You have such joie de vivre! I don’t comment on your videos very often, though I enjoy them very much, but in this one I really felt your energy and zest for discovering our world and had to let you know. Adaptability is such an important trait, and you certainly possess plenty of it. How wonderful that you take and learn from every experience. Happy Moving. This was a real pleasure to watch Helena. Thank you for sharing. 🌸

Thank you for this enthusiastic view of life. My husband and I have lived in 6 cities in the USA and Canada in our lives together and our friends are all surprised that we"ve "moved so much". I always hated moving though... the stuff, the organization, the uncertainty of the future, etc. etc. but in the end, it has served me well. (We didn't travel as light as you.) You're blessed to have met a partner who savors the same joy in living and experiencing the simple joys, not the comfortable, settled, predictable joys of external stability. Stability is an inner world, not an outer one. I applaud you. Rock on!

Ah Karen, you always write the most delightful comments. I always treasure them and look forward to reading them when I see your profile pic 🥰 You share such wisdom - stability is indeed an inner world and not an outer one! So many people think stability is just on the outside - the home we live in, the stable job, the stable comfortable life, but stability can also be internal. Love this so much 💕 Thank you for sharing your beautiful light with me!

I agree. I was lucky enough to be able to spend 15 years traveling and living in many countries when I was a teen and young adult. At around 35 I thought I should think about a career (this was pre-internet, pre- UA-cam) which I did for 30 years. Looking back, I value my expat years very highly while my "career" years were significant in lessons learned about boredom, dealing with toxic and ambitious people I was forced to be with, self-discipline in purseveering despite unpleasantness, and other memories that make me proud I survived the experience . Traveling is not to be feared. Dealing with inexperienced, close-minded people who have never traveled is much more treacherous. Living frugally and simply is much more enjoyable than living in a lovely house with a mortgage and space I can't be in because I'm busy working to pay for it.

This video is very well done! We agree that living abroad can be, and has been for us, a super enriching experience! We have learned so much about life and ourselves during our time living in France. However, we can say the same for the experience of pursuing both our bachelor’s degrees in the United States and master’s degrees in France. Our academic pursuits have enriched our lives in many ways and opened many doors for us, including the opportunity to move, live, work, and travel abroad. We really view the academic/book-knowledge route and the spontaneous/globetrotting route as complimentary to one another rather than juxtaposed. This is our perspective as expats that have experienced all of the benefits you described while also pursuing higher education, which we believe is also a valuable way to be challenged, to gain knowledge about the world, to become more adaptable, and to cultivate wisdom. 🙂

This is how I feel too! Getting my doctorate in the US as an American, and I wish to globe trot for travel and research for the rest of my life. Do you have any tips on picking up a new language?

Another magical video, and man can I relate to this! As a Scorpio rising and Sag moon I don't think I could NOT be someone who needs change and adventure in their life constantly. Last year was my 15th move in the last 20 years. How I wish many of them had been abroad, but also, only one. But I have plans! Oh, do I have plans 💜

Thing to remember is what might be good for us doesn’t mean it is for everyone. When you say that those remaining in one place where they are comfortable is not where the joys in life are to be found you really dismiss and belittle those who live a comfortable stationary life in one place. That’s so unfair. There have been millions and millions of people who have lived comfortable lives in one place and found those joys you speak about so to say the way you live is where the answers to joy is to be found is simple and absolutely false. It’s wonderful you have found happiness in the way you live but please respect others right to finding their happiness in their own way. Such a sad commentary for sure.

I have a video coming out next on this! 💕 But real quickly, my go-tos I always pack: 2-3 favorite colorful pillows to make the place more "me", cozy blanket, candles, candle stick holders, 1 small lamp (weird but it completely changes the space!), pen holder, a few printed pictures and tacks, my yoga mat, small little palm-sized dishes for jewelry, etc. A soap dish I love. Twinkle lights, and a small basket or two for holding stationary supplies! 🤗

This lifestyle of being nomad sounds dreamy and broadening. However, there is something to be said for staying put, building community, caring for your elders. Where would we be without those that stay and build deep connections to their land and cultures…like farmers. Much of the beauty of places visited by travelers is due to commitments made by those that stayed and settled for generations.

Thanks for sharing your story :)

I love exploring to new places, different countries and learning other cultures. I love traveling! It has given me a better understanding and appreciation of all our differences and commonalities. While it is not practical for me to live a more 'nomadic' life at this stage of my life, traveling is something I am able to do for now.
