We bought our Aspen in 2007 with the 5.7 Hemi and 11 miles from the dealer. It is now 2022 and the car has 315k miles and still climbing. In all those years and with regular maintenance the only parts that have been replaced are a fuel pump and water pump, both in 2021. It is without a doubt one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Haven’t had any of the problems listed in the video and still drive it everyday. It is very stable on the road and has all the power to pull what I need it to. Has been a joy to own. Hope to go to 500k miles with it!
The problems mentioned in this video are more general problems that plagued the industry as a whole during that era. Not specifically a Chrysler problem. The remote start for example, never worked right back then. It's the type of signal transmitted. Very easy to catch interference, and other times it won't pick it up. This was common in a plethora of vehicles back then. The power tailgate is another. The gears are plastic and strip out. As soon as your support rods get weak and the motor has to take on the brunt of the load opening and closing the lid, it strips the gears very quickly. This was another common problem with many cars of that era. It's when power tailgates started to take off. A/C is a legit concern. Mine has seen two evaporators fail. Although I will admit, the first unit was aftermarket (TYC) and it failed maybe 14 months later. I replaced it with an OEM and so far so good, but I had to yank the dash off twice. 😑 I've also had various leaks here and there that required me to open up the system and repair. The factory alarm is a somewhat common issue. Usually the culprit is the integrated power module that fails. A somewhat pricey part. Outside of that, it's been bulletproof.
@@susanw0921 I bought a 2007 with the 5.7 Hemi and 130k miles almost a year ago. Whoever owned it prior took damn good care of it. Plenty of power and excellent in snow / off road conditions. No complaints so far. 👍
Mine just rolled over to 200k and it still runs really strong, and get 16mpg down the road. It is so nice and with the towing package tows more than many quarter ton pickups. Its a luxury SUV without being ridiculous like the escalade. I've only replaced the water pump and cylinder deactivation solenoid. Smallest by outside measurements but its perfect. Easy to drive in town and park. My dad bought it and i bought it after he passed, he always took it to the dealer for maintenance, he drove it so easy and took such good care and thats so important
The 2nd Gen is my least favorite era of the Dodge Durango. But the Aspen was nicer and better looking than the Durango. It was bad it lived a short life, it was a nice vehicle and a good alternative to the town and country.
I bought my 2007 Chrysler Aspen used with 60K miles on it. It now has over 310K miles. I have not had any major challenges with it. I just recently replace the Fuel pump and the water pump is just now being replaced at 310K in miles. This has been a solid vehicle.
The 4.7/5.7 are bulletproof. Only weak link is the transmission, but as long as you don't get too crazy towing, and regularly service the fluid and filter, it will serve you well.
Back in 2007, it was a toss up for me between the Aspen and the Escalade, both in black. Stunning SUVs. The Aspen presented the same image as the Escalade at half the cost. Simply beautiful without trying too hard. The remaining Aspens still catch my eye to this day.
Aspen suck balls and Escalade is nothing but a overprice suburban or Tahoe or silverado....only diffrence....the grill and all the plastic crap inside....oh yes....and the price for parts....same shit engine of a suburban....but because is Cadillac it cost more.....but...people always fall for that and because the name....it say...oh...look at me.....yep....you driving a suburban with another tag...the aspen....is nothing but another Chrysler/dodge dump factory.....
@@ericrojasvelez8891 I agree, they were both overpriced cheaply made junk with cheap tacky plastic interiors and switchgear, and the fact people bought them and the navigator back then showed just how gullible American car buyers were.
It was born at the wrong time. Car industry was tanking at this time. Never liked the Durango's looks during this time period, but loved the looks on the Aspen, minus the louvred hood. jmo
They might bring the aspen back, There have been talks in the work of Rebadging the Jeep Grand Commander(not available in the states) as a Chrysler Suv
I bought the 2008 Aspen 4.7L on June 2008. I still have Aspen with 138,000 miles on it. Recently I have the little problem with sunroof drainage cause display panel flickering but solved. And Changed 16 spark plugs at 120,000 miles. Air conditioner is still working for 15 years with original without any problem. It is a good and reliable SUV. Thanks for your channel.
Had a 08 Durango that I put 308k miles on it, only reason I still don't have it was because of hurricane Harvey. Got 3500 from my insurance and wish I could of kept it.
The Chrysler Aspen is one of the finest luxury SUV's on the road even in 2020. It is beautiful, quiet running, a very comfortable ride and quite reliable compared to other vehicles in it's class. Mine is a 2008 with the 5.7 and currently has 135,000 plus miles. I plan to keep it as one of my vehicles and perhaps put another 100,000 miles on the odometer. --- Michael Sweeney
I love the aspen I have a 2007 with the hemi and until it hit a 195,000 miles it was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned never needed any repairs would love to find another one with low miles to replace mine
Jeremy Munn I’ve been driving my Aspen for over 10 years with no problems and it pulls our 34’ RV like it isn’t even back there. Even up to Big Bear, CA. About to sell it because I no longer need it but it has been an excellent SUV and had features that were way ahead of their time.
elbeial Daimler cost cutting and piss poor product planning bankrupted Chrysler. The Aspen would’ve been a phenomenal product if given the extra money for better interior materials (like the 09 Ram) and better marketing. Daimler starved Chrysler of product and funding to prop up Mercedes and Smart.
Chrysler had already gone bankrupt once before, even if Daimler had not merged with it the 2008 economy crash would have still made it bankrupt as it even took down GM. Chrysler has always had trouble and they have never been stable.
