Perfect timing for this video Helena!! I'm always reading a lot in autumn 😍🍁 I mean snuggling up with a cozy blanket, a cup of hot tea and a good book while it's cold and rainy outside is a mood!!! 🍂 Thank you for the recommendations 💚
I like the sound of the book on Laziness. I completely agree with what you say about how society expects us all to be 'doing doung' all the time. I've always felt guilty when not 'doing' but have had to learn a hard lesson since I had to retire from work due to having ME/CFS. The ME/CFS have had to experience being called lazy as the condition wasnt taken seriously for years. I think the pressure on all of us to work, work, work and 'be the best' has caused an epidemic of mental and physical problems. Buddhism has taught the concept of slow living and being mindful for 2,500 years. People are finally waking up to this wisdom. My Buddhist books have helped me so much as has your channel.Thank you so much for your videos.
YES!! Thank you!! I remember I heard about it from you! Thank you for sharing it, it's one of my absolute FAVORITES now! 💕🤗And so cool that you're a librarian! 😍📚
Hello from India ... yesterday I searched you on Instagram for the kind of books you read I wanted to know them.. but today universe blessed me with this video ... thanks a lot for the list of books and please keep on sharing your reads with us and books that touched your heart. 😊
These are truly great recommendations, such gems, like most folks I enjoy the calmness of reading a wonderful book, especially when the weather is cooling down so much. Literally it was so windy and stormy in New York yesterday which makes for the perfect reading weather! 🖤
I am saving this video to refer to! All these books sound so good.. I have had The Untethered Soul on my shelf for years and have yet to read it! I guess I'll start there! ✨ I love the sound of Laziness Does Not Exist. We simply are not machines! Can't wait to read these! Thank you Helena! 💛
I’m just completed reading The UntetheredSoul right now after you mentioned it in another video. And I’m re-reading it again and watching Michael Singer’s podcasts that extends what he says in the book. I can’t get enough of it! You are so right about how good it is. Thank you for the recommendation! 🙏🏼
Thanks Helena! I have a long list of books that I intended on reading or have started and although I intend on reading more frequently which I love to do...I find myself doing something else and not taking the time. I love the idea of being intentional and taking the time to read daily. Tool out my book and reading as we speak. Love the quietness of it all..not enough of it. These are gems.
Helena, Thank you very much for your channel. The first video I watched was your story of leaving the United States. It strongly resonated with me; shining a better understanding of how out of shape, out of touch, and out of energy I am through this fast-paced must-do-it-all-now existence. It is time to begin living and enjoying life. Don't stop with your mission and passion.
An Aussie book that I have enjoyed, which I believe falls within the slow living space is “The Art Of Frugal Hedonism: A guide to spending less while enjoying everything more”. By Annie Raser-Rowland with Adam Grubb It helps put the longing for a simpler life into practical suggestions.
Thanks for sharing this I don' t think that I am a lazy person just someone who gets burnt out and needs to admire what is around me, plus to take time to rest, care for me or just be grateful to be living
Heart of Kentucky. Hey sweetheart Helena/Simple Joys. Good to see you. I'm on book 8, the last of the series of Anne of Green Gables. Beautiful readings on nature, laughter, life lessons. These are some of the best books I've ever read. I'm reading a medical book, someone recommended to me. Gut and physiology syndrome. It's my own book and real thick. I have to have a rested mind to read it. Still praying for you and Alex to be blessed and safe. Katie.
I will have to look into those especially the last one. I will recommend other great books of my own for slow living: Washing Dishes is Good for You, Walking in the Rain (both from Department Store for the Mind), Slow by Brooke McAlary and the last one which changed my life when I read it recently is Find The Good by Heather Lende. She is an obituary writer in Alaska and shares stories about people who passed and to slow down and appreciate our connection with others as we all face our own mortality one day. Enjoy your channel!
I know I'm very late to this video, but my favorite slow[ish] living book currently is Effortless by Greg McKeown. It's the follow up to Essentialism. It's about how to make what is essential easier, because it is human nature to make this complicated. It provided me with so many nuggets and ideas for simplifying processes and being able to identify things that are more complicated than necessary. It's a book I'll read over and over again.
Thank you so much for the book recommendations. I read Chasing Slow and it spoke so much to me and I took lots notes as well. Going book shopping today after watching this video. Sending hugs and best wishes.❤️
Thank you for this precious piece ! Loved it and am going to look up every single one! I love the work of Haemin Sunim " The things you can see only when you slow down...."
Hi Helena! I am a total bookworm too, reading 3 books at any given time! I've read some of these and now have more to add to my list! Thank you for these awesome recommendations!
