    I’ve been on the outside looking in when it comes to cybersecurity mainly cos of the lack of direction. I’ve heard different suggestions of where to start but wanted to know if having the A+, Network+ & Security+ certification are a must have to get into cybersecurity

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому +10

      Security + would help with HR gating and minimum requirements for some roles. The other two if you just studied the material you'd be well served, but having the certs themselves won't have a major impact to gettingthe job.

      You should also check out Network Engineer Academy on UA-cam, with Jorge. He discusses this exact question, daily. And why settle for entry-level? That's very self-limiting, yet that's all you see on youtube. I can't find one mid-level entry vid.

      @@SimplyCyber thanks. I do have a question for you, I'm interested in getting into automotive cyber security and I'm not sure exactly what path to take, I have 4 years IT (but that was 10 years ago), Net+, Sec+, CySA+ (aquired 2020), and a 2 year automotive technology certificate. I'm trying to combine my 2 passions and I see big future potential for automotive cyber sec.

    I have CCNA, CISA. Based in Canada. I have basic networking skills and pentesting skill and did few hackthebox. What entry level job should I be able to get and how I can better prepare?

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому +3

      Depends what you want to do long term but what ur doing sets you up for most roles infield. Nothing you mentioned strongly leans except maybe offsec due to pentester skill but it depends if that’s a few labs/tools or if you won a ctf/did freelance pentesting.

      Thanks for kind words. There are fewer jobs as you go up, and there is risk because if you're not billable you're overhead which is not good. I think its fantastic for jr careers and people lookin gto get exp. Many contracts are 1 year or 3 years so there is a lil stabiilty. I was at booz for 6 years. I left Booz because of the anxiety of instability in the end. I had to support a family at the end of my time there..

    I can not like this video enough, July I will be graduating with my cyber security degree, and been applying places with no luck. Hopefully now I can start using better bait. When I started school, I started a discord that is now over 600 students and professors, not sure how to put that in a resume either that I didn't see in the resume part.

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому +1

      You might be able to find an internship, but I'm not familiar with any part time cybersecurity jobs. Might be worth getting a part time IT field engineer. /help desk support role that is part time. Could use some of the exp toward a cybersecurity role after graduation.

    How do you get around the clearances? I find that a lot of companies don't want to sponsor an entry level worker for the clearance.

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому +1

      Couple options, try to get in with the company in a role that doesnt need a clearance, and then move laterally after youve demonstrated value. Also, you could look outside the geographical area and do a year somewhere to get the clearance and then move internally ideally (or switch companies) with the clearance.

    I'm about to get CIS cert and i was wondering if you think i could get into cyber security with just a cert or associates?

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому +2

      you can. its a bit more competitive without a BS for example, but cybersecurity favors practical skills exp so if you are doing lab work, getting hands on keyboard etc, and keep deliver value early then you can make your case as a desirable candidate without BS (for example)

    "Security clearance" isn't something you can get for yourself.

    • @SimplyCyber
      @SimplyCyber  2 роки тому

      Yes. You need to be sponsored by company or the govt, it costs a lot of money (paid by the company or govt), and can take weeks to months depending on the level of clearance and your particular background.