I still own my 2007 with the 5.7 Hemi. It has 76k on it and has been a fantastic vehicle. I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned, keep it garaged and it looks and runs as good today as it did new. I think it's the perfect size for 3 row SUV's and the fold flat seating was easy to use and provided tons of space. You didn't have to take out the 3rd row like the GM's of that day and then contend with brackets on the floor. I could put more in my Aspen and have it more stable and better organized than any of my friends with Tahoe's or Expeditions.
That's a big undertaking compared to why a single model failed. Plymouth failed because it had become nothing but a "poverty spec" Dodge (to borrow an English term). The PT Cruiser was supposed to have been a Plymouth, but got rebadged a Chrysler due to the impending end of the make. Eagle never had it's own identity. It sold rebadged Renaults (including the Premier), left over AMCs, some Mitsubishis and a Concorde clone. The Chrysler 300M was originally going to be an Eagle, but, like the PT Cruiser, got rebadged as a Chrysler at the last minute.
Plymouth, Oldsmobile, and Mercury were all dead when Dodge Chevy and Ford started offering higher trim levels. I'm surprised certain vehicles from GMC and Buick are still kicking
@@count783 Actually, Plymouth was the entry brand and Dodge the step up. At least initially. By the mid 70's I don't know if there was any difference at all left.
Own a pearl white one with 245k on it and running like a beast yet.... yanked my 1500HD Silverado out of the ditch like it was nothing... really impressed and glad I got it for the wife and kids
carman601 No offense but you do know that highway driving is completely different from city driving, with only a small fraction of wear to the vehicle by comparison, almost any vehicle can survive a road trip as long as it's not too awful ... So if you're talking about amazing as far as comfort and ride then sure
It's hard to be "pretty sure" when given no additional information. One wouldn't be able to know unless they knew the owner and what their usage was. It could have been used for highway commutes only, or not much else if it was new.
This is probably an innocent and well meaning person just trying to state that they spent a lot of time in a car, and it was great. Perhaps they already know about highway vs. city, so maybe a little premature with the ball-busting. Excellent ride and comfort should be a given based on the appointments, and any newer-model car should be able to do a cross-country trip without a problem, but maybe that person is comparing it to some dilapidated piece of junk that they'd been stuck with and they finally got to experience something nice. Is it "amazing" in 2019? Maybe not. But maybe it was amazing for them and their intended purpose.
I bought a 2007 Aspen with a 345 hemi in 2017 that had 189k miles on it. I indeed have issues with the A/C but outside of that, the thing is a tank. I got caught in a tropical storm driving home from work a telephone pole fell in the road in front of me. I had no time to stop without crashing so I just drove the Aspen right over/throught it. It went over it with no problem at all and saved my life or my wallet at least, lol. I use it as my inclement weather mobile and she hasn't let me down yet. Great vehicle. It's definitely not a racer but it will surprise you sometimes. And as far as trims go, mine is a limited with J Package which identifies it as having 4 independent seats in the rear, heated seats in the second row, the VES (Video Entertainment System), 20" wheels, 5.7 HEMI, and running boards for 2007.
I have a 2007 Aspen that we got in 09 and I'm still driving it with almost 200k miles on it. Even though my husband has a Corvette and we recently got a 2019 RAM truck, I usually chose to take the Aspen when all are home. I drive up to 200 miles a day for my job and this is my work vehicle since it's roomy enough to haul my equipment and I live in central Illinois (sad, I know) where the winter driving conditions are miserable. I affectionately call her my "She-Beast" because my Aspen will get through anything! It's sure-footed on snow and ice, I've never gotten stuck ever. The Hemi allows me to pass other drivers quickly and safely. It even withstood being parked outside during a tornado without so much as a scratch and when I was surrounded by downed trees and branches yet absolutely needed to get out, I just drove over them without so much as a hiccup. It's a shame they didn't make more of these. The only downside is the poor gas mileage, which at best on the highway and with cruise control on, is about 19 mpg. Still I expect that for a heavy SUV. Over the years I've had to do basic maintenance of course and have replaced a few minor things regarding emission control and there have been some random computer codes pop up. The only downside to the interior is that every single Aspen will lose the plastic cover that goes over where the driver and passenger seat belts begin at the side of the seats. Nothing will keep those things on there except maybe Crazy Glue. The leather seats will break down and crack on the outside edge of the frequently used drivers seat; inevitable over time. But I still find it to be extremely comfortable. I've had many people ask me if I want to sell it since we've kept it in great condition and there's not a spot of rust on it but there's no way I'd sell. I tell everyone I'll drive it til she drops. My husbands drives it instead of his Vette on bad winter weather days so it's a good back up for him when I'm not driving it. If you can find one of these used, snatch it up. It's been one of the best vehicles I"ve ever owned, out of at least 20 in my lifetime.
I think the Chrysler Pacifica looked pretty good back in the day especially with the nice 20” rims, I remember it was one of the first cars to display the navigation screen in the tachometer, like an actual digital screen rather than just directions, it had a lot of Mercedes-Benz Diamler parts
The Aspen was way better looking than the Durango. This guy in our neighborhood bought his Aspen brand new and still has it. He completely black it out and I'm like, I wish I had one lol
FYI the body was completely different than a 04-06 Durango. When the Durango was refreshed in 2007, there were more similarities, but still a different stamping. Pay attention to the rear quarters. Also, this platform was actually unibody-on-frame. Extremely tight body mounted on the frame, and WAY better fit and finish than GM/fords of the day. There is more details about these as well...
