Clear and concise. Advanced Framing techniques need to explained and exposed to our slow-to-change industry.

You do amazing work. I'm going to build my 3rd home for me and my family. I want to build a pole barn home because i truly agree with what you said less wood cheaper cost in materials and more Insulation. So on that note what would be the 3 major things to be aware of? I live on the west side of Michigan.

Great video. What do you think the biggest obstacle is to all builders switching to advanced framing? Simple habit, or are there other consequences of framing 24"oc?

Josh, what am I missing, using Advantech on simple shed floor, 12'X12' joist 16"oc, we noticed after the first sheet, the next sheet did not fall on center and way short on the next. Measuring the sheet we got 47 1/2 " not the expected 48 standard dimension. Had to scab at 8' and 12'end. I"m baffled, any help?

    Who manufactured your floor trusses?

These trusses we supplied by a company called Pioneer Truss in Liberty, MO.

24 o.c is dangerous if it’s on fire doesn’t matter the code if everything was built to cod the world would be a crappy place save a fireman build 16 o.c

Jeremy Olivas just to play devils advocate I believe any home that is on fire is dangerous.

Insulating between the truss or I joists would adequately help slow down the spread of fire

Seems to me this is just taking shortcuts in order to save money. I wouldn't be comfortable with 24 o.c. floors under tile, and while you talk about saving money on lumber, of course you don't mention the price increase of going to 7/8" advantech. I also don't like 24" o.c. with 1/2" sheetrock for walls, as it feels cheap and flimsy. Sure, it's "code approved", but since when is that an argument for quality?

CadillacWaltz. Advantech is pretty good product itself. It lets you do a lot pretty quickly. Yeah it costs more but I can put more down faster. So the expense is softer because the labor is less. It’s a trade off yeah.

Sorry for not catching your comment sooner. You are correct when you point out the cost savings of lumber being offset by the upgrade to 7/8" subfloor. However we aren't just concerned with the install cost. We are mainly concerned with the operational cost of the building over the next 100 years and advanced framing gets more insulation in the walls for the life of the home. The floor assembly is part of the framing package as a whole, everything is stacked and therefore it makes sense to continue the floor framing 24" OC. It took a while for us to come around on 1/2" rock on 24" OC but after feeling it twice I realized that the difference is not perceivable (in my opinion). Advanced framing certainly isn't a hill to die upon for energy efficiency, if you don't like the features of advanced framing put that effort elsewhere. There are things like air sealing, good glazing, and thoughtful design that are much more important to a homes success than advanced framing. Thanks for the input!
