- In this video, I am starting my pansies and viola seeds for the upcoming spring growing season. Pansies also grow well in the fall and even overwinter in many areas. These little seedlings will go under my grow lights once they germinate but you can also use the winter sowing method or direct sow your seeds. The main thing is to make sure you cover your seeds, they do need darkness to germinate. Thanks for watching!

They are such pretty flowers, can’t wait to see them in your garden 😊
I love my violas a lot of them survived the winter, but i cut them back because they were a bit ratty. I noticed about 1/3 of them had died, but lots of seeds were covering the surface so i hope to grow more this year. :D
I'm in South Philly 7b and always start my seeds mid fall religiously the week of Thanksgiving. I've never had anything less than stellar results.
I throw them directly in the garden, put a bit of compost on top & water it , they both grow very well, without any fuss
Great info! Going to try indoor sowing Pansys and violas this year. I’m zone 6 PA. New subscriber!
Thanks for watching and subbing. I love pansies. Good lucky with yours!
Thanks for the info
Thanks! Good video!
great! 👍
Hi Christa and thank you for the info I was just wondering when to start my Viola I was just watching one of your videos s about the problems your having with cucumber I too had the same problem with mildew its so humid here but I did find one that does well here and stores well and very sweet flavor but can't think of the name off hand I will message you back with the name later today my grandson is running around now I dare not get my seeds out at the moment he is 18 months old and loves to mess with all my things bless his little heart I do remember that I tried several mold resistant varieties last year but the one had much better flavor
Thank you! Yes, I would appreciate knowing the name of the variety when you get the chance. Ha Ha! That is a busy age for little ones, they are into everything.
Hi, really interesting video, do you still need to water them every day? or do you just leave them to germinate, I am new to growing plants from seeds so any tips are really helpful. Thanks.
When seeds are germinating you want to keep the soil lightly moistened.
We have cold temperatures at night but daytime is hot. Any tips, please?
thank you for reloading the last video
No problem! Hope you have a great Friday.
my grandma grew pansies that were a chocolate to deeper brown in color and as big as my childhood hand. That was many years ago (I am now 75). When G/ma moved from her home no one thought to get a start from her pansy bed. Does anyone know where I could find chocolate to deep brown pansy plants or seeds
Do you recommend putting them on a heat mat for germination?
I picked up my 1st viola seed pack at the nursery recently. Placing a heat mat underneath was among the suggestions. I was told to turn on the LOWEST heat setting and only 4 a couple of minutes. The residual heat once it's turned off will b enough & bc the seeds r so small, they don't need much of it.
I covered my seed trays for germination, but the seedlings were all spindly and long when I uncovered them instead of like the ones in your video. What did I do wrong?
How long does it take from sowing seeds to flowering?”pansy”
I put in complete darkness until they sprouted ...i used a box...lol
then transplanted into cells...i got about a 60 percent germinstion rate...best i ever had...didnt use heat...but next time i will...cant wait till next.season..tho i am worried about snails...i haVe them BAD..i suspect snails love them...and rabbits..DO U KNOW???.
MY Johnie jump ups are fab..pansy not so much...so im doing johnies next year big time...and stock...omg...i love stocks.
I am now.having major problems woth scabiosa...i have tried five different packs...cant get sny to germinate no matter whst i do...CSN U DO S VIDEO ON SCABICOA.
I have slugs and snails too, yeah I think they do eat them a bit. Stocks are so beautiful, I tried growing them last year but didn't have much luck, except with those evening scented stocks which are a whole different thing. I have only grown scabiosa one time and it was several years ago. I can't remember if I bought the plants at a nursery or started seeds. Is it possible that they need cold stratification? You might want to look into that.
For the snails, maybe try grinding up some egg shells & place them around plant base. I read snails don't like them & will avoid plants that have this at base of soil.
@@hibiscus-dreams I do this and it works really well 😄
I like watermelon
zafar iqbal .. hoga!
Ok?
The title of the video says: "how to grow.....", but the video never shows how to grow any thing. I am not going to give it a Thumb down, however, there is a good opportunity or improvement here.
Thanks for your input. This is actually the first video in a series I made a couple of years ago. This is episode 1, which is also stated in the title. I might change the title: How To Grow Pansy And Viola Flowers-Seed Sowing-Episode 1, instead of: How To Grow Pansy And Viola Flowers From Seed-Episode 1. Take care.
@@ChristasGarden Thank you for replying. When I first started watching UA-cam videos, I watched one that the title say: How to grow carrots. The video showed some nice carrots but never about how to grow them. I resolved that if my video title says "How to", then I would show the step of how to do whatever I was talking about. Of all the things I successfully grow, Pansies are not one of my successes, so, when I see a video claiming "How to grow pansies" I get interested real quick. Again, thank you fro replying.
