Out of all the opponents that Rocky fought. I never seen Apollo as an antagonists. He was very human. He felt that he didn't triumph when he won with split decision. But he did respect Rocky in the end which was the reason why he taught Rocky in III to give Rocky that edge back. Also it was Apollo that gave Rocky that chance for the title.😊
Agree, these are my favourite movies, and I never thought Apollo was "the villain" or "the bad guy." Apollo made Rocky and carried him on his shoulders through the whole first three. They're both super sympathetic as far as I'm concerned.
@@Machinu5 there is a scene in Rocky IV which Rocky does a speech at Apollo's funeral which Rocky thank Apollo for giving him a chance for the title in the first place. I never got why Stallone cut that scene in the theatrical cut as it was an important scene. It is on the director's cut Again even in Rocky and Rocky II I never seen Apollo as "the Villian" like the other Rocky opponents. I feel if Apollo found out that Adrian was in a coma, Apollo would of shown humanity as he has got children. Also Apollo had his trainer Tony who treats Apollo like a son would of told Apollo he was crossing the line. Unlike Clubber Lang when Mickey had his heart attack. Lang still had ego and arrogance. Even in the scene at the hospital when Rocky ask Apollo asked if he did his best. Apollo was ashamed but Rocky respected him. It was a brief discussion between two boxers. I couldn't imagine Rocky asking that question to Clubber or Drago. Even when Apollo loses the fight in Rocky II we do feel for him and he gives the champion belt to Rocky.
@@ninfilms again, Apollo even admits to being the bad guy. His trainer told him that if he insults and defames Rocky it will make him out to be the bad guy. Apollo did whatever he needed to get Rocky back in the ring.
I have my own opinions about which of the films are the best, but that's due to Mr. T and Dolph Lundgren both being popular when I was a kid. No matter what, when an actor that people like passes we remember all of their roles that inspire or influence us, and as a result we appreciate them all the more for the feelings they invoked in us.
I've seen all Rocky movies in the theaters (yeah, I'm a geezer) and I never in my life saw an audience reaction to a movie like Rocky 2. Cheering, booing, yelling at the screen, standing o at the end. Thanks Carl! Gonna miss you man
Also my favorite scene. I think Talia Shire doesn’t get nearly enough credit for her importance to this franchise. I honestly think that part of it is how properly understated she plays her role, and the other part is that her acting is so strong that one can forget she’s playing a character. She’s so expertly playing a person who is dismissed by everyone (except Rocky of course) that we tend to dismiss her as an audience.
@@stevesheroan4131I especially loved her scene with Stallone in Rocky 3, where they are on the beach and she's trying to get him to admit his feelings after losing to Mr. T's character, Clubber Lang. It was very emotional and beautiful at the same time.
Hands down. My favourite scene is when Apollos trainer Duke tries to persuade him to forget a rematch with Balboa. “I know how you feel….let it go. Let it go!!!”. 😊
Adrian: Do something for me? Rocky: What? Adrian: Win. Rocky: What?! Adrian: Win! Mickey: WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?!?! That scene gives me goosebumps every single time I've watched it.

That's not to call them a big event, but more to say they were as present as the air in my lungs. They just were always there. Although, it was really with the third installment that I really got all in. Between the combined soundtracks of both Three and Four, to this day I can loose myself in the energy and inspiration. Mr. Weathers was an immense part of that journey, and brought endless amounts of class, and cool to every performance. May he rest peacefully, and may his family be comforted in the amazing gifts he shared with us all.
I don’t really know how many others feel but Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) was my favorite character from the Rocky movies. He just reminded me of Muhammad Ali with his taunting and talk that he could back up in the ring and in Rocky 2, It showed Apollo in a different light with him in his home setting and business office and really gave Carl the chance to shine as an actor. For this reason Rocky 2 is one of my all time favorite movies. R.I.P. Carl Weathers.

Rocky 2 redemption, for me that indicates Apollo seeking redemption for what he sees as failure as well as Rocky making up for the loss with Mick also trying to make up for neglecting Rocky earlier in his career RIP Carl Weathers truly one of a kind