Uhhhh I know this comment is old but... no? It's definitely a body on frame, and uses torsion bar front suspension. It also shares almost everything with the second generation Dodge Durango.
I own an 07 with the 5.7 hemi. Have not had any major problems. I often get asked if I would sell it. Nope. People seem to like this vehicle now. I know I am very happy with mine.
My wife inherited her mother's 2007 Limited 5.7 4x4 Aspen. It was a demo car with 5k miles on it when her mother got. It now has 98,000 miles on it. Only issues was the sun roof leaking through the right windshield post, but only when it went through the express car wash. Had to recharge the AC. The suspension is not the greatest, but it still drives like a champ. We towed our 20 ft. Bayliner cuddy cabin with it to Lake Havasu and it did fine. We will keep it as long as we can!!
Chrysler really dropped the ball on the Aspen. Could have been competitive with some time and effort. They can do it. Just look at the Pacifica and the effort put in.
@@JDMHaze I was referring to how they took the Pacifica name, associated with a less than stellar early crossover to make it a state of the art minivan. They can do this magic with the 300, Aspen, and Imperial, revamping themselves into a specialty near luxury brand with a careful blend of innovation and character. They have plenty of concept designs to fall back on. Why not use them.
Garic Grant Perhaps, but Chrysler is no good at badge engineering , They made their own bed by years of miss management, from retarded designs, and alcoholic factory workers, there were under cover new's investigations done multiple times and nothing has changed.. And I really like some of their products but they ruined them, their infotainment system is the best in the business, and a much better than what I have in my Toyota Avalon, and better than what I had in my Infiniti Q 50
I own both a 2007 Aspen and 2007 Denali XL. We have loved our Aspen. For a Chrysler it has been surprisingly reliable and gotten us many places around the country. The Denali has more features and more power overall, but we have no complaints about the Aspen.
Honestly, it seems like the perfect time for a refresh of the Aspen. The SUV market is hot, Chrysler has been gaining in trustworthiness and popularity with their new engine offerings and transmissions that were not available in 07- 09, the Pacifica is selling like crazy and quite frankly for Dodge / Chrysler to stay relevant they really NEED another couple of offerings in the fullsize / midsize SUV market. Bring back the ASPEN!!!
I have an 07 Aspen and I love it! I have no issues with my truck. All of the issues he claims were a reason why the truck got discontinued besides the Newark plant closing aren't necessarily true. I drove for lyft for a short amount of time and damn near everyone I picked up complimented me on my Aspen. They couldn't believe how roomy it was. They all were like " Omg, this truck is huge. Not only that, it's clean and nice looking!" The only hang up I have about this truck is the rear storage, well there lack of, lol. Not much room to put normal trunk stuff like jumper cables and car maintenance items and or groceries.
I found a 2009 hemi-HYBRID at a local dealership. The hybrid battery was depleted and the dealership was going to junk it. I bought it for $1000, then paid $280 to have it towed home. I reconditioned the 40 cell hybrid battery, one cell at a time. This cost me time, but no money, except buying a special charger for $65. Once the hybrid battery was reconditioned, the hybrid dash light went off, and the hemi fired right up. I changed the oil, and oil & air filters, and now use it for a daily driver. For the $1400 investment, I don't care about the plastic interior. I loaded the hard drive full of tunes (the 9 speaker Alpine stereo, including subwoofer, rocks!) and cruise around the neighborhood on battery, engine off at stoplights. It's fascinating, even with the engine off, the heat, air conditioning, and power steering all work normally because of the hybrid system. When towing, or on freeway on-ramps the rush of the hemi is exhilarating, and addicting. There's plenty of power! I've been on two multi-state road trips and had no problems. It drives like a dream! The ac inverter, back-up sensors, power liftgate, front and back heat/ac, sirius xm, navigation system, memory seats/pedals/mirrors, dual front climate control, and so much more, are really convenient! But the thing I like best is that I can set the cruise control on 70 mph, and watch it go into four cylinder mode. It will stay there (rarely go to 8 cylinders) because the hybrid system kicks in and gives it boost from the battery on uphill sections. Stop and go, town, highway, combined I'm still averaging nearly 22 mpg. It looks good, it's a rare blue color (most are a lemon-white) it drives good, it's got boatloads of room, even the third row seat folds down - you don't have to take it out like you do on my suburban - it's convenient, it's all wheel drive, it has gobs of power, yet it gets nearly 22 mpg combined. Best vehicle I've ever owned!!!
We loved our Aspen. Absolutely no problems. While you may be correct in your assessment I think you overlooked a huge point in the reason for its cancellation. We purchased our 2008 Aspen from Enterprise Car Sales with 17,000 miles on it in the fall of 2008. It was at a time when gasoline was at its highest nearing four dollars a gallon in the Tulsa area. No one was renting big vehicles and no one buying them. Enterprise was selling off its big-engined vehicles. For a vehicle that was new at 36G dollars, we paid 17.9G in the same year it was manufactured. We took the chance that fuel prices would decrease. We experienced none of the problems you describe. In fact we thought it was the best built vehicle we ever owned. Our only regret is buying a rear wheel drive instead of an all wheel drive model. The following summer we drove it vacationing. Durango, Grand Canyon, the Mexico border. It never failed us and when Arizona was 117 at 11pm, we were cool and comfortable. I would suggest you rethink your reasons for its failure as 2008 was the year that seemed everyone was dumping their big SUVs. But I love your video.
One other thing. In 2011, we traded it back to Enterprise Car Sales for a new vehicle. They gave us 18.2G...three years later with almost 60G miles on it. Gas prices came way down.
