fine. Long story short, I have a one of a kind RAV4 that NO ONE on earth has now. 😂😊

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  Рік тому

      That’s amazing. Is that all from Toyota or did you go aftermarket?

    • @IRLSuperb
      @IRLSuperb Рік тому +2

      @@HoodSlappersOfficial the infotainment harness is a little bit different, but as long as it’s from TOYOTA, you can still plug-in the same cables. The fog lights were from another XSE and what I ended up doing was I cut the positive, negative, and ground cables and joint them with my existing RAV4’s wires. It took a little bit of effort, because I didn’t know which one was the positive and the negative but it eventually worked perfectly fine. If you know a little bit of electric work, you can plug any fog lights of any car to another car, even if the harness is not the same, same thing with the infotainment. Of course I had to disconnect the battery just to make sure I didn’t short circuiting anything 😅.
      Do I recommend this? no because it will definitely void the warranty when it comes to the components that you touch. You should still be OK when it comes to the drivetrain warranty, but anything that you touch will be off the table if something bad happens. however, for me, these lights look amazing and the huge Venza screen give the RAV4 a customized look that I love. definitely should only be done. If you know what you’re getting yourself into I have zero regrets on mines 😊

    Thanks Guys for responding to my request for which vehicle to review. I'm not disappointed. I fit perfectly into your description of a Toyota owner - longevity is more important than flash! My current Toyota (out here in Uganda) is a 1994 LandCruiser Prado with about 400,000km and a very dated interior and I still drive it on rough dirt roads in the most remote locations. Looking forward to buying something a little newer when I return to Canada and the RAV4 Hybrid is definitely on my list though a little more than I really want to pay. Are there any reliable hybrids that are a little cheaper and how do they compare? Thanks again!

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  Рік тому +3

      John, we are so glad you enjoyed it. We really liked the RAV4! Great choice. You obviously have seen first hand how good a Toyota still is after many years. The Land Cruiser is a particular favourite of ours. You don't see too many over here. With regards to your question, if you are looking at something in a similar size to a RAV4 Hybrid, you will see higher starting prices. The RAV4 isn't the cheapest, but Toyota knows Hybrids better than anyone. If you are looking for something cheaper, Kia does have their Hybrid Sportage that starts just under $40,000. Personally, that's close enough to an entry level RAV4 Hybrid, that it's worth those few extra dollars to treat yourself to something you know will last a long time. One vehicle that we do admire right now is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. We only reviewed a petrol Outlander, but have heard many good things about the PHEV (Plug In Hybrid). If the size doesn't have to be that of a RAV4, then your options open up a lot more as there are many smaller SUV's that come in Hybrid models. We hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching!

      It was typical Toyota. When accelerating, the engine sounds like it’s working extra hard. But that’s a very small price to pay. Otherwise the road noise and wind is absolutely fine when you’re cruising. All and all, the RAV4 is still a solid reliable vehicle.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  Рік тому +1

      Vishnu, thanks for the comment and for watching the review. Realistically, it all depends on where you live to rely on all wheel drive. We are from Ontario, in areas where the road is always plowed. AWD is not a massive concern. We will say this, winter tires would be a great thing to purchase for any vehicle. Not only does the rubber stay sold in the winter, but they can also bring down your insurance premium.
      So AWD drive is completely up to you if you think you’ll need it where you live. But we would recommend snow tires for whatever vehicle you purchase.

    You spoke about how Toyota drivers often look to drive their cars for 15 years, but never addressed the viability of a hybrid lasting that long. I have no doubt a non-hybrid RAV4 will go 15 years easy, but do you have confidence the battery will go the distance? They aren't cheap.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching Brad. We appreciate the question. The batteries can be pricey ranging anywhere from three to eight thousand. The length of use is also a factor based on where you live. Personal opinion, the Hybrid is a fantastic car to lease. It will give you the economy you need for the length of your lease. If you choose to finance or pay cash, and expect to keep it for as long as it will run, then expect to pay for a battery as part of your hybrid maintenance.
      With regards to the study, a it didn’t specify what Toyotas they were in particular.

    Great review! And great price for this car in Canada and US. Entry level non hybrid starts at €44500 (CA$66000 😰) overhere in the Netherlands. However, other brands cost a similar amount, so I decided to go for the RAV4.
    Weird thing is the towing capability. In Europe the non hybrid with manual transmissision can tow up to 2000kg (around 4000 pounds), the CVT non hybrid does 1500kg, the hybrid 2WD only 800kg and the hybrid AWD 1650kg.
    I do intend to keep it for a very long time. I’m trading in my 2015 Mercedes C220, great car to drive, but always ‘something’ going on that needs repair. I’m really looking forward to the famous Toyota reliability. It comes with a 10 year warranty, so the bar is set high enough 😂

    Good review. But when did $37,500 become a bargain? I could buy two used Subaru's for that and have money leftover for the first 2 years of maintenance, lol. And since Subaru and Toyota are sharing a lot of the same tech now, I just couldn't justify a Rav4 Hybrid, even used. I like the idea of a hybrid, but 37k is still a LOT of money for most consumers. It would take probably 8-10 years for the gas savings to catch up with the cost difference between the AWD rav4 and the hybrid version.

      We welcome your opinion. Here is the question Francois; do you think if that happens, the Corolla Cross will come out with a very high and luxurious trim level to bridge that gap between the two vehicles?

    Too much yakking it up, more review of features in a critical manner.

    You guys seem to be copying Straight pipes and Throttle house.
    Also no one is this excited about a Rav4

    At nine months waiting for an XSE with tech and I'm not even in Canada.

      Toyota seems to be one of the longer waits. Where are you from?

      @@HoodSlappersOfficial Michigan, been at the top of my dealership's list since December they've gotten three XSEs allocated since then but none with the advance tech package which is one of the two things I'm firm on, other being it not being white/Wind Chill Pearl. Even they're apparently feeling bad my wait time, my sales guy supposedly spoke directly to their regional representative about getting an allocation of what I want. I'll see next week if it did anything or if I'll be going into July still waiting for an allocation.
      I really should've cast a wider net, it's a little frustrating seeing smaller dealerships 2.5 hours away away getting exactly what I wanted. Not to mention online where some lucky (weird to call someone lucky having to spend over $40,000 for a Toyota) only waited two or three months from deposit to allocation to delivery.

      @lPHOENIXZEROl a wider net is a very popular idea. The only issue is that a dealer may keep a deposit if you ask to cancel your order. When it’s far out, it’s no big deal, but when it’s on route to the dealer and has a VIN, they could be a little less helpful on the refund. Either way, the wait is worth getting what you want.

      @@HoodSlappersOfficial Yeah, that was a reason I didn't go to more dealerships, lack of refundable deposits from the few places I called, just glad I wasn't and still not desperate for a vehicle if so I would've went elsewhere a while ago. The dealership I did go with did the non-refundable deposit thing too but with exceptions.