I really agree about being more thoughtful and taking notes to remember books messages and impactfuln scenes. I'd like to document my reading journey, opinion and to slow down to really understand and enjoy my reading time
Just found your channel and I really enjoyed this show. I ordered all the books you recommended and I'm looking forward to reading through them. Best wishes!
This was GREAT!! I have (and also love) both Chasing Slow and The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating… I’m so glad you loved them too! I cant wait to check out your other recommendations - especially Silence!🙂
Hello Helena , ... Yes , Reading Books Is A Simple , Old World Charm Joy .. Thank You ... Hope It Revives The Forgotten Joy Of Reading Books Which Is Mentally Stimulating 😊
On top of Wild Snail Eating being a fantastic book, it’s also a fantastic short film, and the author is one of kindest people I know. Made me really happy to see you mention her book!
Thank you Helena for these wonderful book ideas! A couple of them really stood out for me and I look forward to reading them. I too had my life changed by reading " the untethered soul." It is definitely on the top of my list! So glad to hear how much you love it too! 🧡🍂🎃😻. Thank you so much for all the inspiration that you share! 💝
Thank you for the recommendations! I haven't read any of these books and will definitely pick up one of them next week! Are there any online Facebook groups/ sites that you would recommend too? The other day I tried looking it up but didn't really come across anything. Thank you!
I'm not active on Facebook. I only have an account so that I can host my own FB group for the simple joys community. I love Reddit though! There is a great simple living subreddit www.reddit.com/r/simpleliving/ 🤗💕
Thank you Helena for books recommendation : ) I personally like this one: "The things you can only see when you slow down" by HAEMIN SUNIM I will give a try for The UntetheredSoul tonight.
I Really loved The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating and will always want it at my bedside. There wasa video of the snail on the author’s website at one time. Exquisite.
Thank you for such a great list. I'll check my local bookstore when next I go. I don't know if you'll see this, but I would love to know the eyeshadow you are wearing. I think those colors would look good on me and are what I am looking for. Thank you. Your makeup looks lovely.
Phew. Your reading sounds like hard work! As I studied English Literature at university I had my fill of making notes when reading. I now just read. I appreciate that its whatever works for you but for me reading can never be goal orientated. I personally think the modern world is too obsessed with 'goals' which can make me feel pressured and stressed. I also dont enjoy reading groups as I like to choose my own books and read them in my own time.
I used to love books /at some point the kind /the way I have dyslexia I cant remember sequences and so got the characters mixed up/then I just lost interest in books and then my life is so much more interesting then reading books / real life /living poetry and becoming a poetic gardener and writing the kind of meaningful books that I haven't seen in the world, designing and building trojan goat shaped buildings and feeding goats roses for their milk, / making viking artifact gardens in the shapes of the broaches the viking women pinned up their cloaks with , carving couples beds with dragons on them /and hand stitching 21 beautiful curtains with flowers clovers and roses on them, and wooden throne like chairs to rest in/having the whole poetic mien (for cognitive feeling)instead of prose thought,Its not being busy thats a problem its what your being busy with, hand stitching 21 curtains is being very busy yet hand/stitching is more deep living then reading a book to me!- - -
Damn i was Gonna write a comment about how you are better then a paid reviewer. But then you brought up the Mark Manson book, which i have to admit was pretty good years ago. But i just happened to tear it apart as garbage a few days ago when cleaning my bedroom.
Hey Kunal! :) Of course I do! Great to see you! I don't really take notes on fiction, unless it's a passage that I really love. I save quotes from fiction reads that inspire me and that I'll later journal and reflect on it.
@@helenawoods yes super, i can relate with the book. Thanks for sharing .. and more power on your channel .. i hope i can reach even 1/10 of your subscribers heheb:)

Love your videos and just bought your ejounal. My question is this: Many of us cannot live slow or simply because times demand that we step up for the sake of the many social justice crises around the world that demand our work. We are exhausted and struggling. Please help us as we do the work. Thank you.
Well I got the snail book I’m only a few pages in so far it’s OK. I got your number one book the untethered soul and I don’t think I will even read it because I’m a Christian and I don’t want anyone else telling me who I really am. Lol Plus it has Deepak Chopras name on the front so yeah, burn it. I guess for people who are lost who don’t know who they are this could be an invitation to find out a certain path but for me I’ve already found my path. It’s nice to live slow but I don’t want to be my own God or believe any of the stuff in that untethered soul book does not line up with who I am. I love the idea of wandering through the forest and laying underneath waterfalls but I give all the glory to God!