I bought my 2008 used , have had it over 6 years, zero problems to speak of other than brakes etc., and i love it. It is so perfect for me, I do not plan to ever buy another vehicle. Love the Hemi.
@@lovellmills7959I typically never recommend chrysler products. My father's aspen is mechanically ok but because the check engine light is always on for something different I can't say it's a reliable car. If you don't have someone to fix it for you or you can't do it yourself, be prepared to spend a lot of money for diagnostics and labor
It would be cool if they bring it back on the current gen dodge Durango platform. Only if they make a more luxurious interior. And make a set version of it.
I huge mopar fan and I love all things mopar but I feel like you have so much more potential! Ever tried doing the same style of video for other manufacturers?
I am considering lots of things for UA-cam but not sure where to go with it haha! I love Mopar and feel like I’m more specialized/knowledgeable about it, especially Dodge/Chrysler because I’ve been doing this for a few years now focusing on those brands. I would definitely explore other manufacturers or open it up more but skeptical about doing it on my main mopar channel, might open a 2nd channel for stuff like that/other things but honestly not sure right now! I’m going to have a lot more time for UA-cam after school finishes in August so at that point I’ll see what’s up
@@MarspeedCars well whatever you do, give it the Same attention to detail and I'm sure itll thrive. Especially here soon with the muscle car wars going on, definitely alot of cars in the same segment going neck and neck GT500 i feel will spark it. Camaro will try and beat it on a track and challenger will try and beat it on the drag strip. 2020 is going to be one big show down!
I too would recommend doing videos on Eagle and Plymouth like the other commenter suggested, but would also add Desoto and Imperial (1955-1983) to that list. Also, the Jeep Commander and the Chrysler Delta (sold in the UK as a Chrysler and a Lancia in the rest of Europe) would be interesting.
i bought my aspen in '08 as a leftover '07..besides routine maintenance the only money i've put into mine is a water pump and alternator...not too bad for 257,000 miles.i got a rare one with no reliability issues whatsoever.
I’ve got a 2008 Aspen and I love it. It’s got 188k miles on it now and I’ve never had the first issue with it. I drive it almost daily and with the 5.7 Hemi I can pull my pontoon boat with no issues. Where I live has a lot of mountainous roads and I have no problem pulling those hills even with a loaded trailer behind it. The Hemi engine has more than enough power and torque to go anywhere I want. Plus with it being a 4x4 it will go anywhere I want to travel. In all honesty it’s one of the best SUV’s I’ve ever owned. Mine has all the bells and whistles of any luxury vehicle and if it were still in production I’d buy another one.
I have an aspen limited package and despite me being a 17 year old driving a “minivan” I absolutely love it. The handling is great. The space is great. The speed is great. It’s just very bad on gas
Thanks for this video. I just bought a 2007 Chrysler Aspen, 5.7L Hemi 2WD. My boat and trailer top off at about 4,900 lbs and I was towing it with a 1995 Chevy Astro 4.3 Vortec and 5,000 lb tow range. I bought the aspen because I could not find a 1/2 ton van. An SUV is the next best thin to a van and it has great tow range.
I actually own a 2008 Aspen, black, V8 5.7 Hemi (has all the add ons) I love everything about this suv. I have bought numerous other vehicles since owning this one, but I just can’t seem to part with her. I still to this day get comments from people admiring my Aspen. I work at a mechanic shop and drive all types of vehicles from luxury to plan janes, and my Aspen rides just as good if not better and looks better than most. Never short on power either! 😁 one of my favorite vehicles of all time.
probably the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned ,i have 185000 miles and it still turns heads. i trust my aspen to take me anywhere in the country.
i got a leftover at the end of 2008 and still have it today. I have been extremely happy with the vehicle. Power from the HEMI is fantastic, all wheel drive and traction control works great. I now have 175000 miles on it and am replacing the shocks this weekend. I have replaced the fuel pump (4 months ago), the rack and pinion (4 months ago), alternator twice, oil pressure sensor, tires, brakes (2 front drivers side calipers) and that's it. in my opinion not bad for a 12 year old vehicle. Great room inside the vehicle for long trips (used a hitch-haul for the luggage) so 5 passengers could use all 3 rows. Just used it to tow my son's jeep up to a shop which is about a 7000 lb trailer + jeep load and it pulled it like a champ. I change the oil every 5000 miles. I did disconnect the electronics to the transfer case due to a bad transfer case shift motor, which means I am stuck in all wheel drive (all i really need), but I do have the new transfer case shift motor that I have to install. I would love to see chrysler come out with another truck based SUV...side note, my other truck is a 1987 Dodge Ramcharger...
I have known that the Durango / Aspen had a hybrid model for years didn't last long cuz they introduced it in 2009 when nobody was buying SUVs cuz we were in the middle of a financial crisis
I love mine! It has 130000 and I have never felt the vibrations described or the ac issue, the only problem is a belt broke which was a cheap fix lol I guess it may not have been popular here but has sold well enough in other countries that that are to try again! they are bringing it back!!
I think the 2011+ the Durango bridge that gap And they learned their lesson, and the lesson is instead of making a dressed Durango... just MAKE A NICE DURANGO And you can cover both market/buyers, because now it being based on the Mercedes platform it is just terrific just like that grand Cherokee
There's no point because people don't want Chryslers. They all want Jeeps or Dodges. I think they should just get rid of the Chrysler brand completely, kill the 300, and rebadge the Pacifica as a Dodge.
