You also forgot to mention that Howie's Achilles rupture forced the nats to prematurely call up a 19 year old kid who had played a whopping 8 games above A ball named Juan Soto in May 2018.

Premature is a bit of a stretch because he was lighting up minor league ball.

@@Wardawg- He had only played 50 games at single A as well. He would not have been called up if Robles wasn't injured that season even given the fact he was tearing single A up. At the time Robles was regarded higher than him and Soto's eta was generally thought to be about 2020.

@@mattbalfe2983 no 🤣 robles was always a bad hitter. The injury just was a slot to bring someone up. You think that they'd jump him for no reason? He already was hitting 300 at the AA level no need to hit AAA. Because he was a better risk than anyone the Nats had at AAA. Stop it 🤣 he even told the coach i won't be here long.

Man, what can I say... I've grown up with baseball but not like most who have baseball as a national sport so I only ever got to watch highlight shows as a kid on cable TV with ESPN when I was visiting my uncle (because he had cable TV) and then later on when I moved to the UK in the early 2000s there was practically no coverage until many years later. Thank the UA-cam Algorithm gods for sending me your way because I watched the highlights of Kendrick's GS and wondered why I hadn't heard of him before. You've given me a history lesson I've been dying to hear about for years. What an underdog, what a character and stoicism on his part to keep persevering. Having recently got back into the game after a 22 year hiatus I broke my shoulder sliding into 3rd and my only fix is UA-cam videos and highlights. This has given me new vigour to keep going once I'm healed. 38 years young playing a kid's game. Can't get much better than that. Thank you. You've earned my sub. Onwards and upwards for you and your channel!

Andrew Heaney, Corey Seager cameos, and Max Scherzer being the starting pitcher of that game 7 against the Astros, the first time in history in any sport where the home team lost every game of a 7 game series. The only other time it's happen being the '23 ALCS, also with the Astros being the losing team, and also with Mad Max starting for the winning team. I'm a Ranger fan. I watched all the 2019 postseason games and adopted the Nats as my postseason team for the year after the Soto RBI in the WC game. When Kendrick hit that GS against LAD I was completely geeked. I re-wound and watched it probably 50 times. Just stunning. Naturally as someone who hates the Astros, I completely lost my S when he hit the 2 run HR in Game 7 of the WS. It wasn't Adrian Beltre hitting a walkoff home run in the WS, but I yelled just as loud when Kendrick's ball clanged off the foul pole. It was neat seeing an older guy stick with it and come up big in the clutch that year. Inspiring. I'm always fascinated by the guys who stick around MLB who aren't necessarily stars but cobble together long careers. Kendrick is much more of a regular dude, and as a regular dude myself it's more relatable seeing him do this as compared to someone like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, or Fernando Tatis Jr.

I remember him saying on MASN that Kevin Long unlocked his swing a bit following the trade to the Nats by telling him his feet were too close together. His barrel rate and exit velo was crazy during that championship year.

As an Angels fan I always thought Howie seemed like a cool guy in his interviews. He was never the big name star of an MLB team. But he could go through stretches where he was dominant. It was so great to see him shine in 2019 against the Astros as a veteran player.
I remember Bregman not being able to comprehend how he hit that ball for a home run down the right field line. After knowing how much the Astros likely cheated in 2019, it’s even better.

I never knew really much about Kendrick other than he was one of the couple of hundred "hall of very good" players. Baseball really has some great stories. I hope he gets at least one vote when he appears on the ballot.

He was always my favorite angel growing up. I loved how he just played the game, kept his mouth shut and delivered. Now it's Mike trout obviously, but growing up, Kendrick all the way. He signed my angels uniform when he was a dodger too ;)

As a D.C. native who grew up in Manhattan a Mets fan, thank you Howie for helping to defeat the Dodgers and letting me witness something my dear grandmother, a huge Senators fan, never got a chance to see: a World Series winner in our nation's capital.

Incredibly good guy with an incredibly good career. Howie was a favorite of every Angels fan (including childhood me), and nothing made me happier than seeing his heroics during that Nats run. I was sad to see him traded away but knowing what he went on to do is a hell of a good ending.

Think about how loaded that 2018 Nationals team was. Harper, Soto, Turner, Rendon, Zimmerman, Scherzer, Strasburg, Kendrick…how that team didn’t even make the playoffs is a question that will be asked for eternity