If they released the Aspen back in 2003-2005 period during the peak of the mid size and full size SUV popularity it would have been successful, It could have competed against the Full size luxury suvs like the Navigator, Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Lexus LX, GX and Infiniti QX56
Do not overheat it or run low on water. Soon after it will drop a valve seat and destroy the entire engine. Just search 5.7 HEMI valve seat. Mine did it .. I loved my rig until this .
The only drawback of the 5.7 L Hemi motor is the aluminum valve seats. If the motor overheats, due to low coolant, the valve seats are the weak link. Just always make sure coolant and temperatures are where they should be. I own an '07 Aspen with Hemi motor and 136k miles on it and couldn't be happier. On road, or even off road, this vehicle will go anywhere with it's 4 WD with locking differentials.
Perhaps we just got lucky. Our 2008 Aspen was quiet comfortable had lots of power. Often people thought I was driving a Cadillac Escalade. My daughters grew up in the car We could take all their friends It was a very nice experience. The only problem we had with it was with fuel system. We will get it check engine light from the EVAP system. It never affected the performance. Chrysler covered in under warranty of course and it was taken care.
GOT CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN OF 2008-2009 !!! NOBODY BOUGHT VEHICLES,EVEN TRUCKS DROPPED IN SALES.. HIGH GAS PRICES,EXPENSIVE CHRYSLER AND DOWNTURN,PEOPLE DIDNT BUY CARS THEN !!!
Exactly. I have no clue why Chrysler was so afraid to bring out a luxury SUV considering how popular the Escalade/Navigator was in the early-2000's... If Chrysler had brought the Aspen out in 2004 when the 2nd gen. Durango came out then it's fate would have been different.
@@Stressless2023 I agree, it would have been a big competitor to the Navigator, Escalade, Yukon Denali, Lexus LX, GX and Infiniti QX56 since full-size luxury suvs were big at the time.
You can feel the confidence in this truck like no other - storms - Blizzards u name it the beast conquers all- 5.7!signatue series with the 3:92 rear - can’t praise this Aspen enough- Just please replace the shocks with Bilstiens that is incredibly important
I've owned my 2007 Aspen for 3 years now and besides a new battery, replacing all wheel pressure sensors(were stock 2007) and an #7MDS sensor failing, I have had some wonky problems with some of the electronic subsystems in it, heated seats error pulling to much amperage (both seats), radio amplifier and channel faults, Rear lift gate to far fault, rear ac control(can't remember exact wording on that one) and a few others. I ended up getting a 320amp Alternator from Mechman to replace the stock 160amp and built a fuse panel in the engine compartment to take some subsystems off the computer(to clear the faults). And to support new subwoofer behind 3rd row. But I love the Aspen! Ride is nice and it's been a very nice machine to me:).
I took my original owner 2008 to 200,000 miles over 10 years. Replaced alternator and blend air door actuators. Drive train was flawless. Interior was Daimler Spartan. Excellent ownership experience.
I loved these! I almost forked out or financed rather one of these back in the day. It was about $35k. Loaded and the hemi kicked ass. But hydroplaned whew. The original Tires had to be swapped immediately for safety reasons. Never bought one. But I look at the auctions weekly for one.
Joe Neri Yes, I never understood why the commander left ? everyone I knew who had one loved it, I actually went to the 2005 auto show when it first came out and they were driving people around that course
The issues would have been worked out but the automotive crash in 2009 was the BIG reason for the early demise. Not to mention the Dodge Magnum also got caught up in the 2008/2009 crash. And Chrysler had and still has a habit of putting new model into the market place and then forgetting them !
I have a 2007 with the Hemi and i love the vehicle. It has 207k miles on it and still running strong. Had to replace the MDS solenoids (myself, that painful) and Timing Chain (Garage). The Aspen still has a lot of pull and I'm not planning on getting rid of it until it dies which hopefully is not time soon.
Did changing the solenoid fix the issue permanently? I heard that when it failed it would also damage the PCM and if you just changed the solenoid the damaged PCM would just destroy the new one (voltage issue).
My 2007 signature series has an alpine system that flat out rocks. Although it just recently has problems. It's seats comfortable as any car I've owned. Worst thing is the gas mileage. But I love it and am having a hard time deciding to let it go
I still own one, a 2008 bought in 2017, and it recently surpassed 300,000 miles. I love the luxury look and the extra legroom, being a tall woman. It looks impressive, and one of my friends said she had thought it was an Escalade! 😊 I bought it for $4600. The speakers sound great, and I love the seat heater and the fancy interior, compared to a rough looking Durango. I wondered how many that were made. Thank you for making this video and answering that. Just about 22,000 of the same year makes this rare to a degree, so I think I might keep it and restore it as needed, and this one I might be driving for always after it becomes an antique!
4 years late to the video, but wanted to say that I am currently driving a 2009 5.7/V8 Hemi Aspen and I LOVE IT! With regular maintenance and not driving the wheels off, I still only have 110K on it and hope to still be driving it many years from now. It's just my husband and I, so we have plenty of room and it looks great. I love this ride!
I really liked the Chrysler Aspen and thought it looked beautiful outside and inside. I hope Chrysler will bring back a 7-seater Full-size SUV. I saw some concept pictures of a Chrysler SUV and it looked amazing. I hope Chrysler will come back with an outstanding design language. As they did in the early 2000’s.
It was my incredibly good fortune to find my 2007 Aspen in 2014. A wonderful man was getting his wife a new Escalade and i bought her Aspen. It is the LTD with a 5.7L Hemi and it was absolutely beautiful then and still is. I'm very grateful to have owned such an amazing all around versatile 7 seater beauty !!! Great SUV !!! Black on clamshell off white interior.

I'd really like too see a video on the Chrysler Crossfire, especially covering the SRT6 topic and why that is the only SRT6 that has ever been produced. Love the videos, Marspeed, keep up the great work!
I love this channel because I can't remember how many fatal flaws Dodge / Jeep / Chrysler have suffered from an I need a good laugh with everything going on these days. THANK YOU!!!
We have 2 Aspens ( a 4.7 and a 5.7) & a 2004 Durango ( 5.7 ) Our biggest issue is with the paint getting sunburned and clear coat failing Aspen is a smoother ride, and the Durango seems beefier in the suspension I sometimes tow My 5,500 lb Kubota on a 2,000 lb trailer. It does pull it fairly well, but the rear squats from the tongue weight Maintenance; Water pumps, alternator, and an in tank fuel pump on the Durango plus the A/C has failed Over All We are going to look at another Aspen this week
I bought my wife a 2007 Aspen with the 5.7 Hemi. I’ve replaced 1 alternator, 1 A/C compressor, valve cover seals an spark plugs. That is all. I haven’t even had to replace headlight bulbs yet. She still drives it and loves it after 3 kids.
I had a 2006 Dodge Durango with the 5.7 Hemi. Always wanted the Aspen cause I loved that Durango. Would still buy a used 09' if I could find one in excellent condition. The only thing with the Hemi is you are supposed to only use mid grade gas as a minimum, and it sucked gas, but damn did it have power. I have a truck right now that I'm not happy with, but one of the used vehicles that is still an option if I can find a fully loaded one for the right price is a Chrysler Aspen. Came across some lately, but are usually beat up on the interior, or too high of price. The 3rd row seat is what sells it to me but cant afford a new Durango, dont want a base model one, and the Aspen would meet my needs. Also looks better than its Durango counterpart from that time.
Have a 2007 4×4 5.7 hemi ... My daily driver still rolling with 200,000 miles . Excellent vehicle still like the look strong 4x4 ! Live this vehicle ! May try and buy another used one.
Behind for it's time, if they released it in 2003-2005, it would have been a hit in the luxury suv market competing against the Navigators, Escalades, GMC Denalis, Lexus LX and Gx and the Infiniti QX56
@@hemi5.7villain Yeah, every time I see a clean Aspen I think that it would be cool to own one. I couldn't believe that the Aspen wheel fit my truck. I cut the old cover off, used it as a pattern and recovered it. Get lots of compliments on how nice it looks.
@@Fony_turgeson yeah well then they did their job, vehicles are on the same exact chassis and sub body. The interior is a lot nicer and some of the body panels like the grill are different, fundamentally they're the same vehicle just like in this video with the Chryslers ,and yeah they did a better job than Chrysler did.. they usually do. yukon denali gmc is also the same vehicle.... this is pretty common in the Auto industry, last full size Chevy Caprice models were very much similar to the last Cadillac Fleetwood models under the skin. Same with Ford Crown Victoria being the same vehicle Under the Skin as the Lincoln Town Car and many other examples I could give , more than you might even believe considering you think that the idea is LMFAO
My cousin bought a full sized Jeep SUV, it kinda looks like a large Dodge Nitro, can't remember the model name though....it was only manufactured for a few years, but she put a lift kit on it, dual exhaust, cold air intake, and she loves it, says it does great in the snow up in Idaho....it'd be cool to see an episode on that rig....
I have a 2007. It just turned 131K miles. I just had the EVAP problem which cost quite a bit to fix and I also have the problem with the tailgate/rear backup sensors. Other than that, it's been pretty reliable and offers tons of space with great styling to match! FCA is reportedly bringing a more luxurious version back for the 2021/2022 model year.
Love my 2007 Aspen. Only 44,000 on her. Don't forget that the dip in sales was due to gas pricing. You need to put 89 octane in it. Which was close to $4.79 a gallon in 08-09 on Long Island. I was spending close to $160 a week in gas. She really only averages 10.8 mpg around town. But, I do get 22.3 mpg on the highway. Great truck!!
I have a 2008 w 226,000+ miles, love it and never want to replace it!
My 2008 with 109k miles ❤
Mine just rolled over to 200k and it still runs really strong, and get 16mpg down the road. It is so nice and with the towing package tows more than many quarter ton pickups. Its a luxury SUV without being ridiculous like the escalade. I've only replaced the water pump and cylinder deactivation solenoid. Smallest by outside measurements but its perfect. Easy to drive in town and park. My dad bought it and i bought it after he passed, he always took it to the dealer for maintenance, he drove it so easy and took such good care and thats so important
It Looked 100% Better Than The Durango Of That Era
Which was 100% better than the dodge nitro
I cannot agree more, lol!. I don't know who was in charge of designing that travesty but hopefully they are out of the auto industry completely!
The 2nd Gen is my least favorite era of the Dodge Durango. But the Aspen was nicer and better looking than the Durango. It was bad it lived a short life, it was a nice vehicle and a good alternative to the town and country.
lotusjag garage the nitro is so damn ugly
Elijah Torres they look almost identical tf are y’all on? 😂 or at least like siblings
Which one did you end up going with?
indeed the aspen still are looking stunning till this day
Mine too
Aspen suck balls and Escalade is nothing but a overprice suburban or Tahoe or silverado....only diffrence....the grill and all the plastic crap inside....oh yes....and the price for parts....same shit engine of a suburban....but because is Cadillac it cost more.....but...people always fall for that and because the name....it say...oh...look at me.....yep....you driving a suburban with another tag...the aspen....is nothing but another Chrysler/dodge dump factory.....
@@ericrojasvelez8891 I agree, they were both overpriced cheaply made junk with cheap tacky plastic interiors and switchgear, and the fact people bought them and the navigator back then showed just how gullible American car buyers were.
Chrysler should bring this back on an all new platform. If it was executed correctly, it would be a great competitor to the Escalade and Navigator.
Man, I can't agree with you more. To me they gave up too soon on the Aspen without improving it.

I still own my 2007 with the 5.7 Hemi. It has 76k on it and has been a fantastic vehicle. Do a video on Eagle and the Death of Plymouth 1928-2001

@@JDMHaze No offense, but I'm pretty sure his father drove the car in the fucking city too

Also, this platform was actually unibody-on-frame. Extremely tight body mounted on the frame, and WAY better fit and finish than GM/fords of the day. There is more details about these as well...

Garic Grant which pacifica you referring to !!???? lol
@@JDMHaze I was referring to how they took the Pacifica name, associated with a less than stellar early crossover to make it a state of the art minivan.

I owned this vehicle it was a fantastic SUV 🚙... the right amount of luxury, and the reliability was actually good.
Oh. For reference, our Aspen had the 5.7 Liter Hemi. Great Engine.

I'd say do the '81-'83 Imperial. Lots of issues with that car, which was unfortunate, given its great looks.
I bought my 2008 Aspen new and had only a water pump go bad during the 230,000 miles I put on it. My particular vehicle proved to be stellar.
i bought my aspen in '08 as a leftover '07..besides routine maintenance the only money i've put into mine is a water pump and alternator...not too bad for 257,000 miles.i got a rare one with no reliability issues whatsoever.
I own a 09 it took a min for me to warm up to it but I absolutely love it.
Andrees Chapman I own
An 09 too
You have any major problems with it so far?
@@gannonadkisson6297 hi thinking of getting the last model the 09 any major issues?
I’ll buy another one to!
I have an aspen limited package and despite me being a 17 year old driving a “minivan” I absolutely love it. The handling is great. The space is great. The speed is great. It’s just very bad on gas
Yes it is just picked me up an Aspen the other day and man
@@PickleWarTooth Congrats! I gave mine up to my dad but I still see it every now and then

Is the minivan in the room with us? this ain't no van, it's a truck based SUV...
Have a 2008 and I love it. It's pretty quick has plenty of power the options are really good over 200k and no problems or issues 5 stars
I have a 5.7 hemi, a Great vehicle.
Do the Dodge Nitro. That was a silly SUV.
Seed_drill Wanna talk about Silly? What do you prefer dude, a Nitro or a Jeep Compass? The Nitro was masculine and looked the part unlike the Compass.
Miami SWL Radio the Nitro was nothing more than a rebadged Liberty and the Liberty was never a masculine car
Look at the r\t nitro.....has a 5.7 hemi in it
@@joeyburnes25 Nope. The R/T had a 4.0 liter V6. They just looked too cheap and plasticy. Like a child's toy made into a life sized truck.
Yea ur right I seen a video with engine swap
I have a 2008, what does mean when you try to accelerate, you have to press down on the gas pedal pretty hard to get going and the motor sounds loud
probably the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned ,i have 185000 miles and it still turns heads. i trust my aspen to take me anywhere in the country.
i got a leftover at the end of 2008 and still have it today.
I didn't know the Aspen had a hybrid option. Thanks for the info.
Droid King a few months ago I had seen the hybrid version of the Durango i found that interesting
The Hybrid option is getting rather rare from what I know.
I have known that the Durango / Aspen had a hybrid model for years didn't last long cuz they introduced it in 2009 when nobody was buying SUVs cuz we were in the middle of a financial crisis
Also they're based of the BMW X5 hybrid of the time so it was pretty much thought out from the start
@@Blackout_1692 No we Werent,,, Didnt you hear John McCain tell Obama "Our Economy is SOUND" 2 days After Lehman Bros. Collapsed😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love mine! It has 130000 and I have never felt the vibrations described or the ac issue, the only problem is a belt broke which was a cheap fix lol I guess it may not have been popular here but has sold well enough in other countries that that are to try again! they are bringing it back!!
I think Chrysler put this out for sale to early in that time, It would be a life saver for FCA do to the fact Chrysler only has 2 cars.
yep i agree buddy 😀
I think the 2011+ the Durango bridge that gap And they learned their lesson, and the lesson is instead of making a dressed Durango... just MAKE A NICE DURANGO And you can cover both market/buyers, because now it being based on the Mercedes platform it is just terrific just like that grand Cherokee
There's no point because people don't want Chryslers. They all want Jeeps or Dodges. I think they should just get rid of the Chrysler brand completely, kill the 300, and rebadge the Pacifica as a Dodge.
Vtgac22 I should've killed Chrysler in 2003 after the PT cruiser,, 300 was actually a success but at this point it's not needed anymore
That thing is just so beautiful as it is, it was just terrible timing, people were sleeping on the Aspen's potential as an American SUV!
I own a 2007 and couldn't be happier!
Do not overheat it or run low on water. Soon after it will drop a valve seat and destroy the entire engine. Just search 5.7 HEMI valve seat. Mine did it .. I loved my rig until this .
@@raymieh8905 thank you very much man I appreciate it
The only drawback of the 5.7 L Hemi motor is the aluminum valve seats.
@@Stressless2023 Exactly, and it looked a little dated for a 2007 introduction.
You can feel the confidence in this truck like no other - storms - Blizzards u name it the beast conquers all- 5.7!signatue series with the 3:92 rear - can’t praise this Aspen enough- Just please replace the shocks with Bilstiens that is incredibly important
I don’t know what it is about the Aspen, but I have a HUGE soft spot for it, and in my opinion, it’s the most badass SUV Dodge/Chrysler has.
What about the Durango srt or the soon to be durango redeye
Mr Scowl Face nah this is way more BA imo
Do you still have it
I loved these! I almost forked out or financed rather one of these back in the day. It was about $35k. Loaded and the hemi kicked ass. But hydroplaned whew. The original Tires had to be swapped immediately for safety reasons. Never bought one. But I look at the auctions weekly for one.
I have a 2007 I’m selling
11yrs and still going strong. A good dependable vehicle.
Do the dodge magnum and the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica and the Dodge Caliber and the dodge intrepid and the Jeep Patriot
👍🏻
ok ...🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑 🗑 🗑 lol
He should also do one on the Dodge Dakota, and the Jeep Commander.
Joe Neri Yes, I never understood why the commander left ? everyone I knew who had one loved it, I actually went to the 2005 auto show when it first came out and they were driving people around that course
YES the Pacifica before it was that minivan we know today
I own a Durango complete with the big bad Hemi! And...I love it.
The issues would have been worked out but the automotive crash in 2009 was the BIG reason for the early demise. Not to mention the Dodge Magnum also got caught up in the 2008/2009 crash. And Chrysler had and still has a habit of putting new model into the market place and then forgetting them !
Bingo!
But I love it and am having a hard time deciding to let it go
Dakota would make a good video
ZROSTARS agreed.
I own 3 of them. A 97 and 2 04’s. Rusty but still going!
The Dakota may be returning on the Ram platform.
Yes, what the hell has happened to that truck? It looked much better as the previous rounded off Dodge Durango style
My Favorite car I have owned. Drives in mountain deep snow like a champ. I have not had any of the stated issues, currently 186,000 miles
Nice! My ‘07 is at 164,000 miles and running like a champ!
Jeep Grand Wagoneer is coming.

My wife owns a (2007-5.7 hemi-limited edition). 200,993 miles.
There was also an optional upgrade to get navy blue interior.
Daniel Corcoran I bought on red on blue
Red exterior and blue interior?.....probably explains why you bought an Aspen to begin with lmfao
Garrett Smith it’s like a bronze red had it new the seat inserts are blue it looks really good I bought it because it was for my wife I drive a GMC Sierra
i have a 2008 limited 5.7 4x4 and i love it i installed a performance program and i have 93000 miles on it have had minimal problems non that you mentioned i tow an 8000 lb. boat twice a year with no problems my big mistake was not to take it back for the 10 year safety check so i lost my life time drive train warantee i maintane my truck myself great video thank you.

I drove one across Europe recently and I was impressed. That is super decent car.
I'd really like too see a video on the Chrysler Crossfire, especially covering the SRT6 topic and why that is the only SRT6 that has ever been produced. Love the videos, Marspeed, keep up the great work!
The Crossfire would have been better if it actually had some good performance other than maybe straight line speed.

I love this channel because I can't remember how many fatal flaws Dodge / Jeep / Chrysler have suffered from an I need a good laugh with everything going on these days. THANK YOU!!!
We have 2 Aspens ( a 4.7 and a 5.7) & a 2004 Durango ( 5.7 )
Our biggest issue is with the paint getting sunburned and clear coat failing
Aspen is a smoother ride, and the Durango seems beefier in the suspension
I sometimes tow My 5,500 lb Kubota on a 2,000 lb trailer.
It does pull it fairly well, but the rear squats from the tongue weight
Maintenance; Water pumps, alternator, and an in tank fuel pump on the Durango plus the A/C has failed
Over All We are going to look at another Aspen this week
I bought my wife a 2007 Aspen with the 5.7 Hemi. I’ve replaced 1 alternator, 1 A/C compressor, valve cover seals an spark plugs. That is all. I haven’t even had to replace headlight bulbs yet. She still drives it and loves it after 3 kids.
My wife also has a (2007) with 200,993 miles, nice truck!
I love my aspen mine has the 5.7 264000 miles on it and still running great
I actually prefer the look of the Aspen over the Durango for this generation. 😀
Me too, I realky like my 08. One thing I did was put 20" rims on from a newer 1500 Ram truck. Changes the look, looks way newer than most 08s
had one as a kid, my parents traded in but went back a week later to rebuy it. We all loved it that much
wow this video came out and I didn't remember ever seeing one of those and a few hours later I see one in a parking lot lol it looks nice
Have a 2007 4×4 5.7 hemi ... My daily driver still rolling with 200,000 miles . Excellent vehicle still like the look strong 4x4 ! Live this vehicle ! May try and buy another used one.
I always thought it was lovely and elegant. Perhaps it was ahead of its time. Plus, Hemi.
Behind for it's time, if they released it in 2003-2005, it would have been a hit in the luxury suv market competing against the Navigators, Escalades, GMC Denalis, Lexus LX and Gx and the Infiniti QX56
I put an Aspen steering wheel in my 2007 Dodge Ram, love the wood and leather. Looks great and is comfortable.
Your Love My Aspen getting some work done this week on it
@@hemi5.7villain Yeah, every time I see a clean Aspen I think that it would be cool to own one. I couldn't believe that the Aspen wheel fit my truck. I cut the old cover off, used it as a pattern and recovered it. Get lots of compliments on how nice it looks.

I put 87 octane in mine. Is that good or bad?
